Occasional trouble with hot-swapping displays

Hi there,
has anyone here ever experienced problems when hot-swapping the display of your Intel mac mini?
I sometimes disconnect my LCD-Display to use my PAL TV as output device. Most of the time it works fine, but sometimes, when I pull the Plug of my TV-DVI-Adapter, my Mac suddenly REBOOTS. Or the screen stays black when I reconnect a display.
Any suggestions?

Boece's comments are appropriate in this situation - the display is not really intended to be hot-swappable, and as there are voltages involved and the interface isn't buffered, it's not difficult to imagine potential issues swapping connectors, particularly if the display(s) concerned are powered at the time along with the mini.
Best advice is don't do it. If you absolutely must, try with the display devices powered off. If you otherwise continue to swap connectors in this way, it's probable that you will continue to experience the same results!
You might find a video switch to be a less problematic solution.

Am going to purchase 'HP ProLiant ML110 G7 Intel Xeon E3-1220' server partnumber '470065-591'. I want to know little more about its RAID controller. The above mensioned server having only two 500GB HDD. I want to configure RAID 1 on it and i want to add one more HDD 'HP 500GB 3G SATA 7.2K 3.5in MDL HDD' as hot swap for the RAID 1. here are my questions
1) it support RAID 1
i checked on few blogs. then i confirm I can configure RAID 10 with two HDD. so it will work same as RAID 1.
2) it will suport hot swap
actually first time am going to install RAID. Thats why am asking these questions.

Trouble with fuzzy external display?

I have a 13" Late 2012 Macbook Pro, and a Samsung E2420L Monitor, which I have used in the past with no problem. But now, when I hook it up, the pixels on the screen are very jittery. When I change the display settings, the only one that doesn't make the pixels jitter is 720p, but it isn't very good quality. After hooking it up to a windows laptop, it worked fine in 1080p, so I know it's my mac. Any suggestions?

Could be the computer may need to be inspected and a full diagnostic run to see
if there may be an issue relating to the hardware inside. If there is no external
adapter in use between the computer and the display, and the other Mac tested
with the display does not exhibit similar issues, and is of similar build vintage, an
issue may exist and it could be a symptom of hardware failure.
An Apple specialist or perhaps Apple Store genius bar could run some testing to
see what is behind this matter; with an appointment one or another could help
at least to learn of a probable cause and a path to a cure.

Trouble with second monitor display?

I bought an external monitor for my mbp..
I do NOT have it on mirror display. However, I have my external monitor as my main monitor, with the dock dragged over to this screen as well. It's connected via HDMI. This is the problem I'm running into:
When I maximize a screen on the external monitor, it maximizes as it should. When that happens, my mbp screen turns to that thatched-looking grey screen. If I use my gestures on my wireless trackpad to swipe back, the external monitor will go back to it's desktop in order for the mbp screen to have a desktop photo on it. Basically, I can't see two different things at once with having dual monitors..
If I drag something over to my mbp screen, I have to be at the desktop on my external monitor in order to do so, and when I do, the external monitor goes to that thatched-looking grey screen. So again, I really can't look at two things at once when maximizing aplications.
the only pain in the arse temporary thing I'm doign right now is just draging the margins to fit the dimensions of the screen, and not the 'double arrow' icon in the top right to maximize it.. and try to juggle btwn different windows I open that way.
Huge pain.. not as efficient and I planned on.. Please help me with this issue!

Hi Joe,
In System Preferences, open the Display settings. Go to arrangement from the top of the little window. You will see the 2 small blue rectangles for your screens. You can arrange them to resemble your screen arrangement to - for example - move the mouse arrow from screen to screen in a straight line.
And you can also pick up the little white bar on top of the smaller screen and drag it over to the bigger blue rectangle.
This should move your main screen controls (menu bar and dock) over to the external display.
Alternatively - connect your external screen. Put your MacBook Pro to sleep. Close the lid and wake it up again. With the lid closed it should recognise the external display as the main screen.

Yes its all correct. I have just discovered that a separate calendar was set up with incorrect settings from the originator. I have checked all my settings and I'm good to go. thanks for your response

I am having trouble with CSS. Displays right in DW but not in web browser

I am having difficultiy getting my webpage to look the way it does in Dreamweaver in a browers (All 5 of them). My problems are with:
- Title Heading Content
- Sidebar
I have two lines in my heading with the name of the organization. I made two rules. Header H1 and a sub header. For some reason while previewing them in a browser there is a gap between the two words. But in DW there is not. I do not want the gaps. How can I fix it?
In a browser the side bar does not come all the way down. There is a small gap between it and the footer. Like the other problem this does not appear in DW only in the browers.
Any help would be appreciated! I am still learning CSS.

Contact your internet service provider (ISP). Often this is your telephone or cable broadband provider too. If not, there are many free or very low cost remote server hosts around. Do a Google search.
I did do the validator and it told me I was fine. I did not do a CSS one though.
Good. So we know it's not an HTML error. Get the FF Web Developer Toolbar. It permits you to edit CSS in your browser to see how changes effect the layout plus a lot of other cool stuff.

Trouble with hot keys and preferences

Some of my hot keys decided to be a bit moody and stop working. For example: Ctrl+Space to zoom or Space for the Hand Tool. I know my spacebar still works properly and also tried restarting my computer.
After searching the forums and FAQ I also tried:
Reset Tool and
Reset All Tools
Which didn't cure the problem. I also tried simultaneously hold down Shift+Option+Command keys when I launched PS CS5 but the only window I have pop up is the Scratch Disk Preference window...
Any suggestions or ideas what may be the issue here? Thanks you in advanced!

Unfortunately htting the esc key does not solve it. Does the 3-button method only work for certain versions and/or platforms? As I mentioned, while holding them down while launching it only pops up the Scratch Disk Preferences.

Trouble with Synced Multiple Displays

My two displays are not mirroring, but the toggle between their desktops is synced. If an application is full screen on one monitor, the display shows a black screen on the other. I cannot create a new desktop space on one without a blank one showing up on the other. How do I revert the display settings back to independently moving?

I figured it out!
The check box is in System Preferences - Mission Control.
"Displays have separate Spaces" must be checked for desktops to toggle independently.

I'm having trouble with my screen display. Could you help?

My screen (iMac Intel) is not displaying correctly. My menu items are off the screen. I'm wondering if I hit some kind of key commands, but am not sure what has happened. If I scroll to the edge of the screen, I can find them, but everything else on the other side moves over. I've tried restarting and that isn't helping. Any suggestions please?

Check your display settings, but I suspect you've accidentally zoomed the screen. If you go to System Preferences, Accessibility and then Zoom you may find that you've accidentally switched on screen zoon.

ExpressCard (PCIe) hot-swapping issue only happened in MacBook Pro 6.1

ExpressCard (PCIe devices) with hot-swapping issue only happened in MacBook Pro 6.1. But there is no this issue at all in MacBook Pro 3.1 and MacBook Pro 5.2.
I had tried ExpressCard to SATA2 Adapter (Silicon Image 3132 ASIC), ExpressCard to 1394 Adapter (TI XIO 2200 ASIC), ExpressCard to USB3.0 Adapter (NEC D720200 ASIC) and ExpressCard to SDXC/UHS-I Adapter (JMicron JMB389 ASIC). I had got Kernel Panic (Sytem Crashed) for ExpressCard to SATA2 Adapter, Other three devices can not be detected when we process hot-plug / hot-removal these ExpressCard (PCIe devices).
We expect Apple can solve ExpressCard (PCIe) issue by updating EFI / OS Software. Awaiting for your kind reply~ Thanks in advance!

Definition of "hot swap"

I am looking at a SATA enclosure with Hot Swap bays. I believe that means I can pull out a drive without powering down the whole enclosure, but do I still have to unmount the drive from my desktop?

I read (at the Wiebetech site) that it still may be good practice to power off a hot-swap device beforehand when it's practicable to do so, to preclude the possiblility of arcing across the wrong pins at the connection point, which is suspected to be one of the many causes of FireWire port failure, for example, even though FireWire devices are indeed hot-swapable. It might not be essential, but instead, perhaps, it's just prudent.

Hot Swap SATA on Windows 7 Pro

I am wondering if anyone has had success with hot swapping SATA (or eSATA) drives on Windows 7?
I was hoping that it would be supported natively, however I am using the Hot Swap! software to get the Safe Device Removal feature to work. http://mt-naka.com/hotswap/index_enu.htm
I read something about making sure that AHCI is enabled in the BIOS, however when I changed the current setting of IDE to AHCI I could no longer boot into Windows.
Any advice much appreciated.

Yes, you need to have your controller running in AHCI mode for functionality like hot swap, amongst other things. It sounds like you installed Windows whilst in IDE mode; by default, only storage controller drivers that are used are installed. So when the install routine sees that you have IDE mode enabled, it forgoes installing the AHCI driver; this lowers system overhead and speeds booting.
Check here for how to change that: Error message when you start a Windows 7 or Windows Vista-based computer after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive: "STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSABLE_BOOT_DEVICE"
By the way, that Hot Swap utility is crap; it never seems to work right. Just use the Safely Remove Hardware icon in your system tray.

Update of photoshop CC - trouble with NVIDIA Quadro 1000M display driver. PS freezes

Since today I've got trouble with my PS CC.
I've updated PS CC yesterday 2014-12-12.
I was doing some drawings today and two times PS freezes during switching layers of or selecting a mask.
A message appeared that there was trouble with the display driver an PS switched off the GPU support because of that issue.
Ok, I thought let's update the display driver and so I've done today. I switched to actual NVIDIA display driver version 314.21
I'm working with an NVIDIA Quadro 1000M on a DELL mobile Workstation Precision M4600 with 8 GB RAM.
Now when I start up PS and press alt+k, my 2 displays showing a black screen for 1-2 seconds.
After closing the general setup window again black screen for 1-2 sec and the top menu bar is showing no entries.
When I move the mouse pointer over the bar, the menus appear again. But the bar is like transparent at the parts where no menues are.
When I unlock the window from the screen an put it back fitting to the screen everything looks like normal.
Till today I hadn't any problem with my notebook in that kind of way.
Maybe someone has or had similar problems.
Would be nice if someone can help me.

Oh, that sounds very bad. It's not that bad for me. It's not crashing that often at the moment, only black screens at start up or if setting dialog is opened. But I will see tomorrow how often it will crash, during today it crashed 2 times when doing some ridiculous simple actions like switchid to another layer and the other time when trying to edit an mask layer. I will contact the support chat on monday regarding this issue. Maybe there is a solution or an update soon... I keep may fingers crossed for you.

When I import all NEF or RAW files into CS6 from Bridge and Camera Raw from the Nikon D200 and D5000, they become grainy/ pixelated. However, RAW files from the D800 did not have problem. I set the Color Space in my Nikons to AdobeRGB, in PS Camera Raw 8.5 to AdobeRGB, in PS CS-6 ColorSpace to AdobeRGB, and Save As Jpeg with Max quality (12). When comparing between CS-6 produced file and the original, I can see a big drop in quality and the picture become grainy and pixelated. What can I do to make this right? Any help/ suggestion is appreciated.

Can you show us a screen-shot of the raw in Camera Raw that shows this noise, or if you only see it in the saved JPG, then show us a side-by-side of the raw in Camera Raw and the JPG? Show the same area of the photo and zoom to 100%.
It is normal for raw photos to have grain but you can mostly remove it with the Luminance Noise-Reduction sliders in the Detail tab of Camera Raw.
The amount of grain depends on the ISO sensitivity setting on the camera.

Trouble with color on Presario, No red tones on display. Not a monitor issue.

Am experiencing trouble with color on Presario, model no. CQ5500F. Purchased a couple of years ago, and trouble was present immediately. Am getting no red tones - red items appear black or sometimes blue. Was told by HP that it was a monitor issue, and let computer slide out of warranty. installed new monitor today and problem still exists. Is this merely a display adjustment of some kind? Or will I have to pay HP their $99 for a one time fix? Any suggestions appreciated.

It could be the display driver that is not properly working
1. Click on the start icon
2. Right click on computer and go to properties
3. Select Device Manager
4. Expand display adapters and right click on the video card driver and uninstall
The computer screen will go blank
On the keyboard press the windows key the right arrow key twice and then the letter R.
At this point your computer is going to reboot. After the reboot Windows will install generic drivers for your video card. Do you still see a lack of red tones?
