No more anti-spam filter or block list updates?

Our Exchange Server 2007 (Enterprise) was receiving these updates rather frequently until February 2nd. There was a connection error but then nothing. I just looked in the Microsoft update catalog and the server
is has the latest updates (compared against the Exchange console).
What gives? Did support stop? Or, when will the spam and block list updates resume? Our spam has increased dramatically since that date... I've been searching a lot but everything I find only talks about having
that service enabled, which it is.
TIA
Here are the latest versions I have installed:
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise Block List Updates v3.3.14529.029    (2/2/2015)
Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 Enterprise Anti-spam Filter Updates v3.3.14528.472    (1/29/2015)

Thank you for trying to help and offering that reply. I did try that originally. I've disabled and re-enabled both through the command line and through the management console. Everything shows that the updates
are off/on (as I make the change), indicating all the commands are working as they should.
Unfortunately, it seems there just aren't any updates. It doesn't make any sense. When I go to the link below, I don't see anything there beyond February
1st. And, I have all the updates through then (on the block/spam side) and I can receive manually and automatically all the updates for SBS 2008 in general since. It's just this one product feature not working/updating...
Is anybody getting updates for Exchange 2007 Enterprise?
Here's the link that's not showing any updates since February 1st, 2015:

    Hi Dave,
Following are the detailed steps to uninstall Anti-Spam:
Close the EMC (Exchange Management Console).
Open the PowerShell and navigate using the following path: "Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Scripts".
Run the "uninstall-AntispamAgents.ps1" script as shown in window (with ./ before the script name) below:
Note: You will be prompt to disable and then uninstall each agent of the Anti-spam system like the Connection filtering, content filter, Sender filtering etc.
Restart the "Microsoft Exchange Transport" service in order to apply configuration changes.
Open the Exchange Management Console, and on the Organization configuration list, select
Hub Transport. You will see that the "Anti-Spam" tab has been removed from the Hub Transport properties.
I suggest double check whether you have re-start the Transport service.

    My questions:
Is possible to configure an account to not to be filtered?
Can I do a rule in ORIG_MAIL_ACCESS with the domain (not address)? or there is another option for this?
    No.
It's so easy to "spoof" domain names, that it's really of no use to even try that.
One of the real weaknesses of using RBL is that some of them falsly post many domains. There are other issues, including performance.
You may want to have a look at another product to add onto your system, "SpamAssassin". It's free, open-source software that integrates right into your Messaging Server, and eliminates nearly 99% of the spam coming in. It can be configured to do something similar to RBL, use SPF, keep local databases, to WhiteLists, Black:Lists, etc.

  • I need a more effective spam filter

I've been using procmail and http://www.spambouncer.org/ to sort my mailing list emails and filter spam. But the above filters haven't been updated since April 16th, and a lot of stuff is getting through. My Apple Mail.app filter doesn't catch it, .mac doesn't filter it, etc. It is beginning to irk me, and I hate being irked.
I'd like to use something compatible with my current procmail filtering scheme, but am open to any suggestions. I run my own server.

    Bill,
Yes, you can, and manual training works. How to Train Bayes Without Logging In contains an example script - assumes standard Unix mboxes - to help you automate it.
I don't know of any plugins for Mail.app, but they could exist.
You can also create your own rules. There's an entire site dedicated to helping you find and create appropriate rules for SpamAssassin.

  • Is there no way to simply remove realplayer from the blocked list?

...My issue is someone disabled the realplayer extension / addon /
plug in for some ungodly reasoning due to some block list.
I'm over here cussing a blue streak at this choice of blocking,
especially when I cant goto my "add ons" area and simply click
"options/ turn on / enable etc" and what have you. Everything is greyed out thanks to an annoying block list filter.
Which, from my understanding doesnt even apply to my version of firefox. I have had realplayer on here for YEARS and it has never once caused me any problems.
And now because some one decides it causes issues with firefox version whatever, they're going to block it on a master block list for some reasoning? Tch.
Is there NO WAY to simply remove realplayer from this said block list? I know I can go into about;config and disable the -whole- list, which I dont want to do.
Cant someone make this thing a little more user friendly with the block list? Put some damn check boxes next to it so I can filter what I want.
And if someone tells me to update something or another... -twitch-

  • Why does the pop-up notifications list emails caught by spam filter as well as any outbound message I am authoring?

I had noticed long ago that the little box that shows up for a few seconds when new messages arrive also includes messages that went to the spam folder instead of just new messages to my inbox. But recently I noticed that when I am writing a new email I am sending to someone else, when that box pops up, it will list the email I am creating from scratch to send out as if it is one of the new emails I received.
Can this be changed to only list new, relevant (messages that stay in the inbox and not moved to spam) and also not list messages I am authoring but just haven't sent yet?
Or, can this notification be turned off completely? I don't pay attention to it anyway because I can't trust what is in it anyway.

All new mail is relevant until you decide it is not. in the case of IMAP mail accounts drafts saves v(auto save ever 5 minutes) are also "new mail" as it is new to the server. I just turn the dialog off. It annoys and distract me from more important stuff.

  • Messages released from spam filter do not appear in mailbox IF released more than once.

PLEASE HELP!! We use the Mailfoundry 2100 spam filter appliance in our organization. We are looking at alternatives for how we handle messages that this unit classifies as spam. We are running Exchange 2010 SP3 next inline to the Mailfoundry.
Here is the issue. When a message is quarantined on the spam filter, the recipient is notified and given the option to release the message so that it comes into their mailbox. That works fine... THE FIRST TIME they do it.
If the same user, for any reason needs to go back and release the same message again, it DOES NOT make it to their mailbox.
Here is the catch. Every time the message is released, it is making it to the Journaling Mailbox.
So to clarify what's happening, if I release a message from our spam filter for the second time, the message shows up again in the journaling mailbox, but it DOES NOT show up in my mailbox. It works the first time, but after that, it does not.
I have used all of the Exchange Toolbox options to try to find the issue, but to this point nothing has helped. I hoping some of you Exchange Guru's can help me out here.
    Chris V

I have looked at the logs and here is the only difference I see. I must add that you should read each entry from the bottom to the top. If reading it this way, you will see that the second line is missing the name of the server on the failed (2nd) message
    release. Any ideas?
Here is another one I released 3 times.

  • Exchange 2013 Realtime Block List is Kind of Working

    Hi Everyone.
I've been setting up a RBL in exchange 2013 using zen.spamhaus.org. The IPBlockListProviders require that the connection filtering agent be enabled. By default when running the installantispamagents.ps1, this script will not install that connection filtering
agent because it only installs on an "edge" server and since exchange 2013 did away with the "edge" role, it did not get installed. I had to modify the script so it installed that connection filtering agent with all the other anti-spam agents. (We are a one
exchange server shop so the CAS and Mailbox roles are on one box.)
I'm having a very weird response. The RBL list works and when I get a test email sent to me using the service at '[email protected]', I can see the Reject message getting sent back out in the agent logs and the SMTP logs. This is the message
I see in the logs. Notice that the originating IP and the RBL triggering IP are the same: 192.203.178.107.

This is a correct message and that IP address matches the Test RBL IP address spamhaus has blacklisted to check RBL filters. The IP address is added dynamically to the message with a variable in the reject message settings and should list the IP address
of the SMTP server that triggered the RBL hit.
The VERY strange thing is when I trigger the RBL with the test message, exchange rejects all incoming mail for my account from any source for several minutes and rejects with that same message. I send a test message from my google account and I can clearly
see in the agent log that the SMTP connection is coming from a google IP but it still rejects and issues the message that was sent in response to my test using the nelson-'[email protected]'
This is the reject message sent to my google account after I sent myself an email following the RBL test message. Notice that the originating IP is a google IP and does not match the IP the the reject message claims the message came from. The log
shows the originating IP as 74.125.82.179 (A google IP) but im rejecting the message because 192.203.178.107 is blocked??? The message didn't come from that IP. :

After a couple minutes, it clears up and I can get mail again. I just can not for the life of me figure out why all messages are rejected for several minutes after I have an RBL hit and the reject message is always referencing the the SMTP transaction
that originally triggered the hit. Which in this case, is blocking my Gmail message thinking its coming forom the crynwr.com test even when the smtp logs show a completely different SMTP originating IP and Connection.

When you install the Antispam agents on Exchange 2013 servers you get all of them installed like you did for previous versions of Exchange server. most of them will get installed on the mailbox role but not the Connection filtering agent aka. RBL, DNS Block
    List etc.
The powershell script: install-AntispamAgents.ps1 will look for which server role is installed and will not install Connection filtering if the server hold the mailbox role. This is understandable since SMTP connection should come in from the CAS server
and then the original sending IP will not be show since CAS do Source-NAT. So the logic would be to install the connection filtering agent on CAS but the install script will not let you do that either. Connection Filtering will only install on Edge role.
I can only speculate why this is, but either Microsoft want it to be like this or they have found some trouble with the Connection Filtering Agent running on CAS.
I figured I will give this a try anyway, and here is how you get it to work.
Start Exchange Management Shell as administrator.
    Change Directory to scripts folder.
    cd $exscripts
    Install the agent.
Install-TransportAgent -Name "Connection Filtering Agent" -TransportService FrontEnd -TransportAgentFactory "Microsoft.Exchange.Transport.Agent.ConnectionFiltering.ConnectionFilteringAgentFactory" -AssemblyPath "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange
    Server\V15\TransportRoles\agents\Hygiene\Microsoft.Exchange.Transport.Agent.Hygiene.dll"
If you have multiple agents running on the frontend transport you must set them in the correct order with the priority parameter
Add a IPBlocklistprovider of your choice
    Add-IPBlockListProvider -Name zen.spamhaus.org -LookupDomain zen.spamhaus.org -AnyMatch $true -Enabled $true
You can add more than one provider if you like. If you Don’t provide a custom response it will be “Recipient not authorized, your IP has been found on a block list”
    Enable the agent
Enable-TransportAgent -TransportService FrontEnd -Identity "Connection Filtering Agent"
    Restart FrontEnd transport service
    Restart-Service MSExchangeFrontEndTransport
Now the agent should be live and kicking. Logging for the frontend agent is here
    “C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\FrontEnd\AgentLog” instead of the directory for the backend transport “C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V15\TransportRoles\Logs\Hub\AgentLog”
Since the script don’t install the Connection filtering agent on CAS it is probably unsupported to install the agent manually, but I had it running for months without any problem so make your own judgment.

  • Exchange 2010. Unable to access block list IP's in Hub Transport Service.

Just started today as I was getting ready to add an IP address to the IPBlock list.  Box pops up that says 'failed to enable key constraints.  One or more rows contain values violating non-null, unique or foreign-key constraints.' The only
thing I have seen mentioned running the Get-IPBlockListEntry command because there was a duplicate IP address in the list.  When I ran the command, there were 600+ entries, but I can only read the last 350 of them.  There are no duplicates however
in the entries I can see.
    My questions are:
is there a hard limit to how many ip addresses can be added into the block IP list  box?
Is there a  command that would search for duplicate addresses, and if not, is there another way to take care of the issue besides uninstalling and reinstalling the exchange anti spam agent?
How do I get to see the first 250 entries in the results from the exchange management shell?
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
Please refer to the following steps to reinstall anti spam agent:
    1. Open EMS, type:
    cd "c:\program files\Microsoft\exchange server\v14\scripts"
    ./uninstall-antispamagentss.ps1
    2. Restart the Exchange transport service.
    3. Go back to EMS, type:
    ./install-antispamagent.ps1
    4. Restart the Exchange transport service.
If the problem still happens, please restart Exchange hub server
    Thanks.

  • Spam filter never learns to filter most addresses

Repeatedly, day after day, I have marked emails from certain addresses as spam but the next day they are back in my inbox.  My Verizon Yahoo account learned these immediately.  I hate wading through more spam than necessary.  Why is the spam filter not working properly yet?

You might have better luck setting up a filter and/or adding the address(es) to your Blocked Senders list. The Spam Detector doesn't block based on sender, but on content of the message.

    Hello,
I am having an issue with the anti-spam. I have a 2010 exchange and forefront for exchange version 11.0.713.0. We have been just using filter lists to identify spam and then send them to a junk-mail box. I was looking through he Forefront settings and enabled
the anti-spam and all I would get is a loading bar then eventually it will error out and close. I was able to disable it via command line but now my filter lists are not stopping the spam anymore. I just need one of the methods to work the users are getting
a lot more spam since all this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
What's the error you encountered? Could you please upload a screenshot?
Any changes that you make to the antispam settings with the user interface will not work unless antispam functionality is enabled successfully.
Have you tried to use command line to enable spam filtering?

If you have your SPAM Detector ON, it will sift and catch unsolicited emails sent to your email account and either present them in the SPAM Detector folder or delete them. (Note: You can adjust your SPAM Detector settings in the Settings/Email Settings tab within Message Center.)
Furthermore, if there are emails you deem as SPAM, you can “Mark as SPAM” by selecting the email from your email inbox list view and select SPAM icon from top menu bar. It will put the email in your SPAM Detector folder and send an email to the VZ Abuse team and third party vendor to evaluate. If it is deemed SPAM, SPAM Detector definitions/rules will be updated.
Please note that marking email as SPAM does not add the email to the Blocked Senders list. Furthermore, SPAMMERs rarely use the same email address more than once to send SPAM.
With that said, You should start doing the following:
You- should start reporting the spam with a spam button in the webmail client
For-ward spam emails that were not caught to [email protected]
Set your e-mail filter. An e-mail filter and spam blocking software are absolutely critical. Set these security measures to update automatically to ensure that you are protected from the latest threats.
NEVER reply to spam. Replying to spam, even to "unsubscribe," could set you up for more spam.
Protect your e-mail address and instant message ID. If you must post this information online, set up two identities, one for real use and one for online activities.
Be wary of e-mail attachments. Change the settings on your e-mail program so that images and attachments are not opened automatically. Only open attachments from users known to you.
Watch out for phishing scams. Don't click on links in e-mails or instant messages unless the sender is known to you. Instead, open a separate web browser and visit the site directly.
Create smart and strong passwords. Use a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols.
Never enter your personal information in a pop-up window. You may not be able to tell when a scammer has hijacked a seemingly legitimate site.
Don't fill out online surveys, or register for contests or fan clubs. These may be fronts for spammers trying to collect your e-mail address

  • Spam and Virus Blocker EOL

Can anyone confirm that come December 31, 2015 the SPAM and VIRUS Blocker will become a brick with no more updates and no ability to to filter SPAM and Viruses?
Very troubling if true.  Money spent on a hardware platform just to have it go EOL a couple of years later.

Which model appliance do you have?  If you have a "Blocker" which is the small business platform - EOL is listed actually 12/2011.
If you have a C-series, or larger... EOL information for hardware is based here:

EOL information for AsyncOS revisions specific is based here:

  • Spam filter stripping SPF record

Hello, we are using exchange online protection for spam filtering before anything gets to the on premise sonicwall spam filter. When messages do get through, the sonicwalll is marking some of them as SPF failure so they are being blocked. We never had this
    issue before on legit messages.
Is there something in EOP that strips SPF records?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I think the mechanisms of Anti-Spam of EOP and SPF are different:
SPF record is a text (TXT) record that helps prevent spoofing and phishing by verifying the domain name.
Anti-spam feature in EOP uses Content Filtering policy. For more referernce:
