Network Connectivity Assistant failed to start on windows 8.1

Our Windows 2012 server running direct access is working fine with the windows 7 computers that we use.
I am now coming to role out windows 8.1, when I assign the computers to the relevant groups to get the group policies it doesn't want to connect.
When I run get-daconnectionstatus nothing
then when I try and start the network connectivity assistant it fails as well telling me it cannot start?

Hi,
It seems to be a Windows 8.1 side issue, please re-post the question in our Windows 8.1 forum for assistance.

  • Network Connectivity Assistant in Windows 8.1

What happened to the Network Connectivity Assistant in Win8.1? In Win8 it would launch a "DirectAccess" dialog like the one in this blog:
    http://blog.msgeneral.nl/2012/03/direct-access-connectivity-assistant-in.html
    But in Win8.1 double-clicking and righ-clicking doesn't do anything:

As Richard points out you can only access the NCA via the following.
To access the DirectAccess connection properties in Windows 8.1, press
Window Key + I, click Change PC Settings, and then click
    Network.
Highlight Connections and click Workplace Connection.
It is a step back for those that are used to the DCA or Win8 NCA.
Note: also you need to have a email client enabled on the client to get the logs.
Also there is the "Microsoft DirectAccess Client Troubleshooting Tool "

    Hi,
So switch a LAN card fix this issue...seems a compatibility issue or maybe some packs or programs you installed recently cause this issue.
Have you manually check the network adapter driver from the PC's manufacture website? sometimes, it will be a time delay before Microsoft push out the driver update.
Check if issue exists in safemode with network, this mode will launch Windows with limited sets of files and drivers.
if you have a restore point, restore the pc to a previous point at which the pc is functioning fine.

I've got a couple of clues, with the most important being that this is not the right forum. I expect that there will only a few folks in this forum who can answer you warehouse question. Try in the database section if there is a more apropriate forum.

  • Network Cofiguration Assistant failed to insatll

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to install Oracle 9i on Fedora 9.
Initially before the installation starts, it gives a pop-up error message which says:
"Error: You do not sufficient privileges to write to the specified path. in component Database Configuration Assistant 9.2.0.1.0. Installation cannot continue for this component".
And then it gives two options: 1) Stop installation of all products and 2) Stop installation of this component only. if i select the first option, the installation aborts.
if i select the second option, the installation continues upto Oracle Network Configuration Assistant. and then it fails to install the Network Configuration Assistant with the error message:
"/u01/app/oracle/jre/1/1/8/bin/../lib/i686/native_threads/libzip.so: symbol errno, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference (libzip.so)
Unable to initialize threads: cannot find class java/lang/Thread
    Could not create java_VM"
i then installed libzip.so package with the command: yum install libzip.so
And then i tried to run the OUI again. I click next on all the windows and it still gives the pop-up error message and when i click on "install" button to reinstall, it attempts and then jumps to the screen that says "installation unsuccessfull".
Please help me out here. Thanks in advance to all.

In fact, Fedora is not a certified OS for Oracle at all. However, there are oracle users who choose this OS for testing and learning, not for production environments. In general Oracle doesn't support free linux distros, even if they are directly based on certified OS' like Redhat.

  • Windows failed to start: Insert Windows installtion disk?

    Satellite A205-S5843
Windows Update the night before. Next day, the browser  was stalling. Eventually Task Manager reported Web Site Browser was not running. I closed down all programs and hit Restart. At the restart all that came on was a small image like when an image is loading. It continued for 20 minutes. None of the buttons would do anything, not even the power button or escape button. I finally unplugged the machine. Now when I turn on the power, I get the following message...
    =============
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
    1. Insert your Windows installation disk and restart your computer.
    2. Choose language settings. Click next.
    3. Click "Repair your computer"
    file: \Boot\BCD
    Status: 0xc0000001
Info: An error occurred whi;e attempting to read the boot configuration data.
    ============
    Things I have tried:
Disks. I do not have the Windows disk. The recovery disk I made and filed when I purchased the machine gave the same error.
Various button combinations. F8 key + power button. 0 (zero) key + power button. F2 and F12 are the only buttons I can access. I tried Reset to Defaults. Same results on power start.
    Any feedback would be appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Recovering to the factory default setup, and rebuilding from there, while not always necessary, is still a good thing every now and then, especially if your system has become quite messed up or corrupted.
I am glad you were able to work it out with your Toshiba Recovery disks. In double checking your specs, it would seem your system never came with the Recovery Partition on your hard drive. Otherwise, there would have been the Toshiba Recovery Media Creator program listed on your pre-installed software, which it is not. So, keep those Recovery Disks safe, and maybe think of making disk copies of each to have a spare.
See these instructions to aid in the upgrade to Windows 7, if any problems persist try the Toshiba Windows 7 Software Installer

You are very welcome. And, thank you for letting us know what worked. We very much appreicate it when people get back to us, as most do not.
Let us know how it all turns out. Good luck.

    Hi,
Firstly, I would like to confirm with you if it worked before on Windows 7 Enterprise N version.
As I known, following are some additional features that Windows 7 Enterprise N edition has and other versions does not have:
    a. Direct Access
    b. Branch cache
    c. Federated search
You need to meet the following requirements to install the DA connectivity assistant.
Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 7 Ultimate
    1. 10 MB of disk space.
    2. 10 MB of RAM.
    3. Microsoft Word or Microsoft Word Viewer (available as a free download) can be used to view Word documents.
I would like to suggest you download and install it from official website.
    Microsoft DirectAccess Connectivity Assistant 2.0

    Hope it helps.

  • Blackberry Desktop Software slows down Network Connectivity on Win 7 start up

    Hi,
I am new so be gently..lol
I am running windows 7 64bit Home Premium. I recently noticed that on start up my PC was taking between 10 and 20 seconds to set up it's network connectivity, which previously was almost instant. There were no erros within the event logs to suggest why this was occuring. The last thing installed was the blackberry desktop manager. I uninstalled this, and found that my network connectivity was now occuring almost instantly again.
Is this a know issue with this software? I have searched the forum but cannot find anything simliar, only people saying it was slowing down start up as a whole which is not what is happening to me.
Thanks for any help or advice in advance.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Typically, if you have installed the RIM DTM software to auto-start every time you boot your PC, the boot time will increase. Personally, I've found no reason to allow DTM to auto-start...I only launch it when I need it.
To perform a full clean uninstall, see this KB:

  • Time Machine backup causes network connections to fail

We have a simple network with OS X Server (10.6.4) + a 10.6.4 Mac client and a Windows XP client. For some time we have been suffering sporadic drop outs of the network connection from the iMac OS X client to the server: the shared drives just disappear and you can't reconnect.
I have now narrowed this down to a problem with Time Machine. By logging on as a user on the OS X Server I was able to observe that the user session on the server suffered the same problem sometimes and this ONLY happens when Time Machine is running - I think its always when Time Machine is backing up the server.
Its an absolutely infuriating problem and very disruptive for our business. I am loath to switch off Time Machine on the server but don't know what else to do. Has anyone else experienced this problem or got any ideas?

Yep, Rikakiah, seems you are right, I am not alone! There are two other threads here which discuss the same issue:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11539266&#11539266
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11539227
From my testing it seems that the problem may be related to some interplay between Time Machine and LDAP - I say this because I can sometimes clear the problem and regain access to my shares by going into Workgroup Manager, removing the group assignments (which give access to the shares), saving the change, then adding the group assignments back.
This made me think that your solution should fix it, but unfortunately although I have excluded /var/db from Time Machine backups, I am still sporadically getting the problem.

  • Network Connection error when Trying to Install Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials

Thank you to anyone who can help me out here. I have a brand new machine with known working wifi and wired ethernet adapters (works under Windows 8.1) I am attempting to install Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2. During the install process, the system connects
to the internet to download updates to help along the install. No problem here. Further down the road after restarting several times and now during the "Configuring Windows Server Essentials" step of the install, I am told "There is no network
connection. Please fix the connection issue and try again."
When troubleshooting the connection, I am told that the wifi adapter drivers may not be installed. I have a wireless card in the machine and have also tried disabling the wifi adapter and have been connected successfully via the ethernet port this whole
    time.
Help, I'm stuck and have been to this point in the install 4-5 times already.
    Thank you.

Is this a laptop?  Can you remove the wifi? Disable it in BIOS?
Does the wifi have an IP and internet when it throws the error?
BTW, when the wizard ask about updates say no.  Takes way too long and does not help anything
Change the binding order and put the wired on top.
    The Steps?
Just open your Network and Sharing Center. (Change adapter settings)
Press an ALTkey on your keyboard to show the menu bar.
    Click on the Advancedmenu
    choose Advanced Settings option
Adjust your binding order for your NICs to ensure your wired ones are at the TOP

  • OC4J_BI_Forms Fails To Start After Windows Reboot

    Hi,
After upgrading the metadata repository database to 9.2.0.6 and updating the compatible parameter and creating a new pfile, my OC4J_BI_Forms server fails to start automatically after a reboot.
I can start the OC4J_BI_Forms server manually and it works fine, but would like it to start automatically after a reboot like it used to.
I checked the server.xml file and verified autostart is set to true.
I also checked the server's log files and opmn log files, but couldn't find any error messages saying OC4J tried to start and failed.
I noticed that OID is taking a little longer to start than it used to. Is it possible this lag is causing the OC4J_BI_Forms to fail starting automatically?
All other servers start fine after a reboot - only OC4J_BI_Forms is not working correctly.
    Thanks,
    Jim

<p>As a workaround for this problem, I created a simple batch file containing the command:</p>
    <p><tt>d:\orahome2\opmn\bin\opmnctl startproc ias-component=OC4J</tt></p>
<p>I then created a scheduled task in Windows Task Scheduler to run the batch file on server startup. So far it seems to work fine.</p>
<p>Would still like to know why the OC4J_BI_Forms instance is failing to autostart, if anyone has any ideas.</p>

  • XP mode looses network connectivity periodically on multiple Dell Optiplex Windows 7 Professional PCs.

XP mode looses connectivity periodically throughout the day on a daily basis but Windows 7 Pro host PC never looses connectivity.  Problem is at its worst when the XP mode has been running all day.  If XP mode is rebooted once daily, problem is
reduced but not gone.  Some days are better than others.  One day it will happen to one xp mode and not another.  Another day one xp mode will fail repeatedly while another works OK.  There is no rhythm to the failures.   Problem
began with the 1st XP Mode environment.
I can disable and enable the virtual NIC and regain connectivity.
The problem occurs during batch processing of DOS based payroll software using many open files and handles.  Software runs from XP Mode as shortcut to Mapped Server Drive letter.
    Environment is small.
    1 windows 2008 R2 Server as Domain/File server. Dell T420 Server
3 Windows 7 Pro with XP mode.  All XP Mode fail periodically.  All Dell PCs, one OptiPlex 3010, one OptiPlex 390, 1 Dell Dimension.
2 Windows XP Pro, OptiPlex 330. Real mode never looses connectivity.
    All drivers up to date.
    Router firmware up to date.
    Power management disabled.
I disabled the Servers Auto Disconnect.
XP mode Network settings using physical adapter, not NAT.
I've been reading forums and troubleshooting this for months.  I've tried everything except recreate the VHD.

#1 Do you have any supporting articles you can point me to?
#2 What do you mean by "Temperature"?  Physical heat?  The offices are kept at approx 75°.
#3  Will look at them again.  As I said, I've been troubleshooting this for quite a while.  I don't recall any Eventviewer errors related to this but I will check again.
    Thanks again for your input.

  • Apple mobile device failed to start in Windows 7

I'm receiving an error messgae upon iTunes install "Apple mobile device service failed".  I'm using Windows 7.  I uninstalled iTunes & when I tried to reinstall I conintued to get the same message.  I even restored my PC back to Jan-21 and tried to reinstall iTunes again and still received the same error message. Any thoughts?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)

  • RD Connection Broker Fails to install on Windows 2012 R2, fresh install

I have been fighting this for a week
Trying to install RD connection broker service on a Server 2012 R2.  I've had multiple errors, ranging from the "Server pending reboot" issue, to the install just hanging for 15-20 minutes and then failing.  This is NOT on a DC, and I've
tried it on a fresh 2012 R2 server, and a fully updated Server 2012 R2.  It has to be something on the domain I'm joined too, as I can install it with no problem on test servers/domains at my office.

    Hi CitadelTCS,
Some folk meet this issue because the server is DC, in your case could you try to run SFC /SCANNOW then monitor this issue again.
