My Apache has been highly customized, with several virtual hosts, but I was getting the same errors in the console that this thread mentions. So I hope my solution helps some of you.
First, make sure your main (default) error log exists and can be written to. Open the Terminal, and enter:
sudo mkdir /private/var/log/apache2
This may return telling you that it's already there. It should ask for your password before trying. Next, make sure the error_log exists:
sudo touch /private/var/log/apache2/error_log
My gotcha was that I'm using an Apache compiled from MacPorts, and so my default error_log wasn't in that location. I found it (and all other possible logs) with this command:
locate error_log
It should give you a list of files that have "error_log" in their name. One of them should be getting written to every time the console reports that message "Exited with exit code: 1", so you may need to "ls -l" on a few of the directories to find out which one has recently changed. To find out what the error is that is stopping Apache from launching, enter:
tail /private/var/log/apache2/error_log
Use the path of the error_log that has recently changed. For example, mine was:
tail /opt/local/apache2/logs/error_log
This command reported:
(2)No such file or directory: httpd: could not open error log file /Users/bcurtis/Sites/bivia.com/newdev/log/errors.development.log.
Unable to open logs
This was a log that one of the virtual hosts wanted to write to, related to a Ruby on Rails config, which might explain why not everyone is having this problem. I just had to create the directory /Users/bcurtis/Sites/bivia.com/newdev/log/ in the Finder, and Apache started up just fine.
Hope this helps someone!

  • Apache authentication & Leopard

i have an apache site running on my G%. i had password authentication working fine under Panther and Tiger. just upgraded to Leopard and it seems not to be working. it's as though none of the httpd.conf edits (that i see are still there) are not taking effect OR something changed with Apache in Leopard -- or the like.
the httpdd.conf customizations that have worked for quite some time are:
    Order deny,allow
    Deny from all
    Allow from 127.0.0.1
    AuthName "By Invitation Only"
    AuthType Basic
    AuthUserFile /Library/WebServer/.htpasswd
    Require valid-user
    Satisfy Any
and they are still in what i believe to be the active httpd.conf file. additionally, the .htpasswd file is also located in the right place and is intact after the upgrade.
it's not as though the site is inaccessible. access to my site from the outside world is just swell... just no authentication before providing access.
any ideas of why the password authentication would just not work??
    thanks!!

    That was exactly it!
I am grateful and so glad I decided to put the question to the forums. I stared and poked at it for more than an hour. I'm not an expert by far, so I was "double checking" myself in circles at 2AM. Thanks SO much for the dot connection.
Any idea where I can read more about the Leopard specific Apache install???
Separately, it was funny because it still took me a while to find the issue. Even when I found my way to /etc/apache2, when i then invoked bbedit httpd.conf from within that directory, it opened up the old one -- or rather the one I was already familiar with in /etc/httpd. I eventually had to have bbedit 'open hidden' to get to the proper new one.
    Anyway, thanks for the info!

  • After installing Leopard, my G4 will no longer boot in OS 9.22. (Classic still works, but I need it to boot in OS 9.)  Any clues about what the Leopard installer might have done to my machine that rendered OS 9 boot unusable? What can I do to fix it?

After installing Leopard, my G4 will no longer boot in OS 9.22.
(Classic still works, but I need it to boot in OS 9.)
Any clues about what the Leopard installer might have done to my machine that rendered OS 9 boot unusable? (And what can I do to fix it?)
    Details:
    G4 Gigabit Ethernet
    Boot ROM version: 4.2.8fl
    Accelerator card added: 1.6 MHz
    1.5 Gig Ram
I have erased the partition that had Leopard installed on it.
    I zapped the pram.
In Open Firmware, I "reset-nvram", and then "reset-all"
I tried to reinstall G4 FW Update 4.2.8, but that must be done when booted from OS 9, and of course, that's the problem: it won't boot into 9.
I tried restarting from 9.2.1 DVD.
I tried restarting from an external firewire drive containing OS 9.2.2.
I tried moving a fresh OS 9.2.2 system folder into an empty partition on an internal hard drive. (Partition was created WITH OS 9 drivers installed.)
All attempts to boot into OS 9 give me the same results - grey screen - no spinning beach ball, no icons or logos - just a blank grey screen.
This machine still works fine in OS 10.3 and 10.4, and it worked fine for many years booting into OS 9, until I installed Leopard, and I haven't been able to boot into OS 9 since then, although I have done considerable research online and tried many things.
I have since learned that this machine does not support Leopard - 10.5. Fine, but how did it break 9.2.2?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for checking in, BDAQua.
    Problem solved.
In the docs that came with my Powerlogix accelerator card, I found this sentence buried:
"If you reset the PRAM, the NVRAM code for OS9 compatibility is cleared, so you will have to boot from the Firmawre Update CD and perform this process again in order to boot in OS9."
The "process" it's referring to is the process of setting up the NVRAM for booting into OS9 from the CD.
Fortunately, I was able to find the disk, and it worked as expected. I can now, once again boot into OS9.
Conclusion: My (unadvised) attempt to load Leopard on this old machine apparently reset the PRAM on the accelerator card and cleared the NVRAM code for OS9 boot. Although I did attempt to reset the NVRAM via Open Firmware, it did not reset it on the accelerator card.
So, thank you BDAQua, for your "Ah yes" . . . that's all I needed to steer me in the right direction.
    Gratefully,
    tupester

  • Did anyone notice about this¿?

Hi dudes, I noticed about a "clicking" noise in the left channel while I set the volume higher or lower. I´ve tried lots of headphones and problem still there ONLY in the left channel . Please help this is my second ipod 30 gig photo. Thanks

WHOA. hold on, im sorry. I misread your problem, I thought you said that there was a clicking sound in the left when there were high volumes..
Yes, I have this too (on my old HP 40GB iPod and the 60GB iPod), although it doesn't bother me much since I can control it (by not controlling the volume). I thought it was normal as well so I never thought of it as a major concern.
If you find yourself changing the volume for each song to comfort level, perhaps you should try turning on Sound Check, which levels the volumes of all of your songs to roughly the same level

  • Why do I receive notices about going over my data usage?

I have unlimited data, and I always receive notices about exceeding my data usage, then all of my apps i.e facebook, instagram, wells fargo ,etc stops working.

You will need to log into your account and change your data notification levels. It is on the opening page once you log into your account.
However, I just looked at mine and I am to be notified at 50% and 75% but the bar above shows 0 data used of my unlimited account. But I also still have an Alltel billing plan

three things i have noticed about Nokia
    1) Updates that are necessary are never on time.
    2) If you're phone has a problem their(nokia) customer service can't fix it.
    3) And they still believe their power in the tech market will never be crushed.
looking at this many people have had their love for Nokia crushed. i for one am **bleep**. i bought my n8 for $550 if u convert RM1680 to it. dat was since october last year. and till now no proper software updates. nothing new on the phone. and we (customers) have to contend with being made fun of by people who use android and iphone because their phones can do what ours' cannot

  • Is anyone noticing increased heat with Leopard?

I have istat nano installed as a widget and use widgets constantly. One thing I've noticed is that the temperature numbers, especially 'CPU diode' and 'CPU A' are constantly about 10 degrees hotter than I remember seeing them. And the keyboard feels hotter too.
Is anyone else making this observation?

Leopard may have broken smc fan control if you had that installed prior to the upgrade. I downloaded this...http://www.lobotomo.com/products/FanControl/index.html and was able to get things cooled down again.

  • Message failure notices about emails I haven't sent

Starting yesterday, I began receiving message failure emails in by inbox and junkfolder about emails that I didn't send. When I got the first message, it seemed apparent that I was hacked, so I quickly changed my email password. Since then, the failure
notices have continued so I changed my password one more time. Again, the emails have continued. It appears that the emails from my email address are being sent all over the world... Australia, Germany... etc. I've emailed Outlook to ask them their advice.
Any thoughts that anyone has on what more I can do would be appreciated. Thanks so much.

    Hi Friend,
Generally, this kind of problem occurs due to the virus/malware attack on a computer or Outlook. Scan your whole computer with Antivirus program and contact with your ISP (Internet Service Provider) coordinator to fix this issue either it can create a big
    trouble for your PC.

  • Question about installing Snow Leopard on a Mac Mini

I'm in the process of installing Snow Leopard on a Mac Mini, but it's taking forever. It's been installing for well over 2 hours now and still indicates an hour left to install. Is this unusual? I'm getting a little concerned. What do I do if I have to cancel the install? Do I have to start from scratch again?

    How about this:
    1. If necessary start up from the external HD & verify that everything is working right & all your files are intact on it.
    2. Clone from the external to internal HD.
    3. Start up from the internal HD & verify as in #1 that everything works as expected.
    4. Install Snow Leopard on the external HD. If that completes successfully, restart from it & verify as above.
5.a. If that all checks out, clone the external back to the internal HD & you are done.
5.b. If that fails, you still have the internal HD with your working copy of 10.5.8 to use while you try to figure out what is going wrong.
The main benefit of this is you always have one working installation to fall back on no matter what happens.

  • How to re-install Apache on Leopard?

I got interested in playing around with PHP / Apache on my MBP. Went into "sharing" in SysPrefs and enabled Web Sharing, but it doesn't work. eg: type http:/localhost, or http://localhost/~myusername in the browser address bar gives a "Can't establish a connection to the server" error.
From what I understand, the built-in Apache web server should work out of the box. Typing 'sudo apachectl start' in Terminal gives me "org.apache.httpd: Already Loaded".
Is there a log file somewhere that I can look at to determine what the problem is? Or, failing that, is there some way to re-install Apache from my OSX Installation disk?

Your best bet is to user your TM or other backup to reinstall your OS to a time just prior to your modifying the OS. Simply reinstalling Apache may not fix anything.
You might try using Pacifist to extract Apache from the Leopard DVD, but Apache is so tightly wrapped into the system that this might not work.

  • Questions about Apache POI

If you have experience with Apache POI, please help me!
    (1) HWPF is in POI API documentation (javadoc), but I didn't find the classes in the jar (jakarta-poi-1.5.1-final-20020615.jar). Did I miss something?
    (2) Is HDF substituting HWPF?
    (3) Is it possible to create Word file with HWPF or HDF? If so, is it possible to create tables in the Word file?
Thanks! I understand there has been lots of discussion of this topic, but I've not been able to find anything substantial, and have to ask questions here again.

The HWPF is in early stages of developement, therefore it is not included into the final distribution. Try poi-scratchpad-2.5.1-final-20040804.jar. Here you will find the classes you need
About creating word documents, it can be done using HWPF, but i suggest you to try itext which will generate rtf (http://www.lowagie.com/iText/docs.html). It's quite simple to create tables.
