No Javadocs in Creator 2

I'm new to java, attempting to learn after many years experience with C++. I've downloaded Sun Creator 2 and it works fine, except the javadocs seem to be mising. How can I get them integrated into Creator?

I have seen this fail (and I don't know why) but if so will output a dialog with error message...
Javadoc Index Search does work in both the Creator 2 download, as
well as with hotfixes from the Update Center. As a workaround, not a solution,
but perhaps a temporary solution, if you don't mind, simply rename your
current userdir. Exit Creator, then rename C:\documents and settings\<youraccount>\.Creator\2_0 to old2_0, then restart Creator from
the desktop icon. It will recreate a fresh 2_0 userdir. Create a project - and
see if Javadoc Index Search gets restored. If that does not work for you, please give additional details such as type of project--is it a old migrated project from Creator EA? or earlier?

  • "Show Javadoc" not working in NetBeans 6.7 // JDK 1.6 on Mac OS 10.5

    Hi,
    I searched many sites (including forums.sun.com: see e.g. http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=753501)
-- still I cannot find a solution that would work for me.
Here is a full description - hopefully somebody has solved it on Mac and will help me...
    1) To reproduce, I select anything (say String) in NetBeans, ^-click and select "Show Javadoc": the result is a tiny gray message "*Cannot perform Show Javadoc here*".
    2) I have a Mac and Netbeans 6.7.1, installed java 1.6, it (seems to me) came without docs:

According to all major search engines, this problem seems to exist for years and is experienced by many.
    It is really frustrating.
    Please help!

    scphan,
thanks a lot for your reply! It is helpful! (although not "solved" - alas).
The thing still doesn't work: maybe I missed some magic trick?
If you bear with me, here is what I did:
    a) downloaded jdk-6u10-docs.zip
(from "Java SE Development Kit Documentation 6"
    -->
    https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/ViewFilteredProducts-SingleVariationTypeFilter)
    -- it was unzipped automatically by my Safari downloader, creating the "docs" directory);
    b) then I pointed the Netnbeans to this dir (it says "Add ZIP/Folder", so to my understanding the "dir" should work, only faster), --
-- still "Show Javadoc" results in "Cannot perform"... (:-.
    Anything I did terribly wrong?
Note that I stared at the http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp for a while before finding the "documentation" link.
Noticeable also that the page starts with "What Java Do I Need?" but doesn't answer that question.
Why does Sun make it so freaking hard for the beginners?..
Does it make sence to ship something without documentation?..
Why doesn't Apple distribution include it for 1.6 although it does for 1.5 and 1.4?..
Why do creators of Java not care that Java actually works out of the box, -- including (and that I think makes my question a Java question) in one of the two most popular Java IDEs?
(The last few sentences are mostly for flounder).

Marc, thanks fort your reply. The only reason I tried the older JCreator, and not the newer version, is because of system requirements. I do not have the required memory. So, after your response I said what the heck. I downloaded and tried to install the newer version. It started to install and hung at 29% processed on the progress bar. That's all she wrote. The prior JCreator at least installed it's developer IDE before it tried to install the AS. I guess the order of the install for the newer JCreator's is different. If you have read this thread you will see that I have tried for last year or so off and on to install the Application Server with no success. I have in the pass taken down MS's firewall but did not get any further. I forgot to do it this time. Maybe I should try one more time. I mean I do have GlassFish running . If JCreator supported that server I would not be worried about the AS.
I have no technical angle to define my problem. It just hangs. The old Watcom suite had at least debuggers so I could see where the hang is. The module..etc. Here I feel like a stupid user with a 'user friendly' install that does not work on my machine. frrustrating when I have three other servers installed and running on my machine. I specified my machine config in a prior response.

  • Help needed with evaluating Sun Studio Creator

I am evaluating Sun Studio Creator as a platform for developing JSF applications. I really like its WYSIWYG editor, but strugging with how I would fit it in my environment. I currently use a Maven generated EJB layer running on JBoss.
    1) Ideally I would like to package my EJBs and WAR into one EAR and deploy it on JBoss. Is this possible through the IDE? I would still like to keep my Maven scripts for building the EJB layer (basically I like Maven lot more than Ant and I am not willing to give up its functionality). How would I go about doing EJB development using Maven in parallel with front-end development using JSC?
    2) Does Sun Studio Creator somehow lock me into its framework? I see that the code it generates uses custom tags such as the Web UI tags. I have not seen any good documentation justifying why I should be using these custom tag libraries and framework - giving up my freedom to experiment with other approaches. For that matter, I was not able to find a "user guide" on the tag libraries at all - only the javadocs, which are more like reference material. Can someone point me in the right direction?
    3) If I wanted to use just the standard components specified in the JSF specification, which tool bars should I limit myself to? The "Standard" toolbar? Also does it mean that I will need to manually rip out the auto-generated elements such as Web UI tags, framework specific backing beans etc. Would a "seasoned" JSC user even think of using the tool in this way?
I would really appreciate any guidance you can give me on this topic.
    Thanks.

Before I forget, I want to pass on the following feedback from my evaluation. Hopefully some of these items can be addressed in the upcoming release. Please note that I am not a JSC power user, so some of the impressions were made during a very limited evaluation period.
    1) It seems that JSC was designed to allow only the use of its framework/components such as the Web UI components etc. It seems pretty hard NOT to use the JSC framework/components and introduce other frameworks such as Tiles. I would prefer if JSC took a more flexible approach of also supporting other ways in which people may want to develop JSF applications.
    2) Support for a robust page templating mechanism. I really don't know how to create large complex web sites without introducing something like Tiles.
    3) Native support for Maven. I am sure people know the goodness of Maven and I should not have to list its advantages. It would be really nice if I can just point to a Maven pom.xml file and build my project, instead of messing around with Ant scripts. This would also mean supporting nested Maven projects.
    4) Full support for packaging and deploying ear files. This means the ability to support EJB projects living side-by-side with Web projects.
    5) It was not clear from the tutorials whether the databound controls work only with databases or can I bind them to in-memory objects. It would be good to allow binding to data transfer objects received from the middle-tier rather that going directly at the database.

  • Creator using all of the CPU

    Hello,
I am running Creator version 2.1 on a Windows XP Professional machine. Whenever I open the design view, the CPU usage of my machine increases to 99% which is all allocated to the java.exe process created by running Creator. I noticed the following in my log file:
You are trying to access file: Authenticate.properties from the default package.

I also recognized a similar problem.
While working in Creator, my CPU suddenly started to swaet blood running on 100% load for any reason I couldn't figure out.
But I found out that my machine also almost out of RAM, so I added another GB of RAM and things went much better. I'm now working with a CPU of 3GHz (with HT) and 2 GB RAM, and I cannot recommend lower spec to work with Creator.
The second very important thing was, that my virus-scanner (mcAffee enterprise) seems to be very scary about java things and consumes quite a lot performance scanning around things that I know their now as good. So I excluded some of the major directories creator wors with from scanning, and that also did a good job.

  • Creator exits without warning!

  • Absolutely inaccurate behaviour  from javadoc tool

    Hi all,
I am trying for some time now to document my code with javadoc. This code works for quite some time now and is proved stable.
The problem I have is that I can not document the whole package or a few packages together. I am getting an error message on one of my java files. Documenting just that file works fine.
    The error messages are below:
    C:\Program Files\JDEV\jdev\mywork\DocGen\HtmlGen>javadoc -d c:\htm -sourcepath
    src datamanagement.docucreators
Loading source files for package datamanagement.docucreators...
    C:\Program Files\JDEV\jdev\mywork\DocGen\HtmlGen\src\datamanagement\docucreators
    \CalenderLister.java:25: '(' or '[' expected
    CalendarCreator creator = new CalendarCreator;
    ^
    C:\Program Files\JDEV\jdev\mywork\DocGen\HtmlGen\src\datamanagement\docucreators
    \CalenderLister.java:28: illegal start of expression
    if ()
    ^
    C:\Program Files\JDEV\jdev\mywork\DocGen\HtmlGen\src\datamanagement\docucreators
    \CalenderLister.java:28: ')' expected
    if ()

    \CalenderLister.java:29: illegal start of expression
    ^
    4 errors
These messages are absolutely inacurate. I don't even have such code on the showed lines.
Also documenting the same java file: CalendarLister.java works fine.
I hope someone knows anything about that.
    Thanks
    Georgi

Also documenting the same java file: CalendarLister.java works fine. You might be confusing CalendARLister.java with CalendERLister.java. I do see the bad code in CalenderLister.java

  • User comments in Javadoc

    L.S.,
Sometimes I feel the need to extend some existing javadoc with a note of my own because sometimes the existing javadoc is not very clear and I am unable to improve because it is from another vendor.
I think it would be nice if I could somehow add user notes to existing javadoc without altering the original generated HTML files.
    Please discuss.
    Sincerely,
    Patrick Holthuizen

Check out the -tag option. This lets you include custom tags of your owns design, or change the behavior of existing ones.

  • Error during generation of the WSDL:  BUILD FAILED java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com/sun/javadoc/Type

When I create an EJB Transport Business Service, after selecting the jar that has the EJB 2.1 artefacts (Remote, Home, etc) the oepe plugin fails and can't continue.
As I understand it seems that there is a problem with the classpath of ant build.xml  that oepe creates inside folder /tmp/alsbejbtransport/ to compile the bs and generate the wsdl. I checked if tools.jar is in the classpath (in eclipse) and is included, so I can't figure out wich is the problem.
I found this in Oracle, but not helps solve the problem:
    BEA-398120
Error: The WSDL for the typed transport endpoint could not be accessed.
    Description
There was a problem retrieving the WSDL from the typed transport service endpoint at the time of service registration

This is the the full stacktrace that shows eclipse.

  • Java API, problem with secondary keys using multi key creator

    Hi,
I'm developing an application that inserts a few 100k or so records into a Queue DB, then access them using one of four Hash SecondaryDatabases. Three of these secondary dbs use a SecondaryMultiKeyCreator to generate the keys, and one uses a SecondaryKeyCreator. As a test, I'm trying to iterate through each secondary key. When trying to iterate through the keys of any of the secondary databases that use a SecondaryMultiKeyCreator, I have problems. I'm attempting to iterate through the keys by:
1: creating a StoredMap of the SecondaryDatabase
2: getting a StoredKeySet from said map
3: getting a StoredIterator on said StoredKeySet
    4: iterate
The first call to StoredIterator.next() fails at my key binding (TupleBinding) because it is only receiving 2 bytes of data for the key, when it should be getting more, so an Exception is thrown. I suspected a problem with my SecondaryMultiKeyCreator, so I added some debug code to check the size of the DatabaseEntries it creates immediately before adding them to the results key Set. It checks out right. I also checked my key binding like so:
1: use binding to convert the key object to a DatabaseEntry
2: use binding to convert the created DatabaseEntry back to a key object
3: check to see if the old object contains the same data as the new one
    Everything checked out ok.
What it boils down to is this: my key creator is adding DatabaseEntries of the correct size to the results set, but when the keys are being read back later on, my key binding is only receiving 2 bytes of data. For the one SecondaryDatabase that doesn't use a SecondaryMultiKeyCreator, but just a SecondaryKeyCreator, there are no issues and I am able to iterate through its secondary keys as expected.
EDIT: New discovery: if I only add ONE DatabaseEntry to the results set in my SecondaryMultiKeyCreator, I am able to iterate through the keys as I would like to.
    Any ideas or suggestions?
    Thank you for your attention,
    -Justin

    Hi Justin,
Sorry about the delayed response here. I have created a patch that resolves the problem.
If you apply the patch to your 4.6.21 source tree, and then rebuild Berkeley DB, the improper behavior should be resolved.
    Regards,
    Alex

  • Satellite U400 Impossible to create recovery DVD with Recovery disc creator

    Hi,
I have a Satellite U400 (few years old), and I never created the recovery DVD.
Now I want to do it, but for some reasons, when I launch Toshiba recovery disc creator, nothing happens...
The partition with the recovery files is there, as well as the folder HDDRecovery. I did add some files to this partition, could this be the problem ?
    Thanks for your help.

It is big problem now if the Toshiba tool cannot find the files.
How it works you can read on http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?messageID=140985
    Check it out please.
What you can try now is to check if HDD recovery installation will start - http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD1303440001R01.htm but Im afraid the same problem will occurs again.
To be honest you should install Win7 32bit on this small Satellite notebook. It works perfectly. Forget original Vista OS, Win7 works better.

  • MS Access and Sun Java Studio Creator

I am new to the forum.
Having searched for the issue above I failed to find a way to connect between MS Access database and Creator.
However I came accross a thread in 2004 which suggested that Sun techs are working on a solution.
I wonder if such a solution has been found ?
If not I may have to convert my database to SQL to be able to use it with Creator or consider my purchase of Creator was a loss.
This may be a better long term but very sad for someone who is using Creator for developing purposes.
    I will value your help.

I also would find a driver for MS Access very useful. I currently have about 12 databases done in MS Access that we are trying to move over to something else. We are evaluating Creator for this and it would be useful if I could talk to the existing databases with it.
We could port the databases over to SQL server but then I have to load that onto my home computer because I do a lot of work there.
I read somewhere that it might be possible to use the JDBC-ODBC data bridge to read the access files but I am not sure how to set that up. I can find several 3rd party drivers but I woudl for a non-profit and there is never any money to buy stuff like that .

  • [installation] studio creator on Suse 10.1

    Hi there,
on my laptop (1,7 Ghz cpu, 1 Ghz ram), runs Suse 10.1(kernel Linux 2.6.16.13-4-default i686) and I'd like install studio creator wich is at moment on XP (and I'm not very happy about the performance).
    But looking at http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/sysreqs/index.jsp#04
it seems that it can only runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.
Did anyone try it on Suse, what will be the conseguence if I proceed anyway?
Thanks in advance for your reply.

Have you tried downloading and installing the latest HotFixes from the Update Center, on your window machine? The HotFixes have several performance improvement fixes.

  • Studio Creator installation problem with Fedora 5

    Hi,
I tried installing JCreator in Fedora core 5, but I get the problem concerning the graphical installation. I tried installing Jcreator in silent mode using the command line options -is:log log.txt silent and a sp file which sets the installDir and is.debug to 1 , however the installation does not complete, properly and it does not install the SunAppServer8 directory

I can't recall what they are, but I know that there are some libs that you need to install to get the Creator installation to complete OK on Fedora 5.
I think that I ended up using some libs from either Fedora 3 or 4 since there were no Fedora 5 versions available for the two (and again, I can't recall what they were) libs.
I do know that it is possible though as I have Creator on Fedora 5 right now.

  • DocFlex/Javadoc 1.5.6, a multi-format doclet development tool and more

DocFlex/Javadoc is both a multi-format Javadoc Doclet and a rapid doclet development tool, which allows easy creation of professional quality Java API documentation generated by Javadoc in various output formats.

    KEY FEATURES
    Template-driven doclet architecture
    - Actual doclets are created in the form of special templates interpreted by the DocFlex Doclet, which is the template interpreter / output generator wrapped in the form of a Javadoc Doclet.
    - The high quality graphic Template Designer allows you to visually design most of things, whose development was possible so far only by direct Java coding.
    - The templates are designed independently on a particular output format. All formatting is specified in some universal way using properties of template components. During the generation, it is rendered with the suitable features available in the selected output format.
    - The elaborated support of template parameters (including multivalued list parameters). The parameters are defined and accessed within templates to adjust dynamic properties of template components. Most of options previously used to control an ordinary doclet now simply become template parameters!
    - The possibility to call templates from one another. This feature (along with the template parameters) makes possible re-using the same templates for different tasks as well as organizing template libraries.
    Data processing
    - The entire Doclet API is represented in the form of a virtual XML document (called Doclet DSM), on which the designing and processing of all templates is based.
    - Sophisticated capabilities for data querying and sorting based on an extension of XPath.
    - Full support of new Java 5.0 language features: Generic Types, Enums, Annotations.
    - Simultaneous support of Java 1.4 and Java 5.
    Creating hyperlinks
    - Generation of an extensive network of hyperlinks interconnecting the whole documentation.
    - The hyperlinks can be generated in all output formats that support them (this currently includes HTML and RTF).
    - The universal way of defining documentation cross-links based on the link/target keys specified in templates.
    - In RTF, the cross-links can be generated in the form of page number references, which effectively makes them usable even in the printed documentation.
    - In HTML, the possibility of loading several frame windows from a single hyperlink at once.
Universal support of various formatting techniques
    - text formatting: fonts, colors, borders
    - paragraph formatting: margins, pagination control, borders, colors
    - border formatting: styles (solid, double, dashed, dotted), thickness, colors
    - tables: arbitrary cell layouts, borders, nested tables
    - lists: bulleted, numbered, delimited
    - document fields (RTF): page number, number of pages, TOC, etc.
    - page formatting: size, orientation, margins, headers/footers
    - formatting styles
    - rendering of embedded HTML, which means interpreting in non-HTML output formats (such as RTF) the HTML tags embedded in text data (e.g. documentation comments). Almost all HTML tags practically usable in doc-comments are supported.
    Inserting images
    - statically specified in templates
    - dynamically, obtained by <img> tags found in Java comments
    - supported image formats: GIF, PNG, JPG, WMF, EMF, BMP
    Output formats
    - HTML (both framed multi-file and single-file output)
    - RTF (version 1.6 - supported since Word 2000).
    - TXT (plain text), which may be particularly useful for various utilizations of the Java code information provided by the Doclet API generate XML files by it, or SQL files to import into a database).
    Standard Template Set
    - The ready-to-use Standard Template Set included in all editions of DocFlex/Javadoc allows you to immediately generate:
(*) The framed HTML Java API documentation similar to that generated by the standard Javadoc.
(*) The same documentation packed in a single HTML file.
(*) The unmatched quality RTF JavaDoc.
    - Special features supported by standard templates:
(*) Excluding classes/methods/fields by custom tags and annotations.
(*) Selective omitting of package qualifiers.
(*) Selective documenting of custom tags (similar to -tag option of Standard Doclet).
    - By modifying the standard templates, you can quickly customize the generated documentation according to your needs.
    Doclet GUI
    - Besides command line options, DocFlex Doclet supports an alternative user-friendly way to control the template-based doclets interactively -- the high quality Doclet GUI.
    - The Doclet GUI starts with the Generator Dialog, where you can specify all general settings (such as the main template, the output format and the output directory), start the generation, track its progress and stop at any moment you need.
    - The grid-tree-based Parameter Inspector invoked from the Generator Dialog for a selected template allows you to view the descriptions of all template parameters controlling the doclet and set their values according to the parameter data types.
    - The generator options specific for the selected output format can be set in the corresponding Format Option Inspector (also invoked from the Generator Dialog).
    - Once the generation is finished (or cancelled), you can start it again with different settings or a new main template without restarting the whole Javadoc.
    Integrations
    - With any system that runs Javadoc (in particular, see below)
    - Apache Ant
    - Apache Maven 2
    - Eclipse
For lots more information, see DocFlex/Javadoc homepage: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/]
    AVAILABILITY
    DocFlex/Javadoc comes in two editions:
    (1) The full edition called "DocFlex/Javadoc" as it is. This is commercial software, which includes all the implemented functionality.
    (2) The reduced freeware edition called "DocFlex/Doclet". It includes only the output generator and can be used as an interpretor of any custom templates. It also includes the standard template set, which allows you to instantly use it as an HTML doclet (similar to the standard one, however with some special features) plus an excellent quality RTF doclet.
Both editions are available for downloads on the page: [http://www.filigris.com/downloads/]
    THIS VERSION
    New features:
    - The template interpretor works 15-20% faster
    - Improvement of RTF output
    - Multi-valued (list) template parameters
    - Custom elements
    - Standard Templates: Selective documenting of custom tags (similar to -tag option of standard doclet)

    WHAT IS DOCFLEX?
DocFlex is an innovative technology for development of high quality template-driven documentation/report generators by any kind of data obtained from various software applications via the Java APIs they provide.
    MAIN CONCEPTS
The whole DocFlex technology is based on four generalizations:
    (1) The mapping of an entire Java API onto a virtual XML-like representation made of some elements and attributes so as to process any such a representation in a universal way using techniques borrowed from the field of XML, like XPath (or more precisely, a conceptual analogue of XPath with some extensions not present in it).
    (2) The abstract formatting concept based on four layouts (flow of text, flow of paragraphs or paragraph-like objects, tables and lists), which can be rendered in most modern document formats (e.g. HTML, RTF, XSL-FO etc.)
    (3) The automatic generation of hyperlinks (or their page number reference equivalents) by matching the sets of keys produced from certain natural properties of the things (entities) being documented and hyper-linked.
    (4) The representation of the object controlling structure of the output generator (made on the first three principles) in the form of a plain-text template with a possibility to create and edit such templates using a graphic Template Designer, which visualizes the controlling objects (now becoming template components) in a form resembling the output they will produce.
    OTHER APPLICATIONS
In fact, DocFlex/Javadoc is not the only application of DocFlex technology. The following is a summary of other DocFlex software:
    DocFlex/XML
The SDK and runtime environment for rapid development and execution of template-driven automatic documentation/report generators by any data obtained from XML files.
This is currently the most complex and advanced application of DocFlex technology. Actually, this tool can be considered a powerful alternative to XSLT. At least, it is definitely able to do what XSLT apparently not (for example, see “XSDDoc” below). We will publish a more detailed comparison “DocFlex/XML versus XSLT” with the next DocFlex/XML release, which is coming very soon.
    DocFlex/XML home page: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_xml/]
    DocFlex/XML | XSDDoc
A template set for DocFlex/XML that implements a high quality W3C XML Schema documentation generator in HTML and RTF output formats.
For more details, please see: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_xml/xsddoc/]
    DocFlex/XML | WSDLDoc
A similar template set for DocFlex/XML that will implement a high-end WSDL documentation generator.
This product is not released yet.
    DocFlex/Together
A template-driven documentation generator for [Borland Together|http://www.borland.com/us/products/together/] (which is a UML modeling tool).
This is the earliest application of DocFlex technology and probably the most beautiful one. It works only with Together Architect 1.x, which is now obsolete. Unfortunately, since Together 2005, Borland eliminated any open APIs (for unknown reasons). Because of this, further development of DocFlex/Together was impossible.
    DocFlex/Together home page: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_together/]
See also examples of the UML documentation generated with it: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_together/examples/]
The future DocFlex/UML is going to generate something like this as well.
    DocFlex/UML
A template-driven UML documentation generator based on [Eclipse EMF|http://www.eclipse.org/emf/]. This tool is in early development stage yet. In a sense, it will continue DocFlex/Together with the focus on integration with other UML tools that use Eclipse EMF.

Now, DocFlex/Javadoc v1.4 has been released specifically dedicated to Linux (Mac OS X) support:
(*) Some early bugs have been fixed, which prevented it working properly under Linux.
(*) A special RTF option was introduced to generate OpenOffice.org friendly RTF (see below)
(*) Improved support for external document viewers.
(*) Now, DocFlex/Javadoc software includes the shell script files prepared to quickly install and launch it under Linux
    New RTF option
A new RTF output option "Tune output for MS Word has been introduced. This option, actually, allows switching off that very tuning (which until now was the default mode) to produce an RTF friendly to open with other non MS Word applications, e.g. OpenOffice.org Writer under Linux.
