Now, I am a believer...

Back in February when I was going through the process of UPGRADING my old pc into an nForce2 machine, I read this forum on a daily basis.  One thing that caught my eye was that in changing chipsets (VIA to nForce), it's best to do a clean install of WinXP.  Of course I didn't want to believe it!  I had way too much information on my Hard Drive to just throw it away.  Yes I did back up to CD-ROM some important data, but I personalized WinXP in such a way I could not remember every setting or what I done in the past.
So when my new parts came in and I put the machine back together - it didn't work  After much troubleshooting (3 days worth) and with the help of folks here; I RMA'd my precious nForce mobo & cpu  Once the replacement parts came in, put them all together, powered up, repaired/recovered WinXP WITHOUT a clean install and I was underway!!!  Everything worked flawlessly for 2 months, until...
While opening an application, I received a "Page Stop" error; which I can only describe as a WinXP BSOD!  I re-booted the pc and everything continued functioning.  One day while gaming, I walked away from the pc for a cold "drink".    When I got back to the pc, there was another "Page Stop" error and a physical memory core dump.    I knew then, I should have listened to the "almighty forum moderators"!
So, for the past 2 weeks I have deleted the hard disk, reformatted the hard drive and completed a "new" install of WinXP!    I am still in the process of re-installing all of the software I had before and attempting to set everything to my liking.  There are a few things I have been able to do this time around that did not work previously (i.e. installed internal DSL modem that would not work since installing WinXP the first time around).  My machine is faster with the clean install and operates more smoothly than before.
So take it from me...  When you are asking for help in the forums and a moderator request or suggest something, do NOT take it lightly!!!    They may know exactly what they are talking about or have experienced similiar problems in the past.
Hopefully; when I put my 2 cents in the forum, it will help rather than hurt!

  • Mains power cut to house - iMac now DEAD

Today I turned off the mains power to change a light bulb in a room that has given me some problems with sparking in the past.  Unbeknown to me, my son was using my iMac... (no, I failed to check properly, now I am suffering, believe me..).  After I switched the power on, my son exclaimed "Well, now the computer won't turn on!"  We have a surge protector which would have been on and working, but as the computer - a 17" intel duo core iMac purchased new in mid 2006 is old, and the surge protector is the same age, I am sick with worry wondering what it could be, and there are no repair shops near us open tomorrow, or even in our town!  I have to wait a week, and travel 100kms to the apple service specialists.... This computer is home to all our music (massive amounts my son has on there) and my photos - thousands, a serious hobby.  As well the computer runs Final Cut Pro Studio software, as we do a bit of video editing.  I have backed up no files, always meant to get around to it.....  As the computer is older, the main thing that devastates me at this point is my photos - a life history really, and thousands of hours too, photoshopping, etc.....  I have tried to computer in different power outlets, tried turning on, off, unplugging, all I can find recommended on these kind of sites - but to no avail.  The screen is black, and not a sound can be heard.  Completely dead.  Not one sign of life in the 8 hours since.....  I have been reading about PRAM batteries... this computer has had a massive amount of use, daily and in the house of serious creative insomniacs - for six years now, so almost daily serious use, and as yet just two dead keyboards, no other problems.... I got some extra RAM when it was purchased.  But recently it has not liked shutting down (it hasn't) so it has been pretty much permanently on, with the screensaver up,..... could this suggest a dying PRAM battery?  experts please, this internet reading has done my head in, now I have to wait a week!!!!! to know if our photos and music can be recovered.... if not the computer itself revived....?
Thank you for any help.  I know, I am SUCH an idiot for not checking all electronic devices were off, but as we know, this MAC hasn't been turning off recently...

Here is what Apple says to do with an iMac that won't start, it's from the owner's manual.
If your iMac won’t turn on or start up   Make sure the power cord is plugged into your iMac and a functioning power outlet.
Restart your computer while holding down the Command (x) and R keys, until the computer restarts. When the Mac OS X Utilities pane appears, select an option to repair your disk, restore your software, or reinstall Mac OS X and Apple applications. For more information, see “Repairing, Restoring, or Reinstalling Mac OS X Software” on page 44.
42 Chapter 4 Problem, Meet Solution
Press the power button (®) and immediately hold down the Command (x), Option, P, and R keys until you hear the startup sound a second time. This resets the parameter RAM (PRAM).
If you recently installed memory, and your iMac sounds tones every five seconds, make sure that the memory is correctly installed and that it is compatible with your iMac. Check whether removing the memory you installed allows your iMac to start up (see page 38).
Unplug the power cord and wait at least 30 seconds. Plug the power cord in again and press the power button (®) to start up your iMac.
If you still can’t start up your iMac, see “Learning More, Service, and Support” on page 54 for information about contacting Apple for service.

  • Have html, now what to put swf onto website?

UBER Newbie, so please bear with me...thanks.
    (Referencing website  www.ctfalliance.org)
I needed to change a footer, which is a flash file.  current one reads:  Contact Us   (and)  Sitemap.  Needed to change Sitemap to Members Section.
Found the fla and made the changes.  The preview looks like it's pretty much the same as before, having replaced Sitemap with Members Section (lost some color during mouse hover, but can live with that) and so I hit Publlish.
Now I have the html file, which opens in Dreamweaver, but I don't know what to do next to replace the current footer.swf with the revised one.
I don't know what to do with this html file.  I haven't seen it in the site's files before, i.e., footer.html so not sure if I should "put" it on the site or not.
Or do I just "put" the revised footer.swf onto the site now?
BTW, I believe I also need to change the URL reference from the sitemap to the members section, which currently reads as:
    so.addVariable("sitemapURL", "sitemap.htm");
So I think I should change it to read:
so.addVariable("membersURL", "members.ctfalliance.org"); which i'm hoping will take the user to our secure page for members only when they hit the "Members Section" on the footer.
Can someone tell me what to do next, please?  (the guy i've had to help me before isn't available; he's the one that built it originally and has been helpful but he must be busy and didn't offer to make the revisions for me...ARGH).
    Thanks.

Thank you.  that was easy.  i guess i was overthinking.
Question:  why would the hover feature we used to have not be there any longer?  That is, it's now just a glowing white light, but used to be that when one hovered her mouse over the text, it would change color to a orange scheme consistent with our design scheme.  May I highjack this post a bit and ask this question?

I hadn't/haven't recalled ever seeing UZBL in the homepage 'Recent Update' area before 2 days ago.
Actually, I still don't recall ever seeing UZBL there.
when I was posting my main vibe was, wow - UZBL added to Community - all the while thinking -
hmmm, I'm posting this a bit emotively, though what the heck, the occasional big strong cheer for UZBL !

  • New macbook..a cry for help!!!!!!!!

    Hey all,
I bought a a black macbook on friday,my first mac and i have to say although happy to have it,i think i might have a few issues....but first let me say i'm not very tech savvy...
1st. i am noticing a slight rattle of some of the keys...QWEASDZXC basically the ones on the left hand side...i could be wrong but say for example, i press P a few times and then E i notice a distinct differnce in noise levels.
2nd. At times the trackpad seems to be a little slow on the take...it will work fine but every now and then i notice the cursor freeze for a split second.
3rd. when surfing the net i feel its not running at full speed(granted,i dont know what full speed should be)2 days ago when i first connected to internet via wireless,it more or less went to web pages instantaneously but ever since it seems to alot slower.if for example if download the apple page the 'frame' of the page will come in a second or 2 but all the captions etc will take anywhere up to 5/6 seconds more...is this normal???my father has a dell desk top which is 3 years old,my brother has a compaq (i think!)latop,i'm pretty sure neither one has had any signifcant memory upgrades, runs a few programmes etc and i'm certain they are faster then my mac.
4th.In general(and this could be down to me being unfamiliar with the machine) i feel that when going through applications etc,the machine just doesnt seem to be as fast as i had expected it be,i havent installed anything from the disks(as in,all the osx programmes are on it)maybe i need to get rid of some of them, but i just feel that if i think its slow after 2 days whats it going to be like when i start downloading stuff and really getting in to it etc???
Ok,so thats it for now...please believe when i say i'm not making these points in a complaining/whining type of way...apart from these issues the macbook looks great and i believe i've made to right move switching to apple...its just that my tech challenged gut instinct tells me that something is not right with the machine...or maybe my expectations are too high???...i dont think so.
so if any of you have any thoughts or ideas on the issues please post away...let me say again, this is not intented to be an angry post but i just want to get the best out of my new computer,
    thanks for listening/reading
    Paul.

bout ye (im in n.ireland atm ^_^ )
yes, if you quit the process now, it will start the
next time you open it, or it will start itself if its
a system process which automatically starts after
    boot up.
I do not use limewire and didnt know what it was,
after google it now I learnt that its a p2p file
transfering programme....and I suspect its eating up
    you ram.
What I would suggest you to try is restart your
computer, and this time dont run limewire, then
connect to the net as usual and run activity monitor
and see if there's any improvement.
    bout ya!
i'll give that a try, only concern is..i installed limewire whilst writing in this thread..ie it was running slow before!another thing i might try(if you advise it!)when i turned on the computer the first time i didnt and still havent used the intallations disks...i've read on other threads that i can take out programmes that i'm not going to use (for a while)such as garageband, iphoto etc, printer options and other languages...this might free things up for me?all in all, still think its pretty strange...havent seen many other threads from new macbook owners with 1gb...
    thanks,
    PAul.

Hi, I have original Adobe photoshop cs 2 product with key, but when I am trying to activate, appear error: activation server is not available at this time. Could you help me ?

Bit behind the times aren't we.
Download the full suite here - perfectly legal if you already have a licence, and no need to activate

The activation server for CS2 is now permanently closed I believe.

  • How do I use the Flash downloader add-on on a web page?

I downloaded Firefox because I thought it included a Flash downloader automatically. I have now added what I believe to be the Flash download add-on, but I can't see how it works. I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit on a PC.

You should ask on the support site for your downloader software.
If that is RealPlayer related make sure you keep the software up-to-date, it has had issues where firefox/realplayer/flashplayer caused conflicts or crashes.
Note some FlashPlayer content will not be intended to be downloadable.

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Sleep mode issue

    Hi All,
I've been experience troubles with issues ralated to sleeping.
    Sometimes it just sleeps well.
Sometimes my Y2P sometimes won't go sleep(insomnia???). The screen goes off but the fan doesn't stop and the keyboard backlit doesn't go off. And whatever I do won't wake it up in this circumstance, for example hitting a key on the keyboard, hitting the power button, or touch the screen. I have to restart to enter the OS. (FYI VirtualBox may cause this problem but I was not running it. I don't even have it installed.)
And sometimes it does go sleeping and can be waken up, but during the sleep the fan doesn't stop and the machine becomes very hot. This seems to happen only under the power manager high performance mode but I'm not sure. Twice I just closed my laptop and went to bed. and left the poor Y2P baking-hot overnight. As a result, the battery capacity estimate in the power manager is now 'Normal'. I believe it was 'Excellent' or 'Good' when I first received it. (FYI the capacity is now 54760mWh.)
I really love this machine. Yellow issue is not a killer but the sleep problem does troubles me a lot. I'm not able to return it because I just passed the 15-day return period. Any suggestion to solve those problem, folks?
    -K

I have observed two related issues on my Yoga 2 Pro. In agreement with a later poster to this thread, it will occasionally shut down (or crash?) rather than sleep. This happens occasionally when I have a dozen apps up in a configuration that I'd really like to go back to rather than have to set up again. I'm guessing this issue, shutting down improperly, could be a problem getting an app or service to sleep properly, giving up, and dying. One of the reasons I upgraded to the Yoga 2 Pro is that my old Sony Vaio did this same thing and I assumed a new machine would have the quirks worked out. Perhaps it's a Windows problem, but still should be addressed.
I have also found several times that I will take my Yoga 2 Pro out of my bag after hours of sitting and the two lights indicating that it is running will be lit solid with the laptop hot to the touch. I have no idea why a machine would turn itself on with the lid closed, even if the power button is bumped (which is very unlikely with its small size in a padded bag). I'd love for anyone at Lenovo to address whether this issue is known, common, being looked at? It's terribly frustrating to "start" with the battery half depleted because it's been busy generating heat in a confined place.

  • Why was I lied to by in store reps and treated as if I did something wrong when trying to get a faulty phone less then 6 month old replaced?

I am writing to say I experienced the worse customer service ever from one of your stores!!!  Not just the reps but both the day and night manager both were very rude to me, I am not going to saying I was a happy camper in talking to them but you are more then welcome to pull up the recodings and see that I was not being out of bounds with them....expecially after waiting over an hour to be seen in person then being lied to and calling back mad then next day!  I have a Note 3 I purchased about 4-6 months ago that the screen went dead on.  The phone still turns on and makes noies and recieves messages but will not light the screen up.  I took it in the the Murrieta store last night about 830pm, after reading online that you can bring it back to any verizon wireless store for refurbished replacement.  Well after checking in and witing till about 930pm (30 mins after closing) I was seen and given the 3rd degree about how I broke the phone.  The representitive went thru the phone for 20 mins and continue to throw out ideas of how I broke it and hows it possible I could break it and again would ask if I broke it.  After the 5th time stating I did not break it he look up my phone number and pulled my account (a while later we started) and stated he could get me a replacement by Tuesday of the following week, well that was a Thursday night and I was going out of town that friday so I explined that does not work and I need a phone ASAP.  He then explianed I could pay for overnight delivery, I refused to pay for any charges as it was not my fault the phone was broken,  He stated a manager could possibly waive the charge.  I asked to speak to the manager, he coninued trying to help me for another 5 mins to which I eventually said can I just speak to the manager.  He went and asked the manager to come over who was already dealing with another irrate customer.  After waiting another 5-10 mins the manager came over and rudley asked how can I help you.  I explained where we were in our transaction and that I was very unhappy.  She rudley informed me that all they can do is ship the replacment and if I wanted they would ship to a venture store (my weekend destiation) and I could go piock it up from there and that it.  I informed her that the rep has already offered overnight to my house by 1030am but I needed her to pay for the charges.  She said fine she would and was very short and rude about it.  At this point I was ****** and told her I felt she was being very rude and short to me and I understand she just dealt with an irrate client but I had been waiting well over an hour at this point for something turns out I could have done over the phone or should have as your stores dont offer in store replacement (I was told that a policy and they have no idea why the website would say come to the store but its wrong).  I also informed her that it was a product I bought from your company that was giving me trouble due to it being faulty and its an inconvenence to me THE CUSTOMER....not the other way around.  She said she was doing all she could do and could do no more.....NEVER once in the conversation did the manager offer her apologizes for my troubles, even after I stated she was being rude and I was very unhappy with her level of customer service in this problem with a warrantied item.  I excepted the 1030am next day delivery and left.  Well I was unhappy but left anyways and now its 1130am I go to check status of package and it says monday by 530pm delivery??????  So I called the store informed the day manager on duty (David <<Last name removed>>) I was lied to about a needed delivery of replacement and explained that I am very unhappy.  Well turns out he had the staff listening on speakerphone as he informs me the staff remembers it differently and the manager on duty last night went above and beyond her duty by paying for my shipping and helping me.  Then went on to say my screen was cracked via the notes shown which was never shown to me and they did not even have to help me as I did not have insurance.  I explained the rep the night before spent 30 mins trying to find how I broke the phone and why I could have broke it to which he found nothing with the phone but apparently still put in the notes he found a pressure crack.  I asked the manager if its the policy to just assume the thing is broken by the client to which he said YES, we have an extensive history with these devices and we are usually right in out ASSUMPTIONS!  I informed him I was very unhappy and he was not a part of the conversation last night and to tell me his rude night manager went above and beyond was siding with his employees far beforing doing any research into the matter having only heard what his employees were talking about as I was explaining.  He did not seem to care and explained that your policy are very strict and your employees must adhere to them to, guess this includes lieing to customers to get them out of the store.  At this point I got his info as I seen the level of his customer support and service and hung up.  This really makes me question the 15 year relationship I have had with Verizon Wireless!!!  I now am leaving my family alone for the weekend and I have no form of communication as I will be on a boat off the coast of Ventura for 3 days......and I am left to think my best hope is to have a phone monday evening that I will mostly be charged full price for as the rep stated the phone he is replacing is broken........am I correct in this assumption.......Verizon Wireless Sorry, I don't believe you when you say you don't work for the VZW.
Believe me or don't. That's simply up to you.
You are trying to explain to me that they could have just kick me out after
hours (even though I was there atleast 30 mins before closing, was checked
    in and asked to wait)
No business is obligated to assist you after hours.
and that my phone probably is broken (even though the
rep could find nothing wrong and could show me nothing wrong still noted in
the notes it was broken)....sure sounds like a vzw rep to me.
I sure hope that, for your sake, that the phone is not broken.
You are assuming I was told of charges.....
At some point you were told of the charges because you mentioned them in your original post.
you also assume I was irrate and
    demanding from the start....
In my 20 years of retail experience and dealing with customers I don't assume that you were irate. I am confident of that. I could tell from your original post that you were not an easy customer to deal with.
the website clearly states come to store for a
refurbished phone if your phone has a warranty issue which is what I did.
Can you post a link to this information on the website?
I will give you that you are very articulate in your answer (Thank you) but completely
unhelpful and ignore the fact that I was told something which now you make
me believe even more was done intentionally.
    What does this even mean?
    You say nothing can be
overnighted after 5pm....then why was made that promise?
FedEx has certain times that they can abide by for overnight shipping.
    To get me to go
    away?
Yes because it was 30 minutes after the store closed and they wanted you out of there.
There is policy and I understand that but there is also a thing
called customer service and thats what not what I received.
You obviously don't understand that there is policy or you would not have treated the employees the way that you admittedly did in your original post.
You get what you give. You will always attract more flies with honey than with vinegar.

  • My service has been turned off even though I returned phone?

I am so unhappy with Verizon! I have been a Verizon customer (loyal) for over 13 years now. I always loved them, bragged about them, encouraged friends, family and clients to sign up with them as well. Until last year. I sucked it up every time I upgraded my phone and they took away privileges (unlimited this or that......) because I thought that is the way everyone is going now. I was so excited to use my upgrade in October of 2012. I was counting the days! Literally on my calendar! I originally ordered the new i-Phone 5 until I heard I could get the 4 for free. So, 4 days before I was slated to receive my new 5, I ordered the 4 instead. Biggest mistake EVER! First of all, I had a Droid X, which I LOVED, but I bought my daughter the i-Phone 4 for Christmas the year before and I wanted the ability to Facetime with her. Also, my coworkers also had i-Phones, so when a group text went out, I got tired of downloading each message separately.
My i-Phone never held a charge longer than 7-8 hours right out of the box! My daughters lasts 2 days new, easily. Even after a year, it still lasted longer than my brand new one. The sound is barely audible on the highest volume. So, couldn't use my alarm at all. Too quiet. Missed a ton of phone calls for work because I couldn't hear it ringing. In addition to being self-employed and working full-time, I was also enrolled in college full-time, a single mom, etc. No time to be on hold, just to be disconnected.....but that is what happened! Not only did I not get service anywhere on campus (my Droid got service everywhere except the middle of one building), I could not call Verizon customer service between classes. At work, I am too busy (hairstylist) so when I DID have more than a minute, I tried calling Verizon.
The first time I called, I must have pushed the wrong button at the end of the auto-you-pick-maze. Hung up. Client showed up and was too busy the next two days to call again. Second call: got through and she said she would connect me to the right department and I got an out of service message. You know, the kind with the 3 raising beep, beep, beeps? This number is no longer in service etc.........Weird. No time to call til the next day. FINALLY got ahold of someone! SO happy! He told me to call from another number and he was looking at my phone somehow (weird, but ok) and I was on the phone with him for 20 minutes and had to get to class. (Remember how I said my phone didn't work on campus?) The gentleman from Verizon PROMISED to call me back at an agreed upon time and never did! I told him how hard it is for me to make time and the difficulties I have had with trying to get through and he promised!!
By then, so fed up, was ready to cancel my Verizon account and transfer to the competitor. Decided when I had time (after the quarter was finished and holidays over) that I would go into the store and deal with it. Of course by now, it had been too long so they said they would give me a $90 credit for my i-Phone (they swore it wasn't refurbished and they would NEVER sell a used one as new but now I don't believe it) and I could pay the difference on another phone. Not happy but desperate to get a phone that worked, I chose a cheaper Droid. The Samsung Stellar. When I told my daughter they charged me $250 for that phone, she was furious! She said that was a total rip off. Even worse, when the new phone arrived, it was not even new! It was refurbished. Whatever. STILL desperate to have a working phone, I followed the directions to activate it. It never activated. The running circle on the screen went round and round and never stopped.
I am SO OVER THIS!!!! I brought it down to FedEx and shipped it back. During the billing cycle in between, I paid my normal bill minus the replacement phone charge. On Saturday, I get a message from Verizon saying they are turning my phone off (can't remember the exact terminology they used) if I did not bring my account current. Through another maze of automated-you-pick-menus, I was able to choose a button that told them my overdue payment was in the mail. Technically, it was. Tonight, no service on my phone. Checked FedEx tracking number and they received the phone yesterday!! I AM SO FED UP!!!
Now, I am reading the forums and realize I am one of MANY who this has happened to and it looks like the fun is just getting started. Looks like they will say the box is empty first (as per other reviews on here) then, after a couple months, they will "find" the phone..........I am still stuck with a ****  i-Phone 4. I never thought Verizon would treat me this way.  Guess this is what happens when a company gets too powerful. They don't care about the customers anymore. I think I am going to bite the bullet, pay the early termination fee and never look back. I hear AT&T is offering a great deal for new customers right now............

Hey Salonsister.  I want to start off by saying I admire all that you do as a single mother.  That is awesome that you are able to go to school full time, have a full time job, and raise a family. You truly are a hard working person, keep up the great work.  With all the hard work you do, we absolutely want to do everything we can to make this easier on you.
I am sorry to learn about all the phone issues you have been having.  The iPhone 4 is a great device and I truly am sorry to hear that it gave you so many issues.  I completely understand that you are busy, but I am confident that if given the chance to troubleshoot that we would have been able resolve the issues you were having.
The Samsung Stellar you purchased was most likely a Certified Pre Owned device.  If you were not upgrade eligible this would have been your least expensive option.  The phone at full retail is $329.99 so by going with a Certified Pre Owned device you saved $100.00. For more information on the Certified Pre Owned program please visit http://vz.to/rcDvLW.
I understand that it didn't activate, but again if given the chance to troubleshoot I am positive we could have gotten that up and running for you.
When you shipped the device back? Did you ship it back within the 14 day Worry Free Guarantee? When purchasing a device or an accessory you have 14 days to return the device from the point of purchase for a full refund.
If you let a balance run past due, you do run the risk of having your services interrupted. I know you returned the phone and all, but that balance was due as a part of that bill which was due on whichever date your bills are normally due.  The adjustment would than appear on the next bill.
Did you receive an alert that the device was received? If not, did we file an investigation for you?
We truly do care salonsister and it would be sad to see you go. I am here to assist and I know we can get this straightened out for you. Please provide additional details to the questions I asked and I will continue to assist.

I've been using FCP since 2004, all the way from version 4.5 to the current 6.0.1. From 1994 until late 2004 I used AVID software on a Mac platform. Overall I have 27 years of editing experience. The plain truth is that FCP has just NEVER worked as advertised. I've been told over and over again how our system, with its 2.7TBs of XServe/RAID drives and Black Magic Design DeckLink Extreme card, should be able to support 'several' layers of Real Time playback before having to render. "Real Time" editing is a Fantasy. In many cases I can't even get TWO "Real Time" layers. Even when the entire timeline is "Real Time" green, you still have to render because of the various picture shifts and resolution changes as it tries to play everything back without stopping. And speaking of rendering, very often I'll render a timeline, save the days work and shut down properly only to find that my sequences have to be rendered ONCE AGAIN when I reopen the project! This is completely random and I just can't figure out why it happens at all, except for the fact that FCP is bound to unrender anything at the drop of a hat. Perhaps FCP is actually designed to unrender what shouldn't have to be unrendered. My 12 year old AVID runs circles around it in this respect. With AVID, if you render 10 tracks and then add a .tiff file with an alpha to track 11 ( a .tiff that would be a "Real Time" on its own) you have to render! With AVID, what is rendered becomes and remains Real Time video and adding a true Real Time file to the TOP layer would require no rendering at all. Is it just me, or is that really how they designed FCP? Sometimes when I re-render a timeline, the newer version will appear on the computer monitors, but the SDI output will be that of the previous version. This can really burn you when a client has you change one tiny detail and you see the change on the computer monitor but the DVD you make doesn't include the change. Again, this is a random occurrence that no one has been able to explain. Hopefully someone here can enlighten me as I'm simply tired of trashing various preferences and/or reinstalling operating systems and application software. There's about 1,000 other things that don't seem right, but these concerns top the list. In six months I either have to crawl back to AVID or forge ahead with FCP. As of right now though, I truly believe that Apple won't make the necessary software improvements by then and I'll have to go back to AVID and switch systems in mid-stream.

    Mark,
You express a misunderstanding of Safe & Unlimited RT playback.
The purpose of Unlimited RT playback is to keep pace with real-time playback. To do this, Final Cut will intentionally lower playback quality and even drop frames if it has do, and depending on your Timeline settings. If you set Timeline RT to Dynamic, then it will pre-calulate how much RT quality-frame-rate lowering it will have to do for each frame it plays back. That's why the quality goes up and down as it plays back in Dynamic RT.
The concept is that you can maintain your 'flow' as you create, not being forced to stop for a render. Then, when your creative flow pauses, you might want to render, or not.
Since Shane's already covered the v6.0.1 bug / v6.0.2 fix, I won't touch on that one.
The way FCP is designed, it doesn't typically render renders, as Avid does. FCP renders each frame of the composite, all layers, so that render file is the whole deal, not just a partial render that sits on top of or under other clips. So, FCP is designed that way. Love it or hate it, that's what it is.
    HTH.

  • My Airport is USELESS with Snow Leopard..What will it be with Lion?

    Mr Jobs,
Like you would every get this . I am super annoyed
wth Snow Leopard.I ususally wait for the second to last or
last version of an OS before I upgrade. The reason is
simple, my Apple computer has worked fine, I didn't
have any big need to upgrade and though I want to stay up to
date I hate to fix something that "ain't broken.:" Well
Snow Leopard has screwed up my MacBook Pro big time. My
trusty MacBook Pro 17 (old core duo) has paid the rent for
    since day one.
I am a Shooter/Director and need my laptop to work. I am a
more than adequate FCS editor. Snow Leopard has sent me
into a spin! My airport is useless. There is no simple
path to older software so though I may be 60 years old I
still need to use tools I have used or at least be offered
the option of moving forward to new ones. It is NOT YTOUR
    style.
I am writing this from my old G5, edit suite.  My MacBook Pro 17 is not able to connect to my Airport. My sister-in-law is in the next room with her MacBook Pro (same year as mine but 15") and on lien skype-ing and chatting and surfing. I can connect for more than 30 seconds and my "update software" is at the top of the chain. *****! I will be re-formating my hard drive and going back to Leopard SANS SNOW tomorrow! And folks spare me the silly advice.  If you buy an OS and install it and do the upgrades , it should work. That is what Apple is about. That is why I have bought and used Apple since DAY One.  I sold my TI and Commodore when I saw an Apple!
I know you will NEVER read this, but I needed to vent.
If you do, I will super happy to hear you did, you are well
and that you have passed it down the line.
Stay well and with us for a long time and all the great
    innovations!
    Best
    Brian Murphy

If I had a nickel for every time I saw someone blame a system update for something silly, I'd be quite rich by now.  If you believe reports on public forums, every release of Mac OS X has been the worst ever, which is obviously not true to anyone who has actually used all those systems.  So, while there may be a lot of people reporting wireless problems with SL, that does not make it fact that the cause of the problem is SL.  Fact: I have not seen wireless problems with any Macs running SL.
But, you seem not interested in listening to such things.  You know that it's SL's fault.  So there's really no solution for you but to revert to Leopard.  If you're interested in getting things working with SL, as I said, post back on a different topic with details.  (Since you started this topic with a bit of a rant, it's going to be difficult for you to get help on this topic.)

  • Power Supply??? Anyone have this problem?

    Hello everyone!
I have a few different things I am going to post but at the end they all go together so if you are bored read on.
I own an '07 Mac Pro 3GHz 8-Core and one day I started it up and it didn't come one. It had power but no video. I restarted it maybe 6 or so times for it to finally come on.
2 months later I start it up(yes I used it between this time) and it gets to the desktop and shuts off. I then try to start it and nada. So the next morning I try again and it chimes, gets to the gray apple screen and shuts off and has not started since.
I took it to an Apple repair shop(not Apple store but certified) and they are scratching their heads because this is usually a sure logic Board issue or Processor.
I myself had taken the time to fool with the diagnostic buttons and yes the Trickle Amber lights comes on but when I let go of he diagnostic button on the CPU1 & CPU2 Overtemp lights flashed.
So with no way to know what this means I just took a mental note about what lights did what and when.
    PART 2
I had been searching the webtubes anywhere and everywhere for Apple Service Manuals but to no end. They seemingly don't exist.
Well not so fast. Not only did I find the Mac Pro Service Manual for my '07 I found the '08 and others all for free.
So with the info I thought for sure I could figure out the problems with my computer but the repair shop still had it. Turns out the repair shop was so used to the Logic/Processor thing they hadn't actually really diagnosed the LED's properly as I assisted them in doing once I read the manual.
As I read the LED meanings it became quite clear to me what the problem is but yet I couldn't understand how.
To me the Amber Trickle LED meant that the power supply was ok but this isn't the case. There is an LED I think number 6 or 7 that when the front button is pressed turns green to show the Power Supply is up to par.
Just from keeping notes in my head I remember studying the LEDs and never did a green light show ever.
Armed with this I went to the shop today where the tech downloaded the Service Manual while I was there and we went over it together at which point I said to him that there was no Green Light.
So while he boringly read through the LED explanations I stared at his certifications and his cool little collection of Sponge Bob items which I love by the way. After a boring repeat of yada yada yada we make the anticipated trip over the the hog on the counter.
Just like I thought... no green light.
Now I can't believe all this hoopla over that. Something so simple was overlooked for a week.
I look at it like this. People tell me now, oh yeah it makes sense that it would be that now that it is saying that from the diagnosis LEDs but not one person even suggested that prior.
And I went and purchased a new 2.26GHz 8-core because I couldn't wait any longer for it to be fixed and thinking it was gonna be $700-$2000.
    Any thoughts???

It is very simple trust me.
I guess when the plug is in it still gets power(trickle power) enough to do little things and/or diagnose but the main power to boot up and run can still not work.
My guess is that it is made this way so they can still diagnose problems even when a power supply bites the dust so you know it is bad as well.
About the Overtemp lights here is the deal.
If you look at an '07 Mac Pro(can't speak for newer) behind the riser cards there is a row of LED's and words to explain why they are on, blink or whatever they do.
    Things like TRICKLE POWER, CPU1 & CPU2 FAIL, CPU1 & CPU2 OVERTEMP, and others.
Just like the SMC button there are two other buttons on the Logic Board near these LEDs'
If you press them they diagnose the computers issues and make the lights come on depending on the issue.
    BUT...
There are some of the LEDs that come on to show you power without having to press the diagnosis button. For example the LED #6 or #7(not sure) come on when the power is on, and in this case they don't, showing the Power Supply is not putting out the power. Even if it does and the power isn't sufficient this light will not turn on.
    So...
When you hit the power button only the Fan and Drives spin due to the Trickle Power(from what I have read) but the Logic Board is not getting power from the Power Supply to start up as shown by the GREEN LED not lighting up to indicate the Power Supply is working.
That is a pretty good explanation as good as it can be.
I can post a photo tomorrow when I get my new computer up and running to show you the Board and you will be like Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh that is simple.
As far as the fix. yes I would have just got a Power Supply but it was not know at the time. I basically figured it out myself.
I have no regrets about buying the new machine. I have clients that need their stuff done and I love to do it, plus now this will become my Maya machine until it is needed for backup or something.
NOTE: Who wouldn't still be excited to get the latest and greatest.

  • Help needed to track down Problem in tiger with Pioneer DVR-110D

ok as i stated in another topic i own a Beige G3 AIO that is running OS 9.2.2 and OS X 10.4.8 and i have done allot to this system to get it to run faster and to run properly.
part of this setup has a Pioneer DVR-110D it there and when i bought it i was running OS 9.2.2 only. at first i could not burn anything with it cause it wasn't supported and when i went to put the system to sleep it would freeze when i would wake it up it never did this before i installed the drive so i knew what was causing it.
i turned off HDD sleep and the problem was fixed. but i didn't like the ideal of having the hdd running all the time when idle. me and a friend was talking about optical drive issues and he said he found this driver replacement for the apple cd/dvd driver called intech speed tool's 6.0 for OS 9.2.2 and that i should give it a try cause it fixed a few problems for him.
i downloaded the demo of it and installed it and i turned on hdd sleep and put the system to sleep and woke it back up and the system was running great. so now the wake up freeze problem was cured. but still no burn support. so after a few weeks of posting on here about the problem some one came by and said he knew what the problem was and sent me a modded PioneerCDR authoring support extension. i installed it and rebooted and opened iTunes and iTunes showed Pioneer DVR-110D as the devise to burn to. so i tryed it and behold it burned a audio cd with no problems.
later i bought a western digital SE 120gb hdd and installed it and partitioned it 3 times a 8gb first partition for OS X a second partition 10gb for OS 9.2.2 and the 3rd partition was the rest of the drives size for shared data and storage. the hdd worked great with no issues so it was time to try OS X on this system cause i was waiting to get a large HDD to do so.
i figured that the Pioneer drive would not boot the OS X jaguar cd and is a known problem with non apple cd rom drives. so i took out the Pioneer and reinstalled the apple 24x stock cd rom drive. and the jag install cd booted without a hitch. Jag installed and was running so i updated to 10.2.8 and found out the internal screen kept going out and locking the system up. so i searched this forum for the onboard video blackout and came across the terminal work around to get the system to behave itself with having more than 192mb ram installed. i rebooted and all went fine afterward.
i reinstalled the Pioneer drive and went to testing it all was fine everything mounted on the desktop that i put in the drive. but i lacked the ability to burn with the drive cause still the drive wasn't supported be the system so i searched the forum and came across the program called patchburn. i downloaded it and ran it and patched the driver to support iApps burning with this drive. so i put in a blank cd and went to burn in iTunes it burned flawlessly so i tryed a dvd-r with the finder it to burned flawlessly.
o loved playing a game planeshift and then they stopped supporting 10.2.8 so i went to buy the tiger install cd's. i already knew the Beige G3 was not a supported version of Os X on this system and you had to use xpostfacto 4 to install tiger on this system. so i did what i had to do to install tiger on the system and selected use old NDRV and selected to install tiger. which installed some files to boot tiger and rebooted yet again the Pionner drive refused to boot the install cd's . i got mad and held down the command option power key's for about 10 seconds and let off. the tiger installer booted and got to where it started to copy the files to the hdd and stalled out and the drive spun down never to spin back up or show signs of life so i powered down the system and removed the pioneer drive and put the stock 24x cdrom in and installed tiger.
after tiger was installed i shut down the system and installed the pioneer drive. and powered back on and it was in verbose mode showing what was going on one part showed that the Pioneer drive was detected but had no kernel dependencies and continued to boot. i went to repair the permitions when the onboard video went blank and the system locked up. i rembered that 10.2.8 did the same thing so i tried the 10.2.8 screen blackout fix in 10.4 and rebooted. the onboard video didnt come on but since i had a ATI Radeon 7000 i could work around in tiger to update to 10.4.7 at the time. i first repaired permitions and then ran software update and updated everything and rebooted. the onboard video came back on allong with the ATI Radeon 7000 which being used as boot video device and shown the gray apple logo with the spinning pin wheel at the bottom.
so far tiger was running great so i put a disk in the drive and nothing it didn't mount anything so i ejected it with the button on front of the drive and tryed a dvd movie and got the same nothing as with the cd. so i rebooted with the dvd in the drive al behold tiger mounted the dvd but as soon as i would try to do anything with it the drive would stop and i would have to reboot the system to gain the drive back so i can repair permissions. and never tryed to use the drive again
10.4.8 update came out i updated to it using software update and rebooted. the update went flawless so i thought to myself what if the pioneer drive worked now. so i put a cd in the drive and it mounted the disk. then i ejected it with amazement and put a dvd in and it to mounted. so i tryed to play the dvd and it played the dvd to the end of the movie. i took out the dvd and rebooted. i tryed to put the dvd back in but it didnt mount. which ****** me off as to why it was just working and now its not.
i rebooted and the dvd mounted as soon as the desktop showed up so i tried to play it but this time it only played for about 10-13 minutes before the drive stopped spinning which made dvd player stop responding which made me have to force quit the dvd player and try to restart which gave me a kernel panic. so i forced restarted (got a forum to send to apple to report the KP so i did) and the dvd mounted once again as soon as the desktop showed so i ejected the dvd and put a audio cd in and it mounted and i played the hole cd. so i ejected that and put a blank cd in and treed to burn and it got to 30% and then the drive spun down and made the disk utility stop responding. so i forced quit disk utility and rebooted. once it rebooted nothing popped up so i pressed the eject button on the drive and the cd r came out.
the OS X 10.4.8 update made the drive more stable but still wont burn anything. some times it will still not mount anything, some time it will not play anything, and still fails to copy files over to the hdd. so now im left to believe its a driver issue some where since this drive worked so flawlessly in jaguar and OS 9 but fails to work properly in tiger.
i looked in the extensions in ASP in 10.4.8 and there is a few extensions showing errors. i made a list of them to show

that is the list of extensions that are reporting some sort of errors. at first i was figuring it was a problem with the driver for the Pioneer drive but my friend brought over his digital audio G4 which was also running 10.4.8. and we decided to try the drive in his Mac to see if there was any problems. it mounted everything we threw in it. it played dvd's great and played audio cd's great, it copied files over to the hdd without fail. it even burned a flawless cd. ok now the ideal of the driver for the drive was thrown out the window. so it has to be something else causing the problem. either a driver for a part on the motherboard or what i have no clue.
im just wondering what driver it would be causing a problem not allowing the Pioneer drive to work properly. cause its not the drive being bad cause it worked flawlessly in OS 9.2.2 and jaguar and in tiger in my friends digital audio G4
im just wondering if anyone might know what could be done to fix this problem cause i know it can be fixed but i don't know where to begin or how. so i ask you how could i begin to fix this
thank you all for baring with me and reading all this. i know i wrote allot but i had to explain what was going on before i could ask for help so you could better understand what was going on. i have already updated the firmware to the latest with no change the firmware use to be the old 1.11

yea i have along time ago and also made a update to xlr8's drive database. cause i fixed the problems with the drive in OS 9.2.2 (AKA no burn support with the built in burning app or iTunes, now have full support for burning with the finder burn and iTunes thanks to a edited PioneerCDR authoring support extension that someone edited for me. found out that the Apple CD/DVD driver extension was at fault for the locking up on wake up with hdd sleep enabled that started when i installed the Pioneer drive. fixed with intech CD/DVD speedtools 6.0).
When i did the first report on the drive database on xlr8yourmac i reported what problems i was having in OS 9.2.2 and i think i reported that i had no problems in jaguar, and was trying to obtain a driver or something to try to get it to work. but to no avail at first. after i fixed the problems i did a update report
in jaguar the drive had no problems but no burn support. installed patchburn and the drive worked 100% in jag no problems what so ever. im thinking it has somthing to do with one or all of the extensions with errors but i can be wrong.
i just wonder where ryan has been on the forums in OWC's site. cause i would like to submit my crash log panic log and the extensions with errors so he could help track down the problems to see if it cant be fixed. but ive tried emailing him but no replay's. and his last reply on the OWC forums was back in desember 2005 a few day's over a year
i know it isnt the drive cause it worked flawlessly in tiger 10.4.8 on my friends Digital Audio but i know why it worked fine cause it has the proper files for the DA to work cause its a supported system. i would like to try to help to get xpostfacto to work better on the Beige G3 system
in tiger if it is something to do with xpostfacto

  • Page Headers in XML Publisher report

    Hi,
I've created a table to display the item details. If this table goes to the next page then i have to display the column names in 1st record in the table...followed by the item details.Consider that i have item details with 100 lines. In the 1st page 50 lines are displayed. In the 2nd page i have to display a record as columnname headers followed by other 50 lines. Same for all the pages till all item details are displayed.
Can you please let me know how to display coumn headers if item detail lines goes to the next page.
    Thanks,
    Sri.

I haven't tried this myself but give this a go:
    1. In Word, highlight the Title Row
    2. Then go to Table > Repeat Header Rows. In Word 2007+ the Repeat Header Rows button is under the Layout section.
    3. Save, upload and re-run.
Do the table headers now repeat?
I believe this post will also help you: Header table to repeat on every page
