Object Causes Wrap-Uncheck as default?

Hello all,
I am a Pages lover who could use some advice customizing the application. 99% of the time I don't want my objects to cause wrap so I find myself continuously having to open the inspector and uncheck that option.
Is there a way to change the default status of this option?
Thanks

My brute force soluce.
Open the folder:
"<startupVolume>:Applications:iWork '08:Pages.app:Contents:Resources:Templates:Blank:Blank.template:"
Double click on index-iso.xml.gz to expand it as index-iso.xml
or
Double click on index-trad.xml.gz to expand it as index-trad.xml
For safe, move the Index-xxx.xml.gz file to the folder "<startupVolume>:Applications:iWork '08:Pages.app:Contents:Resources:Templates:Blank:"
Open the index-xxx.xml
search for the string "sf:floating-wrap-enabled="
When you reach the last one, replace the trailing "true" by "false".
So you will get:
<sf:graphic-style sfa:ID="SFDGraphicStyle-34" sf:name="graphic-image-style-default" sf:ident="graphic-image-style-default"><sf:property-map><sf:stroke><sf:stroke sfa:ID="SFRStroke-67" sf:miter-limit="4" sf:width="1" sf:cap="butt" sf:join="miter"><sf:color xsi:type="sfa:calibrated-white-color-type" sfa:w="0" sfa:a="1"/><sf:pattern sfa:ID="SFRStrokePattern-62" sf:phase="0" sf:type="empty"><sf:pattern/></sf:pattern></sf:stroke></sf:stroke><sf:shadow><s f:shadow-ref sfa:IDREF="SFRShadow-0"/></sf:shadow><sf:reflection><sf:null/></sf:reflection>< sf:layoutStyle><sf:null/></sf:layoutStyle><sf:externalTextWrap><sf:external-text -wrap sfa:ID="SFWPExternalTextWrap-16" sf:wrap-style="tight" sf:floating-wrap-enabled="false" sf:direction="both" sf:attachment-wrap-type="unaligned" sf:floating-wrap-type="directional" sf:margin="12" sf:alpha-threshold="0.5"/></sf:externalTextWrap><sf:opacity><sf:number sfa:number="1" sfa:type="f"/>
Save the xml file.
The next time you will use this template, inserted graphic objects will default to no-wrap.

  • How to change "Object Causes Wrap" and a "Picture Frame" as a default properties when importing images in Autor

When I place images in iBook Author, they are automatically assigned these properties: "Object Causes Wrap" and a "Picture Frame" stroke.
I don't want that and couldn't find where can I change it in the Preferences. Anyone has an idea?

I've sent a feature request for a new version of Author:
When I place images in iBook Author, they are automatically assigned these properties: "Object Causes Wrap" and a "Picture Frame" stroke.
It would be great if I could be able to change it in the Preferences to "No wrap" and "No Frame" so I don't have to manually adjust every single image of my book - there are lots of them.
It would be really nice if Author implements "Layer's" concept like almost all graphic programs like Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, etc.

  • Turn off Object Causes Wrap for in-line tables

Is there a way to uncheck object causes wrap for inline tables? The option is there but it's grayed out.
Or perhaps someone could suggest an alternative way to put text beside the table. Floating will not work because I want my tables to move with my text.
My document is in Word Processing mode.

I just tried this and it works for me. Put your cursor where you want your text and create another inline table. Make it one column by one row. Type your text in the single cell. Set the border color to white if you don’t want to see the “box.”

  • Ghost objects causing wraps from templates after CS3 to CS5 upgrade

    Hi
I've just upgraded to CS5 from CS3 and I have some weird things happening in my templates. As part of the basic design I have some grouped objects in the masterpages. These consist of a text box with a smaller image box placed over it (in effect a picture box story). The image has a wrap applied to it, the text box doesn't. Normally, when I bring the masterpage down, I can just releae the group and bring text into the text box and it will wrap round the image. What is happening now is that when the group is released, it seems to see a "ghost" of the grouped items and it wraps round the obejct as a whole (ie the whole group). There is nothing on page apart from the grouped items, yet the text keeps wrapping round an invisible object that appears to have the sam esize and position as the grouped items on the masterpage. What is going on, and how do I stop it?

Sorry. you're missing the point. I DO want the items. The problem is, when I "bring them to the live page" they are seeing an invisible version of the group underneath them, so the text in the text box wraps round the invisible object, if that makes sense. There is nothing on the live page for it to be wrappng round, but the problem centres on where the grouped items sit in the master page (moving the grouped items away from that spot makes them behave normally). Ungrouping the items on the masterpage solves the problem - but I would prefer to keep them grouped.
If you want to replicate, try this:
    1) On a masterpage, draw a text box and put some text in it.
    2) Draw a smaller image box, give it a wrap, and position it so it is over part of the text box (so that the copy in the text box acts as a caption for the image).
    3) Group the items
    4) Go to the live page and Apple Shift click to "release the group". The text (for me) now starts wrapping round the ghost of the grouped items (ie it tends to be pushed to overmatter).

  • Can Change Object Placement Wrap Default Settings?

I use a lot of text and image boxes in Pages. I would like the default setting in the Wrap pane in the Inspector to be "Floating" and the check box to be unchecked for "Object Causes Wrap." Most of the time I have to open up the Inspector to change these settings for each my text and image boxes and it would be much easier to change the default setting.

You can set default wrap for any object as well as many other settings. You need to create your own default template. Open the blank template & insert a table, click in it & choose the font, size, color, etc. you want in the fonts panel or format bar. You can do similar changes to inserted objects & text boxes. While you're at it resize the box if you want, set the amount of extra space in the wrap inspector, etc. Delete each text box, object & table after you've set them. Set up your document with the line spacing, margins, headers, etc. as you'd like. Redefine all of the paragraph & character styles to have your desired font. Now, save this document as a template & select that template as default in preferences. If you decide to make any changes to the template down the road, just Save As Template again with the same name & replace the previous version. All of your new documents will have these settings for inserted objects, images & tables. Unfortunately, the settings won't apply to any other templates or "foreign" documents you open with Pages.
I don't know about setting the default to floating. When I drag & drop an object onto a Pages document it always is floating.
About the only thing you can’t set a template to do is remember to show invisibles & the window position. It is possible to get a template to show invisibles when opened, if you want. Save this document as a document then, in the Finder, change the extension from .pages to .template & put it in your My Templates folder in (your account) > Library > Application Support > iWork > Pages > Templates > My Templates. Set up your document with the line spacing, margins, headers, etc. as you'd like. Redefine all of the paragraph & character styles to have your desired font.

  • How to set default object placement & wrap for drag-and-dropped files

I am working on a document into which I need to drag-and-drop a number of files from the Finder: JPGs, PDFs, and so on. Each time I drag a file into Pages, by default its placement is set as "Floating (doesn't move with text)" and "Object causes wrap" is active.
I would much prefer that the default settings be "inline" and "object does not cause wrap," so my drag-and-dropped images will appear within the text and move with it.
Is there a way to change this default setting?

Niel's suggestion is good. You might also try posting your question in the Tiger Server forums. I'm sure Tiger Server has several ways of dealing with this.

  • TS3579 I found this useful because I did not know about the effect of typing in data and that you could only drag to rearrange the data.  I had typed in data before and this had caused problems but restoring defaults did not cause correct dates to show up

It sounds like there are a couple things going on here.  First check if you have a successful install of SQL Server, then we'll figure out the connection issues.
Can you launch SQL Server Configuration Manager and check for SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) if default instance or SQL Server (other name) if you've configured your instance as a named instance.  Once you find this, make sure the service is started.
If not started, try to start it and see if it throws an error.  If you get an error, post the error message your hitting.  If the service starts, you can then launch SSMS and try to connect.  If you have a default instance, you can use the machine
name in the connection dialog.  Ex:  "COWBOYS" where Cowboys is the machine name.  However, if you named the SQL Server instance during install, you'll need to connect using the machine\instance format.  Ex:  COWBOYS\Romo (where Romo
is the instance name you set during install).
You can also look at the summary.txt file in the SQL Server setup error logs to see what happened on the most recent install.  Past install history is archived in the log folder if you need to dig those up to help troubleshoot, but the most
recent one may help get to the bottom of it if there is an issue with setup detecting a prior instance that needs to be repaired.

  • Transparent objects cause fuzziness in PDF's from Pages

Hi, having trouble with objects that have some transparency. When going to PDF's, or even to PS files and then PDF's, the objects cause anything near and under them to become fuzzy. Has anyone a fix or workaround to this, other than not using objects with transparency? Thanks in advance - Tim L.

Some additional input... it seems it's not the transparency, but drop shadows that are causing this. It may be the combination of drop shadows on graphics that also have transparency. In any case, turning off the drop shadows makes the PDFx output look OK and not have adjacent text fuzzy. The graphics look better with drop shadows - but the drop shadows cause other problems with transparent graphics and adjacent text. Solution - don't use drop shadows in this case.

  • A method layout without a target object causes a one-sided reclassificat.

    Dear experts,
I am from BI background. I have been asked to do a testing in BCS and received the following message when I tried to generate NPAT:
A method layout without a target object causes a one-sided reclassificat.
    Message no. UCF4008
    Diagnosis
You have not defined a target object in the method layout.
    System Response
This method will consequently perform a one-sided reclassification. It will only read records from the database with a posting level not equal to zero and will post them without a document type.
    Procedure
Select the target object in order to define the method layout for a normal reclassification.
As a result, NPAT has not been generated, so can you guys help me out to understand what is happening here?
    Thank you.

I think you are using this reclassification technique for reclassifying Net income and Retained earnings.
This message normal you get if
    1. If you have executed reclassification task in update mode once and posted NI and RE. or
    2. There is no NI or RE.
Please let me know if you have any further queries.

  • Why is "fixed resolution" in Motion not unchecked by default???

I learned that in Motion 4, "fixed resolution" in the Media tab is supposed to be unchecked by default so that if you bring in Illustrator pdf files, they show up nice and clean (not pixelated).
But I am working with a multi-layered map where each country is being imported into Motion as a separate pdf file. Every single time, I have to navigate to the Media tab and manually uncheck the "fixed resolution" of all the pdf layers. I thought in Motion it was unchecked by default.
Any way to change this setting? I want "fixed resolution" to remain unchecked (as opposed to checked) by default.
    Thank in advance,
    - Nick

Just a guess, but I believe that the Fixed Resolution box is checked by default to keep the program from buckling under large, complex vector graphics when they are imported.
As far as I know there is no way to change that default.

  • By any chance long living filestream object cause unmanaged memory leak?

    Hi,
I am running my application where in I have one file stream object which live for long duration, say its life time is equivalent to life time of application. So by any chance this kind of object causes unmanaged memory leak in the application. Because when
I see private bytes for my application, it is higher than the all bytes in heap counter. That mean there is a unmanaged memory leak. So does such filestream object cause such behaviour?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Lucas

What makes you think it's the file stream that leaks unmanaged memory? There could be other parts of your applications that do that.
FileStream doesn't usually allocate unmanaged memory. Its internal buffer is a GC heap allocated byte[] array. The only unmanaged memory allocation that I know of in FileStream is a OVERLAPPED structure used for async I/O. If you use BeginRead/Write make
sure you call EndRead/Write correctly, otherwise that structure may be leaked.
@Joel Engineer: "When a stream uses ASCII encoding under certain cases nulls are added to the data for block alignment."
FileStream doesn't have anything to do with text encoding and I've told you that before. Next time when I run into a post that makes such a claim I'll simply delete it. This display of ignorance has lasted more than enough.

  • Cloning a Vector String causes warning: unchecked

I have a Vector<String> that I want to clone and store in another Vector<String>. I can't figure out why I get a warning.
    Vector<String> DATA = new TestData1().getData();
    Vector<String> nuDATA;
    //@SuppressWarning( "unchecked" )
nuDATA = (Vector<String>) DATA.clone();The warning i get is "warning: [unchecked] unchecked cast"
    found: Object
    required: Vector<String>
So I understand the clone() function returns an Object. But why on earth can't I cast it into a Vector<String>?
Also, the SuppressWarning line of code causes its own error when uncommented...

True, and due to the fact that it always will be a Vector<String> and never anything else, there really is no need to "fix" this.
    BUT
that being said, it's not 'graceful' the way it is now, and that annoys me. Plus maybe in the future i'll need to know how to do this the right way.

  • Will invalid SYS objects cause Oracle 9.2.0.8 thread to crash?

    Hi Experts
Here is a brief account of what happened...
    1) In Toad, login as sys to modify a function in a user schema
    2) Created this function in sys schema by mistake and it was invalid. Error PLS-00201: identifier 'LOT.LINECODE' must be declared and error PL/SQL: Compilation unit analysis terminated were encounterd in for this function in sys schema. No further action was taken here <--- root cause??
    3) Proceed to modify the function in the correct user schema.
    4) Ard hour later at 10:59am, i received a <SID>core.log, no details in alert.log or trace file was given. Winows scheduled jobs before and after this timing were able to complete successully.
    5) Restarted db and server and operated as usual. (9i no more support from Oracle)
First, my question is, what are the chances of the invalid function in SYS schema causing me to receive a <SID>core.log or causing the db to experience weird performance issue?
Second, should i use sys credentials only for starting and stopping the database? And log in as the user schema for compilation?
    Thanks for your help.

SYS should only be used for DBA duties - not for developing and compiling user code.
No, creating a user object (even an invalid one) will not cause the Oracle instance to crash. The critical components in the SYS schema are the data dictionary - and a user object created in SYS would not "damage" the data dictionary, unless it replaces an existing data dictionary object.

  • Inline Objects Causing Grief

I am writing a diary in the Word Processing layout of Pages, which is 95% text, but I want to be able to add photographs and other objects to illustrate it. I am having great difficulty making objects stay inline. I position them exactly where I want them (floating) and then click inline and they jump all over the place, and often a long way down the page. I often want to put two photographs together, side by side, as well, and this seems almost impossible. I managed it once or twice some time ago but can't for the life of me remember how I did it, or repeat it! I have tried using a Page Layout document instead, but when I click on the photographs the inline/floating option is grayed and I cannot select it. I have read the Pages User's Guide but cannot find the answer to my question. Can anyone help, please? This doesn't seem as intuitive as most things Mac usually are. Thank you.

In this first example, I inserted the two pictures, defined them as inline with no wrap and I checked that there was not an extraneous space character between them.
Here, I grouped the two objects then defined them as inline and defined the wrap mode.
The same objects are grouped differently then I applied the same kind of wrap.
