NXT ultrasonic sensor problem

I guess there is some hardware problem with my NXT ultrasonic sensor , there is a try me option and when I try it to use ultrasonic sensor it makes sounds when something gets close to it ( now it only makes sound when I put something extremely close to it ), other than this it has an option to measure distance in cm , but it can measure no more than 7 cm wheras the booklet that came with it says that it can measure lenghts upto 255cm .
Anyone had this problem before ?? or can you help me out ?
Thanks in advance

Hello dumba16,
What software are you using to test the device? What firmware are you using? Are you using an example program? If the program is an issue you could post the code so that we can verify its functionality. Have you been able to get any other sensors to work successfully?  If the device is malfunctioning you may want to contact the vendor that you purchased the device from.

  • Can I turn off ultrasonic sensor or the ports?

    Hi every one,
I'm a new user for Labview NXTToolkit.
Before this I just had used Robolab...
    The question is:
If I use two ultrasonic sensors
in one NXT brick at the same time,
can I shut down one of them, or just
    turn off the port?
They used to measure different direction,
but can't turn on at the same time.
How can I solve this problem?
Anyone would like to show me some hints,
    Thanks a lot.
    Billy

Note that this is a hardware limitation, not a software limitation.
To solve this problem, each ultrasonic sensor would have to emit a
uniquely encoded signal and discard any signals it read that were not
of its own encoding.  Personally, I don't know all the technical
details of how the ultrasonic sensor works, so I'm not even sure if
encoding the signals is feasible (or cost-effective).  Even if it were,
I imagine only new ultrasonic sensors would do the encoding -- there
probably wouldn't be a way to update all of your old sensors.  But I'm
    just speculating.
In any case, I have not heard any
rumors about LEGO changing this behavior, so waiting for LEGO, NI, or
RoboLab to solve this problem for you isn't a great idea.  I would
recommend you explore alternate solutions.  Can you get enough data
about distance in one direction using some other sensor (touch or light)?

  • Acquiring data from an ecoder and Ultrasonic sensor

I have a controller card PCI-7340 and UMI-7774, connected to my PC, I want to implement an autonomous vehicle through mounting a quadrature encoder for velocity and position feedback and an ultrasonic sensor for obstacle determination and avoidance, and I am implementing now a fuzzy controller to make a control system capable for moving the vehicle, but my problem that i don't know how to acquire the data from the encoder or the U/S sensor in order to enter it to the Labview code, knowing that I am using a PWM circuit for speed control and amplification of analogue voltage out from the UMI-7774, if u have an example or u can give me a guide to how implement this on Labview.

  • Ultrasonic Sensor

I have tested the Ultrasonic sensor using the brick and it works.  However, with the program I have written gibberish numbers appear such as 950 or 150.  I know I'm missing something but I don't know what.  I suspect it's something with the flatten to string like I'm not just flattening a number but the cm or in string value.  Thanks.

I think the problem from using flatten to string so I replace it by number to decimal string.
the attatchment is your file but I use number to decimal string block. I hope that work.

  • Ultrasonic Sensor daqmx

    Hey people,
I am currently working on a project to test ultrasonic sensors (Pepperl+Fuchs UB4000-30GM-H3-4Dt04) using the continous measurement and logging message handler labview template. I am using an NI 9425 digital input and an NI 9475 digital output module. In my attached program I am able to display the digital signal as well as show the initial trigger that sends the pulse from the sensor out. Unfortunately I cant figure out how to display the echo pulse (response) of the sensor. Another relevant issue is that whenever the sensor triggers a pulse, the digital signal goes to 0 and stays there even after the VI is closed. The only way ive been able to get the digital signal back to a 1 is to disconnect and reconnect the input module. any help, feedback, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. thank you!

    Hey,
actually I am also working on a project with an ultrasonic sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs.
I would like to measure the time my ultrasonic impulse needs to travel to the nearest object.
I have some problems in triggering the signal and getting a precise time value and I would
really appreciate any help. Maybe you where able to fix that problem last summer ?
Thanks in advance for any help!
I am using Labview 11.0. It would be so cool, if you would post your VI's for that version.
    Best greetings,

  • GPU diode sensor problem?

The GPU diode temperature is -128C  (temperature monitor) and blank (istatpro).
After some heavy use, the two programs are showing some readings, but the GPU diode temperature is much lower than the others (CPU, Heatsink, etc).
Is this a problem of the sensor?
    (macbookpro 17”, early 2011).
    Thnxs for your help.

    Hi,
I know this is an old thread - but I came across it while searching for info as to why my precious MBP had the same issue. I believe I may have an answer, so wanted to post.
I noticed that the bug is not related to iStat as every other temp app I have used says the same thing. I also know it's not a sensor problem as I have run the Apple diag disk and a friend of mine who works in an Apple shop took a look and he says there's no problem either.
I downloaded gfxcardstatus as suggested in this thread, and I can see that when using the intel HD card, the temp is ~110c, when using the 330M it's ~50c, but here's the weird thing - when I try to switch to intel when certain apps are running, I get a warning saying that I cannot do this. If you click on the [Why?] button, you are taken to an explanation on the author's site, which says that the discreet card is never really turned off when certain apps are running - ie. 2 cards.... so I believe that the ~110c is a COMBINED reading for both cards which are running together but should not be. It's quite plausible that the intel HD would be running at ~60c, so there's your 110c.
Here's a pic of the authors site explaining the issue -
The best option would appear to be to keep it on the discreet card.
I hope this helps put other's minds at rest!!
PS. For me, the trigger apps are Little Snitch and iStat Menus.

  • Nxt infrared sensor output

    Hello,
I am working on a project that involves the lego nxt mindstorm. In my labview block diagram, I have the nxt infrared sensor connected to a waveform output. That is, a waveform is displayed according to the movement of the robot and the infrared sensor.
I am writing to find out if it is possible to make the output numbers instead of a waveform. Basically, I don't want it to draw a graph, I want to read the output as numbers. Better yet, it could also draw the graph but I also want to be able to get the numbers.
    What function do i use?
    Any suggestion is definitely appreciated.
    Thank you.

    Hi olams,
You should be able to right-click on the output terminal and select Create»Indicator.  It sounds like this waveform graph is not the standard output for that VI, so creating an indicator should make a numeric output.  Thanks.

  • Help in the programming of the Hc-sr04 ultrasonic sensor

Hi im new in labview, i have to connect the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor to the SensorDAQ, and i have to measure the distance betwen the sensor and an objetc, i have done a little program but the distance is very erratic, and i have seen an example but i dont underestand all the code in the example, so i dont know how to change it to do what i need, later today i will put the to vi's, the one i did and the one i have found, my code is very short adn the code i found i terrible long.
If my program is bad, can you tellme where adn why? or is not the code the sensor requieres please tell me.
If the example i add the code i really need can you explain me all the parts, and how to change it in order to function with the sensordaq.
Can you tell me how to wire the sensor to the sensor daq? i will add my connection diagram and photos so you can help me.
I have to make a tank sensor with the data of this sensor, and control a stepper motor with it, if the level is less than 20% use the stepper to open a valve, is its gratter than 80% close the stepper.
Other thing i need is when the level of the tank is gratter than 80% another mottor, non steper have to be turned on and must be running for a set time. when this set time is over a signal of "empty the tank" must be displayed.
I think is a lot of help what i need, i have wired the stepper mottor(bipolar 4 wires motor)  and i make it run, i dont know how to make it run in either direction so I have to fix this.
I'm going to add photos and my vis later today, please helpme, the most important thing is to make the sensor to work.
    THANKS FOR THE HELP.
    Solved!

    Hi nmerzul.
There are two ways to perform DAQ tasks. One is with the DAQ assistant (the one that you are using) and the low level steps (the one of the example). Basically they both work the same. The difference is that you can configure all the settings in one step with the DAQ Assistant and with the other method you can do it step by step. I modified the example with a lot of notes so you can understand the functionality of each step.
Now, to help you with the wiring of the sensor and the DAQ, could you tell me what DAQ you are using?
    Thanks

  • How to create a voltage output based on an ultrasonic sensor input

For a school project we are trying to use an ultrasonic sensor to control the voltage sent to a group of leds. We calibrated the sensor and determined six different voltage levels that we wished to output to the leds based on the voltage input to the sensor. We set up a labview program and were going use one of the mathnodes that allows code to be written to send a signal to a case structure to send the output voltage. Each case has a different output voltage associated with it. We can't seem to get the math node to work with the case structure to get an output. I have attached a screen shot of our block diagram and a copy of our .vi file. If anyone has any input it would be appreciated.

    Hello,
Have you used highlight execution or probes to confirm the output of the Mathscript node? Also, though LabVIEW is coercing your output, it is not best practice to wire a double (floating point) to a case structure (discrete cases). I would recommend changing the data type to an integer.
Please let me know the results of the probe steps.

  • Is apple ever going to respond to proximity sensor problems?

apple has responded to the antenna problem, how about this one? i HATE my iphone becaus eof the proximity sensor problem. i hang up on calls all the time.

I had the same problem. I took it to the Apple Store. The man helping me said that the sensor was hardware. No software fix he was aware of. I demonstrated the problem to him. He brought out a store phone to compare to. He simply said "I'm sold" and he brought me a new phone immediately. He also placed mine in a special case with my name printed out on the label to be sent to Apple so that they could examine the phone and try to learn more. Indeed, I believe that they are concerned, but I also believe that they will have to have more returns before it becomes a serious issue to them. By the way, my new phone is "better" but I still occasionally "Cheek dial" or hang up on people. I have found that sliding the phone back a bit so that my ear canal is not directly over the sensor works, and I can still hear the call. Hopefully a software fix WILL resolve this, since a reset has helped some.

  • DaNI following a moving object using it's ultrasonic sensor

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone would be able to point me in the right direction/ help me out.
Is it possible to program daNI to follow a moving object throught the use of it's ultrasonic sensor?
I ask as i aim to (hopefully) create a platoon of daNI using this program.
So far I've seen an awesome example of a daNI platoon from the UCLA Mechanical Eng. department, found here:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/12902
If i read correctly, UCLA used an infrared sensor to get the daNI to follow each other.
My project aims to have a lead daNI that follows a specified path (or even just a straight line) and the following daNI will use the program I'm requesting further info for.
Regardless, if anyone could share any knowledge, links, or example code to kick me in the right direction, I would be very thankful.
    Many Thanks,
    Mike ^^,

    Hello,
I think the examples in that link are using the ultrasonic sensor, you can see the little sensor moving left to right on top and they have placed a sheet of paper to get a good 'bounce'.
Getting a daNI to follow in a straight line should be fairly straightforward as you can get a distance and use that as feedback for your motors. I think using daNI's onboard sensor to follow a curved path would be quite difficult. In the linked video you can see that the robots are quite slow as they have to perform an entire sweep of their sensor before they can act. Traditional following systems use 2 sensors placed a distance apart from which you can measure the intensity of a sent signal and therefore calculate a rough position.
In terms of material, the courseware is pretty good for getting you started with daNI:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/6491
Otherwise a browse of the Robotics community is a great place to go:
    https://decibel.ni.com/content/community/zone/labviewrobotics
(this might be of some interest: https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-18154)
    Hope this helps.

  • Creating ultrasonic sensor?

    Hi guys,
I am doing a project on Labview, called car parking occupancy using sensors.
fist i need to create the sensor module on LabView, Basically an ultrasonic sensor will detect the object send the signal.
I would be really appreciate if you have any ideas...
So is there any chance to get help?

****the features of the system will be
when an object perceived by sensor a led light will be turn in to red.
the system will detect how many occupied and unoccupied space in the
car parking area (numeric display and that's what I
    meant micro-controller)******
Based on the above statement I think your simulation boils down to the following:
Place 5 Boolean switches on the front panel, to simulate the sensor inputs. You manually control them.
Place 5 LEDs on the front panel, Red means occupied, Green means available.
Place 1 numeric indicator on the front panel, this will hold the number of cars parked.
Place a Stop button on the front panel, to end the simulation.
    On the block diagram:
Study up on what type of  "structure" you will need to use, while loop, for loop, whatever you find is best.
Look at all the math functions, add, subtract, formula node (under structures) and so on.
You might have to review how to wire connectors together.
Of course once you connect the actual DAQ to the system additional "parts"  will need to be added to input the Actual sensor signals to replace the switches.
So try to wire all this up and see what you come up with.
    Alan
