Netstat question...
can anyone explain what this means exactly
[root@frodo ~]# netstat
Active Internet connections (w/o servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address State
tcp 0 216 192.168.1.105:ssh 192.168.1.103:3459 ESTABLISHED

tcp 0 0 ::ffff:192.168.1.10:www ::ffff:192.168.1.1:2961 TIME_WAIT
Active UNIX domain sockets (w/o servers)
Proto RefCnt Flags Type State I-Node Path
unix 2 [ ] DGRAM 1950 @udevd
unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5794 /dev/log
unix 3 [ ] STREAM CONNECTED 5793
mainly that pair of tcp connections.. they have me quite confused..

First off, I prefer netstat -n
*shrug*
Anyway.
Netstat prints network connections, routing tables, interface statis-tics, masquerade connections, and multicast memberships...
protocol == tcp
local address == 192.168.1.10:www (this means web port 80)
Foreign Address == 192.168.1.1:2971 (likely a web request, that just looks funny because it is being NAT'ed...I assume 192.168.1.1 is your gateway machine or some router)
State == TIME_WAIT (The socket is waiting after close to handle packets still in the network)
To find more about the states that can be listed, man netstat is your friend.
ps..it looks like you are running a webserver on that box. Is this correct?

hello all,
I hope you can help me.
Please have a look at my code below
I open an URL Connection but I can't close it.
If i type in a DOS Box netstat I see a lot of connection.
Now my question is how can I close the connection.
m_http.disconnect() seems not to work.
public class Unbenannt1 extends Applet
Button button1 = new Button();
private HttpURLConnection m_http = null;
private URL m_MyAlarmURL = null;
private URLConnection m_MyURLConnection = null;
private long m_TimeAlarmXML = 0;
private boolean m_TimeUpdate = true;
/**Das Applet initialisieren*/
public void init()
String a_str = "http://"+ getCodeBase().getHost() + "/x.xml";
try
m_MyAlarmURL = new URL( a_str );
catch ( MalformedURLException ie )
try
jbInit();
catch(Exception e)
e.printStackTrace();
/**Initialisierung der Komponenten*/
private void jbInit() throws Exception
button1.setLabel("button1");
button1.setBounds(new Rectangle(27, 28, 78, 27));
button1.addActionListener(new java.awt.event.ActionListener() {
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
button1_actionPerformed(e);
setLayout(null);
setBackground(java.awt.Color.lightGray);
setSize(426,266);
this.add(button1, null);
void button1_actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
int a_int = 0;
try
m_MyURLConnection = m_MyAlarmURL.openConnection();
m_http = (HttpURLConnection)m_MyURLConnection;
m_http.setRequestMethod( "HEAD" );
m_http.setUseCaches(false);
m_http.connect();
a_int = m_http.getResponseCode();
m_http.disconnect();
m_http = null;
m_MyURLConnection = null;
System.gc();
catch ( java.io.IOException ioe )
a_int = 404;
}Thanks a lot
PredigerUsually those connections linger around for some time, and will then be closed by the OS once a certain timeout has been reached. I don't know how to change that timeout, though.
Btw: the docs don't claim that the connection will be closed. The description for disconnect() is "Indicates that other requests to the server are unlikely in the near future"
If you still see the connection after a while, then something is wrong, but I've seen connections like that hang around for several minutes even after the JVM was terminated.

Help needed for Netstat Logs - unrecognized connections, how do I get rid of them?
HI,
I've tried to gather as much info as possible - running traceroute on some and also looking up ip addy - to help you help me
I've been monitoring this and Level 3 Communications and 24/7 Media have been repeated connections over many many days.
Question: When running traceroute on an ip addy found in netstat, is the last host name the physical location of where the connected computer is? For example, is the one below 208.71.125.44.80 - locatedin Washinton State or Washington DC?
Question: How can I stop or disconnect these connections? For example, in the 208.71.125.44.80 example - are they connected to my port 51599? I checked to see open ports and this number did not come up.

UPGRADE ASSISTANT QUESTIONS for ECC6.0???????911
I have used upgrade assistant in the past for 4.6C and 4.7 upgrades and had no problems. I am having trouble getting the assistant to work through the internet browers. I need help with a couple of questions:
First: Do I need do a prepare and SERVER option like I had in the past with R3UP?
Second: Is there anything special that needs to be done for ports 4239,4240,4241. I can reach my server through the internet of some of the ports that R3 uses.
It seems the java is not recognizing my i5 server and I am not sure where the disconnect is.
This is the error I am receiving when I try to start the upgrade assistant:

- PREPARE
- exchange SAPup with the newest version
- add your application fix <application>_FIX to /usr/sap/put
- $JAVA_HOME/bin/java -cp /usr/sap/put/ua/ua.jar UaServer
- give an administrator password
After that the UA should listen on port 4239
You can verify that on the machine via
netstat -tn | grep -i LISTEN | grep 4239
Also check that you have either no proxy or add the box' name to the exception list of the browser (because Java uses that exception list too).

DNS and Static IP Address Question on Solaris v10 X86
Ive recently installed Solaris v10 X86 and have two questions. The system is a Dell E521 with 4GB RAM and 1GB SysKonnect NIC, and internet is provided via a cable modem, thats plugged into a Netgear router, and the Solaris 10 box is plugged into the Netgear router via a CAT5 ethernet cable.
1. I can connect to my router login page using the following URL:
http://192.168.1.1/start.htm and I can also connect to various web pages such as yahoo, if I first "ping yahoo.com" (on another machine thats internet enabled) and then plug the web sites ip address into the Solaris/Mozilla browser. So it appears that I havent been successful at pointing the Solaris x86 at a DNS server to resolve the DNS name.
2. I've purchased a commercially available software package and it requires a static ip address for this Solaris x86 server. If the ip address changes, itll stop working by design and require that I reacquire the license file. When connecting through this Netgear router, how do I lock this Solaris v10 x86 server into a specific ip address? (the ip address floats presently when cycling my PCs on/off) presently, and assume the Solaris box will too, usually through an ip range of 192.168.1.<1 through 5>

The NIC is a SysKonnect 9821 1GB Ethernet card. The drivers in Solaris 10 were apparently very old and didn't install drivers or configure/plumb when I installed Solaris 10, so I downloaded the
latest drivers (hard to find!), followed the instructions and got the NIC drivers installed and then plumbed.
My router's ip address appears to be 192.168.1.1 and in one of the articles I've read, there is a recommendation to create a file (touch) within /etc named defaultrouter and enter the router's ip address. I did this, and the file now contains:
192.168.1.1
I also read where another file called resolv.conf needed to be pointed to a DNS server, which in this case, according to my Netgear router, and according to ipconfig/all on another WinBox on the same network, also shows the same 192.168.1.1 address for the DNS, so I created that file too (wasn't there) and it contains:
nameserver 192.168.1.1
There is a host name file called hostname.skge0 and it contains one line:
INTHOST
There is a hosts file, and it contains:
127.0.0.1 localhost loghost homex86
192.168.1.3 INTHOST
There is a netmasks file, and other than the commented out lines, it appears to contain one relevant line:
192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0
There is a nsswitch.conf file and other than the commented out lines, it contains:
passwd: files
group: files
hosts: files
ipnodes: files
networks: files
protocols: files
rpc: files
ethers: files
netmasks: files
bootparams: files
publickey: files
netgroup: files
automount: files
aliases: files
services: files
printers: user files
auth_attr: files
prof_attr: files
project: files
tnrhtp: files
tnrhdb: files
There is an nsswitch.dns file:
passwd: files
group: files
ipnodes: files dns
networks: files
protocols: files
rpc: files
ethers: files
netmasks: files
bootparams: files
publickey: files
netgroup: files
automount: files

Finally, I've also seen some advice using the folling command (and I tried it):
"route add default 192.168.1.1" as an alternative method of setting up route table
The only other command I've tried is:
"ifconfig skge0 192.168.1.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 up" but I suspect that was redundant as the plumb command I used to get the NIC functioning earlier probably already provided what was needed.
Finally, on this small network, I ran an ipconfig/all on a Windows based PC, to see what network settings were reported through the wireless connection, and this is an excerpt of that information:

DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1Ive recently installed Solaris v10 X86 and have two
questions. The system is a Dell E521 with 4GB RAM
and 1GB SysKonnect NIC, and internet is provided via
a cable modem, thats plugged into a Netgear router,
and the Solaris 10 box is plugged into the Netgear
router via a CAT5 ethernet cable.
1. I can connect to my router login page using the
following URL:
http://192.168.1.1/start.htm and I can also connect
to various web pages such as yahoo, if I first "ping
yahoo.com" (on another machine thats internet
enabled) and then plug the web sites ip address into
the Solaris/Mozilla browser. So it appears that I
havent been successful at pointing the Solaris x86
at a DNS server to resolve the DNS name.You can either copy nsswitch.dns to nsswitch.conf, or you can modify nsswitch.conf so that 'dns' is used for hostname lookups.
2. I've purchased a commercially available software
package and it requires a static ip address for this
Solaris x86 server. If the ip address changes, itll
stop working by design and require that I reacquire
the license file. When connecting through this
Netgear router, how do I lock this Solaris v10 x86
server into a specific ip address? (the ip address
floats presently when cycling my PCs on/off)
presently, and assume the Solaris box will too,
usually through an ip range of 192.168.1.<1 through
5>One method is setting the router so that the server's MAC address is tied to a specific IP.
Otherwise you can edit /etc/hostname.<interface> and place a static address there, forgoing DHCP services from the router. You may want the address to appear outside the router's DHCP range.

Netstat not reporting input errors with packets that have bad checksums ?
Greetings,
Is netstat not reporting any checksum errors ? I have a number of Macs reporting checksum errors when sniffing the local net. I would think that these should be reported by netstat as input errors, or collisions right ?
But it doesn't currently. See below for sample, its occurring across protocols, tcp, and udp. Usually this error is a bad ethernet port or cabling, and sometimes a sw issue. Working on eliminating the switches, router, and dsl modem by doing more testing.
But is netstat broke ? I havent seen any errors from netstat since @ 3yrs ago.
length 64, bad cksum 0 (->f9fe)!)
One other question, can one monitor firewire 400/800 ports or usb with netstat ? Its not listed with man pages or netstat -h
Thanks in advanceIm am using two commands to view the data;
netstat -I en0 2;
(no errors in or out)
and tcpdump with the verbose -v argument
( reports the cksum ( these are CRC's right, not IP header checksum ? )
At the very bottom is the netstat -s output, otherwise a snippet of tcpdump ; replaced the IP's with xxxx's to protect the innocent
Thanks for your help.....

[SOLVED] How to use command NETSTAT in archlinux?
Hi, everyone. Can you please tell me how to enable this NETSTAT command? I can't find this with pacman. In yaourt I found netstat-nat but I am not sure they are the same thing.
After I yaourted this netstat-nat I still can't use it because netfilter is not enabled in my kernel yet.

Hope that helps.
Thanks a lot for your quick answer. It did helped. I pacmaned net-tools and I can use "netstat" now. Cheers!
net-tools are deprecated and you should be using iproute2 instead: http://www.archlinux.org/news/deprecation-of-net-tools/
A more general answer to your question: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/FA … is_X_in.3F
Whoops.
Apologies for the bad advice. I must have missed that net-tools was deprecated.
Sadly I have to keep it installed as it is still a dependency of wicd as far as I know.
EDIT: Decided to get my act together and remove as many deprecated packages as I can. Now using netcfg. I'll have to pay more attention to the news.

Hey all,
If anyone saw my last post, and is curious what's happening with me, my school's IT department essentially told me to "proove it" (which is how support personnal should work, right?), which is what I'm now trying to do.
Regardless, I have a few questions/issues for anyone:
1) I can't seem to ping ANYTHING (except myself and my school's domain) without receiving a 100% packet loss. Is this because I'm behind the network? That's just a guess on my part, I could always ping outside domains back on my home network, but here I can't ping anything. It boggles my mind! Any other possible causes? I'm still connected to the internet, no doubt.
2) Is it possible to see a netstat that shows the port connections? I'm using the Network Util. right now, for simplicity, but the terminal isn't a problem for me.
3) Is it possible to do a traceroute from behind a big network, such as my college campus's? So far, I have failed. Perhaps this is related to #1....
Thanks in advance!>1) I can't seem to ping ANYTHING (except myself and my school's domain) without receiving a 100% packet loss. Is this because I'm behind the network? There is a multitude of reasons why you can't ping. If you're on a private network you don't have a direct connection to the internet, and whatever you talk through might not pass ping packets. This could be a proxy, a router, a firewall or any number of other devices.
In short, a lack of ping response does not necessarily indicate a lack of connectivity.
>2) Is it possible to see a netstat that shows the port connections? I'm using the Network Util. right now, for simplicity, but the terminal isn't a problem for me.
netstat -a will show a list of all active connections on your machine.
3) Is it possible to do a traceroute from behind a big network, such as my college campus's? So far, I have failed. Perhaps this is related to #1....
This is almost certainly related to #1. If you can't ping through your network edge it's likely you can't traceroute, either. -
Multiple times port 1521 open in netstat
First of all, I'm a newbie concerning Oracle.
When a client is connected with the database, and the network has an error for whatever reason, port 1521 stays connected in "netstat" on the server.
When I connecting the client again, the port will be opened a second time. and so one.
After a while when other clients try to connect, they get the "ORA-12516: TNS Listener could not find" error.
Question 1: If the ports are still opened, is this then an Oracle error? I mean is it Oracle server which keeps the ports open?
Question 2: If it is an oracle error, how can I resolve this?
Many thanks in advance.
PaulFirst of all you should understand what this tns error means:
ORA-12516: TNS:listener could not find available handler with matching protocol stack
Cause: None of the known and available service handlers for the given SERVICE_NAME support the client's protocol stack: transport, session, and presentation protocols.
Action: Check to make sure that the service handlers (e.g. dispatchers) for the given SERVICE_NAME are registered with the listener, are accepting connections, and that they are properly configured to support the desired protocols.
If you currently have user connections and then suddenly it stops working this could mean that the OS has reached some sort of overflow and it has run out of resources, so the listener stops bequeathing new connections and reports any further attempt as a connection error.
Please post the oracle version and specify the five version digits. It is important to apply the latest patchset available to avoid hitting known bugs. And prepare the listener and sqlnet.ora files to start tracing, this could be required for further analysis.

Established tcp connection of question
Now we have two Master LDAP server, A and B. Both of them have Replication function on.
I have encountered a problem. There are always a lot of Established tcp connection between them. Once they established this kind of tcp connection, it will never be closed and keep on increasing the connection number. This will lead LDAP A daemon become a zombie daemon so that it cannot supply the LDAP service. At this time, server A usually has a very high load. After rebooting server B, we use the following command to test server A. It turns out that the connection between this two server is still established and never be closed.
Restart Sever A ldap daemon can temporarily solve this problem. But it will repeat the above situation about one week later.
We feel very frustrated about this problem. My question is how to close this kind of tcp connection or do you have any resolution about our problem.
Thank you.

Netstat -a How do I terminate those connections?
Hi
I am having tremendous problems with my internet. After just a few minutes when restarting my modem & router (I have Virgin Cable broadband) the internet is at a speed of just above 4Mbps on a supposid 20MB connection, the internet latency goes from between 30-40 to over 900 sometimes upto 2000!
I called Virgin who asked me to do a netstat -a on my "dos prompt" on my mac by typing in cmd (god I hate it when they don't support any other OS from windows!!!) from which the results showed there were over 16 IPs with active connections running, they then told me that's the problem and to contact Apple to close the connections which are active "within the computer hardware".
Now, I don't know an awful lot about the terminal interface in Mac and I certainly can't find a simple answer in google about how to close off these active connections.
Can someone lend a hand in whether these are active "hardware connections" and if I can indeed close them?! My speed/latency is awful which is making my experience on Modern Warefare2 terrible!! :o(
Many thanks in advance

http://www.cyberciti.biz/howto/question/linux/kill-tcp-connection-using-linux-ne tstat.php
BUT I would not believe what they told you. I have more than 16 open connections on my mac and it's internet is just fine.
Unless you have a buggy application, some of these connections I would bet are normal.
Try rebooting without any startup app, see if it's still happens. If it does, your problem might just be THEIR problem. -
Questions on Print Quote report
Hi,
I'm fairly new to Oracle Quoting and trying to get familiar with it. I have a few questions and would appreciate if anyone answers them
1) We have a requirement to customize the Print Quote report. I searched these forums and found that this report can be defined either as a XML Publisher report or an Oracle Reports report depending on a profile option. Can you please let me know what the name of the profile option is?
2) When I select the 'Print Quote' option from the Actions drop down in the quoting page and click Submit I get the report printed and see the following URL in my browser.
http://<host>:<port>/dev60cgi/rwcgi60?PROJ03_APPS+report=/proj3/app/appltop/aso/11.5.0/reports/US/ASOPQTEL.rdf+DESTYPE=CACHE+P_TCK_ID=23731428+P_EXECUTABLE=N+P_SHOW_CHARGES=N+P_SHOW_CATG_TOT=N+P_SHOW_PRICE_ADJ=Y+P_SESSION_ID=c-RAuP8LOvdnv30grRzKqUQs:S+P_SHOW_HDR_ATTACH=N+P_SHOW_LINE_ATTACH=N+P_SHOW_HDR_SALESUPP=N+P_SHOW_LN_SALESUPP=N+TOLERANCE=0+DESFORMAT=RTF+DESNAME=Quote.rtf
Does it mean that the profile in our case is set to call the rdf since it has reference to ASOPQTEL.rdf in the above url?
3) When you click on submit button do we have something like this in the jsp code: On click call ASOPQTEL.rdf. Is the report called using a concurrent program? I want to know how the report is getting invoked?
4) If we want to customize the jsp pages can you please let me know the steps involved in making the customizations and testing them.
Thanks and Appreciate your patience
-PC1) We have a requirement to customize the Print Quote report. I searched these forums and found that this report can be defined either as a XML Publisher report or an Oracle Reports report depending on a profile option. Can you please let me know what the name of the profile option is?
I think I posted it in one of the threads2) When I select the 'Print Quote' option from the Actions drop down in the quoting page and click Submit I get the report printed and see the following URL in my browser.

Yes, your understanding is correct.3) When you click on submit button do we have something like this in the jsp code: On click call ASOPQTEL.rdf. Is the report called using a concurrent program? I want to know how the report is getting invoked?
No, there is no conc program getting called, you can directly call a report in a browser window, Oracle reports server will execute the report and send the HTTP response to the browser.4) If we want to customize the jsp pages can you please let me know the steps involved in making the customizations and testing them.
This is detailed in many threads.Thanks

Satellite P300D-10v - Question about warranty
HI EVERYBODY
I have these overheating problems with my laptop Satellite P300D-10v.
I did everything I could do to fix it without any success..
I get the latest update of the bios from Toshiba. I cleaned my lap with compressed air first and then disassembled it all and cleaned it better.(it was really clean insight though...)
BUT unfortunately the problem still exists...
So i made a research on the internet and I found out that most of Toshiba owners have the same exactly problem with their laptop.
Well i guess this is a Toshiba bug for many years now.
Its a really nice lap, cool sound (the best in laptop ever) BUT......
So I wanted to make a question. As i am still under warranty, can i return this laptop and get my money back or change it with a different one????
If any body knows PLS let me know.
chears
Thanks in advanceHi
I have already found you other threads.
Regarding the warranty question;
If there is something wrong with the hardware then the ASP in your country should be able to help you.
The warranty should cover every reparation or replacement.
But I read that you have disasembled the laptop at your own hand... hmmm if you have disasembled the notebook then your warrany is not valid anymore :(
I think this should be clear for you that you can lose the warrany if you disasemble the laptop!
By the way: you have to speak with the notebook dealer where you have purchased this notebook if you want to return the notebook
The Toshiba ASP can repair and fix the notebook but you will not get money from ASP.

How do I remove Overdrive books from the library that were downloaded onto my computer then transferred to my iphone? The problem is that they do not show up in iTunes.
I see this question asked a lot when I google, but they always give answers that assumes you can find the books in iTunes either under the books tab, or the audio books tab or in the music. They do not show up anywhere for me. They do not remove from the app like the ones I downloaded directly onto my iphone.the related archived article does not answer it either. I even asked a guy working at an apple store and he could not help either. Anybody...?
Thanks!there is an app called daisydisk on mac app store which will help you see exactly where the memory is focused and consumed try using that app and see which folders are using more memory
