No infrared at all?

I can't seem to use my Apple Remote with my MacBook Pro. I thought the battery in the remote might be dead, so I replaced it, but it still doesn't work. I've read that I should try unpairing the Remote (it was paired) and then re-pairing. Unfortunately, there's no mention of pairing in the Security pane of my System Preferences!

See?
I haven't used my Remote since before the upgrade to Leopard. (I'd lost the Remote in my apartment.)
What's wrong here?

It's not your remote.
Two things to try.
First, drag the file
com.apple.security.plist
in your home library/preferences
to the desktop and reboot.
See if that works.
If not, shutdown the computer and reset PRAM as follows:
■ Shut down your computer. Turn the computer back on and immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R, continuing to press until you hear the startup sound for the second time. This resets the computer’s parameter random-access memory (PRAM).
IMPORTANT: Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

  • Cameras and infrared

I had recently purchased a new fujifilm camera that says its capable of transfering pictures via infrared on all forms of infrared. question is does the imac have this capability? I know it has a reader in the computer and it says its good for the front row remote but can it be used for this application? any help would be appreciated. thanks

As far as I know, the infrared capability of the Intel-based iMac is only for the remote.

  • HOW GOOD IS THE XA 20 FOR RECORDING NIGHT SKY EVENTS IN IR MODE OR IS IT JUST FOR FACES UP CLOSE?

I WANT TO KNOW  IF THE XA 20 CAMCORDER HAS ENOUGH IR ILLUMINATION POWER TO RECORD STARS,SATTELITES ,POSSIBLE UFOS .   WILL IT BE A GRAINY MESS OR WILL THERE BE SOMETHING OF IDENTIFIABLE RESOLUTION?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello SB7,
The IR recording mode on the XA20 could potentially be used for this, it is reading infrared after all, but we don't think it would have enough light gathering ability to properly record this.  So despite it having the potential as being used this way it would be difficult to recommend it specifically for this purpose.

Wow!  I think I had this same issue just last night.
I was cleaning my macbook pro retina on the outside.  Then I opened it up and was wiping dust off the monitor and I can't pinpoint exactly when, but the colors changed suddenly.  It looked super strange, it was like green halo's and it looked worse when looking at it at an angle.  Of course I took no pictures!!!  I was freaking out that my 2 grand laptop was busted and I somehow removed a protective film or something.
But I digress...  The image looked very green and spacey, it was almost a neat effect.  After about 5 minutes it started to look a little more digital though.  There were straight lines of this halo effect on the edges and top.  After about 10 minutes it turned into a predominate issue with the blacks on screen.  I could open a web browser and it was unnoticable on a white background.  After about 15 minutes, you could only barely see the green cloud effect if you looked at the monitor from an extreme angle.  After about 20 minutes, it was completely back to normal, I almost feel paranoid like I see a halo or something strange.  But I believe that might be all in my head now.
So yerp, lemme know what you guys figure out.

  • Device not working after updating from 8 to 8.1: SMK Ehome Infrared Transceiver and remote control (usb)

    Hi all,
An excellent 2015 to you all.
I wonder whether it's possible to get my (USB) SMK Ehome Infrared transceiver (which serves to connect my PC to a remote control)  to work again. It functioned okay under Windows 8, but when I upgraded my system to Windows 8.1 it didn't respond anymore.
How's that possible? And do you have any ideas how I can resolve this?
I use the remote control to start and stop videos and to adjust the sound volume.
    What I have done already:
-disabled and enabled the consumer IR devices under 'HID devices' in device management.
-disabled and enabled the USB controller for the Ehome Infrared Receiver.
No luck so far. Anybody knows what to do?
    Cheers,
    Peter

    Hi,
What is the driver status in device manager? Have you tried to manually download the right version driver for Windows 8.1 from the transceiver's manufacture website and install it in your system?
Meanwhile, please run services.msc to launch services manager, then scroll down to "Human Interface Device Access service", make sure the service is "started" to "manual" or "automatic", test the issue again.

    TechNet Community Support
Thanks, Yolanda Zhu. There is no driver on the manufacturer's website, but the driver is included from  Windows versions XP to 8 and the device responds as expected under these OS Versions. In Windows 8.1 it seems also to be included, and device manager
indicates under Human Interface Devices that the 'Microsoft eHome infra transceiver' driver  functions correctly and under
Universal Serial Bus controllers that 'eHome infrared receiver' (USBCIR) functions correctly as well.  But when I press the remote, the red LED blinks, but nothing else happens.
The "Human Interface Device Service" is set to automatic and is being executed.
Can it be that the mapping ('action on remote' to 'action on PC') is lost somehow?
    Cheers,
    Peter AKA Django

  • Satellite P850 - question about Infrared port

    Hi,
I have Windows 8 Pro installed onto my laptop and I've downloaded all the drivers and everything is working fine apart from the Infrared. I've searched all over the internet and I can't find a remote control to use with this laptop (including the Toshiba website).
I've installed the latest ENE CIR Driver (v4.1) as well as the Toshiba Remote Control Manager (v3.1.0.1). I looked in Program Files to open the Toshiba Remote Control Manager however when I click on the program to open it... Nothing happens (including in the notification area).
So my question is can I actually get a remote working with this laptop at all and if not then what is this Infrared port for because I can't find anything on my computer to actually use it with/for?!
    Thanks for your help :p

    Hi
Some Satellite P850 models are equipped with the remote controller and its possible to use the remote controller with Windows Media Center to play discs or videos, to view pictures and to watch recorded TV programs.
Models which dont include the a remote controller are *NOT* equipped with the an infrared receiver so the notebook cannot be operated with a remote controller.
The remote controller was not part of the package so your notebook does not support infrared receiver and therefore the installation of ENE CIR Driver and Toshiba Remote Control Manager was useless

  • Problem with Lightroom and Infrared Photography

This problem is specifically related to using LR & PS to process Infrared images. I apologize if this forum may not be the correct place to ask this question.  I am having problems processing Infrared Images when using LR & PS.  I take my IR images with a 530 IR conversion to a Canon G12 camera.  I learned early on Adobe products don't play well with IR images (they come in magenta when importing ) so I bring IR images shot withmy G12  into my computer with Canon Digital Photo Professional and then work in LR & PS from there.
If I then directly open this imported image from my hard drive into Photoshop and try and do adjustments such as blue sky adjustments with a red/blue channel swap, it works fine, just as I would expect.
(If you are not familiar with IR processing, I understand this introduction and question will not make sense)
But when using Lightroom, I sometimes have issues. I always import all my images into LR. Even with IR images, after using DPP to bring them to my computer, I import them into LR for cataloging purposes and to make other potential adjustments. Then my usual workflow is to move photos from LR to Photoshop via the "edit in" command. This opens a dialog box giving a choice of "edit a copy with LR adjustments" which is the default option and the one I always use, or "edit original".
Here's the interesting thing I finally discovered.
If I send the photo from LR to PS using the "edit a copy with Lightroom adjustments" option, I get a bad blue sky effect, where the sky is green and the foliage is pink instead of the sky being blue and the foliage yellow. But if I send it to PS using the "edit original" option, the blue sky effect works fine.
So there appears to be an issue when tring to send IR images from Lightroom to Photoshop. Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

Thanks so much for working on this.
I fear the behavior you noticed was just due to the fact I cheanged the
file from 16 bit to 8 bit so the size was smaller and I could easily email
it.  When I open any of my regular 16 bit files, whether I send them to PS
as "edit original" or "edit copy with lightroom adjustments", they both end
up as 16 bit and as far as I can see, seem the same, though obviously they
    are not.
I don't really have a preset, but I'll walk you through the process.
    1. Choose Channel Mixer from the Adjustment Pannel
    2. Make sure the output channel is red, change the red channel slider from
100% to 0% and increase the blue channel slider from 0% to 100%.  You can
    type in the values.
    3. Change the output channel to blue.  Increase the red channel from 0% to
100% and the blue channel from 100% to 0%.
This is supposed to change the sky from brown to blue and the foliage from
blue to yellow and is what happens when you use the "edit original"
option.  When you use the "edit copy with lightroom adjustments", the sky
turns green and the foliage pink.  So you get 2 different behaviors,
depending on which option you use to bring the image from LR to PS.
That's my question, why do you get 2 different behaviors?
    Thanks,
    Matthew Kraus

  • Questions about remote control and infrared port Qosmio F20

    Hi again,
My Toshiba Qosmio F20 comes with a remote control funcioning through a infrared device on the front of the computer.
Regarding this I have 2 questions:
    1. How do I configure additonal functionality through the remote control? (Like launching and controlling Winamp?)
    2. How do I connect other devices, like my cellular phone, pdas etc., to the infrared device on my computer?
    Kind regards,
    Vegard

    Hi,
the Remote Control delivered with the Qosmio F20 is designed only for Windows XP Media Center Edition (all Remote Control's which are designed for Windows XP Media Center Edition work only with Media Center or Windows Media Player). Other program's like Winamp were not supported by these Remote Control's.
I believe, the Remote Control's are made by Microsoft and for a wide palette of product's (the Infrared Transceiver is on nearly all Media Center PC's e.g. Siemens-Fujitsu, the same). So it's a little bit tricky to support more program's then Media Center or Windows Media Player.
For other program's you need a second Remote Control like this one:

  • Infrared Receiver for 1st gen iMac G5 to work with Remote?

    Hello,
My girlfriend gave me a new Apple Remote control but I don't have an infrared reciever in my first generation iMac G5.
Can I get external ones, will they work, where can I get them at a reasonable price (I'm a poor student).
All the best and thanks for the help
    Joseph

    Thanks for the comments,
I'm not worried about it working with software etc (I have Front Row - best
not say how I got it). My experience of using Macs has taught me that
additional software for running peripheral devices isn't usually required.
I was hoping for information about buying an external IR reciever that could
work through a USB socket or something. I've checked and haven't been able
to find one and thought you guys might know where (online) I might be able
    to pick one up.
So there's an IR Reciever in the iPod Dock? If I got one of those could it to operate Front Row or just the iPod?

  • Infrared picture with high resolution

I'm very familiar with LabVIEW programming, have set up a couple of applications with ordinary cameras, but have never worked with IR  before. Now I'm interested in a infrared picture with as high resolution as possible, and I don't really need a video-film, one picture every 10 seconds is probably more than good enough. What's out there on the market for anything like this ?
    Martin

If by IR you mean thermal, high resolution and high cost are the norm.
FLIR is probably the largest supplier.  you can get HD resolution from a FLIR SC8300, but the cost in $200K+.  The FLIR SC line typically have resolutions of 640x512, but they are cooled cameras, which is part of the reason why they are so expensive.
On the lower end, still at around 640x480, you have the A615, around $20K, or the A65 at around $9K.  The A6x5/A3x5, and Ax5 series cameras all support GENiCAM, and work very well with NI Vision Development Module.

  • Why does my infrared custom white balance not load into Lightroom or CameraRaw?

The preview shows the correct WB, but the full render removes WB and any monochromatic color profiles.
Correct WB that I want. As seen from back of camera
Once the full preview loads. DO NOT WANT.
White balance is at 2000, the coolest it can go. I cannot recreate the custom WB that is in camera. I can make all of the B&W, but I want the custom WB so I can do a proper channel mix in PS.
    Thank you for any help.

You can use the DNG Profile Editor to add a negative bias to the WB settings in an existing camera profile and save it as a new profile (for IR) so you can adjust the effective WB lower than 2000K:
    http://stevencastle.wordpress.com/2010/07/17/processing-infrared-shots-in-adobe-camera-raw /
It still won’t pick up what the camera did, but you can adjust things lower, at least.
If this one page doesn’t make sense Google for (DNG Profile Editor IR white balance)
