New Palm Treo 850 and New HP Laptop, WIndows 7

I have Microsoft Outlook 7 and would like to know where to begin sync between this and my new phone.  I need detailed instructions.
Post relates to: Treo Pro T850 (Sprint)

Hello Clnked and welcome to the Palm forums.
For Windows 7 and Office 2007, you will need to use Microsoft's Windows Mobile Device Center software.  You can learn more about it, and how to install it, on the Microsoft website.

  • Connecting my gen 4-5 nano to new HP laptop windows 8 using USB 3.0 port computer restarts

Connecting my gen 4-5 nano to my new HP laptop Windows 8 using USB 3 port itunes opens then an error message "your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart ........." WDF Violation. If I don't disconnect the nano the computer will keep restarting. After restarting a window opens saying it wants to send the following files to Microsoft "C:\Windows\Minidump\010413-20875-01.dmp, C:\Users\Curt\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-69015-0.sysdata.xml, C:\Windows\Memory.DMP". It does this using any of the 3 USB 3 ports. Using the USB 2 port it works just fine. Thanks for any help and as info.

I found the solution!!!  Even ended up educating the tech -- who didn't have a clue.
I have a brand new  7th gen iPod Nano, a brand new Windows 8 laptop, and iTunes 11. Everything was working all fine and dandy until I unchecked "Enable Disc Usage in iTunes on my iPod.  Then all **** broke loose.  I got the blue screen of death with the WDF_violation and I couldn't even plug my Nano in without it crashing my computer, let alone access iTunes to re-enable Disc Usage. Because the crashes happened immediately after I did that I just KNEW it had something to do with that.  Trouble is, I couldn't fix it.... or so I thought.
I was on the phone with the tech, who was telling me it was a driver issue ( impossible because both the laptop and iPod are brand new) and I was looking around in iTunes while she did.
HERE IS YOUR SOLUTION:  Edit --> Preferences --> Devices.  Check Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically.  Then plug in your iPod, re-enable the Disc Usage, and voile!!!!!!  Problem solved.

  • Separate Palm desktop installs for Palm M505 and its apps and Palm Treo 680 and its apps on same Windows XP computer?

    Hello:
I'm trying to do a workaround. I've got a Palm M505 that has a terrific keyboard that hooks up to it. This lets me write documents in a very portable way. The Treo 680 never had the equivalent, really full-sized external keyboard made compatible with it. So, I want to create documents on the M505 but otherwise mostly use the Treo 680.
Here's the rub. When I tried to sync both devices to my Palm Desktop version 4.1.2 for Windows XP, it didn't work. Hotsync tries to synchronize apps that won't work on the M505. Also, the versions of Documents to Go are very different (5.x versus 8.x).
I would love to have a separate Palm Desktop installation for each device, so I can have a nice desktop environment for each by launching them separately. But, the Palm Desktop installation "wizard" shuts down and won't give me the opportunity to do a separate Desktop install.
Any ideas other than buying an ultra-small laptop and dropping this kludgy scheme? For instance, if I were to copy the installed files from one directory to another, would this work, or would it not be set up in the Registry?
    Thanks!

    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Okay. Stubbornness pays off! I was able to beam documents between my Palm M505 and Treo 680, avoiding the need for complicated syncing of both Palms to my laptop machine. I was also able to beam documents from both Palms to my Dell Inspiron M300 laptop, running Windows XP Pro.
When beaming between Palm devices, the results were better. In the M505, Documents to Go version 5.004 doesn't translate documents into Microsoft Word format but into something it calls Word to Go. The Treo has DTG version 8.003, which is able to read files in Word to Go format and save in native Microsoft Word for Windows format.
However, even when beaming a Word to Go (old format) document directly onto the Desktop of my Windows XP machine, it gave me a document I could open, with the text I'd input following a bunch of characters Word obviously didn't understand. If I add the file from my desktop to the newer Documents to Go version on my laptop, I expect it will translate it into a Word file when it syncs to the Treo but haven't tested that. In either case, beaming between Palm devices is the easiest solution and completely solves the problem.
For any readers who are interested, the reason I've so stubbornly tried to solve this problem is that I'm a fast touch typist. My old Palm M505 plugs directly into a wonderful, old Palm Portable Keyboard that is full-sized. Because it's a hard-wired connection, I can type fast. That old keyboard compresses into the same folded footprint as some new foldover external keyboards. It does this even though much bigger by folding in an accordian-like fashion, with four flat surfaces folder together. That keyboard design now exists in some of the keyboards sold by IGo corporation (their old name for it was Sierra Stowaway Bluetooth Keyboard). But, they were unable to figure out how to handshake their Bluetooth with the odd Bluetooth configuation in the Treo 680. Why Palm made the Bluetooth library different in the Treo 680 from other Treos is a mystery to me, but enough of this tangent. Some interested in this workaround may be curious for similar reasons.

  • Palm Treo 755P and 7.02 Hotsync Causing Knip Fits . . . .

I decided to update my Palm Desktop SW from version 4.2 to the newest version 6.2  It is running on Windows XP Media Center 2005.  Since I have done this (and uninstalled, reinstalled a couple times), the Palm Treo 755P hangs up at the sync of the Datebook (from Dataviz).  When I unselect the Datebook conduit, it hangs up on the Address (Contacts).  Also, every time Hotsync ends, I get the error that a problem has occurred and the program closes (every time).  When I go back over to my other XP machine with Palm 4.2, everything works like a champ again.  Can anyone explain why I am experiencing these two types of problems?  Thanks in advance.  BTW, if there is a thread that is solving these issues, please provide the link.

It may be a corrupted install of Palm desktop. If you have all your data backed up on another PC and on the Treo, you will need to "clean" uninstall Palm desktop and re-install. I would suggest using 4.x version instead of 6.2. There have been data loss issues with 6.2. This can happen if Palm desktop is open and the PC shuts down, a Windows update happens with Palm desktop open.
During the re-install, skip the sync and finish the install. After the install is complete, change the conduits to handheld overwrites desktop and then sync.
Here are the "clean" uninstall instructions.
You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
If this is the first time you are installing Palm desktop and encountering a problem, skip the previous step.
For Palm desktop 6.2, look in the following location for the folders and files, my documents, PalmOS desktop. You will find the username folder in this location.
Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done, you will need to delete some registry keys
from your PC Operating System registry.
Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember. In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install, and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are
you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
BUT do not turn off your computer.
The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
you for a username, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right corner of the hotsync screen.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
    http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.
One other issue that can cause the sync to stop is data corruption. I would suggest scnning the data on the Treo to see if it is corrupted.
There may be database corruption causing the issue. Click on the following link for the program called DbFixiT. This program has a trial version that you can download and install on your Palm OS device. The trial version will scan for database corruption and then report the corruption. You can then find the records causing the problem and fix them yourself or you can purchase the program and have it automatically fix the records.
    http://www.pimlicosoftware.com/dbfixit.htm
To install the program, set all conduits to "do nothing" except quick install or install if using Palm desktop 6.2.
After you install the program on the handheld, run the scan and also scan for Blobs in the calendar.
After you clean-up the database on the handheld, set the conduits in hotsync to handheld overwrites desktop and perform a hotsync.
For reference purposes, click on the following link for the support page for your device on the kb.palm.com webpage.

  • ISync, Palm Treo 650, and my sanity

Just bought a Palm Treo 650 this evening and I'm having the hardest time.
Been trying to iSync via USB with mixed luck. I installed the software that came with the phone, made sure my HotSync settings were correct, and hit the Hotsync button on the USB cable.
Nothing happened for several tries. Was as if the cable was broken as the Palm just couldn't contact the computer and would eventually time out.
Then when I used the AC adapter along with the USB I got a different result. The Palm and Mac were now talking. But it did give me errors regarding the conduits being in conflict. So I changed the settings on some of the conduits and I finally got a successful sync.
Well semi-successful. Some of the stuff didn't seem to be syncing. Like some of my iCal entries. So I found an article showing how to drag some of the conduits to the Disabled folder. Which I did. And now ever since I cannot seem to get the the Palm and Mac to talk again. I get the "Connecting with the desktop using Cradle/Cable" for a while and then the "The connection between your handheld computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup and try again."
Anyone know where I'm going wrong? Would really appreciate some help/advice.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
There are apparently several issues in play here. So long as you are willing to live the the limitations of the iSync Palm Conduit and synchronize via only one path—either USB or Bluetooth, but not selectively moving back and forth between the two—you can configure iSync to synchronize contact data with the Address Book and calendaring and task data with iCal.
With the exception of non-conflicting conduits like Memos, you will be unable to synchronize at all with the Palm Desktop. [Palm conduits which conflict with iSync are those used by various models to synchronize contacts—Address Conduit and Contact Conduit—those used to synchronize calendars—Calendars Conduit and Datebook Conduit—and those used to synchronize tasks—Tasks Conduit and ToDo Conduit.]
Unless you thoroughly understand how this technology works, it's not a great idea to 'experiment' by moving conduits manually. A properly configured Conduits folder for iSync users should contain at least…
    • Apple [the Finder name of the iSync Palm Conduit]
    • Backup
    • Install
    • Memos Conduit [only if you want to continue to synchronize memos to the Palm Desktop]
    • any non-conflicting third-party or additional conduits you want to use
Other conduits should reside in the Disabled Conduits folder.
You add a Palm device, either via USB or Bluetooth, using the Enable Palm OS Syncing… option under the Devices menu of iSync. You set the synchronization parameters for your device in the drop-down configuration pane exposed when you press the Tungsten icon in the main window of iSync.
You did the right thing by installing the Palm Desktop software using the bundled CD-ROM that shipped with your Treo 650. But, you should have upgraded that application by applying the Palm Desktop 4.2.1 revision D, available here:
    http://www.palm.com/us/support/macintosh/macdesk421revd.html
If you elect to upgrade your copy, just run that installer. Do not attempt to remove any existing components of the Palm Desktop. And keep in mind that though you may not choose to use it at all, its HotSync Manager and Transport Monitor components are critical to the operation of iSync.

  • Palm Treo 700p and QuickBooks 2009

Before I upgraded to QB 2009 Pro, I used to use QB 2007 Pro and a little program called Time to Time. I also have a Palm Treo 700p (Palm OS) The Time to Time program would interface between QB and the Palm pilot and would allow me to select a customer, start time keeping, document what I did and then I could stop the time. When I hotsync'ed, it would copy the data down to my pc, I ran the Time To Time program to transfer the data straight into QB.
Now after I've upgraded to QB 2009 Pro, my Time to Time program won't work and the company doesn't exist anymore so I'm looking for another program that I can do the same with - keep track of my time, hotsync the data into QB 2009 Pro.
    Can anyone suggest anything?

Connect your device via usb cable to your computer do not hot sync. Start Ptunes and wait until they connect. You will get a list of things you can do on your computer. It self explanatory from there. You must sync the 2 devices in WMP or what ever player you have on your computer.
As for the ringtones there are several thread explaning what you want to do try this one around page 13,14 or 15 it will explain how to do it without an sd card. http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=video_and_photo&thread.id=4395
Ps the thread is says its about Centros but it will work the same on your 680

  • Issue with a brand new HP laptop, windows 8 preinstalled

    Dear all,
I have the following issue. I just unpacked my HP Envy 4 laptop (windows 8 preinstalled). I finnished the first setup of the laptop and I had the windows 8 "metro" screen, after that the laptop restarted and since then I just get a sign that I need to perform recovery. I can enter the system diagnostig and system information, but I can't access the boot device option, BOIS setup and system recovery - if I press F9 F10 or F11 I receive this blue screen.
The error in this blue screen is 0x000225 - a required device isn't connecte or cannot be accessed. I searched the internet for this error, but the only suggestions are for virtual machines to change the lan adpter or to enable the acpi support.
I have installation Windows 8 flash drive (from my other laptop) but I cant boot from it as well. Any idea how can I fix this, or I need to ship pack the laptop to HP?

    Hi TPAKTOUCTA,
Take a look at this document and let me know if it helps.  This recovery document may help as well.
Please let me know & Good luck!

  • ActiveSync for Palm Treo 850

I encountered a problem when I tried to sync my phone and PC. On connecting the 2, I got a message that the passwords did not match. Since I had added a POP email address to my OutLook since the last time I had synchronised, I assumed this may have something to do with it.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the synchronisation software on my PC (using Vista) - did not work.
Tried a soft reset on the phone device - did not work.
Tried a hard reset on the pone device - did not work.
Tried both uninstalling and reinstalling software and a hard reset. I now get partial synchronisation - the calendar synchonises and VERY limited portions of the contacts, but not all of them.
Any suggestions as to what to do next?
Post relates to: Treo Pro T850U (Unlocked)

OK When you say very limited portions of the contacts sync, do you mean that it starts to sync the contacts and then stops and gets hung up? If that is what is happening it is probably corrupt data in your contacts that is causing this. To check and to fix this you need to go out to Google and do a search for DBFixit. This program you can run and it will tell you if there is any corrupt data and where the data is so you can delete it manually.  There is no charge for the software at this point.  If it finds a bunch of corrupt entries you can purchase the software for 12.95 (I think) and it will do all the repairs for you automatically. Let me know if this helps....

  • I have an old video ipod, how do I get the photos off of it and onto my laptop (windows 8.1)?

This iPod is so old. The battery doesn't really work anymore. So I want to take the pictures off of it and get them on my laptop.

I'm not sure. My laptop says that the charger isn't recognized, but it works fine with my iPod touch. So it's about a 50/50 chance I can get it to work. I got it working yesterday, and I could see on iTunes how much storage it had left and all that, so I think if I just play around with it some I can get it to work.

  • Vital webOS limitations Palm must fix and my "wish list" for software developers

I have now updated following many many times, in my free Best Buy guide - Vantage Technology Magazine - so it's time to post an update here... Just as I done in PreCentral ;-)
WebOS is now the clearly best alternative, for most people - but the Personal Information Management functionality, got a lot worse since the "old" Palm OS and that is a huge problem, because a really smart PIM suite with excellent ToDo and calender functions, can really improve your life and that make it the most valuable part of a smartphone, if it work great... And if Palm finally begin to fix this limitations, can they also advertise "We make the best mobile OS even better" each time they update and not just use the updates as bug fixes...
Then do I live in Sweden and we don't got the Palm Pre yet - so I could not test anything myself and that mean that some details below might be wrong or already fixed... So please email me - [email protected] - if something need adjustment... And that also mean that I maybe missed some more problems, that was very hard or impossible to see in screen shots and reviews... And I will actually not buy any device with webOS before most of the first 8 limitations below, are fixed either by Palm or someone else - because I simply don't want to pay for clearly worse functionality, than I already have with my "old" lovely Palm Treo 680!!
I read that many share my views, about following problems - but PLEASE comment this post anyhow, if you feel the same about ANY part... So Palm finally wake up, understand that people actually are very different (with dramatically different needs) and simply give us the vital options / settings, that only will make webOS dramatically better for heavy users and absolutely NOT make anything less fancy, if they simply let the current "look" be the default setting... Type Palm will only win, if they make "the best mobile OS" even better!!
    01) There is still no complete desktop sync for every important Personal Information Management part, as ToDo lists with categories... Except if you are connected to an Exchange server... You can only back up automatically to Palm's servers, but without any option to edit your own text from your notebook... So complete desktop sync should actually be included in the box, as an alternative and offer sync through both USB and Wifi, plus maybe Bluetooth... And naturally include some kind of desktop application, so you can save and edit the calendar and tasks in your notebook... Now must you first buy MS Outlook (if you not have that) and a third party sync program, that not even handle ToDo lists... But palm have at least a migration tool, that help you move all your data (one way only) from an old Palm device and Palm desktop (or MS Outlook) to a new pre...
    02) There is a lot of "elegant" waste of screen space and very BIG fonts, in almost every basic view... That should naturally be an option, because and absolutely not a default setting, you can't even change... Because most people need just 33% more space, to max 50% more if you have huge finger tips, for accurate finger navigation (compared to a stylus) and NOT more than twice the space, to show the same text info... They should at least offer two extra alternative settings - that show two or three times as much info (at every view that now use huge fonts) and that would anyhow be easy to navigate with your fingertips... Yes, the events have now small text in the calender (that not should get smaller) and many may love the new spacious design, with a lot of empty space and huge fonts... But there should naturally be some alternative setting - for everyone that have normal finger tips, a lot of info in the smartphone and don't want to scroll like crazy.... And it's especially very easy to miss vital info, if you can't see it directly, as in Tasks and Contacts... So I sincerely hope it soon will be possible to "tighten" up all the new empty space between text lines and at least select smaller fonts (naturally together with less empty space around the letters) in the settings... And the absolute best would be if you can select that options separately for the tasks, contacts, email, calendar and messaging... And then choose between four text sizes, with the current as 4 with a bit bigger text for calendar events and "modern" or roman fonts... Because if some tightening NOT is possible, will the the bigger screen only be useful for web browsing and that would be very very sad... Yes, you can now only see HALF the info in Tasks (without scrolling or missing vital stuff) even if the screen is much bigger, than I can see directly in my "old" Palm Treo 680 and that vital missing option, would make Palm Pre practically useless for me!!
    03) The included Task application seems to be almost worthless, because of five big usability limitations... -1- You can't see if there is an "extra note page" connected to the task... -2- It don't show the priority either... -3- You can now only select 3 priority levels (just as in Windows mobile and Symbian) even if it was 5 levels before... -4- The huge fonts and plenty of empty space around the text, make it only possible to view 6 task without scrolling, instead of the 11 task that I can view on the much smaller Treo 680 screen and that is almost insane, when a simple setting / option could allow 12 task in Pre, with clearly more empty space around the text (for easy finger navigation) than before... -5- Then will task only sync with Exchange servers (if you have that) but not with Google, as example... But the lousy task management, can of course be fixed soon by Palm or in good time, with extra programs... And it support at least "multiple todo lists" as categories, so it work slightly better than simple Nokia smartphones... Then can you anyhow use the old PalmOS task application (that not have any of this limitations) with help of the amazing "Classic" emulator, instead of the crippled webOS version!!
    04) The last BIG problem I found, was the fact that webOS not support any categories (as friends, biz, service and shops) in the contacts application any more - which are very bad news, if you have about 200 contacts and extremely inconvenient for people with a lot more than 600 contacts... Note that otherwise is webOS contact application clearly more advanced than before... And I expect there will be some even more advanced contact applications, with category functionality, pretty soon - even if that naturally should be included by Palm, from the start... Then can you actually use the old PalmOS contact application (that not have this limitation) with help of the amazing "Classic" emulator, instead of the otherwise great webOS version!!
    05) In the calendar should you also be able to remove the fancy "empty time holder" completely, to free up even more space for real calender info!!
    06) The "date picker" that help you select another day for an entry in the calendar, should naturally show a mini calendar (with dated and weekdays) as it was before and not just let you select days from a list, guessing what weekday that might be!!
    07) The "universal" search don't search in the Calendar, any documents, in the message part of emails or Tasks* and that is very strange - it should at least be a two step search, with a "Search deeper in Pre" option, before Pre offer you to search in Google... Or even get a finer possibility, to select where the Pre normally should search... * But you can search Task, if you are inside.
    08) There is no longer any "scroll bar" that show where you are, not even as an option and it should be a slim transparent indicator, that also show how big the actual view is of the total page.
    09) Then do I also want the magnificent "floating event" functionality (at least in a third party application) that I now have in DateBk6 so you can show vital events that should be done today, in the calender and get them automatically moved to next day, every new day... But before you get this in a webOS application, can you use DateBk6 (made for the old PalmOS) that have this great functionality, with help of the amazing "Classic" emulator!!
    10) The pretty "Memo" application is pointless (just as before) when you anyhow have Task and Calender... And it is not possible to sync, so what you really need is a good plain text editor - that is easy to back up and open from your notebook, rock solid, ultra fast, has smart search & replace and handle minimum 144 huge text documents, in 12 folders... Including at least txt, html and hopefully some other file types... I sincerely hope (and guess) that someone will make a fine text editor, because a true Word document editor IS a lot more clumsy and slower to use, in a smartphone... But you can probably use the excellent old PalmOS application CardTXT that have the text functionality you may need and more, with help of the amazing "Classic" emulator!!
    11) There is no multiple email management, so you have to delete or move each email separately and that should naturally be fixed... Even if you (maybe) can do that in Google email or outlook, instead? * And you can now "delete all" in the trash folder!
    12) You can't change the alert sound for texts and emails!
    13) Then is the new program launcher, rather limited... You get only three windows, without any helpful category names - like main, games, web favo, friends, settings and extra - you get only a simple I to III style indicator at bottom... But you will probably be able to buy a more advanced launcher, soon... And you can temporary put your 12 main programs (that not is on the quick bar) on the first page, web favo's plus settings on the second and everything else on the last page... But there is now a free "patch" at www.precentral.net that add extra pages and two more, that show 4 or 5 icons on each row... And you can in addition use the old PalmOS application manager (that not have this limitations) for any excellent "old" programs, with help of the amazing "Classic" emulator!
    14) Pre shuts down the phone, when you connect it as a USB drive and you have to enter your PIN to get back online.... Yes, that is one thing that even iPhone handle better.
    15) You use right or left swiping to view another day and the same method to view another week, in that view... But you must swipe up and down in month view and that's just dumb!!
    16) Some part of the ultra smart "Synergy" integration give you also trouble, because if you include your Facebook account will everyone you "know" there (you can't just select a few) be saved as contacts and that may result in ton's of contacts, you don't want in your smartphone - but it will probably come some extra program that "filter" that later and the other new "Synergy" contacts functionality, work like magic.
    17) Then does copy & paste not work in IM or SMS messages, but that should be very easy to fix... ** But copy & paste (of text) work now in both emails and web pages, plus many many other places!
    18) You can't change how many "message lines" you can see in the email preview.
    19) Pre work normally very fast, but there is a delay when you open new programs and no "hourglass" so you might sometimes wonder if something happen, the first times you open a heavy program... But I don't know if that really need a fix or just some getting use to?!
    20) Then might the ring signal be too quiet, but only according to 1 of 9 reviewers and another one say it's loud enough... And the alarm clock use now the ringtone volume, so it should be fine... Even if the alarm clock naturally have a separate volume!!
This replace naturally my old version, that I did post here over one year ago!

One alternative to the Tasks application is Outline Tracker which has knobs to open items with content text, and multiple projects, which should fill your need for multiple to-do lists.   It does not currently have priorities, though.

  • Palm Treo calendar has stopped syncing with iCal

I have a Palm Treo 650 and an Intel iMac runing OS X 10.4.11. I've had both for a few years, and I've always been able to sync them with no problems using the iSync conduit when doing a Hot Sync from the Palm. But suddenly I'm finding that, while it appears to be syncing fine and doesn't display any error messages, iCal is not being updated with new events from the Palm calendar.
Tonight is the first time I've encountered this, but it's also the the first time I've been able to sync at all in a while, because for the last few weeks, every time I've tried, I've gotten an error due to having too much data on the Palm - which is a catch-22 in that I didn't want to delete anything without being able to do a backup, but couldn't do a backup without deleting things first. But finally I took the plunge tonight and deleted a bunch of things. And it seemed like it synced OK - except that no new events turned up in iCal.
I've tried several times, and I've checked my settings in both iSync and the HotSync Manager to make sure they were OK. I read through some support articles on here (although most of them seemed to deal only with 10.5 and 10.6) and tried re-enabling Palm syncing in iCal, resetting my sync history, and quitting iCal, clearing the cache folders, and restarting it, but still no go.
The little mini-report you see at the end of a HotSync always says the iSync conduit ran OK, but if I look in the log itself, I see this:
iSync Conduit: received NULL message, disconnecting... 1/22/10 4:43:48 AM
    OK iSync Conduit
So it seems like it is encountering some sort of problem with iSync, but is then reporting it OK anyway? The iSync log doesn't show any errors at all. Another odd thing I noticed is that if I have iSync open while I'm hot syncing, iSync seems to be finished while Hot Sync is still working on the Datebook, even though theoretically it should be iSync that's handling that.
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on here? Or anything else I might try in the way of troubleshooting?

    Ah, I see.
There are many thing which can cause the null issue to arise. Chief among them is a lack of available storage space on your Palm device itself. Typically this can only be corrected by overwriting the contents of your organizer by initiating a first time synchronization and selecting that option, following a reset of the synchronization framework on your Macintosh.
Eek - I have a fair bit of stuff on there I don't want to lose, since I usually use the Treo for taking notes at business meetings and that sort of thing. Maybe I can find a way of getting my notes out by copying into notes fields in the address book... (I haven't been able to get Memos to sync since I stopped using Entourage, and Documents have never synced, so I'm kind of used to kludgy workarounds for getting at those.)
It makes sense that the lack of space would be an issue, since this really only started when the Treo got too full, and while I've been able to delete enough stuff to at least enable to HotSync in theory, obviously it wasn't enough for it to sync everything properly.
You mentioned two machines - are you synchronizing your Palm device with BOTH, or with just one of these platforms? The synchronization to multiple platforms may also result in the sort of issue that you are seeing.
Two machines? I don't think I said anything like that... Maybe the way I described the multiple conduits folders was confusing? They're all on the same machine, just that one's in the main Library and one's in the Library in my user folder. The only machine I sync it to is my iMac.
I've been going through and deleting what files I feel like I can safely delete, in order to free up some space in hopes that that will help, but on the whole, I am starting to suspect that the long-range solution to this whole problem might be getting an iPhone instead. :-/
