  • Need internet connection Window on refresh. How to?

I have Mountain Lion. We use Safari. My home network includes two iMacs. Mine is upstairs and my husband's is downstairs. We get our internet through Comcast. The problem I am going to describe just happened after we had a faster cable modem installed. The modem is upstairs near my computer. I am the network manager and we both connect through wifi.
Since the new modem, whenever I return to my desk and refresh the screen a small pop-up window comes up saying I am not connected and giving me a choice of whatever networks it finds available with an option to highlight and join. I find mine and join and we are in business. Very simple efficient and effective.  However, my husband does not get this little helper. He first discovers he can't use mail and can't connect to the internet on Safari. There on the Safari window is an apology about not being to find his internet page because he isn't connected and a link to internet diagnostics. After going through all the click here and continues, he can finally connect. He is not very computer experienced and finds this very annoying. Comcast tells me it is a software problem and nothing they can fix. How can I give him the same simple option that I have? Step by step, please.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

A Comcast repairman fixed this problem for me.

  • Annoying Internet Connect problem

I connect using ADSL via an external modem, though every few minutes I have an Internet Connect window pop up telling me that it is trying to connect via ethernet. It seems there is no preference to stop this from happening, and also I am unable to erase the user name and password from this area. Could anyone tell me how to make it stop as it it becoming very annoying?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi and welcome to Discussions!
If you go to System preferences>Network, Show 'Network Port Configurations', you should see a list of different connections. Untick any that you don't want to use and drag your default connection to the top. And/or in the location box click edit locations. You then get a box up with, probably, more than one listed. Select the one(s) you don't use and click delete.
    Good luck!

  • Error Message "Internet Connect"

I am receiving (last 48 hours) an error message on start up and periodically throughout the day the reads "Internet Connect-Could not open the communication device".
My internet connection is fine and all my connected devices seem to be working fine except one - an external drive 'LaCie big disk extreme+' (1 Tera bite) using fire wire 800 daisy chained with two (2) other external drives a smaller LaCie and a 1 Tera bite Maxtor. The 'LaCie big disk' shows up on my desk top but not in my Finder which makes it not useful when saving files from programs. All of the other external disks shoe up in the finder and desk top.
Any ideas on what is going on with the error message and how to get the LaCie to show up in my Finder?

    Hi guys,
Can you help? I am using BT Broadband in the UK via a wireless router. However, every time my computer wakes up from sleeping an Internet Connection window pops open and says "The selected communications device is not available. Please check your settings" or something to that effect.
Why does it do this and how can I stop it? My airport works just fine and automatically connects to the broadband.....
    Thanks

    Hi,
You can refer to this blog, and try to roll back to the older version of network adapter driver to check the results. Other suggestions can also be used to troubleshoot your issue.

  • Setting up a new TC.  Everything went fine.  I was able to connect a macbook air, 2 ipads, an Iphone 6, and even a windows 7 PC.  All devices showed a complete and functioning internet connection, but none of the devices could access the internet.

I am trying to set up internet connection to my home using a 3gig Airport time capsule as a router.  I unplugged the cable from the existing router, and plugged it into the ethernet port of the TC.  The TC fired up found tttttttthe internet connection, and glowed green.  I set up the password, and all, and was then able to connect a Windows 7 PC, 2 ipads, and iphone 6, and a macbbook air, all running the most current os.  All devices connect with the internet via the Airport device.  they all say that there is a fully functioning internet connection, but none of them can actually connect to the internet.  When I run a speed test via OKLA I am told that the test failed to innatiate. When I try to do a search I get an error message that the page cannot open because safari cannot make a secure connection to the server.
    Any suggestions?

Inside the house I have what looks like a phone cable that is plugged into a power supply, and into a router.
What is this router?? Is it the TC or a router supplied by the ISP?
It will depend on how the system works.. but the instructions from skybeam are fairly simple.. you just setup a router with dhcp set on the WAN port for connection.
On the airport utility open your TC by clicking it then clicking edit.
Make sure the WAN is set correctly and the ISP ethernet cable is plugged into it.
And make sure Network is set to DHCP and NAT.
Please give me the screenshots of the same things from your setup.

  • Loss of internet connectivity after upgrading to windows 8.1

Hi, After upgrading to windows 8.1 from windows 8 i am experiencing major problems , loss of internet connectivity for no reason both I.E. and G/CHROME are now taking an age to open there are no virus issues as far as i can see.
I have uninstalled and re-installed  windows 8.1 about four times over the past 9 months or so and the same thing happens after all the updates are in it runs like a dream for say 6weeks or so then i get the same faults as described above then i uninstall/ re-install ok for 6 weeks .
I would apprieate any help or advice thanks

    Hi @BMATH
    Thank you your query.
I understand that after updating to Windows 8.1 about every 6 weeks you loose wireless connectivity for no reason  and the web pages are very slow to open.  If you uninstall and reinstall Windows 8.1 it works fine again for about the same amount of time.  You have done this about 4 times with the same result each time.
Do you know if there is any changes at that time , perhaps an update?
You stated you do not believe you have any viruses.  Just to be sure here are two links that will help confirm that.

After updating to Windows 8.1 have you checked for Windows updates?

  • Firefox 22.0 ONLY connects to Internet in Windows 7 'Safe Mode' (IE does connect)

FireFox 22.0 only works in Windows 7 'Safe Mode'. Any other program on computer that needs the Internet connects fine; i.e. the Internet connection is good.
Have not recently installed an update, nor 'Add-On'; this is PURELY a FireFox problem. The problem started "suddenly".. no new installs of programs etc.
    Actions:
    - Deleted Firefox; Re-Installed it → Same result, FF does not connect
    - Reset Computer to earlier time/date → Same result.
    - Created new FireFox Profile; signed in with new profile → Same result.
    - Renamed 'Firefox.exe' to 'Firefox1.exe' → Same Result
    - Run 'Norton Antivirus' scan → no problems found; Same result
    - Deleted "Norton AntiVirus' → Same result.
    - Run latest updated 'Malwarebytes Anti-Malware' scan → no problems found; Same result
    - Deleted 'Anti-Malware' → Same result.
    - Cleaned Registry of any 'Mozilla' and 'FireFox' reference → Same result
→ Checked in 'Safe Mode' 'Task Manager - Processes' ... few files there.
→ Checked in 'Normal Mode' 'Task Manager - Processes'.. a lot of files there...
    > In 'Normal Mode' deleted 'Processes' files to bare minimum, testing FireFox after each deletion → Same Result.
    Note:
In Windows 7 'Safe Mode', there are two files which are NOT shown in 'Normal Mode' in
    'Task Manager - Processes';
    - ctfmon.exe &
    - dllhost.exe.
Can't find info on them if they're needed by FireFox or not to connect to the Internet.
    > In 'Safe Mode': they are present, and FF connects.
    > In 'Normal Mode': they're not present, FF does NOT connect.
    Could still be coincidence.
As for the "Troubleshooting Information" that's associated with the Question page for posting this question ("..This information gives details about the internal workings of your browser that will help in answering your question...."):
"...A window will (NOT) open in the top corner..."...
Because it ONLY works in FireFox webbrowser.. and guess what?...
My Mozilla FireFox Web Browser can NOT connect to the Internet... (See Top of this Question Page).
And guess what happens when I click on "...Try these manual steps..." to provide troubleshooting information?!?!?!?
Another "..Fill in the details of your question.." page opens up...
Anybody any thoughts? Pascal Finette? Jamie Zawinski? Dave Hyatt? Joe Hewitt? Blake Ross?
Maybe anybody else from the Netscape Navigator days still around??!?! ;-)

Had deleted '''HideMyIP-P''' from computer recently, and didn't have problems untill I re-started computer... Which, come to think of it now, wasn't until a few days after deleting ''''HMIP-P''''... (computer is 'on' 24/7).
Then, on start-up, it wouldn't allow FireFox to connect to the Internet.
After reading through the website you recommneded, which mentiond ''HideMyIP-P'', I re-Installed ''HMIP-P'', then turned the "hiding" 'off' and was allowed(!) with FireFox to connect again.

  • I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on my MacBook. Constantly dropping internet connection or message "error connecting to the network" comes up. No wireless connectivity issues with windows 7 laptop or iphone.

I have a MacBook with Snow Leopard 10.6.8. The last few weeks it has been constantly dropping internet connection, and one of these messages appear on the page: "Safari cannot open this page because the server where this page is located isn't responding" or "Safari cannot open this page because you are not connected to the internet" comes up. I will check Wifi and I am connected. No wifi connectivity issues with iphone or windows 7 laptop, this doesn't happen with either of those devices. I have unplugged and reset router, cleared cache, still happening. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

  • Windows 7 - Boot Camp - No Internet Connection

    Hello,
I just installed windows 7 (enterprise 64bit) onto my iMac (running the latest OS). When I log onto the Windows 7 OS it says I have no internet connection. I  use wireless, is this a problem with my network working with windows 7? wireless works on Mountain Lion just fine. Any tips on how to resolve this issue? I looked online for help and it says to reinstall the drivers from the boot camp CD. But these were old post when they use to have CDs for Boot Camp, it is now just an application on my mac. I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
    Thank you,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Windows requires Boot Camp drivers to work correctly on a Mac.
    1. Press Option key when your Mac starts and choose Macintosh HD.
    2. Open Boot Camp Assistant, download the Boot Camp drivers and burn them into an USB disk or DVD.
    3. Start in Windows and install Boot Camp drivers

  • HP Pavilion 15t Issues with Limited Internet Connectivity on Windows 8

So, I just received my new HP Pavilion 15t-e000 CTO Notebook PC last week, it runs Windows 8, & it's a 64 bit.
The only problem I've had is staying connected to my wireless Internet. The connection will cut out at random intervals saying "Limited" instead of "Connected". I constantly have to disconnect and connect to my wireless Internet. It is especially frustrating when I am trying to download something that takes longer than a couple of minutes because the Internet connection cuts out and I have to start the process all over again.
I have tried pretty much every "fix" people have posted that have worked for some people. No such luck for me. Sometimes it seems like it will stay connected and then I try to connect to a web page or download something and it goes out again.
    - Turning off the "Allow computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power Management in the Properties section of my Wireless connection.... DID NOT WORK
    - Using the command prompt to reset the network adapter ... DID NOT WORK
    - Running the Network and Internet and whatever else Troubleshooters ... DID NOT WORK ***Update: If I run the network connection test via the HP Help/Support center on my desktop while the connection says Limited, I receive the notice that the "default gateway was not available" and the router was reset and issue fixed, etc. BUT, if I run the test while the wireless says Connected, the test always says there is no problem. And even though the test "fixed" the issue, it didn't because the Internet always cuts out again.
    - Windows Updates has installed new updates a few times ... DID NOT WORK
    - Forgetting the Wireless Network and Setting it Up as a new one again ... DID NOT WORK
    - Using my computer right next to my wireless router ... DID NOT WORK
The wireless router being used is: Cisco Linksys Wireless-G 2.4GHz Broadband Router and our network is WPA with a security code. We also have a SpeedStream DSL Internet thing (sorry, I don't know what it is called). The compatibility center says this router is compatible with Windows 8 by the way. Other computers running Windows 7 and Windows Vista, iPhones, and iPads all work fine.
My laptop uses Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 and the light is on and it always says "device is working properly" in Properties.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated because I am at my wits end.
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

So, it seems my issue with the Limited Internet connection has been resolved. I didn't use my computer for two days and this afternoon when I turned it on I was still having issues. However, I went into the HP Support Assistant and it popped up that I had some updates to download and install, so I let it do its thing. It took a while because the Internet kept cutting out, but once the update for the Intel Wireless finally installed, my connection has STAYED CONNECTED. Finally!
I don't know why when I went into the wireless properties it said "device is working properly" and when I tried to Update the driver it said "your driver is the latest version" or whatever.
I suggest you go to the HP Support Assistant and check for updates in the "Updates and Tune-Ups" section. It was kind of random, but knock on wood my Wireless connection issue looks to be gone.
    Hope this helps
