Noodle, FTP install didnt work

With Noodle final, I choose FTP as the install method with the base.iso, it went ot the network part and said it couldn't find dhpcd. I rebooted and installed via cd, then pacman'd the rest. This is less a post than a bug report, but I'm not smart enough to figure out how to submit a bug report![/search]

The following worked fine for me :
Before launching /arch/setup, I first load the relevant kernel module (e1000.ko in my case) :
# modprobe e1000
Issue :
# lsmod
to check the module is correctly inserted.
Check which is which using ifconfig :
# ifconfig -a
Knowing the MAC address for the NIC, you'll be able to tell whether it is eth0, eth1... you want to configure.
Then I manually configure the network card using DHCP. Browsing the CD directories will show you that dhcpcd lives in /usr/bin :
# /usr/bin/dhcpcd eth1
At this moment I usually frantically check my router LEDs. Seeing them blink is relieving...
Yout might want to check a last time before starting the setup :
# ifconfig eth1
You should see your IP address, gateway, etc properly configured.
Then, go :
# /arch/setup
You now can safely choose FTP installation, car carefully avoid "Configure Network", as it's buggy and you've just done it right.
Oddly, my NIC is known as eth1 by the install CD (another device appears on as eth0, with a MAC address much longer than usual), but I noticed that after the reboot, it is known as eth0, so my advice would be not to tinker with /etc/rc.conf network parameters before rebooting.

Help! Final Cut Pro wont Open, I tried to un install and re install but it still didnt work!

I have a Final Cut Pro Express from 2006 and all was working fine untill i got an external hard drive and moved most of my projects over there. i tried moving them back to no avail and tried uninstalling and reinstalling final cut and it didnt work! Anyone have any advice on what I can do???

I disagree an uninstall-install is going to do anything for you. "Won't work" and "to no avail" don't help us speculate on what's wrong with your system. Moving projects should not have caused any issues at all so what you probably really mean is that you moved your media or maybe moved your ssytem or the apps folder or you tried to move FCP. All really bad ideas.

I bought my macbook pro 13" and i installed win(7 64bit) and the dvd of bootcamp came with my notebook and i installed it sucessfully but now i want to install win 8(64 bit) and i did but unfortunatley that dvd of bootcamp didnt work what should i do hlp?

If Join was on then your home wi-fi must be set to Non-Broadcast. If you did not set this up (maybe your provider did) then you will need to find the Network Name they used, and any password they used. The SSID is Security Set ID and to see more try http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSID . Basically it is the name used to identify your router/network. A lot of times the installer will leave it set as LinkSys, or Broadcom or whatever the manufacturer set it as for default. Your best bet is to get whoever installed it to walk you through how they set it up, giving you id's and passwords so you can get in. HOWEVER, if you are not comfortable with this (if you set security wrong, etc.) you would be well ahead of the game to hire a local computer tech (networking) to get this working for you. You can also contact the vendor of your router and get help (if it is still in warranty), or at least get copies of the manuals as pdf files. Sorry I can't give you more help, I hope this gives you an idea where to go from here to find more.

How to get the FTP clients to work?

This is something that (to me at least) should be trivial but I just can't
get it to work at all.

I've tried several GUI clients as well as the terminal FTP command and they
all seem to get stuck entering passive mode - according to the log entries
they send the command.... And then nothing or a timeout, the following is
from the terminal FTP command:

In my System Preferences -> Network panel in the Proxies tab, I have the
"use Passive FTP mode (PASV) checked.
I also have checked the FTP firewall option (but I think that is only if I'm
acting as an FTP server).
I am connected to the internet via a Netgear wireless router.
I also have an old Windows laptop that also uses the same wireless router
and it can FTP quite happily!!!!!
Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I've tried turning the firewall off but this does not appear to make any difference(*). Also, I have Parallels installed and I'm sharing the internet connection with this (even though Parallels itself is not currently running). Turning this sharing off doesn't seem to change anything either.
I have noticed some entries in the ifpw.log file that coincide with some of the ftp actions. Given the following terminal session:

which makes sense as the system tries to go for an active transfer.
(*) Actually, while I've been writing this, I've been playing on the terminal as well. I've found the combination of:
1) turning off the firewall
2) starting ftp
3) issuing the 'passive' command to turn off passive mode
4) issuing 'ls' etc. works
Looks like I've not been waiting long enough for the ftp client to get sick of trying the passive transfer and switching to an active one with the firewakk turned off!
Still doesn't answer the question - why does passive mode not work?

[SOLVED] FTP install (in MS Virtual PC 2007)

Hi all,
I'm new to Archlinux, coming from Debian and Ubuntu distros.
I'm attempting to install Archlinux in an MS Virtual PC 2007 VM at my work. Everything seems to have gone fine so far until I get to select my packages. It says on any server I choose, "Error fetching package list from server". The first step "Configure Network" seemed to go fine, using DHCP. I moved to another console (Alt-F4) and checked my rc.conf settings. Under "Networking" I have:
lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
eth0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(lo !eth0)
When I try the command ifconfig it shows all my networking info, which looks fine to me. When I ping google.com it returns, "ping: unknown host google.com" which would mean my network isn't working. I tried restarting the networking daemon with "/etc/rc.d/network restart" and it didn't help.
I wonder if it's because it's in a VM? Or should I not do the FTP install? Or is there something missing in my rc.conf?

Hmm, I'm not sure about DNS.
I can ping the rounter fine.
I setup a "static ip" entry in rc.conf. So my config looks like:
lo="lo 127.0.0.1"
eth0="eth0 192.168.1.116 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255"
INTERFACES=(lo eth0)
gateway="default gw 192.168.1.1"
ROUTES=(gateway)
I made sure 192.168.1.116 wasn't already being used by pinging it on my host computer.
Restarting the network daemon and pinging google.com still results with packet loss. I wonder if it's something to do with my works network configuration. I'll try this again when I get home.

Error~ modify the JRE_LOCATION in oraparam.ini ,it didnt work

my OS is RHEL5 ,and the oracle database is 10g2
my java home is /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_12, so i modefied the JRE_LOCATION to /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_12/jre in oraparam.ini .
then i run ./runinstaller , there is an error says: error in writing to the /tmp/Orainstall.... directory ,and ensure that the directory is writable and has atleast 60MB space . installation cannot continue
but i changed the permission of tmp to 777, it didnt work.and there are enough disk space too!
something strange is when i use -jreLoc parameter ,it worked very well.
./runInstaller -jreLoc /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_12/jre
I delete the JRE_LOCATION from the file oraparam.ini, then run the ./runInstaller command , it prompt me to specified a JRE_LOCATION ,
at this occasion ,i enterd: /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_12/jre , this workes too...

i need to install weblogic and oracle client on HP BL870c server 64bit itanium~. The OS is RHEL5
in order to install weblogic and i use jrockit ,the jre in the jrockit is 1.5 ,this works good~
then i install oracle client on the server , when i startup OUI use : ./runInstaller

I´m using premiere Elements 12 on windows 8. I bought the CD one year ago and install them. All perfekt but after i set back my Laptop to new and i want to install it, the number didnt work.... I have the bundle with Photoshop elements 12 and the serial number there works perfekt.
I install both softwears only 3 times befor....

Have all your installs been on the same laptop? And, are you getting messages about the purchased serial number being on too many
of your computers? Are you getting any error message at all when you have problems with the install? Are you doing the install with the antivirus
and firewall(s) disabled?
Please excuse the question, but I do not want to take anything for granted....have you double checked to assure that you are using the
Premiere Elements serial number for the Premiere Elements install and not the Photoshop Elements serial number? Each should have its own serial number.
If there is any problems with the installation disc, you can download and install another set of installation files and try to insert your purchased serial number in them during installation.

You can also go to the Adobe web site (http://www.adobe.com), sign in with your Adobe ID and Password, and then navigate to My Products to confirm your serial number.
Please review and consider and then we can decide what next.

ChrisJ4203, thanks very much for your input. I don't mean to turn this post into an endless debate, but frankly I am still having a hard time believing that the WiFi died as a result of a hardware failure.
My logic might be flawed, but here it is:
While the iPhone 4S got very hot when wirelessly downloading and installing iOS 7.0.4 over the WiFi network, the WiFi chip and antenna had to be functional to complete the wireless iOS update. Apple was very clear that iOS 7.0.4 is too large to download and install via cellular service. Accordingly it would appear that any hardware failure had to occur in the few minutes between the download/installation of iOS 7.0.4 and its first use. That window of opportunity is incredibly small in an otherwise flawless hardware performance. I am not a big believer in long shot coincidences, so a WiFi hardware malfunction seems highly improbable to me, but not impossible. A firmware/iOS conflict still seems more plausible to me.
I also don't read much into Apple's "out-of-warranty" replacement offer at $199. AT&T tells me that anyone walking in off the street (with or without a hardware or iOS malfunction) would receive the same offer.
I appreciate that some iPhone 4S users did not experience any WiFi issues when they updated to iOS 7.0.4, but such difference could easily be explained if Apple used more than one WiFi chip and/or firmware in the iPhone 4S series. Such an explanation would also account for iOS 7.0.4 (and 7.0.6) not recognizing the WiFi chip after the iOS update.
Still perplexed, but thanks again for your kind efforts to help.
Wonder if I can limp along long enough to spend my money on an Apple iPhone 6 ... but then again I don't want to be anyone's beta-tester.

You need to read and follow the Boot Camp instructions. Boot Camp Assistant is already on your computer in the utilities forderf. You run Boot Camp Assistant. Part of the process is to to then download the Windows Support software. This download is then installed from within Windows.
There is no Boot Camp download that needs to be installed or unzipped from within OSx which you seem to be doing.

Flash player installed not working HELP!

I downloaded flash player 10 because youtube said I needed to upgrade my flash player. I did so, didnt work. I went to add/remove programs and its installed, yet when I return to youtube or any site that requires the flash player its telling me I need to install it. I already have? I've been fighting with this for 3 days now. I've uninstalled and reinstalled so many times. I've tried the manual install, I've tried the adobe svg viewer which was supposed to be a fix, doesnt work. I tried an older version of flash player, tells me I need to upgrade. I have checked all my security settings, restarted my pc over and over, I've made sure my add-ons are enabled, disabled my antivirus, etc. Nothing seems to work and this is making me really mad. I use Windows 7 with the 32bit IE. I cant view any content that requires the flash player. Anyone have any clue as to how to fix it?

I followed your directions, and under the tools, manage addons, there is nothing there that even remotely comes close to shockwave player. There is nothing there about any players.
I dont use any other browers. Just IE 8 32 bit.
I went to the system 32 file, there are no folders or files titled "Macromed" or flash. So I'm guessing I dont have it installed? Which is rather strange considering under add/remove programs its there. I also downloaded it to my desktop, it says it installed correctly. I simply dont understand, I'm baffled and I'm usually pretty computer savvy.
