NWDI in NW architecture

Hi all,
Can the component NWDI be used in the same time by both usage type : (only one installation)
- PI (only CMS) with XI tracks
- EP (CMS + DTR + CBS) with java tracks
Can you confir to me :
If there is a Solution manager in the landscape the best is to install NWDI on the Java stack of it
If there is not one, install it on the Java stack of one of both usage type (PI or EP)
Thanks a lot for your precious help.
Jean-Charles

  • EP basics

    Hi EP gurus,
Rightnow i am working as BI consultant, and wanted to learn EP too, what should i have to study to get expertise in EP.
    Akshay,

    Hi akshay jain  ,
To learn EP this is the structure of EP u should learn:
    Enterprise Portal
    EP Overview
    Personalization, Security, Portal Platform Content
    User Management
    WebDynpro - Java
    NWDI Overview, WAS architecture
    EP refresh, NWDS, Webdynpro basics
Context Mapping & Data Mapping, Controller Mapping
    WebDynpro UI Designing
    WebDynpro Models
    What is EP Development?
EP Development consists of developing applications (known as iViews) that run in the Portal. These applications are typically built using Java technologies such as J2EE (JSP or Java Server Pages and EJBs (Enterprise Java Beans) , Web Dynpro, HTMLB for Java, XML, Web Services and more. Some development is also done using the PDK for .Net. The applications have to be able to run in the Portal, which runs on a Web Application Server, a J2EE engine that uses the Portal Runtime and, optionally, a Web Dynpro runtime. This requires that the developer be fairly familiar with Java.
The skills required for EP are :
Java programming skills - with exposure to JSP, Servlets and Beans - are the most desirable for an EP developer. Additionally JavaScript, XML, Web Services, ABAP and even HTML will come in handy.
Which training courses should I take?
Currently, the following courses are offered from SAP Education that are targeted for SAP EP Developers and Consultants.
    JA100 - Java Start-up Kit - Classroom, 5 days
EP150 - Java Development for the SAP Enterprise Portal and KM (4.7) - Classroom, 5 days
    JA300 - J2EE Start-up Kit - Classroom, 5 days

  • Import/Export SCA from NWDS/NWDI

    Hi,
Someone could support me during export SCA component from NWDS?
    I have following configurations:
Installed NWDS, done configuration development by import from SLD (track_DEV, without track_CONS). In preferences NWDS "System Landscape Directory" is set up with http://host:port. Ping passed.
Then when NWDS asking me to enter login credentials, everything passed ok, and in "Development infrastructure" perspective on the left in components browser I can see list of software components.
I have to export SCA from existing portal to file system, then developing, next - import back to portal. So, when I select "Export" from menu I got message " Nothing to build/export: No DC sources available on local file system". Sorry, I'm not developer, but I have to do this. NWDI architecture is little complicated.
It is possible describe this in few simply steps?
    thanks

    Hi,
Please go through the below blog:

    Hope this helps!!!

  • NWDI , CMS and XI tracks and SLDs..oh my...

I have an issue that is affect me from moving forward for our overall development effort.
I have PI/XI on one server that is server also used as a central SLD (psuedo central). I have installed JDI (NWDI) on another server also running an SLD and used as a central dev SLD (webdynpros etc...)
I am now building or rather starting to build my XI tracks however I am not sure if I am moving down the right path.
If I have an SLD on XI with other system pointing to it (i.e. Portal SRM CRM etc) and I have my JDI server running DTR and CMS how do I go about building my XI tracks.
Do I point back to the XI SLD or do I use my local SLD on the JDI for building the track on the NWDI server?
What would be the "SAP" way and what are any customer experiences/architecture.
I would like to ensure the least method to upset the apple cart and redo the JDI piece as other systems are using it now.
When I build my track do I use SLD on XI or the local JDi SLD and what are the ramifications if any.
    Thank you,
    Mikie Brogan

    Hello Mikie,
We have the same architecture and have a look at my blog
<a href="/people/praveen.mayalur/blog/2007/05/31/configuration-of-cms-in-central-nwdi-sld-to-transport-xi-objects">Configuration of CMS in Central NWDI & SLD to transport XI objects</a>
Hope this will resolve your concern.
    Thanks,
    Praveen
PS. Dont forget to reward the points.

  • Porblem with Java Proxy EJB deploy to XI through NWDI

Situation - I have a web app in Server A (WAS7), it needs to call a java proxy in Server B (XI WAS7). I want to deploy the Java Proxy EJB into the landscape using NWDI. To do this I created an external library with public parts that contains the required jars to build the java proxies. These are aii_msg_runtime.jar, aii_proxy_xirt.jar, and aii_utilxi_misc.jar. The EJB module used part is mapped to the library's public parts. Everything builds fine and the deployment was successful into XI.
Problem - When my web application makes a remote call to the java proxy in XI, NoClassDefFoundError occurs. The first jar that it complain about was aii_util_cimaccess.jar. I included this jar into the library and redeployed. Called the java proxy again, and got another NoClassDefFoundError exception. Now it wanted the lrcclient.jar. I included that into the library and redeployed. Now it wanted another jar. The issue is that all these jars are in the XI server and I shouldn't have to add them as part of the library. Is there a SCA out there that contains these jars, or did I just forget to mark a checkbox somewhere when creating the EJB so that it would reference the XI jars without me adding them to the library?
Note - This architecture works fine without having to add the jars above, if I deploy the Java Proxy EJB from my workspace to XI through the SDM process available through NWDS. This only breaks when I deploy through NWDI.
    Thank you in advance.

  • NetWeaver Development Studio 7.1 and CRM 5.0 ECom / NWDI

    Hi guys
I found on sdn that NWDS 7.1 is out and bundled with NW CE 7.1.
NWDS 7.1 is made around Eclipse 3.3
    My questions are :
    - Does anywone know the new features of this new version ?
    - Can I install it to work on CRM 5.0 E-commerce with NWDI ? I actually work on version 7.0.09, is 7.1 compatible with the server / dev architecture ?
    - Will I have to install another version of Java VM (I have 1.4.2_17)
Thank you for sharing your experience about that.
    Have a nice day

    Hello
I did the test, connected to my track and synced sources.
I have one problem in the jsp files : all the import are in error ! For example :
<%@ taglib prefix="isa" uri="/isa" %> there is an error : Cannot find the tag library descriptor for /isa
And all the import are like that, this is strange because the public parts are configured and it works fine on nwds 7.0 ...
    any idea ?
    thanks for your help
    julien
Edit : Another big problem : I can't deploy ... I build my custom dc like i do in 7.0, it builds, and when I deploy I receive a java.lang.NullPointerException ... I'll work on it to check all the configuration issues. To be continued. ..

  • Is there any template for this architecture?

We are going to have a new  SAP infrastructure which is total independent from our current one.
In this new one, we will have BI, PI, ECC, SM and SCM. Also a NWDI.
Is there a template about how to design the architecture?
If not, what will be the guide to design the architecture like this?
    Thanks!

    Hi  Christy,
Setting up a system along the lines mentioned will take a LOT of hard work and effort.
At a minimum your looking at 9 new SAP installations.
SAP PI & BI are MCD abap+java systems
    etc.
To be honest i could write you a paper on this setup about 10 pages long...........
There isn't any standard architecture, it depends on your customers / business size, etc. etc.
Oh and you might find this link VERY useful !

  • How to synchronize source code using distributed NWDI Servers?

    Hello,
I am facing a bit of a challenge trying to find documentation regarding the replication of source code using NWDI/DTR in a distributed environment. By distributed I mean independent instances in different geographical locations.
    Scenario
Our customer product (DCs/SCs/etc) will be developed by two teams. These teams are far away from each other, and a local dedicated NWDI instance for each team is a must, due to the distance plus the big size of the product. It should be possible for the teams to work on a same Track. We use a NWDI 7.31 instance.
I have been looking into the documentation and so far I found no guide on how to keep both repository updated with each other changes.
The following links make notes of the scenario but are not addressing the solution properly.
    Distributed Development
A synchronization of changes might have to be done between:
Workspaces present in the same repository.
    Workspaces present in different repositories.
    Developepment Infrastructure (DI) Architecture
Central source file management – in the Design Time Repository (DTR), a file storage in a database with export mechanisms that allow you to synchronize the instances of the DTR in a distributed development.
    Solution?
Does NWDI offers any tool to solve this kind of requirement? Am I missing any documentation?
Or, NWDI doesn't have a solution for this kind of scenario?
And by the way, I would expect a "smooth" integration between the servers, like automatic asynchronous replication, with proper managment of conflicts and all the other delightful paradigms of source control.
Are we talking about exporting source code and importing it on the other side? Would this be the only alternative, and how is it done?
    Thanks in advance.

A lot of obfuscators, rather than use one-letter method names, use keywords for names. This has the benefit of not decompiling to valid Java
Well, thats only true if you have a bug in your decompiler. My decompiler (jad) handles keywords by adding additional letters (underscores and stuff).
The problem is solved by an obfuscator. Compiled c++ code can be disassembled in the same way as obfuscated java byte code. So, if you were satisfied with the protection of your C++ code, then you should be just as satisfied with obfuscated java byte code.

  • NWDI in the XI Scenario - SLD

    Experts,
I have created a track to transport the XI content.
We have two SLD servers in the landscape. The first is used by XI and contains all the required XI business systems and the second is used only by NWDI and contains only the SC definitions.
    My question-
DOes the SLD for NWDI need XI system details???? According to my understanding, NWDI needs only the component information from the SLD.
Bascially, do i need to import the business system data into the SLD that is being used by NWDI???
    thanks,
    Vineeth

Did a little research and found that the SC information is sufficient for NWDI.

  • Deploy par files with code from NWDI

    Hello Experts,
I have migrated some par files to NWDI and they are deployed via SDM as SDA files.
From eclipse it is possible to deploy the par files with Code. Is this possible from NWDI that the par files are deployed with code to the portal server.
    Regards
    Sundeep

    Hi Satish,
I am using NWDS, and then check in the Portal DC which is then deployed on the runtime system.
My question is during deployment via NWDI is it possible that the par is deployed with code.
Earlier we were using eclipse for par based development, and this was possible in eclips.
With NWDI i dont think it is possible to control if the par should be deployed on the portal server with code included.

  • Broken image in case of transport via NWDI

I have a image file in a webdynpro application. I have placed it in the src -> mimes -> comps -> package folder.
When I deploy the application I can see the image on the application.
Now when I released the application from development to staging, the application works fine, but the image is not getting displayed. We get an 'X' mark in place of the image.
I checked the .ear file and extracted it. I can see the image file in the components-> package folder.
Also the .dcdef file of the application has the following:
    <i>     <folders>
              <source-folder>META-INF</source-folder>
              <source-folder>src/mimes</source-folder>
              <source-folder>src/configuration</source-folder>
              <package-folder>src/packages</package-folder>
         </folders</i>
We are using EP 7.0 SP11 portal and NWDI to transport the applications.
Please let me know how to solve the broken image issue.
    Regards,
    Vibha Singhal

    Hi Vibha,
Check if the image is added in the activity. You can check this way...
    - Go to Development Configuration Perspective
    - Expand the DC
    - Navigate to the location where you image is added.
Here you can see if the image is added to repository or not by checking the icon. If you see a blue color Hut symbol on your image then its not yet added your DTR repository. You can right click on the image (DTR -> Add -> )and add to you an acitivity then check in and release it.

  • What architecture is best for accurate data logging

    Hello,
I'm desiging some LabVIEW code for a standard DAQ application that is required to plot about 100 variables onto the screen on several different graphs and numeric indicators, as well as perform some simple feedback control and log data into a file once a second.
I've done this before, and used a simple state machine architecture, where one state takes care of my logging, and I have a timer vi in there that countsdown 1 second and then writes to file.  However, this method makes me miss a second every once in a while.
I started looking into the producer/consumer architecture as a possible remedy for this.  Because I hear it's good for running two things at different times, so I"ll have my quicker loop handling data acquistion, plots and feedback control, and my slower logging loop, executing once a second.  But I don't see how to implement this
    questions:
    1. is a simple producer consumer the right topology for my application?
    2. when I create my queue do I create it a 100 element array (my data for logging) and then enqueue that in my producer loop from my data acquistion, then pass that to the logging VI.... this seems wrong to me, cause I'm going to be enqueing alot of 100 element arrays... and will be de-queing them slowly at once a second..
    3. How do I trigger my consumer loop to execute every second, should I set it up as a timed while loop? or should something from the producer loop tell it to?
I'm sure this is a pretty standard thing to do, I'm jus tnot sure how to implment the correct architecture.
    much thanks!

Ok, let's try this.  I've put together an example that should do what you need.  I put notes in the block diagram, but essentially it runs data in a while loop at whatever execution rate you specify, then sends the data to another graph (or in your case, a log) every one second.  Basically, I've used a 100ms execution rate for the while loop, then every 10th time (you can change this if you want), it sends a boolean 'true' to a case structure within the while loop that contains the enqueue element.  The graphs that I included show that it does indeed add a new point to the second graph once a second while the first one is adding a point every 100ms.
The actual wiring of this Vi could be cleaner for sure, but it was a quick and dirty example I put together.  Hopefully this will help you accomplish what you're trying to do.

  • Single Sign on in a 3 tier architecture between SAP Netweaver CE and R/3

    Hi All,
I am trying to implement SSO using SAP logon tickets in a 3 tier architecture between NW CE and R/3. But so far I have not been able to crack this.
Let me describe the scenario in detail:
We have two Java EE applications on Netweaver CE7.2 Application Server:
    1. UI: Just handles all the UI logic : js, jsp, css, html, extjs .It calls the Business Layer Java EE application to get data from back-end systems.
    2. Business Layer: Calls R/3 SOAP services does some processing on them and exposes the data back to the UI via a Restful JSON service (implemented using Java Spring framework)
Both UI and Business Layer Java EE applications define login modules to be used for SAP logon tickets. So the architecture is like this:
    UI-RESTfull-->Business LayerSOAP->ABAP R/3
So ideally when the UI link is clicked it prompts the user for authentication (uses CE UME) and then the UI applications calls the Business Layer which then calls R/3. This unfortunately doesn't work. The authentication between UI and Business Layer Application fails.
However if you remove the Business Layer Java EE application and call the SOAP service directly from the UI. SAP logon tickets starts working.
So I have been able to make SAP logon tickets work with the following 2 tier architecture:
    UI---SOAP--->R/3
    So my Question is:
Is there a way to use SAP logon tickets in a 3 tier architecture between NW CE and R/3 (For the scenario described above)? Any help/pointers/documentation links would be great

    Hey Martin,
To enable SSO I updated web.xml and engine-j2ee.xml for both UI and Business Layer application according to the login module stacks defined (the first one) in the following link:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_NW70EHP1/helpdata/en/04/120b40c6c01961e10000000a155106/content.htm
Initially both UI and Business Layer had the same entries for web.xml and engine.xml. But since this was not working I did all kinds of testing. For UI i used FORM based authentication and for Business Layer I was using "BASIC" authentication.
    I tested the following Scenarios:
    1. Without any changes to the above XML files: The Business layer rejects any requests from the UI . I checked the Browser and "MYSAPSSO2" cookie was created. Somehow UI doesnt use this to call Business Layer. Or the Business Layer rejects the token itself
    2. I removed authentication from the Business Layer application (Web.xml) keeping the UI same: The call went to R3 but returned a "UnAuthorized" error back. In this case also at the browser level "MYSAPSSO2" token was created but was not used by the business layer to call R3.
    3. The did all sorts of permutation and combination with the sample login modules provided (See link above) on both UI and Business Layer application . Nothing worked. All combinations led to two results which were the same as 1 and 2
It seems all this is happening because of another application in between UI and R3.
    Hope this Clarifies.
    Thanks,

  • Backup of NWDI webdynpro customizations

Is there a way to backup NWDI webdynpro customizations? I have a query.
The webdynpro objects were customized and assembled, thereby creating many 5 KB files of ESS, MSS, PCUI etc. Because of the webdynpro customization, there are hundreds of broken DCs. So I would like to backup all these customizations (i.e. the SCAs files in assemble directory)  and the other webdynpro customizations into a seperate place and then proceed with installation of a new track right from scratch, then install the required SCAs and later re-apply those customizations. Is there any way to do it. Points will be rewarded for any kind of help.

    Hi Lekha
    Thank you
I feel that i am in a right track, these are the steps i followed
    1. Downloaded SAPLink 1.0.4 version
    2. Created a report , activated and executed it
    3. Used the downloaded Nugget file as import parameter and executed successfully
    4. Downloaded SICF,Webdynpro Component,Application, plugins
    5. Imported the .nugg / .slnk files and activated then in SE24,
    6. Created a new NUGGET and added an object
         a. webdynpro component
         b. webdynpro application
my doubt here is it is showing all the classes which i used in my program, do i need to manually import all the classes one by one or it will automatically import all the files which i used,
if you have any idea which are the plugins to be used and which are all the objects need to be added to the Nugget.
    Thanks and Regards
