New vs old apple TV as music server

I'm currently using an Apple TV as our music server, though because it runs hot and sits in our cabinet, I have to reset it all the time. I'm intrigued by the new Apple TV, but also know that it only does streaming music as it doesn't have an HDD.
For the new Apple TV:
1. Would I need to keep my computer on all the time if I wanted to use the Apple TV and stream music?
2. Is there a way to attach a dedicated hard drive to the Apple TV either directly or through our home network so that I could listen to music without needing to have our computer on?
One of the best things about the old Apple TV was music that was on the Apple TV itself, but of course, it meant it ran hot and would need to be reset a lot.
Any recommendations?

I assume so.
2. Is there a way to attach a dedicated hard drive to the Apple TV
I assume not.
However since no-one has one yet I could be proved wrong.

  • Can i merge my old apple id's music to my current one to have my old music?

Over the years i have had several apple id's that I have purchased music on and i was wondering if there is a way to merge the id's together so i can hall all of my music?  when i try to sign in to my old id on my iphone 5 i get a message saying "my phone is associated with another apple id, you cannot auto-download or download past purchases with a different apple id for 90 days." should I do this?

Based on the question:  If you have to download past purchases, you would need to log in to the specific account, download the content, then wait 90 days to access the next process.  If you have 3 different computers, you could log into one ID on each, then (possibly) homeshare to get them onto one device.  The ultimate goal would be to get all the content onto a single desktop computer (or laptop).  then you can sync the content to the desired iOS devices (or just play the content on the computers).

  • New iToy, old Apple ID

We bought the kid an ipod touch for Christmas.  Wife has an ipad and iphone 4 with her apple id and I have a 4S with my apple ID (big mistake, I know).  I want the kid to use mom's apple id since that's the one tied to the ipad and the kid gets ipad apps on it.  Please help me make sure I do the right thing concerning IDs, itunes, etc.
    1. Create an icloud email acct for the kid under moms apple ID (I'm guessing it would help w/ iMessage??)
    2. Set up the allowance feature for the kid so she can purchase music/apps without pinging my CC acct
    3. Set up Find My Friends

While I've not done it, it looks to me that in order for your wife to purchase store credits to give to someone else, her account will have to have a valid credit card associated with it.  That means anyone with that AppleID and password can purchase to their hearts content, as it will be charged to the credit card on file with the account.
Fromt he link I posted before:
Before you set up an iTunes Allowance
Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your computer. To download the latest version (it's free!), visit the Download iTunes webpage.
You must have your own iTunes Store account with an accepted credit card on file. If you don't already have an iTunes Store account, open iTunes and create a new account.
If your recipient has an iTunes Store account, you will need to know his or her account name, also known as an Apple ID. The iTunes Store account name must be in the form of an email address. If your recipient doesn't have an account, have his or her email address handy.    Important: If your recipient already has an iTunes account, it's important that you use it when setting up an allowance. Otherwise, it will be difficult for your recipient to manage his or her purchased music.
You want the kid to have an AppleID account with NO credit card information associated with it, and the only credits it gets are the store credits your wife purchases and assigns to it.
Also, your iMessage account is primarily tied to an AppleID account - you must use an AppleID to activate iMessage in the first place, then you may assign alternate emails to receive messages at.  Since the AppleID is the primaty account (anything else is really nothing more than an alias to that), all iMessage traffic will always go to the AppleID's primary registered email address.

  • Self life of Li-Ion battery on new but old Apple laptop stock?

Just bought a MBP MD101LL/A. It is brand new. Because it is a 2012 model, I am concerned about the Li-Ion date of manufacture. If the DOM was 2 years ago will apple replace it? Li-Ion is reported of having a service / self life of based on age and not just cycles (Professor Jeff Dahn of Dalhousie University). Depending on how the battery is stored the self life could be as low as 1 to 2 years.

"I am concerned about the Li-Ion date of manufacture. If the DOM was 2 years ago will apple replace it"
Yes this would be a problem. You should talk to the manager of the Apple store where you purchased the MBP and ask him to address your concern.

  • How to disable iMessage for an old Apple ID which is only used for AppStore?

How to disable iMessage for an old Apple ID which is only used for AppStore?
I used my old Apple ID for iMessage and AppStore Apps. Now I'm using my iCloud Account (second Apple ID) on my Mac as iCloud and iMessage Account.
New Apple ID - iCloud & iMessage (**** thing that I can't use my okd Apple ID for iMessage and another for iCloud) on new Mac
Old Apple ID - AppStore, iMessage days ago
So now how to disable the iMessage function for my old Apple ID which isn't used anymore?
    Thank you!

Yeah the problem is that I want to be reachable by:
    *new apple id
    *mobile number
    Earlier:
    *old apple id
    *mobile number
Problem - if I set in Settings => Messages => Receive at:
    *new apple id
    *mobile number
Others still can see my old apple id as "iMessage" although it isn't used a iMessage anymore. So how to disbale iMessage function for that?

When i try to de authorize the G4 and sign in with her new apple ID it says bad password, how can i release the G4 from my cluster of authorized apples and make her the owner so she can download music and more importantly sync her music with her phone, she only has 3 songs on her iphone, and loaded all her CD's into the g4 but cant sync, im no dummy and this shouldnt be hard, but its driving me crazy!!!!!!
thx u so much for your time heeeellppppp.

Perhaps, as we have the same music tastes, for now i should just authorize her phone to my power book just to sync music, not pics, contacts etc? I'd hate to overright her contacts etc lol????

  • I really dont know how to explain this but here it goes. Idk how this happend but i want to somehow get my music from my ipad onto my new computers itunes. The problem is that my ipad is authorized on a broken pc which is authorized with an old apple id.

    Hi
Alright im not quite  sure  how this happend but here it goes. I am trying to sync all the content from my ipad to and new computer. But i get a message that my ipad is authrorized on another computer. But the problem is that my old computer is broken. I also think that the old computer was authorized with my ipad from my old apple id which i do not know the username or password. So how will i be able to authorize my ipad on my new computer?

Wow my luck. Unfortunally my backup file is corrupt :/. i was thinking is it possible to put my music on my computer via copytrans or other software then transfer my purchases on my ipad like apps. Then restore my ipad so that the other authorization is gone then transfer my music to itunes then register my ipad to my new computer then sync? I could also put my music on disc or something else instead of a transfer software if that would work.

  • I recently bought a macbook pro and i made a new apple id. my last macbook had a different id as well and i was wondering if there's a way of transferring all my music from the other laptop to the new one without having to use my old apple id?

i recently bought a macbook pro and i made a new apple id. my last macbook had a different id as well and i was wondering if there's a way of transferring all my music from the other laptop to the new one without having to use my old apple id? if it makes any type of difference i have an iphone 5 so i tried transfering the music but it only transfered certain things and not my entire album.

Making a new Apple ID was the worst thing you could of done. This is very bad to do. Not sure why people do that. Your Apple ID is Your Apple ID. You only need one and it is best to only have one Apple ID for all apple devices.
Sorry I don't have any suggestions for you.

  • HT5621 Moving Music from old apple ID/email to new Apple ID/email??

I had an old Apple ID with an old email address where I had some music stored.  Since then I purchased an IPhone and created a new email address which is my Apple ID.  I would like to move all of the music I had on the original email/apple to the new one.  When I have tried to make the changes, it says that the email account is already being used.  Is there a way to move the music I had stored in my old account to my new account?  I am pretty computer illiterate so detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated.

You cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another.

  • Cannot play music purchased under old apple id after new hard drive installed

Replaced crashed HD and used Time Machine to restore to 10.7.5. Had changed my Apple ID a while backe (couple months). Now music purchased with old ID will not play, asking me to authorize under old ID, have no idea what the password was and the email address is no longer valid, so...how do I rgain access to those albums purchased under old ID? It plays on my iphone fine.

You may still be able to reset the password to your old Apple ID via iforgot.apple.com.
The old tracks will continue to play on the iPhone as long as they are on it but you may find they get deleted if you try to sync with your library while it isn't authorized for your old ID.
