Northwood Temp?

I just installed a new PSU and while I was testing it, I noticed the temperatures where high (there where before, but now it's a little more...)
Motherboard     40 °C (104 °F)
Processor       50 °C (122 °F)
Type                Intel Pentium 4HT, 3000 MHz (15 x 200)
Alias                  Northwood HyperThreading
the motherboard is a    MSI 865PE Neo2-PS (MS-6728 v2.0).
and I don't understand how since the case is a Thermaltake super tower with 7 fans.
The new PSU is a Thermaltake TR2-430w with two fans.
edit: (those temps are almost idle by the way, I'm only surfing the web...)

What is your existing CPU FAN?
You have a 7 fans chassis, but how these 7 fans work?
3 suck air in and 4 blow air out?
How about making it 5/6/7 blow air out and 2/1/0 suck air in?
It's more important to get more hot air out rather than get more cool air in. That's the theory of Exhaust. More cool air in won't help your in-chassis temperature. Get more air out better!
Also, hot air goes up. Make sure you put the biggest cfm fan at the top of your chassis. Power Supply's fan(s) are usually slow. So... dun expect it to work miracle. Hot air will accumulate at the top of the chassis and make your power supply running much hotter.
However there are parts on the PC that require direct air flow, especially the HDD and onboard CPU Voltage Regulator. These devices work better with air blow towards them. So, arrange your 7 fans the way it should be.

  • [865PE/G Neo2 Series] Suggestions for excellent Air/Fan Cooling - P4 Northwood

Guys, I need some advice here.  I've got my 2.8 Northwood up to 3.16 (yea, I know, not great or anything but good enough for right now).
Anyway, with the coming of the blazing Summer temps hitting Michigan in the high 80-90s, my case and CPU temps are skyrocketing.  I am finding that my idle temps, once at 31C are now at 35-36C, and the CPU temps once at 42C max under load are now reaching 50+ C.  Also, this is the first time in months upon seemingly endless months that I am now getting random reboots, and I am sure it is due to soaring temps and heat problems.  The room temps here are killer, and right now are in the high 70s...
I would like to please hear your suggestions/recommendations on a good AIR/FAN cooling solution for my specs I have listed below.  I am looking for something that is not very loud if possible, I welcome and thank you for your comments!

I only know that I can't suggest a HS and fan because my temperature is higher than my 2.6GHz Northwood's since i decided to install the Thermalright XP90 and the 92mm UFO Thermaltake fan(~82CFM max.). I recently discovered an old picture from Speedfan saying CPU temp: 40C!!! Now right after boot up, I get 40-44C idle and it can climb up to 60C at full load. I know for a fact that air flow is bad inside the case but it's unbelievable to have 40C+ idle. It can't possibly be the air flow so soon after boot. The pressure (and contact) on the CPU was enough to actually see my CPU stuck on the base of the HS after removing the HS!!! A few pins had to be straightened too.
So, from my experience I think you already rock, since we have 30C(86F) already where I live. The feeling of the XP90 crashed under my boot will ease my pain...Oh, yes it will.
P.S. I 'll give the Arctic Silver a try before smashing the XP90 junk...

  • Temp and bios question

Okay, new to the board and I must say I am impressed. Not a lot of hating goin on.
    First the details:
    MSI 875P NEO-FISR mobo bios v3.5
    Intel P4 2.8 800fsb - Northwood not overclocked- stock HS/Fan
    ATI Radeon X800Pro
    Kingston DDR400- 2x512
Lite-on CD RW / DVD RW
    Samsung 120GB SATA HDD 7200rpm
    Win2K SP4
    Aspire X-Alien case with 6 80mm fans - 420w PSU
Hopefully thats enough info...anyway my problem is the temp on my CPU has suddenly went up by almost 20 degrees C. Im wondering if it is the latest BIOS. I had updated every time from 3.1 up to 3.3 and I decided to not put on 3.4 just out of laziness. I did update to 3.5
Before my temps would run 28-29C idle and after serious gaming it might go up to 45C. the other day I noticed it was idle at 49C and gaming would jump to 63-64C. I have CoreCenter set to shutdown at 65C because I don't trust it. Nothing has really changed other than the BIOS and a newer version of CoreCenter. I blew off HS last night, but no change...it really was not dusty, only had system for few months now...My X800 runs in same area as always, so I dont think it is an ambient temp problem. I also uninstalled CoreCenter and installed an older version, but no change.
I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. Could it be the temps were wrong before, and they have been fixed with a subsequent BIOS?
Could be they are wrong now?
I'm thinking of buying a Zalman HS/Fan, but it doesnt make sense that what was running really cool before is now running hot with same HS/Fan...so Im not sure if I NEED to buy a new HS/Fan or wait to see if next BIOS fixes problem.
CoreCenter is only program I have used so far, so I will try SpeedFan when I get home and post the results of that tonite or tomorrow, I wanted to post this to see if there might be some other having same problem, or another possible fix. I was afraid to flash BIOS back to previous version...I was not sure what would happen. Is this possible? Should I try it and are there any "gotchas" in doing that?
thanks for any information you have.

okay, so I disabled CoreCenter and installed Speedfan using Danny's guide. SpeedFan has actually dropped the temps from idle at 49C to 41C and gaming gets up to about 62 C still...one interesting thing is CoreCenter would only allow my fan at max speed to just under 4,000 RPM (if I remember correctly) and SpeedFan on max is over 5400 RPM which I am thinking is responsible for the 8 degree drop in idle temp.
With all the info you guys have provided like the water cooled system running same temp, Im thinking it is the BIOS. Why would a water cooled system run same temp as a stock HSF setup, even if the BIOS update bumped the temps up 20 degrees, I would think the WC system would still be running cooler, like 38-39C compared to our 45-46C.
Anyway, Im thinking Im going to hold off on purchasing an aftermarket HSF and see what the next BIOS brings. I feel comfortable that the bios is throwing the temp READINGS off and the actual temp is not hotter than it has ever been.....I guess....heh. I do like how SpeedFan is controlling the temp better than CoreCenter...if you guys have not tried it, you might want to. It did lower my temp readings 8-9C. Here is the link to the thread on setting it up.

  • Temps too hot?!

    Hello, everyone!
I just finished buidling my first computer. It has a 2.8 Northwood, and a Zalman flower heatsink CNPS7000A-Cu with Artic Silver 5 Thermal grease. From what I have heard people saying there usual temps are with this setup, I feel that mine are too high (?). I have a Wavemaster case with two 80mm sucking in and one 80mm blowing out, and the cpu fan does about 2800rpm max. After gaming for a few hours temps were about 49 for the cpu and high 30 for the case. right now it is idling about 35 in the case and 45 on the cpu. the ambiet temp is 68 F.  The strangest thing happened after i let it sit a whole night off. In the morning when i tunrned it on, i checked the temperatures immediately in the bios. and the cpu was still 45C!, which is about 110F, 40F warmer than the room! I have the newest version of the bios, and i followed the artic silver and zlaman instructions exactly. is it possible i have damaged one or both of these sensors? I really appreciate any input or suggestions you have, and post questions is i need to clarify anything, i'm new
Notes: I was the most concerned with mounting the heat sink. I put the right amount of grease on, but it did squirm around slightly as i tightened it. Also, The copper fins never seem to warm up...

    Thanks again!

    Bejon2000,
On the Bios ver 3.20 and below the error reading is in -12 v but the temp looks fine, but in ver 3.5 corection has been made on -12v reading and the temp seems the same nothing change.
Bios 3.6 the cpu temp is much lower then the previous bios, this can be read on Speed fan and also in CPUZ the Vcore doesn't change in reading compare with the old bios.
Interesting to note bios 3.5 and below CC will read the lowest CPU  temp in my computer is 49 c although the other software read lower. (it seems stuck on the lowest reading CPU temp). In bios 3.6 the CPU temp read lower and the CPU temp reading is change quickly (abruptly) which I thing not supposed to be in the heat transfer.(The bad thing is happen on speed fan also).
Yes you right about new Mobo is started with Bios 3.30 and not found in the web site, you can see the history of this mobo bios on the zip file of Bios ver.3.6.
Regarding the CPU temp. is better to put a real sensor on your cpu which can be read on the front panel so you can get some reference of this matter in relationship with the software reading. It not expensive and you can get it with casing which have this equipment.
The great thing about this Bios is actually on the DOT performance.
    Hope this will help you.

    Hi "dalnap"
Now I presume you are using the stock intel cooler that came with the P4.
Those temps are too high and I would definately not run your processor at load until we fix it just incase.
Now wot u need to do it reseat your heatsink on your processor.
This means you will have to take off the heatsink and clean it with any heatsink cleaner or isoproppyl alcohol till the old thermal pad or paste is removed
Then put a little bit of thermal paste in between the heatsink and the processor (about the size of a grain of rice) and put the heatsink back on top of the processor.
So if you havent got any you will need to buy some thermal paste, Artic Silver III is meant to be good but if you use that it voids your intel warrenty so buy any other descent thermalpaste.
For reference if you are using stock your CPU temps should be about:
    Idle 40C
    Load 60C (max)
Hopefully this helps otherwise there are many other experienced users that will help you!
    Good Luck

  • Northwood 3.2G at 54 at idling on Neo2 FIS2R

I am using 865PE Neo2 FIS2R. I just put my new northwood 3.2G and it is at 54 when I am writing code and playing mp3. When I play generals or rip DVD it goes to 70 or above. Quite scary, I mean.
I am using the noiseless ZALMAN CNPS7000A-AlCu Aluminum + Copper CPU Cooler but I guess its Any suggestion, I don't have any plan to go with watercool right now though and sure less noise the better.
    Thanks a lot, guys.
on New egg, some guy claiming he use the same cooler to boost a 2.4C to 3.3G
with 47 full loaded. how can it be so bad for my 3.2C? Jesus Crist!!!!
Also, another PS, the pin holes of CPU slot seems much smaller than my via-vpsd's
I spent half an hour to gentlely push my CPU into the slot though my 2.6B went in and out fine. Thanks god it is running anyhow.

if it is a prescott and you are going to cool it with air you will probably have to mount a duct in the side cover if you want to get the temps down to a manageable range( many people have tried other ways without success) unless you go water cooling
I have told this story 100 times so for my own enjoyment I will make it 101 ( sorry to those who have read it the other 100 times )
My prescott ran the same temps as yours except I had blue screens , constant reboots etc etc . I tried the artic silver and all the other options given to me by many helpful people and the temps were still to high for my taste. I was ready to throw the thing in the trash can
I found this link on intel's web site that explains the need for a "thermally advantaged chassis"(see my signature for link) when using a Prescott
I cut the hole, mounted the duct and added an 80mm fan inside the duct just for good measure and PRESTO 42C at idle and never above 55C under an extremme load . This is using the stock HSF that came with the processor. And the topper is that these temps are measured with my system overclocked to 3.59
The mod takes about 15 min and my total cost was only $15.00. you might want to try it( I can send you directions and pictures of my case if you like)

  • P4 2.8c optimal temp?

Ok, i've been to Intel's site and it seems to me that 40c is the max that this processor should run.  Are they serious!
I've got the new Jet4 cooler master on my Intel and it ocassionally goes above 40c!
Do i need to put the Intel heatsink back on this thing to keep it from overheating?
I mean, it gets up around 41 or 42c and in my bios sometimes it says its up near 50c when i'm working in the bios and the pc's been on for a while.  Is that pc health status in bios accurate?  Am I in danger of ruining my processor?  I just bought the thing!
I thought the Jet4 was going ot help it run cooler! even when I leave the fan running about 2900 or 3000 rpm!  I can turn it all the way up to like 3500 rpm but MAN it's noisy!
F.Y.I.  my AMD 900mhz Athlon used to run about 45-50c all the time, and they say on there web site it's no big whoop.
    Please help!

Well I think that INTEL is out of thier Minds, as I to have found that they Recomend that thier Northwood(C) CPU's Should NOT Exceed 115' F for any substantial Length of Time ...And I was SHOCKED when I Read this, To the Point of thinking it was a MisPrint!...And then I get this Months "Maximum PC Magazine" and low and Behold, they Quote INTELS Maximum Susstained Temp. Spec. of 115'F ......Well Like I said this is All new news to me, as I was forever Under the Impression that if you Kept the CPU Under 60'C, that you were doing just Fine....I have no worries as I have NOT been able to get Either of my P4's Above 50'C Even with Prime95 Running. But I also have 14 Total fans in the MSI Rig, and 16 Fans in the ABIT Rig...So this is Something that I want more Clarifacation on from INTEL, as I NEVER saw that 115'F Spec on their site ever ...And Now INTEL Has the Nads to Lower the Temp. Limit on the Northwood "C"'s, and Meanwhile the Prescotts are Running at 110 Watts at 65'C at Idle ........I was NOT Happy when I Read this Info......But Until I read alot more of it, I am Sticking to what I always said....It should be Under 45'C at Idle, and Under 55'C For Constant Operation, with small Periods of 60'C Being nothing to worry about.......Danny have you Read this?....Sean

  • Multiple users accessing the same data in a global temp table

I have a global temp table (GTT) defined with 'on commit preserve rows'. This table is accessed via a web page using ASP.NET. The application was designed so that every one that accessed the web page could only see their data in the GTT.
We have just realized that the GTT doesn't appear to be empty as new web users use the application. I believe it has something to do with how ASP is connecting to the database. I only see one entry in the V$SESSION view even when multiple users are using the web page. I believe this single V$SESSION entry is causing only one GTT to be available at a time. Each user is inserting into / selecting out of the same GTT and their results are wrong.
I'm the back end Oracle developer at this place and I'm having difficulty translating this issue to the front end ASP team. When this web page is accessed, I need it to start a new session, not reuse an existing session. I want to keep the same connection, but just start a new session... Now I'm losing it.. Like I said, I'm the back end guy and all this web/connection/pooling front end stuff is magic to me.
The GTT isn't going to work unless we get new sessions. How do we do this?
    Thanks!

Thanks! You may want to try changing your GTT to 'ON COMMIT DELETE ROWS' and have the .Net app use a transaction object.
We had a similar problem and I found help in the following thread:
Re: Global temp table problem w/ODP?
    All the best.

  • Multiple plugtmp-1 plugtmp-2 etc. in local\temp folder stay , crossdomain.xml and other files containing visited websitenames created while private browsing

    OS = Windows 7
When I visit a site like youtube whith private browsing enabled and with the add-on named "shockwave flash" in firefox add-on list installed and activate the flashplayer by going to a video the following files are created in the folder C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Temp\plugtmp-1
    plugin-crossdomain.xml
    plugin-strings-nl_NL-vflLqJ7vu.xlb
The contents of plugin-crossdomain contain both the "youtube.com" adress as "s.ytimg.com" and is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <!DOCTYPE cross-domain-policy SYSTEM "http://www.macromedia.com/xml/dtds/cross-domain-policy.dtd">
    -<cross-domain-policy> <allow-access-from domain="s.ytimg.com"/> <allow-access-from domain="*.youtube.com"/> </cross-domain-policy>
The contents of the other file I will spare you cause I think those are less common when I visit other sites but I certainly don't trust the file. The crossdomain.xml I see when I visit most other flashpayer sites as well.
I've also noticed multiple plugin-crossdomain-1.xml and onwards in numbers, I just clicked a youtube video to test, got 6 of them in my temp plus a file named "plugin-read2" (no more NL file cause I changed my country, don't know how youtube knows where I'm from, but that's another subject, don't like that either). I just noticed one with a different code:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    -<cross-domain-policy> <allow-access-from domain="*"/> </cross-domain-policy>
So I guess this one comprimises my browsing history a bit less since it doesn't contain a webadress. If these files are even meant to be deposited in my local\temp folder. The bigger problem occurs when they stay there even after using private browsing, after clearing history, after clearing internet temporary files, cache, whatever you can think of. Which they do in my case, got more than 50 plugtmp-# folders in the previous mentioned local\temp folder containing all website names I visited in the last months. There are a variety of files in them, mostly ASP and XML, some just say file. I have yet to witness such a duplicate folder creation since I started checking my temp (perhaps when firefox crashes? I'd say I've had about 50 crashes in recent months).
I started checking my temp because of the following Microsoft Security Essential warnings I received on 23-4-12:
    Exploit:Java/CVE-2010-0840.HE
    containerfile:C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache2196625541034777730.tmp
    file:C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache2196625541034777730.tmp->pong/reversi.class
    and...
    Exploit:Java/CVE-2008-5353.ZT
    containerfile:C:\Users\Noname\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache1028270176376464057.tmp
    file:C:\Users\Noname\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache1028270176376464057.tmp->Testability.class
Microsoft Security Essentials informed me that these files were quarantained and deleted but when going to my temp file they were still there, I deleted them manually and began the great quest of finding out what the multiple gigabytes of other files and folders were doing in that temp folder and not being deleted with the usual clearing options within firefox (and IE).
Note that I have set my adobe flasplayer settings to the most private intense I could think of while doing these tests (don't allow data storage for all websites, disable peer-to peer stuff, don't remember exactly anymore, etc.). I found it highly suspicious that i needed to change these settings online on an adobe website, is that correct? When right-clicking a video only limited privacy options are available which is why I tried the website thing.
After the inital discovery of the java exploit (which was discovered by MSE shortly after I installed and started my first scan with Malwarebytes, which in turn made me suspicious whether I had even downloaded the right malwarebytes, but no indication in the filename if I google it). Malwarebytes found nothing, MSE found nothing after it said it removed the files, yet it didn't remove them, manually scanning these jar_cache files with both malwarevytes and MSE resulted in nothing. Just to be sure, I deleted them anyways like I said earlier. No new jar_cache files have been created, no exploits detected since then. CCleaner has cleaned most of my temp folder, I did the rest, am blocking all cookies (except for now shortly), noscript add-on has been running a while on my firefox (V 3.6.26) to block most javascripts except from sites like youtube. I've had almost the same problem using similar manual solutions a couple of months ago, and a couple of months before that (clearing all the multiple tmp folders, removing or renaming jar_cache manually, running various antmalware software, full scan not finding a thing afterwards, installing extra add-ons to increase my security, this time it's BetterPrivacy which I found through a mozilla firefox https connection, I hope, which showed me nicely how adobe flash was still storing LSO's even after setting all storage settings to 0 kb and such on the adobe website, enabling private browsing in firefox crushed those little trolls, but still plugtmp trolls are being created, help me crush them please, they confuse me when I'm looking for a real threat but I still want to use flash, IE doesn't need those folders and files, or does it store them somewhere else?).
I'm sorry for the long story and many questions, hope it doesn't scare you away from helping me fight this. I suspect it's people wanting to belong to the hackergroup Anonymous who are doing this to my system and repeating their tricks (or the virus is still there, but I've done many antivirus scans with different programs so no need to suggest that option to me, they don't find it or I run into it after a while again, so far, have not seen jar_cache show up). Obviously, you may focus on the questions pertaining firefox and plugtmp folders, but if you can help me with any information regarding those exploits I would be extremely grateful, I've read alot but there isn't much specific information for checking where it comes from when all the anti-virus scanners don't detect anything anymore and don't block it incoming. I also have downloaded and installed process monitor but it crashes when I try to run it. The first time I tried to run it it lasted the longest, now it crashes after a few seconds, I just saw the number of events run up to almost a million and lots of cpu usage. When it crashed everything returned back to normal, or at least that's what I'm supposed to think I guess. I'll follow up on that one on their forum, but you can tell me if the program is ligit or not (it has a microsoft digital signature, or the name micosoft is used in that signature).

    update:
I haven't upgraded my firefox yet because of a "TVU Web Player" plugin that isn't supported in the new firefox and I'm using it occasionally, couldn't find an upgrade for it. Most of my other plugins are upgraded in the green (according to mozilla websitechecker):
    Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U31 (green)
Shockwave for Director (green - from Adobe I think)
Shockwave Flash (green - why do I even need 2 of these adobe add-ons? can I remove one? I removed everything else i could find except the reader i think, I found AdobeARM and Adobe Acrobat several versions, very confusing with names constantly switching around)
Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.310.5 (green, grrr, again a second java, why do they do this stuff, to annoy people who are plagued with java and flash exploits? make it more complicating?)
Adobe Acrobat (green, great, it's still there, well I guess this is the reader then)
TVU Web Player for FireFox (grey - mentioned it already)
Silverlight Plug-In (yellow - hardly use it, I think, unless it's automatic without my knowing, perhaps I watched one stream with it once, I'd like to remove it, but just in case I need it, don't remember why I didn't update, perhaps a conflict, perhaps because I don't use it, or it didn't report a threat like java and doesn't create unwantend and history compromising temp files)
Google Update (grey - can I remove? what will i lose? don't remember installing it, and if I didn't, why didn't firefox block it?)
    Veetle TV Core (grey)
Veetle TV Player (grey - using this for watching streams on veetle.com, probably needs the Core, deleted the broadcaster that was there earlier, never chose to install that, can't firefox regulate that when installing different components? or did i just miss that option and assumed I needed when I was installing veetle add-on?)
Well, that's the list i get when checking on your site, when i use my own browseroptions to check add-ons I get a slightly different and longer list including a few I have already turned off (which also doesn't seem very secure to me, what's the point in using your site then for anything other than updates?), here are the differences in MY list:
I can see 2 versions of Java(TM) Platform SE 6 U31, (thanks firefox for not being able to copy-paste this)
one "Classic Java plug-in for Netscape and Mozilla"
the other is "next generation plug-in for Mozilla browsers".
I think I'll just turn off the Netscape and Mozilla one, don't trust it, why would I need 2? There I did it, no crashes, screw java :P
There's also a Mozilla Default plugin listed there, why does firefox list it there without any further information whether I need it or not or whether it really originates from Mozilla firefox? It doesn't even show up when I use your website plugin checker, so is there no easy way by watching this list for me to determin I can skip worrying about it?
There's also some old ones that I recently deactivated still listed like windows live photo gallery, never remember adding that one either or needing it for anything and as usual, right-clicking and "visit homepage" is greyed out, just as it is for the many java crap add-ons I encountered so far.
Doing a quick check, the only homepage I can visit is the veetle one. The rest are greyed out. I also have several "Java Console" in my extentions tab, I deactivated all but the one with the highest number. Still no Java Console visible though, even after going to start/search "java", clicking java file and changing the settings there to "show" console instead of "hide" (can't remember exact details).
There's some other extentions from noscript, TVU webplayer again, ADblock Plus and now also BetterPrivacy (sidenote, a default.LSO remains after cleanup correct? How do I know that one isn't doing anything nasty if it's code has been changed or is being changed? To prevent other LSO's I need to use both private browsing and change all kinds of restrictions online for adobe flashplayer, can anyone say absurd!!! if you think you're infected and want to improve your security? Sorry that rant was against Adobe, but it's really against Anonymous, no offense).

  • Calendar Weather Icon & Temp

Would Apple consider adding a small weather icon and temp to the current and following 5 days in their iCal and iOS calendar? The data could be pulled from the same place the weather app does, it would give folks better, quicker planning at a glance..."Hey, what are you up to this weekend? Would you like to bring the families to the park?"....glaces at calendar "Schedule seems open...and the weather looks to be sunny and 82 degrees."
If they tap on the weather icon/temp, they can see more, but having the weather in the current schedule at a glance would seem to be handy.

    No.
The Weather icon is not updated with actual information.
Think about it. If 4,000,000 iPhones(presumably more now) were constantly updating that icon it would(could, rather) create a tremendous load on the servers. That isn't to say it's not possible or that other phones/devices don't do it, only, it's just wasteful - in my opinion...

  • Temp Tables - Best Practice

    Hello,
I have a customer who uses temp tables all over their application.
This customer is a novice and the app has its roots in VB6. We are converting it to .net
I would really like to know the best practice for using temp tables.
I have seen code like this in the app.
    CR2.Database.Tables.Item(1).Location = "tempdb.dbo.[##Scott_xwPaySheetDtlForN]"
That seems to work, though i do not know why the full tempdb.dbo.[## is required.
However, when i use this in the new report I am doing I get runtime errors.
    i also tried this
    CR2.Database.Tables.Item(1).Location = "##Scott_xwPaySheetDtlForN"
I did not get errors, but I was returned data i did not expect.
Before i delve into different ways to do this, i could use some help with a good pattern to use.
    thanks

    Hi Scott,
Are you using the RDC still? It's not clear but looks like it.
We had an API that could piggy back the HDBC handle in the RDC ( craxdrt.dll ) but that API is no longer available in .NET. Also, the RDC is not supported in .NET since .NET uses the framework and RDC is COM.
Work around is to copy the temp data into a data set and then set location to the data set. There is no way that I know of to get to the tempdb from .NET. Reason being is there is no CR API to set the owner of the table to the user, MS SQL Server locks the tempdb to that user has exclusinve rights on it.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Crystal Server 2013: How to troubleshoot "Can not create temp file---- Error code:-2147215357"

We have a Java7 web app, which generate PDF report by calling Crystal Server 2013 SP4.
The app is being deployed on many different servers. We sometimes got the error below when generating report:
com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.lib.ReportSDKException: Can not create temp file---- Error code:-2147215357 [CRSDK00000615] Error code name:internal

    at com.crystaldecisions.sdk.occa.report.application.PrintOutputController.export(PrintOutputController.java:113)
Problem is, this seems to be  a pretty generic exception. It could be caused by many different reasons.
e.g. network connection problem, wrong DB login, wrong folder path, lack of folder access right, etc.
Each time we could only guess what's wrong.
We are running into it again, and this time everything seems correctly configured so far.
We wonder if there are more info we can get to troubleshoot? For example, any log file of Crystal Server we should look into? Or does Crystal Server has debug mode which prints more details to tell us what goes wrong?

    Hi Henry,
I believe you are using RAS SDKs to export the reports to PDF.
Apply trace on RAS server and check what you find in RAS logs.
Check whether you can see timeout error is RAS logs. Usually if connection is lost and the RAS server no more have the session to write to the temp directory, we do see these errors.
Also, does the account that runs RAS have permissions to create a file in RAS's default temp directory? Are you getting any out of memory or out of disk space exceptions on App server or RAS, tracing RAS server is the way to move forward.

How to configure tracing, and where are RAS logs? Is it configured in CMC --> Servers --> Crystal Report Services?

    Pretty sure yes.

    Not on App server.
For RAS, that's the problem, I am not sure where to look.......

    Hi,
We face the same problem with some BI4 reports.
The same report works well with the "Crystal Reports Viewers API", as used in Infoview, but not with the "Report Application Server (RAS) API".
This error appears after some time working on a report. If we reproduce the same report, but from zero, no problem.
    Hope it can help.
