NI-DAQ Administrator rights problem

I've got a VB6 program using a PCI-6024E board with Ni-DAQ 7.2 under Windows 2000
The program works fine when I log in as Administrator, but when I log in under a user account I get a "Runtime Error 10459 Configuring Channels. The NI-DAQ DLL could not be called due to an interface error."
I also cannot run the NI-DAQ test panels under the user account.
I can't install the NI-DAQ driver under the user account as it's needs admin rights!
Anyone know how to allow an application to run under a user account?
Obviously I don't want the operators to log in as administrator.
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave,
There are a couple of forum postings dealing with this same issue.
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=170&message.id=91569&requireLogin=False
http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=250&message.id=6564&requireLogin=False
Both seem to provide the following steps as a possible solution.
"Complete the following steps to set up permission for the MAX\Data directory:
1) Browse to the C:\Program Files\National Instruments directory.
2) Right-click the MAX folder and select Properties.
3) Click the Security tab, and click the Add button. Type in the user name and click OK.
4) Give the user Read & Execute, List Folder Contents, and Read permissions.
5) Click Apply and then OK."
That should resolve any DAQ problems you're having with user accounts. Please let me know if you have any more problems with this.

  • How can I avoid the need for Administrator rights for open registry key.vi

    Dear wire workers.
I would like to do an EXCEL export.
Therefore I like to check if EXCEL is installed or not.
I use 'open registry key.vi' and read out the Excel\InstallRoot.
If there is an installed EXCEL than I export the data using ActiveX.
Everything works like a charm with LV 8.5.
The problem I have is that 'open registry key.vi' useses RegOpenKeyExA from the Advapi32.dll.
RegOpenKeyEx does, in fact, create a non-existing key and returns 0 (ERROR_SUCCESS?).
    LONG lRegResult = RegOpenKeyEx(HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, m_RegSubKey, 0, KEY_QUERY_VALUE + KEY_WRITE, &hkRegistry);
Successfully opens or creates m_RegSubKey under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
Is there a way aroun this call?
In fact you need administrator rights to do this call because of the try to write a non exsisting key.
In my case this avoids the EXCEL export and any kind of registry access from LabVIEW without administrator rights.
:-) Who the hell has done this ;-)
    All ideas are welcome
    With kind regards

    Hi Martin
Did you try to wire a "KEY_READ" constant to the security access mask input of the open registry key VI? I had a similar problem, if you just need to read a key or check if it's present use read access only, that should work.
    Hope this helps,

  • Administrator password problems

I haven't used my computer for a couple months and never wrote down my password for the only account on my computer. I can't seem to find a disc to restore it anywhere and pressing f11 will not work. I really need this problem fixed asap so i can use my laptop for school. PLEASE HELP!!!!

    Hi,
If the file system appears to be corrupt, you're probably better off reinstalling Vista again.
If you have files on the notebook you need to back-up first, try the following.
One possible way to try and retrieve your files from a non-booting notebook is to follow the process detailed in the link below.  The Ubuntu operating system CD you create can run from the CD alone ( ie it doesn't have to install on the Hard Drive ).  When you've created the CD, follow the instructions and see if you can back up your existing files if needed.
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/use-ubuntu-live-cd-to-backup-files-from-your-dead-windo...
Regarding reinstalling Vista, there are 2 main options if the Recovery Partition isn't working and you don't have your discs.
    1.  You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs using the link below.
    Order HP Recovery Discs.
If you have any problem with this link, order them directly from HP.
If you live in the US, contact HP Here.
If you are in another part of the world, start Here.
    2.  In the same way that it's possible to create a Windows 7 retail disc, use this to perform the installation and then use the OEM windows 7 activation key from the COA label, the same process is possible if your notebook came with Vista.
Before trying the following, you must make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
A full description ( including links to the Vista Image downloads ) of this can be found on the following link.

Just got my Toshiba laptop mdl.l655d-s5151. Got a bios update from 1.7 to 2.0 when I installed it I was told to shut down the computer and then reboot it. I did as instructed and pressed F2 when I saw the Toshiba logo to enter the boot utility. All I got was a request for a password that I didn't install. Does anyone know how to change that password Help Me Please.

Same message if i double-clic on explorer.exe in c:\windows folder. I can browse my computer by using the "my computer" in start menu.
When i launch internet explorer, it crash immediately, the window is closed.
If i launch the disk management console, i have a message : You do not have access right to Logical Manager
I have tryed to install the update KB2444677 and it fails with an access denied error.
UAC have always been disable but now i cannot launch c:\Windows\system32\UserAccountControlSettings.exe. When i double clic on the icon nothing happens.

    Hi Tracy,
Have you changed something on your SharePoint 2007 environment recently before this issue occurred?
This issue may be related to Alternate Access Mappings settings like the following similar post, if you have configured AAM, you can check if this issue happened to some URLs, if it's the case, please add the problematic URLs as a Publish URLs for the default
zone for your web application, and also add these URLs as trusted locations, then check results again.
If above doesn't work, please enable ULS log on verbose level to get more useful log errors which time are corresponding to the errors occur.

  • Accounts being created with administrative group rights

    Hello,
The server is a Windows 2003 R2 Enterprise fully patched used for Shared Hosting purposes.  It runs Hsphere control panel.  I am trying to identify how the following hack is happening.
    1) There are users being created with Administrative group rights.   Below is the EventViewer log for the user creation:
    User Account Created:
         New Account Name:    username
         New Domain:    PCNAME
         New Account ID:    PCNAME\username
         Caller User Name:    PCNAME$
         Caller Domain:    DOMAINNAME
         Caller Logon ID:    (0x0,0x3E7)
         Privileges        -
     Attributes:
         Sam Account Name:    username
         Display Name:    <value not set>
         User Principal Name:    -
         Home Directory:    <value not set>
         Home Drive:    <value not set>
         Script Path:    <value not set>
         Profile Path:    <value not set>

         Password Last Set:    <never>
         Account Expires:    <never>
         Primary Group ID:    513
         AllowedToDelegateTo:    -
         Old UAC Value:    0x2DAB2B0
         New UAC Value:    0x2DAB2B0
         User Account Control:    -
         User Parameters:    <value not set>
         Sid History:    -
Logon Hours:    <value changed, but not displayed>
There exists entries as well where the primary group ID is changed to the Administrative group, but I am omitting such.
    2) I tried to identify what Caller Logon ID:    (0x0,0x3E7) means.  I found out from here:
http://blog.joeware.net/2013/01/14/2667/ that I can use LogonSessions.exe to identify it.
Output from LogonSessions.exe is pasted below (snippet):

    3) I also learned from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243330/en-us that   Sid:          S-1-5-18 means:
    SID: S-1-5-18
    Name: Local System
Description: A service account that is used by the operating system
That is all great info, but I am not sure I can put together what I have learned to attempt and get closer towards identifying how in the world users are being created and then being assigned administrative group rights.
I am a Linux person mostly, but I am comfortable following a properly explained thread regarding windows 2003 R2 Enterprise issues.
The server is fully patched and it is running Lumension security product.  What's more, Norman Malware tracker, tdskiller.exe (Kaspersky) and McAfee rootkitremover.exe have been run without any apparent Malware/Virus infection
Hope someone with advanced admin skills can advise.
    Thank you

    Hi,
You mentioned that, “I am trying to identify how the following hack is happening”, would you please tell us that why did you think the event represent a hacking behavior?
In a Shared Server Hosting environment, the underlying hosting control panel tool (Hsphere in this case) should be creating only virtual FTP users with a specific group.  So no users with Administrative group should be ever created.  If this happens,
it constitutes a breach of server security=positive hacking attempt.
    >how in the world users are being created and then being assigned administrative group rights.
In addition, would you please be more specific about this question? Did you find the event message on a domain joined machine?
I want to be able to understand in full how/what process is allowing users to be created with Admin rights.  In other words, I want to know what IP was used to issue the command, if ASP.net was used (abused in this case), or anything else related to
it so that we can patch this particular hole.
    Best Regards,
    Amy

  • MSI Group Policy install failing because of administrator rights problem

I have succesfully installed the desktop manager software 4.6 on my PC using the MSI from the CD. I am a domain administrator, when I try to install the same MSI on other users in the domain through group policy who are not administrators the software will not install. I have checked and the policy is definately being applied and it says on logon that the Blackberry Desktop Manager software is being installed but no icon or program group is created.
I don't want to give users administrator rights as the users are not allowed to install software on their PC. Normally software installs through group policy without a problem. I don't want to have to go around to each PC and install manually if I can avoid it.
Any help would be most appreciated.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Someone else would really need to answer this, but i have my own simple solution we use here.
Create a share file eg //138.218.137.22 etc etc for the user to go to. In here save a copy of the desktop manager. Get them to click and drag it to their desktop and install the file from there. (do not install the file directly from the shared drive)
Is the cd version won't work, get the install.exe from the blackberry site..
If your issue is resolved, put a checkmark in the green box that contains the resolution.
    OR
If it was just/or also really helpful - Give it a Kudos.. Go on Mate.. Help the rest of the clueless blackberry user world find their answer too..

  • DIAdem 9.1; Windows2000; right problem; "Configuration-Drive Write Protected" for USER

    Hallo community !
    similar to these threads
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=60&message.id=322&requireLogin=False
    http://forums.ni.com/ni/board/message?board.id=60&message.id=647&requireLogin=False
i run into problems working with DIAdem 9.1 on Windows 2000 SP4!
The Diadem installation went quite well.
    My problem:
only "Administrator" and "Power User" have the privilige to "WRITE" to the DIAdem install directory.
Trying to start Diadem as non priviliged USER I get something like:
    DIAdem Configuration-Drive "C:\PROGRAM FILES\ NATIONAL INSTRUMENT\DIADEM 9.10" WRITE PROTECTED!
I installed & started DIAdem for one
time with Administrator rights. I activated the Product and exported
the KEY to a License Server. Everything works fine for Power Users an
Administrators. Only "simple" USERs are not able to start Diadem due to
missing WRITE permissions.  i can't grand this permissions to
    normal USERs :-(
Playing around in Registry -> "RegWriteAccessAllow" ("0","1") (DWORD) (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/National Instruments/Diadem/9.10),
    didn't solved the problem.
I switched back to "local License" Managment (local Key files) but the Probelm persists.
    thanks in advance
    P.S.
Quote: "You have to be at least a "Power User" in Windows 2000 to run DIAdem in Windows 2000."

Message Edited by DirkT on 08-01-2005 04:02 PM

    Hi DirkT,
Running DIAdem with User rights has different aspects we need to look at.
    1) Registry Write Access
Launching DIAdem the first time with administrative rights registers some OLE components in the registry. After this step no more Admin rights are necessary for the registry. However running DIAdem as user might result in error messages as DIAdem tries to re-register the components again. You can avoid this by setting the RegWriteAccessAllow Key to 0 (see online help under "Administrator Notes")
    2) File / Folder Write Access to the DIAdem Installation Folder
DIAdem needs write access to certain files e.g. the error logfile DEM_ERRS.001 or DESKTOP.DDD when saving configurations. You may change the folder where these file are being stored and searched for to a writeable folder by launching DIAdem with the "/d<NewFolder\MyDesktop.ddd>" start parameter or by setting the environment variable "DemDDD" to that folder. Then move the following files from the DIAdem installation folder to your new writeable folder:
    *.ddd
    userpar.par
    dem_errs.*
    3) File / Folder Write Access to other Folders
There are a number of other folders that DIAdem 9.x needs write access to and which cannot be changed. All of these folders are located by default under "%ProgramFiles%\National Instruments\Shared". Currently you need your Admin to give you write access to that folder and below
For future versions of DIAdem the team is working to make running under user rights easier.
    Hope that helps,
    Marcus

  • Can't get Administrator Privileges/Rights for Local Account in Administrators Group

I'm using a Custom Command Shell, and for now just booting to cmd.exe. I've done the following:
    1) Added a LocalAccount under UserAccounts/LocalAccounts (pass 7) with Name, DisplayName, Password, Group
    2) Entered "Administrators" as the LocalAccount/Group (yes, it's definitely spelled correctly.)
    3) Set AutoLogon/Username to the Username created in Step 1, Enabled, LogonCount 9999, Password as per Step 1
    4) Added the "Application Security" package and set EnableLUA=False.
The system boots after install, and it successfully logs in automatically to the command prompt. However, the user DOES NOT have Administrator privileges. For example, when trying to run Regsvr32 from the command prompt, I receive the following error message:
"dllregisterserver failed with error code 0x8002801c," which indicates some sort of privilege/rights issue.
At the command prompt, when I type Net User LocalUserWhoShouldBeAdmin, I get the following:
        Local Group Memberships
        Global Group Memberships   *None
Whereas when I type Net User Administrator, I get:
        Local Group Memberships    *Administrators
        Global Group Memberships   *None
What must I do to successfully give the local user Administrator rights?

    Jamster,
I figured out the solution, but I'm not sure your problem is the same...
In my case, the problem was that the LocalAccount/Name was the same as the ComputerName. As a last resort, all I did was change the LocalAccount/Name to something other than the ComputerName, and voila, after re-installing the image the local account was
suddenly a member of Administrators. Crazy... you'd think they'd be able to tell the difference between the ComputerName and a local account name! In case anyone's wondering, it has nothing to do with the length of the local account Name (I tested that.)

  • SystemAdmin Right Problem

    Hai experts ,
    1. When i started the Server Manager(BPC), it prompt out "Your login ID (Administrator) does not have Sysadmin rights. You must log on with a user ID that has sysAdmin privilleges." How to solve this problem ??
    2.  My SQL Server 2005 already upgraded to SP2, but the requirement status (SQL Server Version, SSRS, OLAP) still display incorrect. What is the problem ?
    Thanks alot !!!

Thanks for the help - I had a similar issue.  What I did (and I assume this is what was implied since it worked)
    I have a multi-server environment.
    1. Logged into the application server as user account I want to be the sysadmin
    2. found OsoftSetup.exe (for me it was "C:\BPC\Websrvr\Web\Installation\OSoftSSIS_Client.zip")
NOTE - also found it unzipped at "C:\BPC\Websrvr\Web\Installation\OSoftSSIS_Client"
If you extract it from the zip ensure that you extract all the supporting folders/dlls.
    3. Ran it and specified my SQL server and appropriate user account and clicked OK. (NOTE it defaults your username with the wrong domain)  This took about 5-10 minutes to complete.
after this was complete I was able to run the server manager without trouble.
A step that I went through that I don't think was neccesary, but it's something I did none-the-less was run this script on the SQL server (replace your username etc as neccessary).  All this did was make the user account a member of the sysadmin roll inside of ApShell in BPC.
    USE AppServer
    go
    insert into tblappsetaccess (AppSetID,UserID,UserType) values('ApShell','MYDOMAIN\MyUser','7')
    select * from tblappsetaccess
    order by appsetID
