Need to turn Appleworks into Word

Hi, I know, I know. I should have used Word in the first place if I was doing it for publishing. But, like so many others, I didn't know until after the fact. Can anyone turn me on to a tutorial of some kind re this? Maybe Apple has one? Video or print would be great. Thanks so much for any input. Kate

This means that you are missing the translators which would have enabled you to make these conversions. I rather doubt you will be able to get hold of them now. There are various programs which can open AW word processing documents, after which you can usually save them in a Woed-compatible format.
Word Processing documents can be opened directly in Pages 4 (AppleWorks 6 only) but this is no longer available from Apple - the new Pages 5 (Mavericks required) does not open AppleWorks documents. (The older version is contained in the iWork '09 box set which may still be available from Amazon and other independent retailers.) Panergy Software's docXConverter v3.2 ($19.95) can convert Appleworks 5 and 6 Word Processing documents to RTF (though it has been reported that it can only handle documents which contain only text, not those which include images or frames). The latest version of the free LibreOffice has announced that it can open AppleWorks 6 Word Processing documents and an ability to open ClarisWorks documents has been reported: it does appear to be able to handle at least some embedded images.

  • What can I do to speed up uploading a pdf file that needs to be exported into Word?

I have been trying to upload a 1 page pdf file for exportation into Word for the last couple of days. Every time I try to upload it into Adobe ExportPDF, the file just shows that it is still uploading and it does this for several hours (isn't finished after 12 hours).
I uploaded a much larger pdf document earlier this week (over 64 pages) for editing and it uploaded that book fairly quickly and converted it into Word without any problems.
Any suggestions on what the problem might be or what I could do to speed things up? I only need to be able to edit a couple of words near the top of the page.

How large is the file? The size in pages is not important, what matters is the size in megabytes and your broadband speed.

  • I'm traveling to Hawaii and wondering if my iPad will work? I have wifi on it but do I need to turn it into a wifi hotspot?

I need help to figure this out b4 I leave on Monday.

Turning your iPad into a WiFi Hotspot, is only necessary if you are needing to share WiFi with other devices, if your iPad is already connected to WiFi or Cellular etc..
Ask the Hotel where you are staying for their WiFi information for Guests and connect to their WiFi Network in the list that shows up in iPads WiFi Settings.

I have an email that has my Certificate of Completion as part of the email. I can't save it to my desktop since the whole site of my email messages appear again!
I need to upload my Certificate of Completion of a course I completed onto a professional website so I can
    get credit for attending it.
I think it has to be a PDF file.

I misunderstood. You want to print the entire email in a way that looks decent.
Most email sites have a "printable view" link or button. This may be in an obscure location. For example, on Outlook.com, it is on the ... menu (last item on the menu bar when viewing a message).
If you want to PDF the email, you can print it to a PDF printer driver. Examples include:
    * PrimoPDF - http://www.primopdf.com/
    * PDF Creator - http://www.pdfforge.org/

  • I need to turn an indesign document into an editable pdf. how do I do that?

I need to turn an indesign document into an editable pdf, how do I do that?

InCopy is a solution, but it's not the only viable solution.
I update many books, from 200 pages to 3,200 pages every year, long document, very techincal tax books.
Some are done through InCopy, some are edited word files and rtfs exported from InDesign, some are marked up hard copies etc.
It totally depends on the clients technical ability with computers. Last year I taught over 30 authors of ours how to use InCopy. Some were receptive, some were dubious, some were totally clueless.
And on the dubious and totally clueless I spent more time troubleshooting their problems than I would normally with a Word/RTF option.
Some people are capable of switching to InCopy or even know how to use it in the first place. For anyone never used InDesign or InCopy before then it's a massive learning curve to jump from MS Word et al word processors, to InCopy.
I do agree, it is the best solution that's out there, technically. But that solution is not usable by a lot of people.
Yeh if the client is comfortable with InCopy then it's the way forward.
But in most cases, in my experience, it's faster and more efficient to Export the text as RTF and let the author update the RTF. That leaves you in control of reinserting the text and formatting it correctly. Rather than letting the client add bold, underline, italics, superscript, subscripts, crazy workarounds because they didn't know how to do it properly. And in the end you end up with 2 or 3 times the amount of work than is necessary, just cleaning up what the client has done in InCopy that does not suit the overall formatting of the publications.

  • Turning PDF Documents into Word Documents

Can I use my Adobe Creative Suite 6 to turn PDF documents into Word Documents?

Acrobat comes with most versions of Creative Suite and it is capable of converting PDFs to Word documents. The quality of the results depend on a number of things. If the PDF was originally generated from a Word source and it's well tagged, you will get much better results. More complicated layouts will generally have worse results and there will be considerable cleanup in Word needed. Exporting to text is sometimes better.

  • I need to turn off 'find my iPhone' so that I am able to restore my phone but my screen is not working. I logged into my iCloud but was not able to turn it from here. How do I do this?!

My iPhone 4 screen stopped working. The phone is still on but the screen is not working at all, it is juts black. I was told restoring my phone might solve this problem so i plugged it into iTunes. When I click on the restore iPhone button a message popped up saying I needed to turn off 'find my iPhone' in phone settings for the restore to be go ahead. Problem is I cant access my phone!
I went onto my cloud account to see if i could do it from here but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Any ideas?

From your iCloud account, you can go to Find My Phone and remove the iPhone from your devices list which will release it, or you could do a remote erase of the iPhone from iCloud.

Not sure what you mean by "tried to use Word". ExportPDF doesn't change what Word can do. Can you explain what you try and what happens in more detail?

    Hi Sara!
Yes this sounds interesting. Can I update to that from the PDF Export I have just renewed? How much would that cost?
    Thanks for your quick answer.

Greetings from a Photoshop Newbie. I need a computer, preferably a Mac laptop, with some serious processing power. I take photos with a Pentax 645Z; files are 50MB raw. I upload from Adobe Bridge and manipulate the photo, sometimes turning them into files in excess of 250MB. I cannot resize as the large files are needed for enlargements. Have all sorts of problems trying to manipulate, add effects and saving most large files. I need some serious processing power. Can anyone suggest what Mac i should purchase? I thank you in advance for your help :-)

It sounds as if you're having some system-related problems now, unrelated to processing power as such. In particular, a buggy video driver can cause everything to slow to a crawl.
Medium format files are big, true, but not so big as to cause significant slowdowns on a normally functioning and reasonably current computer. A laptop will always be slower than a well-equipped desktop system, though. Mac vs PC plays no part in this, performance is unrelated to platform.
Bottlenecks are different in ACR and Photoshop, so that should give you a clue. ACR is computing-intensive and mostly limited by CPU speed. Photoshop, however, is mostly bandwidth-intensive and mainly limited by memory and disk throughput. It's also sensitive to GPU issues.

  • What peripherals do you need to turn your iPhone into a conference room speakerphone?

What peripherals do you need to turn your iPhone into a conference room speakerphone system?
If you buy a separate conference mic and a speaker, can they somehow work together off the iPhone headphone jack like a huge set of group earphones?  What if you want to connect 2 mics and a speaker?
Do you have to be very careful that they can all be attached somehow at the same time?
Are there reasonably priced conference room speakerphone peripherals the work well together that you would recommend?
    Steve

Why don't you contact Apple and find out?  Certainly if you can find your way around the internet to have been able to find this forum, you can certainly find the number for AppleCare.

iOS device backups are stored in your iTunes library.
Move your iTunes library to an external drive.

  • Translatinf Appleworks docs into Word

I have been having trouble sending AW6 docs to my friend's PC. I have been using Mac's "save as" and then chosing Word 97,00, XP. Then I've been sending the fole as an e-mail attachment. My friend says he gets only gibberish. What am I missing? Shouldn't he be able to read anything that I've saved as a word doc? He's running WinXP on his PC.
    Fred Jacobowitz

How about saving the AW6 docs into PDF format before sending ? I guess that AppleWorks does not correctly save documents into Word format (depending upon document complexity), while PDF should be more versatile.
As far as I know, PDF documents can be edited in Word (at least, in latest version).
