  • Toshiba Canvio 1.5TB Portable Hard Drive Blue Light just keeps blinking

I have a Toshiba Canvio HDTC615XK3B1 1.5TB Portable Hard Drive and its been working fine so far. This morning I tried to access some files and when I plugged it in, the harddrive made the usual virbation but the blue light goes from solid to rapidly blinking. My computer (macbook) doesnt recognize it either. Ive tried it on multiple computers too. Please help!!!

Unfortunately, the drive might might be failing unfortunately, especially considering it's not working on multiple computers. You could try to reformat it, but that would cause you to lose your data. Alternatively, you could make a warranty claim.

  • Need help for installing OS after installing new hard drive

    I have an imac 27 2010.
The hard drive has failed for the 2nd time. I have installed a new hard drive again. When trying to install the OS, it looks to begin but then tells me it can not be completed.
I had gone the the erase, then partition steps previously.
    Any advice?
I do have a time machine copy to restore from if I can get that far as well as the discs handy to use.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which OS version install disk do you have? It's not Mavericks since that does not come with a disk.
And you are trying to install Mavericks? If so, are you using the Internet Recovery Option (press Command + Option + R while restarting/rebooting)? I recently read of a case where the user was unable to reinstall the old OS (in that case Snow leopard) and he could not install Mavericks either. He took it to an Apple store and they bypassed the ID/password requirements and reinstalled it for him.

I had a 640GB HDD in my Early 2008 Macbook and it was just too much it would always freeze up the computer a bit for only a few seconds but ya. Then I realized that it was the size of the HDD that was causing it since the Early 2008 Macbook models can only handle a MAX od 500GB while the Early 2008 Macbook Pros could have a MAX of 640GB (Lucked out there!) lol But ya the Early 2008 Mocbooks can only handle a MAX HDD size of 500GB and that's it!! lol

  • Need help in installing a SATA hard drive with 865pe NEO2

    Hello there
I need a help in installing a Sata hard drive ,it is WD 250 GB , my motherboard is 865PE Noe2 , the bios is the latest one
already I got another old hard drive ,not a Sata ,a regular IDE one installed as a master hard drive
I want to install the sata hd as a slave for the IDE hd for now to transfer the files and documents
I already physically installed the Sata hard drive yet the problem is that it was listed in the bios , I followed some of the steps here in the forum mentioned but all what I got is I found it listed as the fourth IDE master , not as the primary IDE slave
in Windows Xp Sp2 it is not listed of course in the windows explorer , but it is there in the device manager
look I am very confused and I tried most of the combinations in the ide configuration in BIOS
what should I do coz I am feeling so bad and stupid  ,you can consider me a n00b in this hard drive thing

1st the sata drive cannot be listed as a slave drive to the ide master [key word=ide-can be configured as master OR slave, master IF only 1 hd, master and slave IF 2 hds], on the sata controler you can have master and slave, the ide cable has two connectors for the hds, sata has only 1 hd connector.
are you wanting to install the sata as primary master and move the operating sys to that drive, if so you will need an IMAGING software to move an operating system OR you could do a fresh operating system install to the sata drive then install your programs.

  • I am replacing my existing SATA hard drive to a Solid State hard drive and want to image the drive, is this possible?

I am replacing my existing 320 GB SATA hard drive that clicks and makes weird noises to a Solid State hard drive and want to image the drive, is this possible?  I then want to replace the DVD with a secondary large drive for storage.
So I am looking for any "gotchas" that I may be unaware of.
    Thanks!

Put the Old drive in an external notebook drive enclosure. Install the SSD in your computer. Boot from your Old drive's Recovery HD:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Clone Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
         1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu then press the Continue
             button.
         2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         3. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         4. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         5. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         6. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the New SSD. Source means the external Old hard drive.
Set the new Startup Disk to the SSD and restart the computer.
This process clones both your old OS X volume and the Recovery HD volume to the SSD. You can use a similar process to clone the SSD to the new hard drive you will install.

  • What SATA hard drive(s) would one recommend for a G4 Sawtooth?

I plan to replace the main IDE/ATA/PATA hard drive on a 400 MHz G4 Sawtooth.
What SATA hard drive(s) would one recommend for this system? The recommendation can be regarding brands in general or a particular model.
    Thank you.

This feature ONLY comes into play on a Drive that has developed Bad Blocks that have not yet been corrected by re-writing the data.
What happens when you attempt to Read data from a Bad Block on a drive without that feature, the drive will Retry, and retry, and retry, in an attempt to get data that is good enough that the drive's error-correction logic can correct it. This can take so long that the RAID driver declares the drive as inaccessible, and splits the RAID into a functioning and a non-functioning unit, and declares the RAID compromised* ( that's not the word they use, but the correct term escapes me at the moment.)
Drives with Bad Blocks are more likely to develop more Bad Blocks and fail later.

  • Native SATA hard drive support for hp pavilion notebooks DV2000 , DV9000

    Hello,
decided to post a question on this hp forum instead of the hundreds of other tech forums out there in the hopes of recieving a valid knowledgeble response.  (Also since the question relates to Hp products lets give it  a try on here>>)
So here is the question I'm trying to get answer for.  Can a SATA hard drive from DV 2000 series notebook be used in a DV 9000 notebook series?  I have done some forum reading and apparently there is compatibility issues depending on chipset (Intel or Amd or ATI?)
My Dv2000 series had a fujitsu 250gb hard drive which ran Vista 64bit on an AMD/nvdia motherboard,
I want to use this in my DV 9233cl notebook which has an Intel/nvidia chipset motherboard.
When I insert the fujitsu 250gb into the dv9233cl the notebook powers on, does a read of hard drive for 10 mins or so (hdd LED lights up, goes dim while reading) then says : No OS found.
    I tried to do a fresh install using Vista CD; its doesn't recognize the drive.  I click option to load drivers for hard drive (yes I also got intel drivers for Intel SATA controllers from hp web site) the drivers load but still do not pick up the hard drive;
I want to know two things really..if at post the motherboard reads the drive or trys to does this means the hard drive itself is good/healthy?  If so , why does it not recognize by Vista Install disk or by the intel SATA drivers?
If anyone can accurately say what the problem is would be great.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
Thank you for responding and opening up the discussion with more information.
I refered to it as new in my post in reference to obtaining it recently after my older dv2913cl.
The dv9233cl is in fact old, however I installed a brand new intel/nvidia motherboard into it.
The system boots, bios has native sata support set to 'enabled'.  During post it recognises hdd device as it starts to click and spin and read.  After it will say ' no OS found'.   This to me seems normal as the hdd is not 'configured' to boot on the dv9233cl?
Also the systm boots and runs fine into mini Xp for diagnostics. So overall I know the dv9233cl is functioning.
However mini Xp does not recognise there is a hdd device.
Wanting to reformat or do a fresh install of Vista I boot from the Vista Install disk.   It does not pick up or recognise a hdd is present.  I install Intel SATA controller drivers which I obtained from Hp website (as suggested by expert forum members to those who have similar SATA  hdd not being recognised with intel motherboard)
Link for intel SATA drivers for XP and Vista
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=ob-542...
I used the SATA controllers which came up on the screen and even try going through each one ; however the SATA hdd device is not picked up.  So this is the main question and issue. Neither any DOS hdd utility , mini XP or Vista install disk recognise there is a hdd present.
Why is it not recognised and how to resolve.?

  • Does anyone know if the Toshiba 240GB 1.8" MK2431GAH Hard Drive will work in the 4th gen iPod Photo?

I've been considering buying a Toshiba 240GB 1.8" MK2431GAH Hard Drive for my 4th gen iPod Photo.  Does anyone have any information about this product and if it will work?  Would I have to also get a thicker back panel?

And the reason is because the connector on the later versions of the Toshiba 1.8-inch hard drives is different.
The older type that works with your iPod goes up to 60GB.  There are two physical sizes, base on whether the drive has one platter or two platters, and these correspond to the "thick" and "thin" iPod back panels.
I have a 4th gen iPod with a standard compact flash card for storage, which replaces the hard drive through an adapter.  I believe it's this one, or one like it
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Compact-Flash-CF-SSD-To-Toshiba-IPod-1-8-inch-Adapte r-Black-/121174875639
It fits in the "thin" back panel.  The only modification I needed to make was bending over the pair of "jumper" pins that sets it for master or slave (needs to be set for master).  Currently, I only have an 8GB CF card in there, but it works great.  At some point, I may get a 64GB CF card for it.  Solid state storage is much better than a hard drive for everything except sheer capacity.

  • Toshiba StorE Art 2Tb External Hard Drive not recognized by HP Elite /Win7

I have a new HP Elite Desktop running Windows 7 Home Edition:
I bought some few months ago a Toshiba Store Art 2Tb Ext Hard drive, which until today worked well. Today I started the PC in the morning (with no update of Windows or other software) to find it would no longer recognize the Toshiba Hard drive. It still recognizes the WD drives, and the SimpleTech drives when they are plugged in. All External Drives are powered separately and do not rely on USB power.
I tried the Store Art on other PC's and it works fine. I tried switching the cables, and the cable works on other drives, (and other cables will not make this Store Art work). I tried several USB 2 ports on the PC, with no luck *(but all ports work with the other drives).
I tries COMPUTER, MANAGE, and checked Drvivers and Disks. There was no sign of the Disk available (no malfunctioning disk), it was just not there at all.
I searched the web - tried a range of techniques (unplugging PC from power) and more. No luck.
    The PC Specifications are:
    Operating System
    MS Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit SP1
    CPU
    Intel Core i3 530 @ 2.93GHz 30 C
    Clarkdale 32nm Technology
    RAM
    3.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)
    Motherboard
    MSI 2A9Ch (CPU 1) 38 C
    Graphics
    HP L1906 (1280x1024@60Hz)
    ATI Radeon HD 5450
    Hard Drives
    488GB Seagate ST3500418AS (SATA) 31 C
    Optical Drives
WD Virtual CD 1110 USB Device
    hp DVD-RAM GH60L
    Audio
    Realtek High Definition Audio
Works well with all other drives. and it worked with Toshiba till this morning.
    Any clues?
    thanks

Well - this is incredible. After leaving the Ext Store Art Drive turned off all day ( but the PC was left on) | cam home ready to try the advice of Keaney (thanks for your advice) which was the same as the techies at work: Try to roll back to OS to last good restore point - eg a week ago. Just before I did anything like that - I just flipped it on to see if a miracle occurred. Guess what. It fired up, was recognised, and all is working.
This is amazing - since my original posting: the PC has not been restarted, not been turned off, not been updated with new OS updates, has not had anything except normal web usage. Similarly the Store Art Ext HDD has been left off for the day, and just turned on tonight - not change plugs or cables or USB or anything. No cables have been touched or plugs jiggled. It just works.
Its like there is a gremlin there - teasing me, testing me, causing me havoc - and laughing all the way. I have no idea how this happened - but will monitor to see if it happens again.
thanks for the suggestions to resolve - for now I will do nothing.

  • One Computer No Longer Recgonizes My Toshiba Canvio Portable 500 GB Hard Drive

Hello. I have a Toshiba Canvio Portable 500 GB Hard Drive. I used it to back up my files on my main computer and connected it to that computer every now and again to download more files. Suddenly, it stopped being recognized by my main computer a while back. Or more accurately, my main computer recognizes it but says that it needs to be formated before it can be used. I have not idea what happened to it. Oddly, the hard drive is recognized by all of my other computers (a MAC, a Chromebook and a standard PC Laptop) and I can access the files on there using those computers.  I have never used any of the other computers to download files. Is there a way to figure out how to get my main computer to recognize the hard drive again without reformatting it? I'd like to add more files from that computer to it. Thanks for the help. (I recently reinstalled windows and the drives for the hard drive on my main computer and still no luck.)

If you can get the 2008 started move large libraries such as  your iPhoto, iMovie and iTunes libraries to an External HD. Once you have verified the libraries have been successfully moved then Trash the ones on the internal HD and empty the Trash. Once these operations have been done then use:
iPhoto: How to move the Library to an EHD
iMovie: How to move the Library to an EHD

  • How do i install sata hard drive?

ok, i am using right now my sony dvdrw on ide1 as master and ata hard drive on ide2 as master, booting to the hard drive. i am going to install an sata hard drive and use that as the boot drive, the normal ata as a storage drive only. how will i install the sata drive? do i install it to sata 1 and then durring the install of windows xp tell it to hit f6 for third party scsi drivers and then use the intel sata floppy driver disk that came with my board? it's the MSI-6728 board. or is there anything special i need to do in the bios or what?
oh yeah. what connection for power should i use? my powersupply has sata and normal, so should i use the sata power connector? and then what's this about legacy or something in the bios, or am i wrong?

Well first of all, you dont install the Intel S-ATA Driver Disc unless you are going to create a RAID Array....Go into the BIOS and on the "On-Chip IDE Configuration" Page Set the Options like this.........
On-Chip ATA Operate Mode : Legacy
    ATA Configuration : P-ATA+S-ATA
Keep S-ATA Enabled : (Greyed Out Yes)
Keep P-ATA Enabled : (Greyed Out Yes)
    P-ATA Channel Selection : Both
Combined Mode Operation (At first you have to set this to P-ATA Channel 1, then switch after you Move Windows to S-ATA)
Configure S-ATA As RAID : No
Then you are Going to have to Install the OS on The SATA and Just Move the Files that you want to save from the P-ATA HDD and then Remove the P-ATA Drive from the "Boot Device" List in the BIOS....
You really should List Your Full System Specs. When you POST...Create a "Signature" with your Forum User Control Panel...........Sean REILLY875
