New iPad 2 vs Refurbished iPad 3

Hello, I want a buy an iPad, I found in Romania, new iPad 2 for 336 $ but now I saw an refurbished iPad 3 for 315 $. What to buy? Is refurbished still good?

When you talk about refurbished, do you mean from the Apple on-line store? We have bought two for our family last year and another one as a gift last month. They have been great.
If bought from the Apple on-line store, the front and back covers are new, have new batteries, and a full one year warranty. Most resellers do not so this. I would not buy anything like this from anywhere but the Apple on-line refurb store.
The ipad 3 is the one that was discontinued months after it came out, and for many reasons, you might want to avoid that one.
There are minis in the store, too, if you're interested and people love their minis (too small for my eyes.) There are 32gb for $359.00 refurbished. Mini 16 gb is $279.00 US dollars.
Whatever you decide, you should get as much space as you can because if you run out of space, you'll have to delete apps, pictures, music, etc. to add to your ipad.
Tough decision, and I'm sure many other posters will have their opinions. So review them all and then make a decision that you'll be happy with and enjoy your new ipad.
Hope this helps.

  • New Ipad replaced for refurbished?

Hi all, a week or so ago , I got a new Ipad 64gb in black, all was fine for a while, until I saw a miniscule white dot on the lower left side of the screen.
I tried to clean it off, hoping it was some dust or whatnot, alas it didn't come off. Iassumed it was a dead pixel. Later that day I phoned applecare and booked an appointment at my local Apple Store.
The genius that was there was very helpful, stating that indeed it was a fault with the Ipad and not a scratch and would be replaced with a 'new' Ipad. So, off he went and brought a box down which wasn't like the ones you get new Ipads in.
At the time, I took a quick glance over, all looked fine so signed agreeing to erase etc etc and came home. Upon inspection, there are several scuffs to the sides with minor paint chips.
My question is this, can I take this one back, and also, if yes, can I demand for a new Ipad as opposed to a refurbished one. Yes, I'm partly at fault for not checking it out properly, but I'd paid quite alot of money and surely a new one isn't too much to ask is it?
Sorry for lengthy post, and I hope this is the right section.
    James

Hi Demo, thankyou for replying. I suppose I don't have an issue with it being refurbished, so long as it actually has no real defects to it.
It has a case and you can't really see the scuffs when its on, however I suppose I was abit taken aback when I wasn't really at fault, and they didn't offer a new one, seeing as I only purchased not to long ago.
I know I'm nitpicking, guess I should've looked it over bit more closely at the store.
Will let you know what the outcome is

  • If you brake your ipad, and they replace it for 250 dollars, is the new ipad refurbished??

    I want to know

You don't have any choice in the matter.  It is at the Apple's discretion whether you will be provided a refurbished or new unit.  It is highly unlikely that they will give you a new iPad if they have refurbished units available.  See http://support.apple.com/kb/index?page=servicefaq&geo=United_States&product=ipad

  • A few questions about common "issues" before buying New iPad

I am hoping to pick up the new iPad in the next few weeks, however I have read up on some issues which I'd like some information on.
I have been using my GF's iPad 2 a lot and I really love it, however I am dead set on buying the new one, I have become pretty resolution-spoilt by the awesome screen on the 4S and this is the primary factor in wanting this new model.
With the following concerns, assuming that an iPad that I may buy might have one or more of them, could you please inform me of: any currently known official or unofficial fix, if the problem could most likely be resolved in an update or if it is likely that since the problem came to light that the later runs to be built were adjusted to avoid the problem? Thanks.
OK- first up, the bad wifi problem that people have. This is the biggest concern to me, as I use wifi a lot and won't have access to 4G, and only occasionaly access to 3G.
Secondly, the heating... OK this is not a deal breaker, I understand that it isn't a real problem however if it could be solved so that it runs almost as cool as the 2 that would be great.
Thirdly, charge times and the extra hour over 100%... Again I do realise that these aren't so much issues as just the way that it works, however I would hope that now lots of people have complained, an update would adjust the display to be more accurate, to say 100% only when it has fully charged, purely because I would rather know... Or perhaps have 100% change colour on absolute 100%. The other thing, 7 hours charging, is there a more powerful adaptor that 1: reduces the charge time, and 2: if you are using a powerdrinking app while charging, will actualy continue charging rather than just slowing the battery drain (I read that some apps will keep draining battery while on charge).
finaly, I have read about screen hue problems, this wont be too much of a problem, as I will be able to check this in store to be sure that the screen is nice, colour balanced and free of dead pixels, I will compare it to my GFs iPad 2 and also the iPhone 4, because I know that the iPad 2 is supposed to look a little more blue to give it a cold feel, while the new model and the iPhone 4S have a slightly yellowed screen for warmth, it's just that lots of people have complained about theres' being too yellow.
Thanks very much for any useful info on this.

A lot of the posts about lack of charging is because iPad "3" users are trying to use an iPod charger, iPhone charger or connected to their computer where they get the "Not Charging" indication. A few others had a defective charger that was replaced by Apple. It remotely possible that a few iPads have defective batteries or charging circuits.
Many of the wifi connection problems are related to the users brand of wireless routers, the router setup, or the need to select a different wireless channel due to interference.
The high temp problem seems to be when users are charging AND running games with intensive graphics. The display on the new iPad takes a lot more power than the iPad 2 display.
Overall I would guess that the chance of a defective iPad is less than 1%.

  • Will there be a trade-in offered for the New iPad and the iPad with Retina Display?

I don't really understand what's going on. I bought The New iPad in early August and was told that it was the one with Retina Display and it was the top of the line. I cannot find a "New ipad" on Apple's website. In fact, the only iPad with Retina Display is one with the lightning connector. I'm utterly confused and feel very jipped. Can anyone maybe explain to me? Where has the "iPad 3" gone on the website? And will I be able to do a trade for the newest considering I just bought it?
    Thanks
    Kelsey

The iPad 4, which is now also called the iPad with retina display, essentially replaces the iPad 3, which is no longer available except as a refurbished product. The naming is confusing, as both the iPad 3 and iPad 4 had a retina display. The iPad 4 has the same price points but with a fater processor, better Facetime camera, lightning connector, and faster wi-fi. As soon as it came out yesterday, the iPad 3 was removed from the Apple store. It has essentially been discontinued.
People who bought the iPad 3 within the last 14 days can return it no questions asked. There are stories about some stores allowing an exchange for the iPad 4 if you bought the iPad 3 within the last 30 days, but there's nothing official from Apple on that, and it seems to vary from store to store. I called my local Apple store, and they said no, but I'm waiting for a call back from a manager to confirm this.
I think you may be out of luck trying to return or exchange it at the Apple Store, but you can look a selling it and putting the money toward a new model. Here's a link to an article with some info that may help:
    http://9to5mac.com/2012/10/24/top-places-to-trade-a-third-generation-no-so-new-i pad-for-cash-or-credit/
Good luck. It's definitely a lousy thing for Apple to do to iPad 3 users.

  • New iPad, side switch failure?

About 1-2 days ago, I started having problem with the side switch, I am no longer able to unmute or unlock rotation by using side switch.
If I choose side switch to Mute, no matter how I toggle switch button, it stays at Mute status, no system sound, no lock sound, no keyboard sound, no notification sound, no game sound... but Video/Music/YouTube are OK.
If I choose side switch to Rotation Lock, no matter how I toggle switch button, the "Rotation Lock" icon always appears in status bar.
Usually when you toggle side switch button, the screen will show a big icon to tell it is now muted/unmuted, or rotation locked/unlocked, but now the big icon does not appear any more.
Looks like my iPad sets side switch's default as Mute & Rotation Lock, and does NOT allow to change from the hardware button.
I tried reboot, reset all settings, restore as a new iPad, nothing worked.
Does that look like a hardware failure?

    Hey,
If it's still an issue after a restore, then it most likely is a hardware problem which you can't fix yourself.
Replacements can be refurbished, but you won't be able to tell the difference. If it's not 'as new' they'll replcae it again for you! Even so, if you ask nicely, they may offer you a new one!
Restoring from a backup does take a long time, and I fully understand that the drive to the store is a long way, but there's really not much else you can do. Make it a day out, go shopping while you're there, find a restaurant for some lunch, and then that 1 1/2 hour journey won't seem to pointless!
Sorry about your troubles, I wish I could do more.
Have a great day, and let me know if you have any more questions.
    Nathan

If your iPod Touch, iPhone, or iPad is Broken
Apple does not fix iDevices. Instead, they exchange yours for a refurbished or new replacement depending upon the age of your device and refurbished inventories. On rare occasions when there are no longer refurbished units for your older model, they may replace it with the next newer model.

Later in the year the services may be extended as Apple Stores become equipped and staffed with the proper repair expertise. • Brand new ipad 2...did I get duped?

Brand new ipad 2...Should it be asking me to restore it when I turn it on for the first time? Could it be refurbished or a fake? Did not buy from Apple Store. My first ipad2 came from Apple and had a charge on it when I initially turned it on and also did not need to be restored.  I am confused and want to see if I need to return it and buy somewhere else.  If this is normal, I would like to go ahead and hook it up to my pc and run the restore.

At some pioint in set up, you should be asked if you want to restore from an existing back up, but it should NOT be a required step.
    Where did you purchase it?

  • New ipad blue hue (ipad 3)

Has anyone noticed on the New ipad screen blue hue around the edges especially when there is a white background? If you look closely you can see A light blue color especially on the top and the bottom of the screen against a white background ? is this normal?

You cannot tell for sure. Nobody can.
If your judgment is based on stats, then I guess you will find out that there're not so many users out there posting on a forum complaining about such a "defect", simply because either they've already asked for a replacement or they're happy with their device in first place. This is not a "huge" defect like dead pixels, color tints or blotchy dark patches for which you can find many discussions on this forum. So, if this is the case, you would probably keep asking yourself "am I the unlucky one?" forever, thus please do yourself a favor and ask for a replacement.
Otherwise please consider this example: if I ask my father to look at my iPad's display he says he can't see the "defect". My girlfriend can. The iPad is the same so who's right and who's wrong?
My point is that you have to decide.
Basing on my own experience (I did it 4 times with the iMac), it's not worth trying to replace the iPad hoping to receive a "perfect" one: maybe you're lucky and would get a better one or maybe not. The fact is that replacement units are usually refurbished products that means you're going to get the device someone else has returned (properly inspected and cleaned by Apple, of course). Thus the highest chance of getting a good one is the one you already had buying your brand new unit. If you're still within the 14 days of "grace period" you can ask for a refund a buy a new one and this is probably the best option, otherwise follow my suggestion: keep it and enjoy your iPad, it's awesome!

  • Does apple give new ipads for faulty ipad

my girlfriend got a new ipad for apple but it freezes so she called apple and reported and they said the where going to send her a new one but the never asked her to send the old one back to them .so those apple realy change faulty products for new products or is she lieing to me .

More than likely, when the new one arrives, there will be a shipping label to return the defective device. To get the new device, she more than likely had to provide credit card information. If the defective device is not returned within a certain time frame, they will charge the credit card for the cost of the device.
Apple does not let people keep defective devices; they collect them, repair them, and have them ready to sell or provide to others as refurbished devices.

I have dented the back of my new iPad and it is causing a little blur on the screen. Can this be fixed?

Yes, but "fix" entails replacing yours with a refurbished one at a reduced cost. There is no physical fix in the sense of removing the back unless you were to do that yourself.
Damage caused by you is not covered under the warranty. You can take it to your local Apple retailer to see what can be arranged.
