  • 3 posts in one on the Leopard "installation and setup" forum

I just posted a topic "Cannot disable trackpad pinch open & close" on the Leopard "installation and setup" forum and the topic was posted 3 times.
I first previewed my post, then posted the message from the preview pane. Interestingly, it took the forum server a very long time to display the preview pane ... and then a very long time (several minutes) to post the message after i clicked the post button.
I did not get impatient and click any buttons twice ... I just waited, and somehow the message got posted 3 times. I can believe I did something inadvertent on my end ... but impatiently hitting the preview and post buttons while waiting was not it.
If someone with power can remove 2 of the 3 repetitions, I'd appreciate it ... I couldn't figure out how to delete them myself

Thanks. Is there a direct channel to the moderators anyone can use in circumstances like this?
This is it. The Feedback forum is the place to post requests for the Hosts.
I'd like to find out why my posting actions are generating multiple postings.
This has been happening to many people and as Terence mentions seems to be a fault in the forum software. Some have noticed that it occurs when there appears to be a server lag. That is, they'll click the button to post and there will be a long lag in response from the web site, and then even though they never clicked another button, several posts will appear.
    It's not anything you did.

  • SAP Server Console - Inquiry on installation and setup

    Hello,
I will be doing a setup of an SAP Server Console for the first time. It is necessary because we are moving all systems to a new data center. Based on my reading, the tool can be used to provide telnet and web access to an SAP system which I think is the main purpose why we have one.
In line with the installation and setup, I have the following questions:
    1. In the installation guide, it mentioned that there are two ways of info exchange with SAPConsole namely via telnet and via web server. To confirm that what we have is info exchange via telnet, it is enough to check that sapcnsl command is executable and that we have georgiasoftworks installed in the server?
    2. Also in the installation guide, it explained that SAPGUI on the machine where SAPConsole is installed is no longer necessary as of 7.10. How can I check the version where my SAPConsole is currently running on?
    3. Since the setup that I'll do will be some sort of "migration", can anybody provide a checklist to ensure that the setup that I have with the old server will be exaclty the same as in the new one? I have read the installation guide for Standalone SAPConsole 7.10 and it does not show a backup/restore process. I am assuming that I will need to start from scratch but I am wondering if there's a procedure to make the "restore" to the new server seamless like making sure that the profiles that exist in the old server will exist in the new server after moving it.
    4. Is there a different profile that is needed to access the configured system in SAPConsole? Or if you have SAP system access to the system, do you automatically have access to the same system via SAPConsole?
By the way, besides Standalone SAPConsole 7.10, I have already read SAP Notes 190005 and 1043241 as well. If there's any other useful note that you can recommend, I'll appreciate and take a look.
    Thanks!

I think i have managed to get the answers for 1 and 2:
    1. SAPConsole is only being used for RF guns therefore only for telnet connection
    2. We are currently running on 640 which was delivered together with SAPGUI
Now, my main concern is #3 or on how to make all the settings the same in the new server for SAPConsole after moving it to a new hardware. I am thinking of some files/folders and registry entries.
    Please advise.

  • WVC54GC Installation and Setup files

I can't find the installation and setup files for WVC54GC version 1.1.  The only files located on the download page is the firmware update and manual.  But for WVC54GC version 1.0 the installation and setup files are available along with the manual and firmware update.
Should I assume that the version 1.0 installation and setup files will work with version 1.1?

If you can see the Setup wizard for WVC54GC v1.0, you can download and install it for the WVC54GC v1.1 from the Linksys/Cisco website or you can download it from the link: http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/support/cameras/WVC54GC

  • [Solved] installation and setup question - gummiboot and EFI

    Hi,
This is the first time i'm installing arch. i hit the below issues. hope someone can help me out. my understanding of uefi is just about an hour worth of reading or less..
(the wiki didn't mention the kernel requirement when I started installing it... now it does and i updated the beginner's guide wiki post.)
    Problem
Gummiboot#Installing says that "If you are still running kernel 3.7 or have not booted in EFI mode, creating the boot entry will fail. You should however still be able to boot gummiboot as it copies the binary to the default EFI binary location on your ESP (/boot/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI on x64 systems). "
the gummiboot part fails. gummiboot gives this error at install  saying file system is not FAT EFI, so first I got gummiboot and gummiboot-efi both using pacman. then, I provided the --path to install and now it coughs up because the latest iso isn't 3.8 yet.
Failed to access EFI variables. Is the "efivarfs" filesystem mounted?
I can see efivars but this is asking for efivarfs.
    so instead I did,
    # cp /usr/lib/gummiboot/gummibootx64.efi /boot/efi/EFI/gummiboot/gummiboot.efi
    # efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p 1 -w -L "Gummiboot" -l '\EFI\gummiboot\gummiboot.efi'
how do I set this up? I'm afraid if I overwrite /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI  windows might not boot.
after the installation (of course without gummiboot stuff) now when I reboot, I don't see any gummiboot menu at all because i didn't copy it to EFI/BOOT. it goes straight to windows 8 boot. during boot if I press F12 and see the menu option on thinkpad, I see gummiboot as the first entry(must be because of efibootmgr) followed by windows boot manager. When I select the gummiboot and enter, it just circles back to the same menu. I have setup the loader.conf and arch.conf as described in the wiki.
how do I set gummiboot to work? i dont mind pressing F12 and then going to gumiboot-> arch until 3.8 is out.
If this isn't possible, can I install rEFInd without messing gummiboot? looking at the dir structure of FAT EFI I think it should be possible but not 100% sure until i try it out. Also, to get rid of gummiboot, i should delete the directories, uninstall using pacman and get rid of the efibootmgr change I made, right?

sidneyk wrote:Maybe not, I use rEFInd and mount ESP on /boot/efi and copy over updated kernels and initramfs. Maybe if you are mounting ESP at /boot the kernel and initramfs get written to both places at once, I don't know. I also don't know if /boot is where gummiboot expects them to be.
I realize this has been at least partially addressed by others, but I want to make two points very explicit:
In Linux, partitions (or more precisely, the filesystems that most of them contain) are accessed by mounting them at a mount point (a directory). Thus, when you mount the ESP at /boot, the contents of /boot are the ESP. Put another way, mounting the ESP at /boot means that to read or write the ESP, you read or write files and directories under /boot. You can test this yourself by mounting and unmounting a partition that's not basic to the minute-to-minute functioning of the computer. The ESP will actually work fine for this. Unmount it from /boot or /boot/efi and then issue a mount command to mount it elsewhere (say, "mount /dev/sda1 /mnt"). Then check the files under your temporary mount point, and even copy a file there. You can then unmount it and mount it back where you normally do and look for the file you copied -- it should be there. Play with this until you fully grok it.
Gummiboot runs before Linux, and it has no conception of Linux mount points. Thus, whether you mount the ESP at /boot, at /boot/efi, at /home/fred/abadmountpointforanesp is irrelevant, so long as the files on the ESP are laid out in the way that gummiboot expects. The trickiest aspect of this for those unfamiliar with the Linux mount system is that you do not include the Linux mount point in filename references for pre-boot programs like gummiboot. That is, if you mount the ESP at /boot and place the kernel at /boot/vmlinuz, then in gummiboot, the kernel would be \vmlinuz.
Yeah, I figured this out based on the OP's response to that and thinking it through, I just never really thought about it much before now. But I will argue that the mount point /boot and the EFI partition are indeed 2 different locations. I know that once the ESP is mounted at /boot that this distinction disappears until it is umounted and something written to /boot, but while mounted as such, /boot and ESP are virtually the same, at least to the Linux system. I realize the EFI programs are ran before any OS and therefore don't really care about any OS specifics.
I wonder if the OP has confused the info between gummiboot and rEFInd (possibly from the Beginners Guide) because to me, after reading the gummiboot wiki, it just seems that it would be much simpler to just give gummiboot what it wants, i.e. ESP mounted at /boot, whether it's a separate partion or not. I'll have to take a look again at the Beginners Guide to see again the order of things there, but if it isn't, maybe it should be having the user ensure that pacman has completely updated the new system and then go on to the boot loader specifics. I was just thinking though, that the way the install medium is now, that it was automatically pulling the latest stuff down as part of the install process. I know it's not pulling testing or multilib without user intervention, but the core, stable stuff it is. That seems to be part of the confusion here maybe, 2 different versions of gummiboot with gummiboot changing some things between the 2 and maybe the kernels, too.
[EDIT] I took another look at the Beginner's Guide and it says that most users will probably want to use the [core], [extra], and [community] repos, which are enabled by default. It goes on to recommend that [multilib] be enabled for users wanting to run 32 bit programs and then reminds you to run #pacman -Sy to update the package lists, but not #pacman -Syu which would apply any changes from the repos since starting the install. Shouldn't matter much, even if the [multilib] repo was enabled because at that point no 32 bit libs have been installed, but it would matter if a user decided to enable the testing repos.
I wouldn't ordinarily recommend it, but in this case, if the OP is comfortable with the risk, then it might be useful to, at least temporarily, enable the [testing] repo and do #pacman -Syu to pull in the 3.8 kernel. Note that this is likely to also pull in other packages from [testing], but if you haven't installed X yet or any desktop environment, then what is pulled in shouldn't be too overwhelming. He can then immediately go back and disable [testing] if desired. I'm currently using testing without any issues, but there are risks to doing so.

  • VS_Community installation and setup

When trying to install VS_Community, all I get is "Setup detected an issue during the operation.  Click below...".  Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

How are you installing from the ISO? Burn to DVD, mount on virtual optical drive (which software), or extract files to HD and install from there?
If you are using VOD software, some is problematical. I suggest you try alternatives.
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2011/04/19/how-to-extract-the-contents-from-an-iso-file-without-burning-the-iso-to-disc.aspx
"Extract the .ISO files to your hard drive.
Contents of .ISO image files can be accessed directly using third-party tools that allow file extraction from the file to a temporary folder on your hard drive (similar to .zip files). As with the virtual drive, this approach is advisable to install application
software or system upgrades. An example of this approach is the creation of an installation thumb drive to install software on netbooks or other devices with no optical drive.
The following tools offer .ISO file support:
    IsoBuster
    CDmage
    Daemon Tools
    Winrar
Note: While other products may work to manipulate .ISO files, they have not been tested and are not recommended by Microsoft."

  • SiteMinder installation and setup guide

I want to know the procedure and order to be followed for setting up and configure SiteMinder 6.0.

    Hi,
I might have misunderstood your question but IF you are actually wondering:
"Is there anything special I need to do after installing the Sun Directory Server to use it as my ldap DS?"
    Then my answer is:
Nope! You just need to specify the port on which your Sun DS happens to be running on your machine during the SiteMinder installation...and voila it will store its config data on it!
In case you want appropriate instructions on how to install Siteminder itself...shouldn't there be a docs folder with plenty of installation pdf's included in the Siteminder 6.0 cd that you bought?
    Cheers,

  • Where is there good, straightforward installation and configuration docs?

I have installed BI server on a linux box, and the client on a Windows box. we aren't using the default rpd, but rather the OBIA7960, Business Intelligence Applications. I created an 11gR2 database for the obia7960 schema, put the new rpd in OracleBI/server/repository, created the directory under OracleBIData/web. However, there are configuration problems: What nees to be configured on the client box? ODBC? How should the odbc.ini file be configured on the server, if at all? What about the instanceconfig.xml? variously, I'm getting log in errors trying to get into xmlpublisher: oracle.apps.xdo.security.ValidateException. Where is a good source to find examples of what these files should look like?

Thanks for the reply. I have used the 'official' documentation of course, but that is part of the problem. Anyway, yesterday I went through the installation from the beginning. Everything works up to validation the installation, i.e. the bi server check and the client check with nqcmd. However, the steps that need to be done and what configuration needs to be done in odbc.ini, instanceconfig.xml for web, presentation, and scheduler, etc. are unclear once a different rpd is used. Also, on the client side, a Windows box, how much is ODBC used or is it TCP through the Oracle client tools? The environment is this:
Linux Server with BI Server processes and 11gR2 database with BI Applications schema. The rpd is the OBIA OracleBIAnalyticsApps796.rpd. Where does this name have to be set in the configuration of the files on server side and client side?
The client is an appropriate Windows box with the Administrator and other client tools.
The confusion arises in the connection between data sources....the database schema or the rpd? Where and how do those need to be set?
Hope this clarifies my issues a bit more. Thanks

  • Practice installation and setup

    Hi
We have 3 ESXi servers in production, running all our servers as vm's.
It so happens, I now have a couple of servers (64 bit capable) and a storage-unit available. (turned off, not in production)
Is it safe (not interfering with production) and OK (not violating license agreement) to install a ESXi, 60 days trial, on these servers for test/educaton while they are connected to the same LAN as the production envirionment?
(vm's will be run on a closed network on the test environment)
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    that's absolutely OK.

  • "An Office 2003 installation on your computer is corrupted and setup cannot continue" error on Office 2010 Pro install

I am currently trying to install Office 2010 Pro Plus onto my machine that has Access 97 and Access 2003, Visio 2003, Excel 2003, PowerPoint 2003, and Word 2003 installed. I need to keep the previous versions of Office installed as they are used for development
work. When I try installing Office 2010 I've stopped with the following error message: "An Office installation on your computer is corrupted and setup cannot continue. Remove or repair the Office 2003 product and re-run setup." I can't remove and
repair doesn't seem to do anything. Most posts suggest removing previous office versions or deleting/altering the MS Office registry keys (which would damage the previous versions of Office). Is there a solution to install Office 2010 independently of any
    other version of Office installed?

I figured out a method to finally install Office 2010 bypassing the error stated in the title, by manually removing all the keys that included the term "Office 2003" from the Windows registry.
I share my fix with more details and pictures step by step here :
    Link
Please note that you need to be very careful when manually editing the Windows registry as it may cause problems to your operating system and even cause a massive failure requiring you to re-format your disk.
Feel free to use my fix at your own risk. I will not be held responsible for any damage caused or data loss.

  • Oracle Flexcube installation and documentation?

    Hi all,
I am looking for documentation and software requirements to setup Oracle Flexcube. The only documentation I can find so far is the brochure from Oracle:
    http://www.oracle.com/us/industries/financial-services/046907.html
I understand that Flexcube was a product developed by Bangalore India team years ago and then acquired by Oracle. However, I cannot find the installation and configuration documentation for Oracle Flexcube and I also cannot find where to download the Oracle Flexcube software either.

  • I have the new Oracle 8i installer and here is why

I have been trying to get Oracle 8i on Linux and I feel that I
    must share
my thoughts on the new Oracle installer with everybody.
I hate the new installer. I used to run the installer from
    home over my
128Kbps connection while I was connected to the office machines,
    because it
was simple text based. And Oracle 8i has changed all that!
I have nothing against GUI based installers, only when they have
    a little too
many animated images that eat up bandwidth. I had to drive all
    the way to
the office because I did not have sufficient bandwidth to display
    the darn
ringing bell animated image. This is strictly the mentality of
    Windows users
who like to work on the console of servers.
    And check this out:
line 118 in my install log file at :
    /usr/local/oracle/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions.log
    says :
    platGroup = WINDOWS
And this is on Linux!!! Maybe the Oracle folks are forgetting
    that Linux
users are a little too sensitive to these kind of mistakes. :)
This also supports my theory that the new installer is a gift
    from Windows
programmers. Who are not too familiar with the idea of being
    able to send
their video display to any computer around the world and work
    from there.
A feature every Linux user takes for granted
There are numerous other bugs in the installer and other routines
    of Oracle
8i for Linux. Some of them I will list here:
    2. The installation types screen list 3 options:
    Typical, Minimal and Custom.
Somehow Minimal takes more disk space (642 MB) compared to
    Typical (585 MB).
Well that is what the installation screen says. I have not tried
    to install
    using the minimal install.
    3. The installation cant figure out how much free space is
    available on the /
partition. Is it that hard? Its gives warnings about how I may
    not have
    enough space.
    4. dbassist cant find the cdrom if you try to install the default
    database
from CDROM. It says cannot find CDROM even if you have all your
    stuff under
    /mnt/cdrom
    5. The docs talk about software mount points and data mount
    points /u01 /u02
/u03 and /u04 that I created, but I could not find anywhere to
    specify them
like I was able to, with the last release.
    6. "Oracle Protocol Support" section during the install shows no
    options at
all. What happened to good ole Net8?
And many others. This product is a joke.
    Atif.

My sentiments exactly. There are so many bugs in the
installation of this release that I have just about given up.
And I haven't even started testing the new features yet!
I've tried the install on RedHat 6.0 straight out of the box (no
patches or updates applied) and followed the OIG and release
notes to the letter. Clearly, no one at Oracle did the same,
because there are many problems during install. I finally got a
simple database running, but there are some real gotcha's along
    the way.
Here are just a few of the bugs I've encountered:
    1. Zero length library file $ORACLE_HOME/lib/libnjni8.so.
Netasst doesn't work without it. Someone said they posted the
source code to the comp.databases.oracle.server newsgroup, but I
    can't find it.
    2. Database Creation Assistant thinks dbmssql.sql is called
    dbmssml.sql.
    3. Building the Intelligent Agent with TCL 7.5 causes a cascade
of undefined references when running gmake -f ins_oemagent.mk
    agent
    4. Database Creation Assistant doesn't understand OFA. It wants
to put all of the database files /u01/app/oracle/oradata/<sid> !
    5. Database Creation Assistant will sometimes prevent editing
the data file names to put them in OFA compliant directories.
I am appreciative of the free developer licenses for so many
Oracle products, but this is the worst Oracle install I've had
    in 12 years.

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager Agent deployment (Installation and Configuration) Error

    Hello,
I am trying to create an agent on a linux server using Oracle Enterprise Manager 12.1.0.3. The user is created with root privilege on the server, by change /etc/sudoers entry username the same as the root entry. After that I tried to add host target by clicking Setup->Add Target->Add target Manually->Add Host Targets in the Oracle Enterprise Manager.
In the Add Target view: I clicked on add, then I entry host and platform information. After that I click next. Then I provided the Linux x86-64 : Installation Details for

In the Add Host Status view: stages Initialization and Remote Prerequisite Check successfully passed, but in the stage Agent Deployment, it failed in the Installation and Configuration phrase of the Agent Deployment stage.
The log content is shown below. There are numerous SEVERE Errors. But I don't have much experience in dealing with these type of problems. I thank you in advance for all the helps.

Thank you for your help AkankshaSheoranKaler. I have executed the following command based on your request. If there is any issue, please let me know. Thanks!
"Can you run this command to make sure that the agents bits were downloaded correctly : oms home /bin /emcli verify_updates
Share the output of the command. I am suspecting this is a know issue (Bug 17300008) but i will wait for your output.  Also if you can open an SR with oracle support to track this issue and its resolution. "

       Hello AkankshaSheoranKaler
We have done the following, but we aren't able to resolve this issue. Thank you for your help!
    lf
“This  happen if the software library is not accessible, readable or unmounted (if it is in shared file system).”
On Enterprise Manager server [nsn175-105], we did the following:
    1. we modified /etc/exports to include this line: /export *(rw,no_root_squash,sync)
we start nfs service by executing command “service nfs start”.
On Management Agent server (nsn175-89), we verified that we are able to mount /export directory of EM server.
On Management Agent server, we started firefox browser and were able to run successfully https://nsn175-105.us.oracle.com:4904/empbs/genwallet
After making this change, we ran agent deployment again. We encountered the same error as shown above.
“You can fix the software library or you can download the agent bits in offline mode.”
For fixing the software library, select Setup->Provision and Patching->Offline Patching, then select Offline Patching radio button, download: https://updates.oracle.com/download/em_catalog.zip. Next upload this zip file.
    “Try downloading the bits again”
We are not sure what agent bits are. Would you please explain this and provide procedure how we can download this?
(Here I have attempted to fix the software library, but I am new to Enterprise Manager and not sure how to interpret this).
