NI-Fieldpoint support in Windows 7 and LabView 8.6

We have a "classic" FieldPoint system with an ethernet controller. We want to be able to read/write from/to the FieldPoint network using a computer with LabView 8.6 and Window 7. Is NI-FieldPoint supported in LabView 8.6 and Windows 7?

Hi natewkidd,
I feel like there is some confusion between the operating systems running on a development machine (like Windows 7) and the real-time operating systems that run on our real-time controllers (like the FP-2000). I will do my best to clear up this confusion by first answering your questions.
1) What is the difference between LabView Real-Time 2009 and LabView 2009?
LabVIEW Real-Time 2009 is actually a software package officially known as the LabVIEW 2009 Real-Time Module that is installed after the LabVIEW 2009 development software to allow the user to develop and deploy real-time applications to real-time targets such as your FP-2000. You can think of the LabVIEW 2009 Real-Time Module almost as a plug-in for LabVIEW 2009 to allow for real-time application development and deployment.
2) If I have a FP-2000 on the ethernet network and want to use a computer running Windows 7 and LabView 2009 to record and display data, will I still be able to communicate with the FieldPoint network using the FieldPoint Read/Write VIs from my Windows 7 machine?
If you were just going to use the FP-2000 as a network module (NOT deploying a real-time application to run on the FP-2000 itself), you should be able to communicate with it using just the FieldPoint Read/Write VIs from your Windows 7 machine with LabVIEW 2009 and the NI-FieldPoint 6.0.5 driver. In this situation, you actually do not need the Real-Time Module since you are not deploying the application to the real-time target.
Regarding the FP-2000 not being supported beyond LabVIEW 8.5.1, this is because the memory on the controller is not large enough to hold the software that is installed on the controller with LabVIEW 8.6.x Real-Time Module and the LabVIEW 2009 Real-Time Module. For more information on this please check out this KnowledgeBase article.
I hope this is helpful! Let me know if you have any further questions.

    I've bought a new cd/dvd drive Mat****a Panasonic.
It only work on Windows 2000, it's not supported by Windows XP and Bios, so i can't boot with.

Could you please provide some information (name) about you notebook?
Did you bought this drive or was this drive delivered with the notebook?
If the drive cannot berecognised by BIOS then in my opinion the drive supports wrong master / slave / c-sel settings.
You should know that not all drives are compatible.
The settings cannot be changed because the drive dose not supports any jumpers but only the firmware.

  • How to implement a dual booting PXI system using windows 7 and labview RT

    Good Day
My name is Mariano Ocana from the University of Manitoba, and I want to implement a dual system using windows 7 and labview RT in a PXIe-1082 chassis with a PXIe-8102 embedded controlled (the chassis came with windows 7 installed). What are the steps to use both systems (windows and RT)  in the same chassis?, in the NI help comes an example implementing a dual system using windows xp and RT, it is the same procedure?.
Thank you in advance for all your help.
    Regards
    M. Ocana

    Greetings, Mariano.
The real issue you have to contend with is whether or not you have a LabVIEW RT license.  If the 8102 controller was purchased Windows-Only, you likely do not have a license to run LabVIEW RT on the controller - you can purchase one, I think it's about $500, and at that point you can request a LabVIEW RT Configuration CD (that's not what it's called, but the sales guy will know what I'm talking about).  The Config CD is a CD that will partition your controller correctly with both FAT32 and NTFS filesystems (in the appropriate way) to allow you to run Windows 7 and LabVIEW Real-Time on the controller correctly.  Once done, you can then switch within the BIOS between LabVIEW Real-Time and Windows in order to dual-boot.
Either way, you likely need to contact NI sales to either purchase an RT license (if one was not received at the time of purchase) or to request a Configuration CD (it might also be called a dual-boot install CD or similar).

  • Adobe AIR support for Windows RT and USB

We want to develop an cross platform application. We found that Adobe AIR supports cross platform development for Windows, iOS and Android.
    We wanted to know wheather
    1) reading and writing to USB port is possible with Adobe AIR?
    2) Adobe AIR has support for Windows RT development?
    Thanks in advance.

I wrote before about my concerns with Adobe AIR, but here is a short summary:
    - no road map and no clear plans for the platform,
    - support of new devices is often late, Intel chipsets are not supported on Android,
    - debugging on a device is a pain,
    - inadequate build times for iOS, app package is quite large,
    - list of mobile UI components is very limited and UI experience is far from native,
    - native extensions are a possibility but still far from perfect (imagine using three very different development platforms all in one app), no debugging,
    - performance is not good if you use a lot of Spark components in your app,
    - Flash Builder is pretty bad as the development environment,
    - ActionScript3 is a poor, outdated language that encourages bad coding practices.
I ruled out HTML5 frameworks for the same reason as you stated above. Last few months I've been working with Xamarin MonoTouch and I think it is perfect for my projects. 100% native UI experience, about 80% of the code is shared among the platforms, iOS, MacOSX, Android and Windows 8/RT are supported. Took me about 2 months to convert my 2Mb ActionScript Adobe AIR project to Xamarin MonoTouch (iOS). The entire process was fun and painless. Now thinking to port to MacOSX and Android. My iOS app is already at the App Store, no major complains so far.
On a down side, Xamarin is expensive for an indie developer with low revenues. You need to pay $300 per year per each platform (iOS, Android, Mac). Plus, you need to develop UI layer separately for each platform, so only part of the code is shared. But I decided it is a way to go for my projects and it's been a very positive experience so far.
As for my professional development, Xamarin offers quite a bit more as well. I get to work with C#, .NET, iOS SDK, Android SDK all in one platform. With Adobe tools you only get to know ActionScript and Flex/Spark framework. Very rarely I see that as a desired qualification. It is like a trap. Your boss tells you to develop a few projects with Adobe tools, it sucks you in for a few years and suddenly you realize that your market value declined dramatically and there is no easy way out of this mess.

  • PCMCIA-GPIB support for Windows 7 and 8

I understand the PCMCIA-GPIB adapters are legacy devices, however, for some of us who still have these adapters and platforms with Windows 7 or 8 on them, it would be very useful to see a supported release of NI488.2. I haven't been able to get any version of the software to work yet (I'm running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit) with this adapter. If anyone has a workaround available, without having to install XP or using a virtual environment, please share. If NI still sells this product, then it would seem appropriate that it should be fully supported.
Current use: Data collection via Agilent IC-CAP, Silvaco UTMOST IV, and MATLAB from parameter analyzers, LCR meters, and network analyzers for on-wafer probing.

    Too bad.
It looks like they dropped support for the PCMCIA-GPIB completely with Windows 7.
The ironic thing is that they still sell this card. I would bet most people don't know that it isn't supported with Windows 7.
I wouldn't have know if I hadn't read your post.
    Very bad of NI.

  • Support with Windows 10 and Poker Software

Hi, I am a poker player and have recently upgraded to windows 10 - my poker software has worked perfectly for years. Last night i finally managed to upgrade to windows 10. Once the upgrade was finished, however, i am now unable to log into my poker software. This screenshot displays the issue http://prntscr.com/7zfs5o The log in screen usually has a place to log in but in this instance it is completely grey and has no writing? Also, I have found that my scrolling pad does not work, and that the option is unticked in my settings. This is annoying as whenever i restart my computer, I have to also reselect this option My computer is a HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-f107na and was previously running windows 8 I have trouble shooted the software on the HP website, and havent found any issues Please help!

I've also updated my BIOS and still no luck - anyone?

  • Convert PXIe-8135 controller to dual-boot Windows 7 and LabVIEW RT

Hello. I have a PXIe-8135 controller that originally was just running Windows 7. We are trying to convert it to a dual boot system to also run LabView Real Time. (There is host computer that will run LabVIEW 2014 with the RT module, and the controller will become a target).
I have created a FAT32 partition on the hard drive of the controller. Now, I’m trying to install the real-time OS with a USB flash drive made using the MAX utility, but I cannot boot using the USB drive for some reason. I keep getting the message “waiting for USB device to initialize”.
In BIOS, legacy USB support is [ENABLED] and boot configuration is set to [Windows/other OS]. I’ve tried removing the drive, waiting, and reinserting. I’ve tried two different USB drives (both 8 GB, different brands).
I’m not sure what to do next. Apart from the USB boot issue, is converting the PXIe-8135 even possible?  I read about SATA/PATA hard drive issues with older controllers, but I don't know about this one.
Thanks, in advance, for your help!

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Per Siana's licensing comment, more information on purchasing a deployment license if you do not have one for this target can be found here.
The RT Utility USB key is used to set up non-NI hardware with LabVIEW Real-Time, but you should not need it in this situation to convert to dual-boot (*). Try this:
    1. Since you already have a FAT32 partion created, go into BIOS setup and change to booting 'LabVIEW RT'.
    2. The system will attempt to boot LabVIEW RT, see that the partition is empty, and switch over into LabVIEW RT Safe Mode. (this safemode is built into the firmware, which is why you don't really need the USB key).
    3. The system should come up correctly and be detectable from MAX, and you can proceed with installing software.
    4. To switch back to Windows, go back to BIOS setup and choose 'Windows/Other OS'
(*) One area where the USB key is helpful on a dual boot system is with formatting the disk. If you want to convert from FAT32 to Reliance on the partition designated for LabVIEW RT, the USB key lets you attempt to format a single parition and leave the rest of the disk untouched. If you format from MAX, the standard behavior is to format only one RT partition if found, but if not found, it will format the entire disk.  Formatting from MAX on a dual boot system is consequently riskier and you could lose your Windows partition.

  • Windows 8 and Labview 2013 FPGA

I installed Labview 2013 including the FPGA design suite on a Windows 8 (x64) host. I was surprised to see Windows 8 on the list of supported OS as I was aware that up to this day no Xilinx design suite supported Windows 8.
But as a matter of fact it didn't took long before I hit:
ERROR: Simulator:861 - Failed to link the design
following this tutorial while clicking on check syntax (using one of the VHDL file provided with the tutorial). The error is clearly linked to a lack of Windows 8 compatibility from the XIlinx tools running underneath. Is there a known workaround? Thanks.

That I could do but Linux is not listed here ... but Windows 8 is listed as supported for the farm server and not for the development environment. Isn't is the other way around? On top of that it looks like we should read GB instead of MB for the farm toolkit.

  • Windows vista and labview 8.2

Has anyone tried LabVIEW8.2 and Daqmx with Windows vista? Are NI products(LV + DAQ drivers + Database connectivity toolkit) compatable with Win Vista?
Does the application developed in win vista work for winxp also?
    Thanks!

    Hello, software engineer!
NI will release updated drivers and application software which will specifically say they are Windows Vista compatible. NI does not recommend installing your older drivers and software on Windows Vista as they were not designed with Vista in mind. • BDB support for Windows Vista, WIndows 7 and Windows Server?

    Hello,
I examine to use BDB on Windows, and I have a question.
    There's a description about supported OSs on the BDB reference guide as follows;
    Where does Berkeley DB run?
The Berkeley DB distribution includes support for Windows/95, Windows/98, Windows/NT, Windows/2000 and Windows/XP, via the Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 and .NET development environments.
Does BDB distribution supports for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2003?
And it will support Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7?
I believe that BDB does not depend on specific function of Windows, thus there's no problem to support them...
    Regards,
    Akira

Yes, we have a plan about BDB support for Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows Server. Once we are ready, we'll let you know here.
    Hi Vit,
For Berkeley DB XML questions, please go to the Berkeley DB XML forum at: Berkeley DB XML
By the way, I learnt there's a XP-compatible mode in Windows 7. You may want to try DB-XML with that.

  • SPS upgrade from 18 to 21 due to Windows 7 and IE 8 Release

    Hi Guys,
Our client has decided to upgrade their user's OS from Windows XP to Windows 7. Also the IE will be upgraded to IE8.
We did an impact analysis with a single system for the BW front end. Except a few minor errors, nothing serious troubled the SAP in Windows 7 OS.
SAP has confirmed that for the official support for Windows 7 and IE 8 will require minimum SPS of 21. Thus we are planning for SPS upgrade from 18 to 21.
I am still waiting for the Side Effect Report, I would like to check with you if anyone has encountered any error after Windows 7 upgrade?
Will BEx work even if the OS is Windows 7 and Office is low version such as 2000, 2003.
    Any impact on portal 700?
Appreciate any kinds of input from you All

  • Using J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 on Windows 98 and Windows Me

I know J2EE isn't supported on Windows 98 and Windows Me, but like many others I've been able to get J2EE 1.3.1 and J2EE 1.4 Beta to work quite well on Windows 98 and Windows Me. However, no such luck when I tried to do the same with J2EE 1.4 Beta 2. Basically, after downloading j2eesdk-1_4-beta2-windows-eval-app.zip, extracting it into C:\j2ee_app_win, and double clicking setup.exe (or setup.dos.exe for that matter), the setup GUI doesn't appear. Has anybody gotten passed this point and gotten it to work?

Basically, J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 setup.exe doesn't work on Windows 98 or Windows Me even with 256 MB of memory. You'll see it appear on the task bar and then disappear right away. The setup task keeps running, so you have to kill it with Ctrl-Alt-Del.
However, J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 does work quite well on Windows XP Home Edition even though it's not supported by Sun. So if you don't have Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000, you can at least try it.
For help installing and getting started with J2EE 1.4 Beta 2 on Windows XP, see http://groups.msn.com/J2EETools.

    Hello,
I ran into the same problem searching for the 1.4.2 JDK for Windows x64 platform and found this discussion post. It was helpful!
Could you tell me where to download the JCE policy files from? Do they need to match the same JDK version (1.4.2)?
The Install Guide for SAP NetWeaver 7.0 SR3 Java on Windows MS SQL Server says to download the JCE policy files for your platform (Windows x64) from http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads. But I could only find jce_policy-6.zip. Is that the right JCE policy files for Windows 2003 x64 64bit platform for SUN JSE 1.4.2 64bit?
