Nokia x6 not always connecting to WLAN

When I have enabled my WLAN and try to connect an internet based app or open my browser the WLAN isn't always the connection that the phone chooses to connect with.  Is there anyway I can force this?  Also, the WLAN connection randomly drops when I connect and back out to the home screen of the phone to open, say, my Facebook app on the shortcuts bar.  Any reason for this?

Go to Solution.

Thanks for your reply - how do I do that then?  I've looked at my access point settings and I've not seen options to the things you described.  I'm looking in Settings>Connectivity>Destinations.  I cannot specifically set an access point for Facebook for example.
My internet access points are set to always ask but when I open facebook it always defaults to my pay as you go access point.  Even when the WLAN is on.  I never get asked for an option to which access point I'd like to connect to.

  • Old Nokia 7610 Supernova always connected email

Is there a way that allows Nokia 7610 Supernova (or all other phones with the same firmware) to use ALWAYS CONNECTED email such as Gmail and not to terminate the connection after 10-15 mins........... pls help!

    Hi velizarcho12345,
You need to configure the Internet settings on your phone. To define how to use the service, select Menu > Settings > Connectivity > Packet data > Packet data conn. and from the following options select Always online so that it will  automatically connect to a packet data network when you switch the phone on. This also applies to phone applications that require Internet connection like email.

  • Backing up an external HD that's not always connected?

I just bought a Time Capsule to backup my MacBook and an external HD. I've set up Time Machine to backup the MacBook and external HD. But the external HD isn't always connected to my MacBook. When Time Machine runs its hourly backups, if at that moment the external HD is not connected, it backs up just the contents of my MacBook.
I've just started this process, rather than learn by trial and error I'm hoping some of you have already done something similar and can share your experience. I have a couple of concerns:
    1) If Time Machine backs up my MacBook (MB) and external hard drive (EHD) and then, on a second run, with the EHD disconnected, backs up only the MB, the next time a backup runs while the EHD is connected, will it have to start all over again copying all of the contents of the EHD? Or can it recognize the EHD content which is unchanged from the last time it did a backup with the EHD connected?
    2) When Time Machine runs out of space and starts deleting old backups, is there a risk that this way I could lose a backup copy of the EHD? For example suppose Time Machine backs up my MB and EHD. Then say for a couple of weeks I don't connect the EHD and meanwhile TM keeps doing backups and runs out of space. When it throws out the oldest backups, if none of the more recent ones contain data from my EHD, do I thereby lose that backup data?
Apologies in advance if this question has already been answered elsewhere. I've tried searching for answers but all my searches on "time machine external hard drive" just turn up results about using TM to back up to an external HD or else talk about what format a drive needs to be in order to get backed up via TM.
p.s. I use the EHD to store, among other things, my iTunes library. So in practice I rarely go more than a day of using the MacBook without turning on the EHD. Still, I'd like to understand how TM manages backing up of drives that aren't always available.
    Thanks,

it's supposed to be smart and recognize the old backups and not redo the entire backup of the EHD in such situation. but sometimes TM does not do that for whatever reasons (=bugs). hopefully it won't affect you.

yes, in that scenario you will loose all backups of the EHD. that's why you need to make sure that your TM drive is big enough and has plenty of space to store incremental backups so that this is unlikely to happen. and back up the external regularly.

  • E61i - will not auto-connect to WLAN for SIP

Although my SIP client is set to "always on," the phone will not connect to a WLAN network. If I go into the SIP profile settings, change it to "as needed," then change it back, the phone will prompt me and connect.
Does everyone else's E61i behave this way? I don't have a sim card in the phone right now... do you think that could be it?
I have my Gizmo Project account set up and have made and received calls successfully, even with my Grandcentral account.
    Thanks very much for reading.

  • Not always connecting to internet on command but can always recieve emails

I have a curve 8330 on the Altell/Verizon network and for some odd reason when I try to connect to the internet it won't always oblige, it will connect and work fine, then no more than 5 minutes later it won't connect for about another ten minutes, yet I'm always able to recieve emails, even when it won't connect to the internet. It's always 1X and not 1x, and I've tried all the simple fixes like a battery pull etc. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Since you are only getting 1X, I would suggest you contact VZW for support...something is not right. 1X means that everything is going through the voice network...which can include internet access, but it will be slow and flaky. EV will give you the power of the data network...but VZW needs to help you figure out why you are not getting that.

  • Wireless Network Does Not Always Connect Successfully on HP ENVY 5644

Just purchased a new HP ENVY 5644 device to replace an existing my HP Photosmart C4380. Powered the new device on for the first time and ran through the initial setup using the integrated touchscreen. Everything seemed to go both easily and smoothly, without any errors and even connected to my home wireless network on the first attempt.
I next tested both printing and scanning features, each of which provided extremely pleasing results and good performance over the wireless network.
Unfortunately, this is where my happy story ends and the trouble begins!
Having initially setup the device in a temporary location, I correctly powered down in preparation of relocating it to its final resting position. Although this was to be in a different room of the house, it was in fact closer to the wireless network router itself. In reality, we are talking a very negligible distance as the 2 rooms are actually back to back to one another. So now with it in the new position and connected to a power outlet, I switched the device on once again. The device powers up and the blue LED indicator which signifies the wireless connection status, continuously flashes blue rather than a steady solid blue. The flashing blue indicates that the device cannot establish a wireless network connection. If I use the touchscreen to investigate the issue I find that there appears to be an Authentication Problem and the message details are Incorrect wireless password (WPA) entered.
Why has this happened? Nothing has changed, all I did is move the printer into another room!
Believing what the touchscreen tells me, I decided to run the Wireless Setup Wizard once more to affirm the wireless network settings. As expected, it manages to find my home wireless network without any issues and then requests that the password key is entered. I therefore enter this correctly and press apply. It is at this point that the device attempts to make a connection to the network, which unfortunately fails, returning the above error message. However, I know that I entered the password correctly, in fact there is an option to show the password you have entered prior to attempting the connection, which upon checking confirms that the password I entered is the correct one!
So why does it not connect?
I have tried switching the wireless feature on and off several times via the touchscreen interface but this did not resolve the issue. The only way to get the wireless connection back online is to keep switching the device on and off again until the wireless LED indicator stays on solid blue. For no apparent reason, the wireless connection seems to have a mind of its own, only successfully connecting to my wireless network when it wishes to!
I do not have any issues with the numerous other wireless network devices I have in my home, from multiple manufacturers and even located in other multiple rooms of the home. I know my wireless network is good and I know my wireless password like the back of my own hand, so there is no chance of this being incorrect. This is purely a problem for the HP ENVY 5644 device itself, which can be confirmed by the fact that if I switch it off and on again, it might decide to make a successful connection even though I did nothing to its own network configuration nor to my own wireless network configuration itself.
Wondering whether or not it might be some obscure incompatibility between my wireless router and the HP ENVY 5644, I tested the device with another spare router that I have, which was also from a different manufacturer but sadly the result was the same, the HP ENVY 5644 only connected when it wanted to and would only establish the connection to the wireless network upon switching on the device. If the connection fails, it will never connect to the network unless you switch it off and then back on again, which might even require to be attempted several times before successful. Once connected, it appears to remain connected and then functions really well.
This behaviour is not acceptable and I’m sure this can’t be too healthy for the device itself to be switched on and off again in such short cycles. Otherwise, on the whole, as I said earlier, I am very happy with the product.
Can someone at HP tell me why this is happening or suggest what else I need to look for or consider.

Spoke with HP engineer the other day. I explained what was happening and they suggested doing a factory reset and then setting the IP address manually rather than using the DHCP of my home wireless router.
I wasn't too happy about that as everything was setup nicely and working, with the exception of the WiFi not reconnecting on every power on. I had also gone one better in fact, by adding a DHCP reservation within my router using the MAC address of the printer. This in effect is the best of both worlds as the printer will be given the same IP address by the router every time it requests one.
We agreed to leave things as they stand rather than factory reset the printer and that I would now power off the printer everyday. For the past 4 days, the printer has reconnected to the WiFi upon every power on. This is great news.
I have a call scheduled with HP in a few days time to discuss how things have been going. If all continues as is, it would appear than specifying a DHCP reservation in the wireless router resolves the issue. Whilst I await the next call with HP, I am continuing to power on and off the printer on a daily basis.

  • ITunes library on external hard drive that nots always connected.....

    Can anyone help please?
I have a laptop running Win XP and i have the latest version of itunes. I want to keep all my music on an external hard drive because i can't fit it on the laptop. This in itself isnt a problem - i have all the files on the external HDD and have set iTunes up and everything is fine HOWEVER because i have a laptop, i'm not going to lug my external drive with me everywhere. So i am getting problems where when i do plug the external drive in and run iTunes - it comes up with question marks against EVERYTHING and i have to effectively add the library file again. Surely there is some other way round this?! can i not keep all my music on the external drive then just connect when i need to? why is itunes not happy with this? i dont use itunes unless i am connected to the external drive.
    Many thanks for any help!

As long as you don't launch iTunes until after the external hard drive is mounted, you shouldn't have a problem. I've been using such a set up for years.

  • Adapter not always connecting?

I got my PB in April and have a question. Sometimes when I plug the power adapter connector into my PB, the green/amber light does NOT come on. I wiggle the connector a bit; then the green light comes on followed by the amber. Do you others have this condition? Is this "normal"? Or is it that I have either a bad adaptor plug or a bad recepticle in my PB?

    Hi,
I dealt with this problem for a while. I think it's caused by really hot connections.
Fix: Unplug from the wall! Use an ear bud (that's what they call them here in Australia) to clean between the centre pin and the inside of the outer ring. You'll have to pull most of the wooly stuff off, but it will be a snug fit.
Once you get all the black gunk out of there, use some light oil like sewing machine oil to clean it further with a new ear bud again.
Finally, lube it up a little with some more oil. I think there's special contact grease you can buy for this sort of thing. Like the stuff they used to supply with Tamiya cars' speed controllers....
I'm not responsible if you wreck anytyhing, but this has worked for me and I clean it out again every 3-4 months.
Let me know how you go.

  • Internet Services Are Not Always Connected.. Help!

I have a Blackberry Curve 8520 with T-Mobile unlimited internet and Blackberry services.
Untill about 2/3 weeks ago I had the blackberry for about 2 months and was working perfectly, however now it's started to have some problems with internet services.
The problem is that most of the time it just won't connect to the internet anymore. Things like Whatsapp, Googlemail, The Blackberry Store, Browser, just dont work. Yet sometimes they do. For example with whatsapp, it will suddenly stop sending/recieving messages and then recieve them hours later. BBM seems to be fairly consistent however.. but is just really slow sometimes.
Anyone know what the problem could be?
    Any help appreciated! Thanks

AKrev, have you rebooted the device lately?
Do a simple reboot on the BlackBerry in this manner: With the BlackBerry device POWERED ON, remove the battery for a minute, and then reinsert the battery to reboot. A reboot in this manner is prescribed for most glitches and operating system errors, and you will lose no data on the device doing this.

  • Z10 not always connecting to mybluetooth Parrot V5.25c car kit

Please can someone advise if there is a BB Z10 software upgrade to connect to Parrot V5.25C and V5.21C car kits. My Curve and Bold 9800 never had an issue with either, but Z10 sometimes wil connect but mostly doesn't? Please advise how to resolve this issue

    Hello GlennCZA,
Thank you for your question regarding connecting your BlackBerry Z10 smartphone to your car kit.
Have you tried deleting and recreating the Bluetooth pairing profile? Is the issue stricly with the initial connection? Does the connection drop once connected?

  • NOKIA N8 - Unable to connect - WLAN Network not fo...

also for NOKIA N8 THE SAME PROBLEM: Unable to connect - WLAN Network not found;I see my network in the wlan list (Tthe state is "knowed") but when i try to connect to it,i read: Unable to connect-wlan network not found;i tryed with: mac filter on/off,dhcp on/of,wep protection on/off,firewall router on/off,power saving in the phone on/off, but the problem is the same ever!..Niklas Savander,..where you are?..nokia is back?..but with the same problems!

Well, I seem to have issues with WLAN as well.
When I am approx. 10metres away from my Router, the N8 doesn't connect. However, I can connect to WLAN using my Nokia N900, Nokia E52 and my Netbook (Asus EEE1005HA). This is a N-router with standard settings. I have tried changing, the channels etc. but it doesn't resolve the problem.
So is this a problem with the Nokia N8? I mean, all my other wireless devices work fine. I even tried changing the Wireless Interface type from N/B/G, to B/G but as I said before, the problem is still there.
Hopefully this problem can be sorted with a software update, that is if the N8 finds it difficult to connect to Wireless Internet.
P.S.: Tthere is another thread reporting similar problems. Here is the link.

  • After Ana WLAN not auto connecting

After I upgraded to Anna (N8/Slovenia) a lot of Nokia applications can not connect to the Internet automatically anymore.
My setup for "Data use in home country" is Always ask (or WLAN only) as I don't have any data plans with my provider. Also I set WLAN scanning to OFF. Then I try to access internet with Nokia browser and I get "Unable to connect" error. The same goes for Ovi Store, Here and Now, Ovi Daily App and some other Nokia applications. The only way to get it working is if I manually connect to the WLAN before using those applications.
At the same time other applications work as expected, for example I can browse internet with Opera Mini, connect with Skype, Fring, Sports Tracker, Exchanger and others. They ask me to connect to the WLAN or  when starting up.
Before the upgrade all this worked.

Mine is the same...... No auto connect to wlan, I have to connect manual first.
Also I cannot connect via any of my data plan settings !!! Im not a happy man
Is there a fix for this ??    Please help

  • Nokia C7 - Problem with VPN Connection over WLAN

    Hello,
today I installed Nokia VPN Client 44.01(5) for Belle.
Before this update I used the following configuration: I set two SIP-profiles up and for each profile a own VPN-connection. One for connecting over radio and one for connecting over WLAN or hotspots.
So over all I had three kinds of connections or connection groups to choose: "Internet" with the radio and home wlan connections, "Intranet" for the VPN-connection over radio and "Intranet over WLAN" for VPN-connections over other WLANs.
The advantage of this configuration was that I could use the SIP-profile depending on my location and the phone had not to use the "standard" VPN-connection ("Intranet") over radio.
Now after the update I have the problem that I can't connect to my VPN over WLAN at all. Not with the SIP profile and not manually over the internet browser. There is always the notification "Connection Problem".
I tried also to put the "VPN over WLAN access point" from the "Intranet over WLAN"-group to the "Intranet"-group and gave it the first priority, but that doesn't helped too.
Does someone of you had or have the same kind of problem or otherwise has any clue about that?
Any help is very much appreciated!
Thank you in advance! I hope that I described my problem clearly.
