NForce2 and AthlonXP

i was wanting to know if the K7N2-L would support the AthlonXP 2600+ with a 333MHz bus. thanks in advance.

Has anyone actually tried a real 3000+?
Seems like there might be some problem, since the X13 multiplier cannot be manually set correctly, and 12.5 is the largest working multiplier available.
This would make overclocking 2800+ and 3000+ pretty difficult.

  • Nforce2 and IDE driver bluescreen

    I have a K7n2g Nforce2-ISLR board and when I run the latest system driver update it blue screens on the IDE driver update.  To confirm this I installed each driver one by one until I found the one causing the blue screen.
    System config is a follows
    1GB RAM
    Radeon 800 pro 256MB
    Onboard Audio w/realtek drivers
    SATA Drives
    TDK DVD writer
    Floppy
    Maxtor USB external 250GB Drive

    i dont recommend the ide drivers.
    they fail for alot of people including me so its better to stick to microsoft drivers.
    get the unified driver package from http://www.nvidia.com instead.
    dont flash bios in windows with live update.
    seen alot of badflash when doing that.

  • Nforce2 and 8x agp

    how do you get 8x agp to work its enabled in bios i have palitdaytona geforce4 440 mx 64 ddr 8x agp card
    but sis sandra says im at 4x

    I found this in the Multimedia forum....
    Quote
    This is because most bench marks and system utility softwares can only recognize and utilize up to 4X AGP support VGA cards. until there is a fix from Bench Mark and software manufacturers, this problem remains.
    I'm not sure if Sandra knows about 8x yet, take a look in the video cards settings tab under settings and advanced,(your card), it should at least show up as 8x under adapter information.

    We believe that this will be the best performer in the neighborhood for a while and that’s why AMD was using pre-production Nforce 2 boards from Asus to show the power of their new FSB 333 processors.
    We think that Nvidia learned a lot from the original Nforce and that the same mistakes will not be repeated and that the stability of Nforce 2 will be on higher level than original Nforce with of course, more mature drivers.
    Motherboards should be available in middle October at the earliest.

This is what I got from PC Wizard as far as whats in the Server. I did notice the Initial Frequencies are correct for the 2000+.

    Howdy! I'm unable to reach MSI's page for mobos right now, but I think this is an AMD board. Twin processors even? You might have better luck in that forum.
    I don't understand all the specs you so splendidly provide. It seems as if the board is 200 MHz and the CPU 133 MHz. Could be a divider thing.
    Normally when these things occur, it is a seating problem. CPU runs too hot, or is seated wrong way around.
    PS There are so many interested in PSUs in this forum so I'll add yours' specs too.  DS

  • I have MSI motherboard and MSI GE2Ti 64MB and can\'t get over 30 fps

    I am addicted to playing CS, I used to have a PIII 866 motherboard that crashed.  I bought a MSI motherboard with a Celeron 1.7 and I have a MSI Ge2Ti 64MB DDR video card.  I used to have over 70 fps when playing in the old days, however with this new motherboard I cant get over 30 fps.  I thought that my video card was the culprit and I bought a new ATI Radeon 9000 with 128 MB DDR.  After installing it, I still have less than 30 fps  ?(   ;(
    Before I purchased the Radeon, I tried tweaking the videocard with the rivatuner, but I had no great success.
    The motherboard has a built-in video, can it be conflicting with the AGP card?
    My motherboard is a MS-6524 and my video card is a MSI Ge2-Ti model 8855
    Any help is appreciated!

    Running a P4 (or celeron4) with SDR memory results in very poor preformance, it's basicly ment for office/internet use.
    That I would expect is a big part of the slowness, in fact a celeron 1.7 with SDR could very well be slower than the PIII 866 in many aspects.
    Remember the P4 1.5 wuth RDRAM using the i850 chipset was barely any faster than the PIII 1.0GHz at the time it was released!
    It might be a little late now, but if you need to keep your RAM the only CPUs today that could get something out of SDR are the AthlonXP's and PIII/Celeron socket370.
    And AthlonXP 1800+ costs about the same as the celeron 1700 you have and a basic board with SiS735 or VIA KT133A chipset will cost about the same.

  • Nforce2 sound issues +others

    Hi,
    Just installed Arch my desktop and I'm getting some grey hair now.
    Whatever I do, I can't seem to configure my sounds to work properly.
    Sounds DO work though, just not perfectly.
    I'm using Nforce2 soundstorm onboard chip with _SPDIFF_ and i'm beginning to feel that its more of a hardware than software problem, so heres the problem:
    Can't get mpd to work with mplayer simultaneously, also tremulous wont make a sound and volumecontrol is kinda flaky... So any1 got nforce2 and spdiff to work with dmix and volumecontrol and games?
    Heres my asound.conf
    #/etc/asound.conf start:
    pcm.!default {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "softvol" #make use of softvol
    pcm.dsp0 {
    type plug
    slave.pcm "dmixer"
    pcm.softvol {
    type softvol
    slave {
    pcm "dmixer" #redirect the output to dmix (instead of "hw:0,0")
    control {
    name "PCM" #override the PCM slider to set the softvol volume level globally
    card 0
    pcm.dmixer {
    type dmix
    ipc_key 1024
    ipc_key_add_uid false # let multiple users share
    ipc_perm 0660 # IPC permissions (octal, default 0600)
    slave {
    pcm "hw:0,2"
    period_time 0
    period_size 1024
    buffer_size 8192
    rate 48000
    bindings {

    ctl.dmixer {
    type hw

    Then a question how do I change edev mx1000 configured buttons on apps? like logitech drivers in windows?
    ie using scrollbutton for back--forth is kinda not what i want also how to map midbutton to that mx1000 side button?
    Also im using opensource ati to get aiglx to work and games have graphic anomalies and crash alot, is that normal? Can it be fixed?
    Hmmm I think that was all... So user experiences / configs wanted

    Question1 Semi--Pending:
    Well, ... lotsa nfroce2 users then... ^^
    Maybe I wasn't that clear: With that config everything works just not some games (tremulous) and mpd cant play sound same time as mplayer for instance. So is my config wrong? Any1 using any nforce chipset with digital out, please post your config...
    Solved question2:
    Mouse working just great thanks to GentooWiki <3 , needed xmodmap line and xkeys and keyboardemulator for button tweaking. Here for further reference: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Advanced_M … ech_MX1000
    Question3:
    Guess the opensource drivers are just crappy, atleast they are slower. Well now the question is: aiglx vs official driver, benefits vs piece of mind vs performance considerations. Kinda siding to drop beryl and just official driver from now on.

  • Audigy Platinum EX making crackling/popping sou

    Whenever I'm pressing a key on the keyboard (qwerty keyboard, not midi keyboard) and a sound plays, it makes a very loud and annoying crackling/popping/static sound. It does this primarily in games, but it can also do it Windows. I've been dealing with this for close to a year and I am fed up with it. If I cannot get these issues resolved, I will never buy another Creative product again. I would greatly appreciate any help to fix this problem.

  • K7N2 Delta, upgrade to Win XP, no sound

    I have a K7N2 Delta with Nvidia Nforce2 and onboard 5.1 sound, Athlon XP 1.25Ghz
    I upgraded from Win98se to Win XP Pro yesterday.  I have the full install version ("for Win95 or earlier or PCs without windows") but it allowed me to install as an upgrade.  It warned me that there would be a problem with the sound... and now that I've upgraded, I don't seem to have any sound installed at all.
    One of the things that I've tried is to download the latest audio package from Nvidia's web site at http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_audio_4.57_win2kxp
    When I click to Open this program, Win XP wants to open it with Win Media Player (I have no idea why).  When I instruct the computer to unzip it using an actual zip utility, I end up with a folder with a bunch of files, including two uninstaller programs, but no installer program or any explanation of what I'm supposed to do next.  When I try to install a new program from the control menu and direct it to this folder, Win XP itself is confused because it can't find an installer program.
    I'm not entirely sure that this will solve my problem in any case, but their drivers were reccomended by someone on the City of Heroes boards who had a similar-sounding problem.     When I look at sound in the control panel it appears that nothing is installed, so I assume that installing the right drivers would solve my problem.  Only I can't seem to get there from here...

    Hi,
    Jacoband: You may like to start your own thread with this question!
    You might also like to inform us of what hardware you are using - it would be interesting to know which motherboard you have as you haven't mentioned it!
    You need to make a list of all your hardware and then repost.
    Btw, I'm guessing here but to answer your question I'm pretty sure the answer is no! The jumper position only allows for use of front or back....not both!
    But as I say as I don't know what you're using so I can't be sure!

  • Stop Errors in Windows XP with K7N2-ILSR....need help!

    Hello,
    i recently received  a replacement for a K2N2-ILSR mobo and i am still having BIG problems with it. With the first mobo, installation of Windows XP w/SP1 simply would not complete. The installation kept crashing and STOP ERRORS like 0x8E, 0x0A would appear and random points of the process (i tried to install them more than 20 times). The CPU was an XP 1800+ and memory was 2 DDR400 sticks of not so good quality (cheapest i could find...at that point i did not know that the mobo was so picky with memory). The Graphics card is a FX5200. PSU was 350W. When i checked the system BIOS i show a CPU temperature reading of 85 degrees! Of course, the CPU was nowhere around 45 at that moment (which i verified by testing it on another mobo). I suspected that the motherboard was faulty and returned it. In the meantime, i figured out about these issues with Nforce2 and memory, so i decided to upgrade everything. I bought a Barton XP 2500+, 2 Crucial DDR400 256MB sticks and a new Enermax 450W PSU. I tried them on the new mobo, but guess what...XP w/SP1 still did not install! I finally tried to install XP w/out SP1 and everything worked fine! Or so i thought so....after 3 weeks of working with it i STILL get STOP errors, mainly 0x0A and 0x8E.
    Could anybody PLEASE help me?
    Thank you very much,
    flash

    Is it a Deskstar if so IBM have issued a firmware upgrade for those drives Here to stop them doing the funcky chicken.

  • Can't clock 6800GT with success

    Problem I have is that when I up the clock on my GT, even just a fraction on mem and core I get occasional(often)freezes and sometimes the desktop is garbled.
    It's done this on my Nforce2 and now on the N3, basicly on completely different rigs, It runs sweet as on the default clock speeds(21700 3dmarks on 01 all stock)
    Would really like to overclock it, I'm taking into consideration that I haven't had a format for quite a time now and never clean up after my self so could be software related, USING the 71.22 from msi and have used live update for every driver pack on this format, don't want to format and find it's still a prob thou.
    Could be that there isn't enough Thermal paste on the GPU or is it a pad.
    May try coolbits, guess I'll need a driver cleaner and the latest reference drivers
    Never really overclocked the card hardly as this has been a persistent problem from day one but at stock no problem.
    Anyone got any Ideas as what what might be at fault
    Please god, I Just want to overclock it.

    Hi,
    By any chance, did you overclock 2D timings, instead of 3D timings?
    Desktop garbling should not be happening regardless of how high you push your 3D clock, coz it's purely 2D.  This happened to me when I first started out ocing my (stunted, see thread) 6800GT.  I thought I had to synch 2D and 3D timings, so I move the slider on the 2D clock and oops!
    Pick up a 6800 overlock guide, use Rivatuner and try again.

  • How to reduce from 5º to 8ºC CPU Temp on your MSI K7N2 Delta!

    I've installed this tweak last week and it is working very stable since then. It decreased my Idle CPU Temp from 42º to 36º and Overload from 54º to 48º:
    Just go: http://forums.pcper.com/showindex.php?t=280137
    AMD ATHLON XP 2600+ 12.5x333mhz 1.65V ~OC 11.5x400mhz 1.55V
    Thermaltake Volcano 9
    MSI K7N2 Delta L
    MSI GF4 4200-8X graphics Card
    160GB Maxtor HDD 7200rpm
    768MB Samsung DDR3200
    LG 48x24x48x/16x CDROM/DVD Reader
    Dual Fan 450W Troni Power Suppy

    It seems that the link to the tweak is broken, I've found another one:
    http://ftp://ftp.vector.co.jp/pack/win95/hardware/other/wpcre14.exe
    This is what the article say:
    Just tried it for the first time..It works GREAT
    My idle temps are now 26c, down from 34c. That's 8C. I can have Winamp, IE and messenger running and CPU temps don't get by 29c.  Once i fire up, SETI though...I get back my regular Load temps at 39c.
    Some of you probably know about it, already....here's for thousand others that don't.
    This tweak can drop your idle CPU temps down as much as 8c, maybe more...depending on your system.
    First thing you need to do is download WPCRSET & WPCREDIT.
    They're both in this zip.
    - Extract to a directory.
    - Run "INSTDD.EXE". Click Install. When done, you will be prompted for restart. Hit Yes! -
    - Then go back to the folder with extracted files, and open "WPCREDIT.EXE"
    - A ms-dos like window will pop-up. Move the blinking block (with arrow keys or your mouse pointer) until it says Offset 6F at the buttom. Now, click on the two digit number where it says "HEX", and change it to 1F (The Hex for Offset 6F would have previously been 9F, 8F or something else). Hit Set.
    Your idle temps should now start falling.
    You would have to do this hack/tweak everytime you rebooted your computer if it wasn't for WPCRSET.
    - Go to directory and run "WPCRSET.EXE"
    - Look at the top of the window: Enable select "Start" and make sure Device is on "enable"
    - Then click Add. Enter 6F for the register, and 1F for the data
    - Click Ok and you'll be prompted to restart.
    Once, you rebooted, open WCREDIT again and see if the 6F register is still on 1F. If it is, then that's it..You're all done.
    Here's a Screenie of how it should be:
    This only brings your idle temps down, and not your full load temps
    It should work for all nforce2s, and use at your own risk
    Check your nf7-s for CPU Disconnect. Most other nforce2 motherboards do not have this feature in the bios...so this tweak might prove useful.
    READ THE WHOLE THREAD BEFORE TRYING THIS!
    If you run a Distributed Computing project...then obviously this would be of no use to you

    It activates the C1 (and maybe the C2) function Athlon XP CPU's support. Most mainboard brands have this feature as an option in the bios you can enable and disable. I just found out that EPoX doesn't have that feature. So what you're doing is just using a direct reg tweak to activate it. It's not like you're forcing anything, the Athlon XP chips are made to support this feature so it shouldn't do any damage.
    When the CPU is idle the mainboard will send a command to the CPU that will cause a part of the CPU to be deactivated (and therefore not produce any heat). That's why this tweak only works on the idle temp and doesn't change anything on the load temp. Ofcourse as soon as the CPU power is needed the deactivated part will become active again, so it should have any influence on the performance of the CPU.
    Strangely, my full load temp has decreased 6º C degrees too.

    WHAT IS WHQL?
    Short for Windows Hardware Quality Labs, a Microsoft facility that tests and certifies third-party hardware and driver products for compatibility with Windows operating systems. Products that meet the compatibility requirements are then allowed to display Windows logos on product packaging, advertising and collateral and other marketing materials, indicating that the product has met the standards of Microsoft and that the product has been designed to work with the Windows operating systems.
    Once a product has received the WHQL logo it is listed on the Microsoft Hardware Compatibility List.
