Netctl-auto fails every second boot

So, since about two oder three days ago, my netctl-auto fails every second boot and I can't even enable a profile manually.
I already found this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1275755
But I checked and don't have any failed units and dhcpcd is not running.
I will do some further investigation and post it here. Any ideas for solutions are welcome
Wolle

I've been having the same problem as well, it boots up just fine then after a reboot netctl-auto fails which had been going on for me for the past 30 minutes without "fixing" itself.
After I added the line:
TimeoutDHCP=30
to my profile then rebooted, it worked. It could be a fluke "fix" but worth a try. I *think* the reason it worked is that the default timeout is 10 seconds which might not be enough to establish a connection for some routers/network cards.
EDIT: I did another boot to see if it was a fluke, and it was. I'm getting a little tired of netctl-auto... I'm going to just disable it and manually do a "netctl start <profile>" after I boot up.

  • Netctl wireless fails every other boot [SOLVED]

    This has me stumped.

    Here is a pastebin link to the "journalctl -b for a successful boot.

    Other than there is no attempt to authenticate in the failed boot, I see no significant difference.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Mounting lvm (on raid) fails every few boots

    Hi,
    as the title says, every few boots (probably every 5th boot or so) I get dropped to an emergency console because mounting one of my logical volumes (not always the same one) fails.
    I have attached the logs form a successful and unsuccessful boot. The relevant lines I could find are:
    Job dev-mapper-raidvg\x2dlvimages.device/start timed out.
    Nov 01 07:58:01 mythbackend systemd[1]: Timed out waiting for device dev-mapper-raidvg\x2dlvimages.device.
    Nov 01 07:58:01 mythbackend systemd[1]: Dependency failed for /home/laffi/media/images.
    Nov 01 07:58:01 mythbackend systemd[1]: Dependency failed for Local File Systems.
    Nov 01 07:58:01 mythbackend systemd[1]: Triggering OnFailure= dependencies of local-fs.target.
    Nov 01 07:58:01 mythbackend systemd[1]: Dependency failed for File System Check on /dev/mapper/raidvg-lvimages.
    Another thing I noticed is that a filesystem check gets started for that particular lv (lvimages) during the successful boot, but not the unsuccessful one. No idea if that means anything.
    As you can see from the full log other lv's get mounted successful during the same boot.
    The raid also seems to get started fine. I noticed this line in the logs, but it's in both the successful and unsuccessful boots so it probably is not the issue.
    Nov 01 07:56:31 mythbackend systemd[1]: Cannot add dependency job for unit lvm.service, ignoring: Unit lvm.service failed to load: No such file or directory.

    WonderWoofy wrote:If you vgchange -ay when it drops you into the initramfs shell, can you then exit out and continue the boot?
    Ok, finally managed to try this.
    vgchange -ay results in a "volume group with 11 logical volumes now active" or something along those line.
    I then pressed CTRL+D to exit the emergency console. After that, nothing happened. Waited a few minutes, just in case, then rebooted (via ctrl+alt+del).
    Something maybe worth noting: in the meantime I had enabled the lvm-monitoring service to see if that makes a difference (seems like it doesn't, since I still have the same problem). I found the following line(s) in this unsuccessful boot (with lvm-monitoring service enabled):

    Nov 07 09:00:29 mythbackend systemd[1]: Started Monitoring of LVM2 mirrors, snapshots etc. using dmeventd or progress polling.
    And then further down the following familiar lines:

  • Network fails every other boot [SOLVED]

    I seem to have a small prob when I startup my pc the network fails every other time. I had some probs w/ dhcp starting when I used gentoo, and found a workaround, putting "dhcpcd -k" in etc/conf.d/local.stop ran the dhcpcd -k command when I shutdown my pc, apparently arch's syntax is a bit different so I doubt etc/conf.d/local.stop exists, I tried /etc/rc.local.shutdown, but that didn't seem to do it either. Could someone please tell me the arch way to enter this command every shutdown?

    Will "dhcpcd -k" fix it?
    Check this: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ude … _Each_Boot
    Thanks.
    Altough I find it quite weird they switch like that.
    "Because udev loads all modules at once, devices are sometimes initialized in a different order. For example, with two network cards, you may notice they switch designations between eth0 and eth1"
    Yeah, I don't buy it. They switched every boot.
    I'm trying the udev-sanctified method. Will find out in a day or so (when I (re)boot).

  • Netctl-auto wireless hangs on boot if there is no wireless device

    Hello!
    I've configured netctl to autostart wireless profiles according to wiki and it works pretty well except for one issue. If there is no wireless device on boot time, systemd sticks on [email protected] for about a minute until it finally fails, and only after that system continues to boot.
    Is there any way to make systemd skip this unit if there aren't any wireless interfaces at boot time? Or, better, to make netctl aware of the hardware situation and just prevent it from waiting so long for something that isn't going to happen.

I have no idea what this process is or why it's crashing. I don't see any OPMN\logs in the home directory. Any idea what I"m doing wrong? I'm installing it with a response file and it seems like it's working fine otherwise, but I cannot figure out why it installed this opmn.exe and how to install it without it?
    Any help hugely appreciated!!

    This is caused due to the service 'Oracle-agent12r1ProcessManager' that gets created as a part of 12C agent.
    Issue is being investigated in following BUG:
    BUG 14610919 - WINDOWS AGENT INSTALLER 12C BP1 INSTALLING OPMN.EXE SERVICE
    Stopping the service Oracle-agent12r1ProcessManager will stop the errors and will not have any impact on the functionality of the agent.
    Regards,
    Venkat

  • TS3274 My ipad screen is flashing about once every second when plugged in, it wont boot, no logo

    I have an ipad first generation. it wont turn on when press the power button. When i plug it into the wall, the screen blinks about once every second. It does not display any logo.
    it doesnt seem like i can reset it or put it into recovery mode.
    Any suggestions? do you think it has a hardware problem?

    Hello oilyragfun, I am having the exact same problem. Did you ever get this resolved?
    No history of drops or abuse. When I plug it in the screen just dimly flashes or pulses about once every second. No logo, just the entire screen dimly backlit for a half of a second the blank again. I can't get it to respond with any combination of buttons or reset proceadures.

  • [scanner] sane: every second scan fails

    Hi everybody,
    I got a Canon MP510. I'm already in the group 'scanner' and using sane to scan images:
    scanimage --format=tiff >image.tiff
    scanimage -L shows:
    device `pixma:05B43737_53450F' is a CANON Canon PIXMA MP510 multi-function peripheral
    Every second time I get an error:
    scanimage: sane_read: Error during device I/O
    So i have to scan everything twice.
    dmesg says:
    usb 1-3: usbfs: interface 1 claimed by usblp while 'scanimage' sets config #1
    'rmmod usblp' has no effect. /etc/sane.d/canon.conf seems to be ok.
    so what is the problem?

    Once I had a issue like yours, so I decided to go merciless against dll.conf. I deleted every single line which wasn't required by my scanner and problem solved.
    p.s. check sane's man page about SANE_DEBUG env variable. It will help a lot debugging sane issues.
    Luck

  • [SOLVED]netctl-auto no longer working

    Can some kind person point me in the right direction to fix this? Seems to have stopped working after latest upgrade.  Manually netctl start works OK.  Haven't been able to find the solution in man pages or googling.

  • Netctl-auto cannot connect after unblocking wifi

    Hello,
    I'm using netctl as a connection manager. Systemd automatically starts "netctl-auto@wlp1s0" and if I boot system with wifi unblocked (rfkill) it is working fine. But when I boot my system with wifi blocked (from previous session) and after boot I manually unblock it (using rfkill unblock wifi), it doesn't pick up network. And when I try "sudo netctl-auto swtich-to <network_name> it prints out:
    WPA association/authentication failed for interface 'wlp1s0'
    It also happens when I'm working without connection with blocked wifi (for saving the battery) and then I turn wifi on - it also doesn't pick up a network.
    I have to first do:
    systemctl restart netctl-auto@wlp1s0
    which blocks wifi (when I try rfkill list, I can see that this restart blocked it) and only if I immediately switch wifi on (also using rfkill), it connect as usual.
    Does anyone experience same issue? Is it normal behaviour? Thanks

    I think you are seeing a manifestation of this bug.
    Note that I wrote that report.

  • Netctl-auto@wlp3s0.service broken after wpa_supplicant upgrade

    A few hours ago, I upgraded from wpa_supplicant-2.3-1 to wpa_supplicant-2.4-1. Subsequently [email protected] stopped working. After I started it, it would be reported as "active (running)" but fail to connect to any WIFI network (I wouldn't get assigned a DHCP IP address):

    Notice the "Could not read interface...". I downgraded back to 2.3-1 and the problem went away. Could this be a wpa_supplicant bug (new bug in 2.4-1) or netctl bug (incompatibility with the new wpa_supplicant)?
    There's nothing special about the profile files in /etc/netctl. In addition to the ones for wired network, I have a few files named like "wlp3s0-XXX" and they look like this (password crossed out):
    Connection=wireless
    Description='Edward'
    Interface=wlp3s0
    Security=wpa
    ESSID='Edward'
    Key='????'
    Hidden=yes

    I'm having exactly the same problem.

    This also break wifi-menu by the way, so the only option now is trying a manual wpa_supplicant connect. I should mention that this morning (after troubleshooting all night with no result) I managed to connect to my AP once (while begin connected via ethernet as well). After disconnecting the ethernet cable and trying again it failed again. I have not been able to reproduce this.

  • Why arch always access ext4 every second?

    I've read one related topic https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=113516.
    $ pacman -Q linux
    linux 3.10.10-1
    $ mount -o defaults,noatime,commit=60 /dev/sdb2 /mnt/home
    # it access my disk every second
    $ mount | grep sdb2
    /dev/sdb2 on /mnt/home type ext4 (rw,noatime,commit=60,data=ordered)
    Any tip to debug it?

    > f it has just been created, the link you posted may contain the answer i.e. it might still be creating the inodes.
    Thanks, I just notice it
    man mkfs.ext4
    # default enabled lazy_itable_init and lazy_journal_init.
    # and related mount option: uninit_bg
    But how to know all the inode have already created?
    Here I list my another PC's ext4 partition information.

  • MBP Boots Forever/Crashes on First (but not Second) Boot

    Hi,
    I am experiencing a somewhat odd phenomenon with my MBP:
    If I close the lid without sleeping the MBP, the battery might keep on draining and when I open the MBP again later, all battery charge is gone.
    If I now reconnect (power) and boot up the MBP, the MBP will not go past the stage where there is a grey background and the "beachball"... I had it in this stage for up to 2 hours, it is just not booting any further. If I do a hard reset (holding power button for 8 sec), the MBP boots normally... So, the MBP crahes on the first boot, but boots (always) successfully on the second boot.
    The problem with the current state of things is, that I am regularily loosing work, as the latest files that were open are gone if not saved (which I tend to forget, as closing the lid does not always, and should never, lead to a system crash). I have Word set to auto-save every two minutes, but that does not always work and some other tools do not have that option.
    My questions are:
    1.) How can I make sure that closing the lid actually sleeps the MBP? (I was researching the problem and found that some people claim that this might be a problem of the Mac not being able to quickly enough dump my 8GB of RAM, and that disabling "safe sleep" via Terminal might solve the problem... it did not help).
    2.) How can I prevent the make from freezing on the first boot? (I have also research that, but could not really find somehting specific. I have tried checking disk with disk utility (all OK) and reparing permissions to no avail).
    I also had the MBP checked for hardware issues in the Store, and had Mavericks clean installed not long ago (had the same problem with Snow Leopard)...
    Could it be my 4GB RAM extension? Or some specific app causing the problem? Any standard procedures to follow to narrow the issue down?
    Cheers for any solution or workaround ideas!

  • Create data merged document with data on every second page?

    Is it possible to create a data merged document with the variable data only on every second page?
    I have set up the pages with the variable data as a master page (on every odd page) with the text box and paragraph style all set up, and I have set 'override master page items' so the data can be placed, but InDesign seems to freeze up when I try to create the merged document?

    There should be no problem doing the merge with a two-page master and a two-page template document with fields only on one page (and off the top of my head there's no reason to move them off the master page if that's where you put them). I think the problem here is that rachrachm already has a file of 500 pages (based on another thread asking how to apply masters to every other page).
    It's potentially possible to simply place the data file (without the header row) as a text file and auto-flow through the master page frames (can't say for sure without seeing the files), or if the pages without the merge fields are the same just, remove all but the first two pages from the template and do the merge.
    As I metioned earlier, though, this is a very inefficient method of producing that sort of document. A true variable data print flow would be better (you'd need to find a commercial printer who can do it with your data file), or the home version would be to make one single page file for the static content, print 250 copies (plus a few extras, just in case), then make a single page merge template, do the merge, and print that on the back of the already printed pages, or as a separate page. It is immeasurably faster to print multiple copies of a document than it is to print a document that has multiple identical pages.
