Novell Client 2 after sysprep

During my image process I have sysprep run a batch file which installs several programs. Included are the Novell Client 2 (2nd to last install) and the ZAA (last install). Everything seems to deploy correctly and the system reboots. What I have noticed is that the Novell client doesn't not default as the primary login shown. The system seems to want to boot into windows automatically and throws up a ZAA login dialog.
Did I miss a registry setting that would cause this? The client should autosetup the tree/context/server but even that seems to be missing.
Thanks
Rich

why not just have the client on the image itself? we originally had it as a layer, but then added it to image with zen agent to speed things up a bit.

  • Novell Client help

I just finished setting up my tree in edirectory and Imanager. I installed Novell Client and when I went to login it said the tree couldn't be found.
It is frustrating because I don't know what's wrong.

The Novell Client installation after eDirectory may have broken eDirectory
if it's all on windows. eDirectory uses a new version of NICI, and the
Novell Client may still ship with an older one. Also, the Novell Client
typically installs NICI in client mode (of course) where eDirectory
requires it to be in server mode, and while the client can live in server
mode, the server cannot run in client mode.
I won't bore you, again, with my comments on platform choice. You're in
for a ride as you can see.
Hopefully you're in a VM and can revert a snapshot. Otherwise you may
want to call support to see if they can help fix this. There may be a TID
by now on this, but I haven't seen one lately. You may be able to
reinstall eDirectory, but on windows the eDir install both installs the
binaries that run the service as well as configure a tree, so you may need
to recreate the tree for this to work.
    Good luck.

  • Novell GINA removed after R2 upgrade to ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 client

I am working with a customer and we just noticed an issue when upgrading some of their SCCM 2012 SP1 clients to R2.  After the upgrade, everything appears to work fine, but as soon as a restart happens, the Novell GINA is replaced by the Windows GINA.
These machines were running Windows XP SP3 with Novell Client 4.91 SP5.  This did not occur when installing the ConfigMgr 2012 SP1 client originally, but appears to happen every time when the ConfigMgr client is upgraded to R2.  I wouldn't have
thought the ConfigMgr 2012 R2 client upgrade would have anything to do with the GINA, but we can replicate the issue.
It's not due to Windows Updates getting installed in the background while the client is temporarily unmanaged, which was my initial thought.  We ensured the policy to disable Windows Updates was correctly in place and that no updates were installed.
The only fix so far is to completely remove the Novell client and reinstall it.
Has anyone else run in to this?
    Thanks!

Yes, I have seen this when we took over a group that had Novell. It was ConfigMgr 2007 at the time.  We only had to keep Novell long enough to completely remove it later.  So your process is correct.

  • Windows 7 with MDT - Novell Client / Zen Agent?

Been creating my Windows 7 reference image using Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT - pretty cool). I'm wondering if any of you do the same, and if you do, do you include the Novell Client in the image? what about the zenworks agent? If so, what techniques are you using to install.. etc.
    Thanks!

You can use this during your sysprep process that way it does not matter if it is installed or not.

  • Script or .bat for control userpasswords2 after sysprep

I am new to windows 7 and sysprep. I have my image built and everyhing works well but after i run sysprep it resets the autoadmin logon to windows. After testing all i have to do is redo the control userpassords2 utility and windows auto logon works again. is there a way to automate this so i don't have to touch the machines after imaging? I have tried numerous ways to try to get this to work but after hours on the internet and trial and error this seems to be the easiest way. I'm not good with scripts or .bat so any help would be appreciated. Thanks, chris

    Chris,
Can I ask why you do not have Sysprep creating your local accounts and setting the password as part of the process? I do that now as I set the Administrator password and create 3 other accounts (in my case) and set the passwords for them. I think that is in pass 4 Specialize. In my case I am building a Windows 7 (64bit) image so I use the amd64_Microsoft_Windows_Shell-Setup_neutral option and then Autologin option and then set the Administrator password. The computer name also either gets set here or in my case brings up a window early on to name the computer since image safe data does not seem to work for us anymore.
In pass 5 Audit System again with option:
    amd64_Microsoft_Windows_Shell-Setup_neutral
    UserAccounts
    LocalAccounts
    LocalAccounts[Name=
    and then its password.
That was a second account that also happens to be my main network account for setting up workstations and I use it for autologin below.
    In pass 7 OOBE System
    again with the amd64_Microsoft_Windows_Shell-Setup_neutral
    Autologin
    Password (for Administrator)
then with the OOBE option (still in pass 7) I create and set 3 other local accounts of which 2 are administators (including the same network account I set up above that is use to get content from the network) and the third account is a local "student" restricted account.
    Then still in pass 7 I have a "x86_Microsoft_Windows-Shel-Setup_neutral
option I have a long list of tasks that I perform. Just keep in mind that these multiple steps can not have a reboot in them as Sysprep will not continue the list if all items were not done before the reboot. In this list I install the Novell client, set autologin for the network/local account that I use. The task that sets that is a batch file that calls a Autologin reg key:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login]
    "ProfilesUsingDHCP"=dword:00000007
    "Enable Login Profile Display"=dword:00000000
    "AutoAdminLogon"="1"
    "DefaultUserName"="Student"
    "DefaultLocationProfile"="Student"
    "DefaultPassword"="Passw0rd"
Then I install the Novell client by calling a batch file that puts a command in run once registry key.
Then I call another batch file that calls a "turn off autologin" reg key:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Novell\Login]
    "Enable Login Profile Display"=dword:00000000
    I then install iprint.
Call a batch file that places a batch file call in run once key to run a reg key to place a legal notice message on the screen prior to login.
The last thing is the agent install.
I was also trying to install Sophos in this process but I had to use the run once key to call both the agent and Sophos installs but Sophos would always run first which did something to the agent install or blocked part of it so now I do that using zenworks application delivery after the machine comes on the network and is successfully registered by the client in the folder that I want it in.
The use of batch files to place a batch file in a run once key is not very elegant but I could not get it to work by other means and this does work for me.
Since you want the system to autologin you could leave it turned on where I disable it as one of the last steps in sysprep.
    I hope this was useful.

  • Novell Client 2.0 SP1(IR6) - TID 7008266 - Service/eDir Auth

    Shaun et. al.,
I like what I'm seeing in the Novell Client 2.0 SP1 (IR6) release notes.
Tree or Server Not Found on login immediately after powerup is supposedly fixed with this release (a big problem with us).
Can you confirm that TID 7008266 is part of Novell's solution to the issues posed by installing as a Dynamic Administrator / System Account?
    (mapping drives, etc).
    pitcherj

Well, I think the efforts are completely disconnected.
The Client2 Efforts are nothing to do with ZCM.
I'm aware of the Interactive Services Detection defect and this would
not relate to that in any way. Nor would the Dynamic Administrator
inherit any rights defined by the Client2 Feature.
In regards to the SYSTEM process, it may but I have not tested nor do I
believe anyone in the ZENworks group has done so. However, I think it
would stand a decent chance of working. Of course it would require the
use of a UNC Path, and not drive letters.

  • Installing Novell Client fails due to 'untrusted signer'

I am trying to update Novell Client on our Windows 7 workstations, using a Zenworks bundle. This method has worked in the past: copy the installation files to c:\temp\zeninstall\clnt2sp3ir5 (including appropriately modified NovellClientProperties.txt and install.ini) and then just launch "setup.exe /ncpf" as secure system user.
This time I noticed that the new client was only partially installed. When viewing Novell Client properties it shows the new version, however, some files are definitely from the previous client version (for example C:\Windows\System32\lgnwnt32.dll).
I dug up c:\windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log and it seems that installation was aborted due to "unsigned driver package":
    Code:
sto: Validating driver package files against catalog 'netnvcli.cat'.

If I run the installation manually, I am prompted at one point about unsigned driver and whether I want to install it. If I answer "yes", the installation is successful.
Looking at Windows' certificate store on our computers, I see under "Trusted Publishers" a certificate issued to Novell, Inc by "Verisign Class 3 Code Signing 2009-2 CA", but that certificate expired on 27.04.2013.
How can I obtain and deploy the certificate that would allow the silent installation of Novell Client 2 SP3 IR5 to proceed? Or am I going about this in an entirely wrong way?

You need to install the newest client (that have a never certificate) on a device and then export it from that machine, after that you import it on the devices you want to install the client before running setup.exe.

  • Automatically login zenworks without Novell client.

I want to setup a computer that will automatically login to windows and to
the ZENWorks agent (even if just to workstation) and then run the NAL as the
windows shell. Also, we did not want to have the Novell client installed on
    the machine.
I have figured out how to get the shell to work, but I can't seem to get the
Zen agent to automatically logon to the workstation. I attempted to use the
steps in TID10094960, but the zenworks agent login still comes up. I haven't
yet put the windows credentials into the registry so that it can
automatically login, do I need to do that at the same time?
We're trying to make a machine that will only allow the programs to run that
are presented by the NAL window and for the computer to login automatically
to the point where the icons are displayed.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks..
    Brian W.

so let me see if I got this right...
If I want to get applications I need to authenticate a user. So, if the
following are set then it should work.
    1. Do not install Novell client.
    2. Create a user in NDS that I can create a local user account for. Then I
set the workstation for automatic login to windows using the a local account
with the credentials for the NDS user.
    3. Set the Zenworks agent for PASSIVE login (this is the default?) Can this
be changed somewhere if I already installed it, I read lower in the document
you posted that you need to uncheck a box in the installation, can I change
this option after the fact if I installed it wrong?
    4. Setup NAL as the shell.
This will allow the any user of the workstation to use only the available
icons and will allow me as an administrator to distribute them using the
    NAL.
    Thanks for your help

  • DHCP Conflict between ZfD 4 Agent and Novell Client

I am having problems with the use of Novell Client versions that support
DHCP settings tab (Tree, Context, Server).
This is in this board because my problem is only reproduced when ZENworks
for Destkops 4 (IR5 and IR7) Workstation Management component is installed.
    THe problem is this:
Every now and then, logging in with the novell client displays 886f errors
in the login results window, and other strange communication errors.
If I release and renew the IP, it works fine after that.
If I reboot, there is a chance I get the same problem.
This absolutely does not happen when I have the two options for DHCP
settings in the Novell Client unchecked (Server->Binary Data).
Now, is ZfD Workstation Manager getting the Preferred Server IP from DHCP
as well during system startup? Is this clear? Happens on both Windows
    2000 and Windows XP.
I have no access to the router serving DHCP so I don't know the details on
    that end.

There was (is?) a conflict that is supposed to be solved,
but I'm not 100% convinced that is true. Since I always
use Client32 I remove novdhcp.dll in my ZfDAgent transform,
even now with ZDM7 because I've seen the "semaphore" error
    there too if I don't.

according to Novell Documentation there should be a make_novell-client-conf_rpm Bash script but i cant find it in any of the recent clients (download) nor on the SLED installation.

    sed -i "s/Default_Context=.*/Default_Context=$1/" /etc/opt/novell/ncl/login.conf
    fi
So far this is working well.
The novell login needs to be run once, and on the advanced tab, have the session saved. This then auto runs afterwards for each logon.
    as a troubleshooting tool, I :
    Code:
    cp /etc/etc.1
    rsync -avP etc* my-pc:/tmp/
i can then use krusader to compare files (on my-pc), but most importantly, after doing something (eg yast ldap). rerun the rsync line and and it will tell exactly which file(s) changed, so you know which ones to check/keep/alter/etc
    hope this helps.

  • Novell Client dirty uninstall

Due to the temporary misconfiguration of an Enterprise patching solution I accidently got the Novell Client and NICI installed on my notebook. We have nothing Novell on our network.
Unfortunately despite uninstalling everything Novell related I still have "Novell Logon" at login on my machine and smart card login has stopped working.
This notebook is running Windows 7 Enterprise.
How can I clean up the mess which installing this client has caused?

I've never had problems with uninstalling Novell Client, although I
must admit I don't do that very often. But I have come to the
conclusion anymore that it is faster to re-image a PC than it is to
    troubleshoot problems on Windows.

  • Novell Client and Login Scripts?

    All:
I'm a former administrator of NetWare 3.x, 4.x and 5.x systems and am
intrigued by the NLSBS 9 offering. I have downloaded the trial version
and have installed it on a test server.
Since I am "old school", I was wondering if I could use the Novell Client
for Windows XP and login scripts to automatically map shares using groups
like I did back in the day.
I'm very new to the Novell/Linux world since every organization I've
worked for in the past 10 years abandoned NetWare for Windows. I'm sure
a LOT has changed since the Linux OS was brought on board, so I thought
    I'd ask.
    Thanks,
    Greg

Not sure. It would depend on whether Novell is still offering a product upgrade to the OWS from Windows 2000 SBS and what that price looks like. Otherwise, I was more thinking about the software side itself, re: the Linux side. Either way will work. Just work out the figures.
    >>> <[email protected]> 5/23/2006 5:02 am >>>
I guess I'm looking at it this way: If I purchase the 5-user upgrade
license of NLSBS for $211.00 which includes upgrade protection, then
according to Novell, I can upgrade to OWS for free after July 31st. A 1-
    user license for OWS at CDW is about $125.00. $125.00 x 5 = $625.00.
    Is my logic flawed?

  • Howto automatically call Novell-Client Login-Mask

    Hi,
we have a few cases in which users first have to login to windows and then use the "N" symbol to connect to edir to get their drives.
Now we would like to configure the Novell Client SP3 IR8 in a way that the login mask appears automatically after the desktop appears.
    Is there any way?
    thx,

Have not tried but it looks like calling loginw32.exe would bring up the box?

  • Novell Client 2 SP3 and the inability to log in the Win7

Novell Client 2 SP 3 for Windows 7 64 bit and the inability to log into the desktop for a "NEW" user
My issue is that If the username exist already in Windows 7, I can log into Novell and the Window 7 desktop will load
HOWEVER if the username doesn't exist and I attempt to log in, I'm able to log into Novell Client
BUT I get prompted with another window titled Log on to this Computer with a check box Change your Windows password to match your Novell Password after success login.
    1) I insert the password and
    2) check the box
The Result is a line that says The Local computer username or password is not valid
Any suggestions would be most appreciated

Sorry, but that is even less clear. I'll make some assumptions.
    * You have a Win7 PC.
    * The user already has an account on the PC, but they have never
    logged into it.
    * When they login for the first time, they get an error that states
the username or password is not avalid.
Sounds like the user is using the wrong username or password.
In your first post you state:
"BUT I get prompted with another window titled log on to this Computer
with a check box Change your Windows password to match your Novell
    Password after success login?"
At that point you must enter the password assigned to the account on
the PC. Depending upon how you created the account, it may not be the
    same as thier eDirectory password.
If that doesn't help, try explaining again...or maybe someone else
will jump in that understands what you are trying to do.

  • Group Policy causes novell client to never show up windows XP

    Hello,
I've been having a problem for the last couple of months that I have no
idea how to fix. I'm using Windows XP SP1, Novell Client 4.91, and
Zenworks 3.2 (included in Novell Client 4.90 SP2). This is a Netware 6
    server. I am running E-trust Antivirus 7.1.192. I am having a problem
where the novell client will not show up after restarting the workstation.
An hourglass comes up for a couple of seconds, disappears, and then I'm
left with a blank screen and a mouse curser. The only thing I can do is
power the machine down manually, no keystrokes work at that point. It
doesn't happen all the time, it's completely random, but it occurs often
enough for the users to complain.
The source of the problem seems to be the group policy that is in effect
for students (this is a K-12 school district). If I disable the group
policy for students, the problem appears to go away (this is not an
option). If the login screen shows up, then everything else on the
computer functions perfectly (including policy after login). Are there are
group policy updates available that may solve this problem? Please let me
know if I've left out any important information. I appreciate any help
provided as I've been at this for the past couple months!
    Thanks,
    Patrick
