Not 'Getting started with SQL server' but 'Getting SQL server started'
As a developer, I hate it when I lose valuable time because Windows 'is not working' and thus I can not work.
I don't know what would be the best forum to post this, please let me know if there is a better one.
Today after, a Windows Update and a reboot SQL server won't start anymore.
The error in the event log:
The SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service terminated with the following service-specific error:
An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions.
I stopped the firewall, but the problem remains.
As it is apparently not the firewall I have no idea how to resolve this problem, any suggestions welcome.
Thanks :(

Macbook pro will not boot. I get the gray screen, an apple icon and spinning wheel. I tried to start in safe mode, but get this same screen. The only thing different is that I added the zedge update app to do a sync for adding ringtones to my apple cell phone. How can I get a good boot. I am fairly new to apple computer.
Reset PRAM: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405 and then try a normal boot.
Run the Startup Manager to select Startup disk: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1310
If those did not work your disk may be sick or dying. The top priority at this point is to make a backup copy of your data.
Check the health of the disk. Boot in Recovery Mode (Boot, Command-R). Run Disk Utility. Click on the upper left disk icon. Does the S.M.A.R.T. status say “Verified”? If not the disk/SSD is unhealthy and needs to be replaced. Even if it does not show “Verified” you can still attempt a backup.
Click on the icon indented below, usually called “Macintosh HD” and Verify Disk. If it finishes with a green “OK” message then all is well with the disk. If it shows errors in red then you have found a problem to address once the system is backed up. Do not attempt software repairs until you have secured the data.
If the disk will not show up at all in Disk Utility as your ran the tests above then it may be dead or it may have a bad internal SATA cable. A trip to an Apple store for confirmation would be in order.
If you have an external disk drive you can use as a backup drive then do so. If not Google “Hitachi USB 3.0 external hard drive 1TB” to purchase one or go to a brick-and-mortar store (including an Apple store) to pickup one. Any 1 TB external drive will do.
Assuming it is still breathing you can try to recover the data without booting from the sick disk.
Reformat the external disk. (This will erase all data on the external disk.)
Boot in Recovery Mode. Start Disk Utility. Plug in the new disk. Select it’s disk Icon (the second one down, left justified). Select the Partition tab.
Partition Layout > Single Partition
Name: Emergency Recovery 1 (or whatever name you wish to use)
Format: Mac OS Extended (journaled)
Options… > GUID Partition Table > OK
Apply
Select the Restore tab.
Drag the old system volume (Macintosh HD) to Source.
Drag the new disk volume (Emergency Recovery 1) to Destination.
Click on Restore.
It may take a long time for the backup.
If that will not complete post back for other emergency data recovery methods, including those from a brody.
If the backup succeeds, use the First Aid tab in Disk Utility to select the old volume (Macintosh HD) and Repair Disk. If it does not finish with a green OK message try to repair it once or twice more. If it repairs with a green OK message, will it boot normally? If not, boot from the Recovery Partition and reinstall OS X.
If it is still not healthy, post back for further instructions. -
i got an iphone 5c last saturday. i noticed that after merely 5minutes of using facebook, my phone got warmer than the usual. i know that phones will get warm if being used but getting a warm phone after just 5minutes of surfing with 3G seems not normal. compared it with iphone 5 and 5s and they are not getting warm like that. is it a software or hadware issue?
My eyes just glazed over...Please in the future break down each of your issues with paragraphs separated by two carriage returns. It would be much easier when trying to address your issues.
Go to Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse -> Mouse
And edit your mouse settings to do what you want it to do.
Secondly, this is not the place to vent. If you have a complaint, there is:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/
or http://www.apple.com/contact/
We are just end users here helping other end users.
Third, from my understanding, it would appear you are concerned about the noise the hard drive makes when it falls asleep? Why not put your machine in screen saver mode instead? Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Energy Saver turn off all Energy Saver settings, or set them to run Never.
Fourth, if your machine was purchased just a few days ago, you may still be able to get an exchange from the store, quicker than you can get a repair done. You may want to look into that possibility.
Fifth, it does appear you found the Logic forum. I would persist in asking there how to solve your technical issue with Logic regarding the audio. It may be you don't have to do anything special to the hard drive. Remember audio can be transmitted by wire, avoiding ambient sounds.
Good luck! -

My apps store will not go online with verizon network, but on wifi it works. I am on an iphone 4, verizon. I tried to do a complete, backup and restore on the phone 1 day before i noticed this problem, The backup finished but the RESTORE would fail I had an error, could not access Apple server ( some server name I cant remember).
I have plenty of space available on the iphone,
8gb free,
ios version- 6.1.3 ( 10B329)
carrier - Verizon 14.0
Modem Firmware - 3.0.04
Can someone help.
I tried doing my backup restore on the same computer as I once did a year ago. and THis time I cant do the restore on the iphone.
computer osx is 10.5.8
itunes version 10.
I do not wish to go to ios 7 at this time.Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
Basic troubleshooting is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If the issue continues, contact the carrier to troubleshoot the network connectivity issues. -
ı couldt manage to download iOS 5.1 Software Update . system trying to connect to server but download don't start , what would be reason?
download with itunes, or with one of your devices, and re-try, most causes it the update server it self.

I bought an ipad off of criagslists, and I cant get intouch with the seller to get them to remove it from thier icloud, what should I do?
Nothing, except "keep asking". Maybe you can return it.
In too many cases the "sellers who do not respond" stole the device. -
Different client connect server but get same IP??
i am doing a server for multiplayer game. when the client connect to server, server need to keep it IP. but why my server always get same IP for every connected client? my code is as below
public class CommServer {
private Vector clients = new Vector(); // a list of all connected clients
ServerSocket server; // the server
private static int INTPORT=9999;
public static void main(String args[]) {
CommServer myCS = new CommServer(INTPORT);
public CommServer(int port) {
startServer(port);
private void startServer(int port) {
try {
// --- create a new server
server = new ServerSocket(port);
// --- while the server is active...
while(true) {
// --- listen for new client connections
Socket socket = server.accept();
CSClient client = new CSClient(this, socket);
writeActivity(client.getIP() + " connected to the server.");
// --- start the client thread
client.start();
} catch(IOException ioe) {
writeActivity("Server Error...Stopping Server");
// kill this server
killServer();
public class CSClient extends Thread {
private Thread thrThis; // client thread
private Socket socket; // socket for connection
private CommServer server;
protected BufferedReader in; // captures incoming messages
protected PrintWriter out; // sends outgoing messages
public CSClient(CommServer server, Socket socket) {
this.server = server;
this.socket = socket;
this.ip = socket.getInetAddress().getHostAddress();
// --- initialize the reader and writer
try {
in = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(socket.getInputStream()));
out = new PrintWriter(socket.getOutputStream(), true);
} catch(IOException ioe) {
killClient();
public String getIP() {
return ip;
}please help.. thankshi, thanks for reply.
yes, i am trying to connect from different macnine
that have different IP address.
how to check if it asign same external IP toclient?
can it be configure to assign different IP?what he means is, if you run your server at location
A, and all your clients from location B, with the
internet in between, and a single router/switch
serving internet connections to the clients at the B
location, then the server at the A location will see
the external IP of the site B router, not the
individual IPs of the clients behind the router
(since those IPs are only for internal network usage
behind the router)
in short, do you test with multiple clients from one
internet connection? then it would be logical that
they present the same IP to the server. The best (and
most realistic) way to test would be with multiple
clients from multiple locations / internet connectionsok.thanks.
so is it possible for me to get the client machine ip but not the IP for the router? because i will hav multiple user from same location access the server at the same time. -
I cannot print web pages. I've tried the solutions suggested like deleting anything that starts with print in the prefs.js file but I get an error message: Script: c:\users\rick\appdata\roading\mozilla\firefox\profiles\iviwh5c1.default\prefs.js
line: 1
Char: 1
Error: invalid character
code: 800A03F6
Source: Microsoft JScript compilation errorWhen editing '''prefs.js''' you need to use a simple text editor program. WinXP Notepad messes up the line formatting of prefs.js, so I use Wordpad - but you need to save the edited file in a Text-Only format (Wordpad asks about that when you go to save the edited file). I never used Win7, so I don't know if that version of Notepad messes with the line formatting of prefs.js or not.
Another thing - make sure '''''"Hide extensions for known file types"''''' is de-delected in Windows file / folder options > view -> advanced settings. Otherwise Windows may add a .txt file extension that you won't be able to see, and that will break that file in Firefox. '''prefs.js.txt''' won't be recognized by Firefox, when is expecting to find '''''prefs.js''''' . -
Cannot get SWF with imported video to play on server
I have had this issue for quite some time, but I never got around to looking into it until now.
I am having an issue trying to get an SWF that features an imported video to play on our web server from its URL. About six months ago, I didn't have this issue. The only thing that has changed since then is that I have gone from Mac (Snow Leopard) to PC (Windows 7). I am using CS 5. I've attempted to perform that same action on the Mac in CS 4 without success.
I do as I usually do: import the video (in this case an MP4 or F4V) into a Flash file and add a skin using Flash's "Import Video" function. I publish the file as an SWF and can get it to play on my hard drive. Once I place it on the web server, I can get the file to play by browsing to the server's contents in Windows Explorer and clicking on the SWF file. However, when I attempt to access the movie via its URL, the file will not play. The skin I chose shows up, but the status bar in between the "play" and "stop" buttons just looks like it's loading continuously.
I've tried importing the video in several different formats, always with the same result. At first, I thought it was the MP4 file, but then I used Adobe Media Encoder to encode it into an F4V file with the same results. Everything plays fine locally (even from the web server). But when I attempt to access the video by its URL, it simply won't play.
Any suggestions for what might be going on?Glad you got it working. Good Job!!
Just to clarify a couple things for future reference.
The reason the mp4 didn’t play was because it was an mp4, not an flv. Attempting to play the video in a .swf does not “convert” it into a .swf, it’s still a mp4 (or .flv) Both are external files that stay external, they are just loaded into the .swf video player in order to display the video.
In this case as well as the other example link you posted, the .swf is just the player, it is NOT the video. Neither the other flvs or the mp4 have been “converted” to .swf, they are still the same, flv or mp4.
In the case of the older videos, you chose a format that worked with your .swf video player, the .flv format. In the case of the mp4, it doesn’t work with your .swf video player.
To verify for yourself that the .flv is separate and has not been converted to a .swf, go to your server and rename this file “FK_DHI240.flv” to “FK_DHI240B.flv” and then test the link you posted, it will not play the video, even though no changes were made to the .swf.
Any flv can be played from the hard drive just as easily as from a server, given a .swf video player that is correctly pathed to find the .flv video file.
As for “streaming” the flv from a Web server, technically that means that you are using a Flash Media Server to do true streaming, which is most likely not the case.
A better choice would be to choose “progressive download” when you are importing the video into Flash.
But glad it’s all working. Hopefully next time will go smoother.
Best wishes,

when I start a console, logged in as user, it always used to start with
user@hostname ~$
Suddenly, and I cannot recall having done anything that could lead to the issue, konsole will always start as
bash3.2$
even after many reboots, this is still the case.
whoami shows my user name. I can su to root, and from there to my username, but never directly from bash.
Occasionally, starting a program like KDE partition manager fails with the error message the program su could not be found. but it is as I said occasional.
I am quite a newbie to Linux, so I am clueless. Can someone help me..? I tried googling, but I seem to be the only one in the WWW that goofed up to such an extent..! and searches are quite unrevealing.
I am installing Linux From scratch using arch linux as base system, but I am just following The Book to the letter and don't think that caused the problem.

That is THE trouble. And I take back my words, it was during the linux from scratch install that I botched that file...! I was supposed to make a new bashrc file in the LFS directory, but I went wrong on the commands and I think I ended up removing the Arch Linux file...!
If it is to be found, it should be in the etc directory, right..? I looked there and could not find it. Did I look in the right place...?
What can I do...?

Place your iPhone into recovery mode as described here. You may have to try to enter recovery mode more than once to succeed.

This is a sort of performance issue , because your program takes more than the max time set for the program to execute in foreground.
There are many stuff in program which will hamper your performance.
I will list down a few
1. SELECT *
FROM konp
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE konp_itab
FOR ALL ENTRIES IN a363_itab
WHERE knumh EQ a363_itab-knumh
in this statement you are using for all entries a363_itab , but before this statement you are not checking if the table has any entry or not , please do remember that for all entries has this characterstic , that if you internal table does not contain any record , then all the records are selected from the database table. So in this case if you table a363_itab is empty , so what you want is no data must be seelcted from table konp , but what will happen is all the records in KONP will be seelcted.
2. While retreiving data you are using seelct * even though you do not require all the fields , an example is
<b>SELECT *
FROM mkpf
INTO CORRESPONDING FIELDS OF TABLE mkpf_itab
FOR ALL ENTRIES IN mseg_itab
WHERE mblnr EQ mseg_itab-mblnr.</b>
in this your internal table contains only 2 fields
<b>mblnr LIKE mkpf-mblnr, "Number of Material Document
bldat LIKE mkpf-bldat, "Document Date in Document</b> , but to get these 2 fields you are selecting all the fields of the table.
3. In select you are using into corresponding fields of table , it is not a good practice., so please avoidd it.
Please understand that you must try to reduce the access to your database tables and try to keep it minimal , because this same thing may happen becasue data in DEV is very less compared to the volume of data in production , so a program working in DEV will take much more time in PRD if not written properly and may result in timeouts , as in your case.
Please try to make chanegs to the prorgam and see if it works.
In case you have more queries , please do revert back.

Arun

Get('XML') doesn't work, but get() does in javascript - CASCADING LOVs
I'm trying to get cascading LOVs working in Apex 3.1.0 in Oracle 11g. When I call get.get('XML') it returns null in firefox and empty string in IE6. If I change it to call get.get() then it returns the XML as a string into Javascript.
The Application process is getting called in both scenarios as i've put PL/SQL logging to disk in order to prove it. The XML being returned is very basic so i'm sure it's not a problem with formatting. I'm not getting any exceptions thrown in javascript either.
Is it possible to use get.get() and then convert the text into an XML object which is returned as per get.get('XML') which at least will allow me to get something working ?
thanks

+}+Hi,
I've been trying to replicate your problem here: [http://apex.oracle.com/pls/otn/f?p=37055:1]
My application process is:
BEGIN
OWA_UTIL.mime_header ('text/xml', FALSE);
HTP.p('Cache-Control: no-cache');
HTP.p('Pragma: no-cache');
OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
HTP.prn('<select>');
HTP.prn('<option value="-1">Please Select</option>');
HTP.prn('</select>');
END;(Just copied from your post and XML changed to xml, otherwise untouched)
And my page has a simple HTML region with the source of:
<div id="XMLOUTPUT" style="border:1px solid blue; width:200px; height:200px;"></div>
<div id="XMLOUTPUT2" style="border:1px solid blue; width:200px; height:200px;"></div>
<script type="text/javascript">
function getMyXML()
var l_Return = null;
var get = new htmldb_Get(null, html_GetElement('pFlowId').value, 'APPLICATION_PROCESS=RETURN_XML', 0);
gReturn = get.get('XML');
var d = html_GetElement('XMLOUTPUT');
d.innerHTML = gReturn;
var d2 = html_GetElement('XMLOUTPUT2');
d2.innerHTML = get.get();
var s = gReturn.getElementsByTagName("select");
alert(s.length);
</script>
<a href="javascript:getMyXML();">Click</a>Click on Click at the bottom of the page. The first DIV gets the get.get('XML') object and the second one the get.get() and a popup message tells you how many "select" items are in the XML version.
As far as I can see, this works fine.

I have a Macbook 2.1 that runs 10.5.8. I cannot get it to start on battery power. It will run for over an hour on the battery, if you start it with the charger, but even then it shows a 0% charge! I've tried pulling the battery out while it's booted, pulling battery out and discharging the system by holding the power switch, nothing seems to make it work. any ideas? It has all the updates Apple offers, too.
Try resetting the SMC
Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
