hi experts,
i want to take report on ods change log table
so, i started using generic extraction method with change log table but when i am
assigning to application component in generic extraction (SD or MM) it is showing
error that no application component for SD .
how to solve this ,is there any other approach to take report on change

  • ODS reporting questions

    Hi BW Gurus,
    1) Is it possible to report from a staging ODS ( BEx reporting flag switched off ) using an infoset or some other means ?
    2) The data valoume in this  ODS is around 200 Million records in Production . What would happen if I changed the setting for the BEx reporting and move the ODS to production ?
Anyone experienced this situation and give clues ?
    Thank you
    Regards

    1)  Yes, I believe you could do this, however if the ODS is considered non-reportable, then there are very few indexes on it (to speed data loading).  With 200 million records, your users would be waiting a long time for results.  I would only do this if there were one or two queries that needed to look at the data, and weren't run often.
    2)  By making the ODS reportable, indexes would be built behind the scenes to make querying the dataset bearable.  With 200 million records, I don't know how bearable it would be.  Our largest ODS's are 20 million records and I hate querying them for large sets of data.
Try to keep your data in cubes if at all possible, as things will run much quicker.  Also BI Accelerator works with cubes, but not ODS's (currently).

  • Error when drilldown to ODS report

    Hello,
    We face a strange problem.
We have a report on an ODS (BW 3.5). If fiscal yr/period parameter range of the report includes 003/2006 or 003/2007 (March of 2006 or 2007) we encounter an error when we drill down by fiscal yr/period. The error is as follows: SQL Error: 600
    System error: RSDRC / FORM DATA_GET_ODS ERROR IN RSDRO_READ_ODS_DATA 0FIGL_O02 99
Double click on error message gives the following: Diagnosis
A system error with the following parameters has occurred in the data manager:
    Parameter 1 = &v1&
    Parameter 2 = &v2&
    Parameter 3 = &v3&
    Parameter 4 = &v4&
The error doesn't appear when the report is run for other periods and drill down occurs.
can someone through some light on what might be the problem and what may resolve the issue?
    Thanks ...

  • ODS reporting without Bex  Reporting activated

    Hello
As part of a review I have been doing on our current BW data loading strategy I have uncovered a number of ODS objects that have the Bex reprorting indicator active. The consequence of this is that it has a negative impact on performance when loading data into BW, particularly if we have to re-initialise the data.
We currently do not actually report off the ODS object and from the research I have done the consensus seems to be that you should leave the bex reporting indicator turned off unless absolutely necessary and to use an infoset for reporting.
In the coming week we will be faced with having to reload 15 millions+ records back into these ODS objects after doing a redesign so thought it a good time to untick this option.
I should mention that we are using a BW 3.5 system.
Any comments would be appreciated and if the preference is to use an infoset, then can someone give a practical example why you would ever want to set an ODS to allow bex reporting other than the obvious response of not wanting to create an infoset Would i be correct in stating that I wouldn't be able to use indexes to aid performance if i use infosets. I'm reluctant to pass this data into an infocube given the amount of data as it contains asset transaction postings.
An additional side question which is more for my personal interest is whether it is true that it is not preferential to include ODS objects (or infosets) within a multiprovider given that strictly speaking the ODS object is not multi-dimensional. I recently read this in an article and had not considered this before so was wondering if it is correct.
Thank you in advance for your responses.
    Regards
    Mark

    Hi Christoper
Thank you for your response. You seem very passionate about not reporting on ODS objects
What I do find interesting is that there are a number of standard content ODS objects which do have the bex reporting indicator active.
I'm forming the view that if you do not have performance issue considerations loading data into ODS objects and you can control the amount of data selected via reporting using indexes and query restrictions etc then an ODS is still useful for reporting or alternatively the infoset option. That said, this does not apply to the ODS objects I was referring to in my main post and I will be deselecting the bex reporting indicator before re-initialising the data.
I have always been led to believe by people who know more about BW than myself that the infocube is designed for summarised / targeted multidimensional data and that storing line item information in an infocube seems to be contrary to this position.
Our current design approach standard in that we load data into a staging layer (Generally ODS objects, most of which do not allow bex reporting, and some of which contain line item information), then into a transformation layer (generally infocubes) and finally we report out of multi-providers in our reporting layer.
Our general reporting strategy has been that operational style reports which would include line item reporting should be done within ECC and all other strategic, summarised reporting etc is delivered in BW.

  • ODS reporting

    Hi All,
I have 4 ODS's ,and i want to create report on these 4 ods's.But when i try to create query on this i am not able to see the ODS's(in bex analyser).I have changed the settings of ODS's ie.   I have enabled the reporting option for the Ods's and load the data and i got reporting icon in the monitoring screen.Still the ODS is not visible in the bex analyser...So i can't create any query...Can anyone plz help me on this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Drisya S

    Hi,
I have already created infoset with these 4 ods's,but the query created on this infoset shows some mismatch in data when i checked in r/3.Upto the ODS the data is correct.I want to count the no of errors occurred for a particular user against a particular company code. For this i have used 1rowcount as the keyfigure. The value of 1rowcount for the infoset is not showing the correct value when compared to r/3.So i want to create report on individual ODS's.

  • ODS reports Vs Cube reports

    Hi,
Pl let me know the advantages or disadvantages of reporting on ODS Vs Cube. Which one will be better option and why.
    Pl explain.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vijaya

    hi vijaya,
    INFO CUBE
    summerised form of data
    star schema
    dimentional
    additive data functionality
performance is better as compared to ods
    DSO
    detailed form of data
    flat file formate structure
    two dimentional
performance is less as compared to cube
    overwrite data functionality
obviously INFO CUBE reporting is more advantageous coz, we can go for dimensional reporting . DSO is only for data staging and cleansing the data purposes. if you are using BI 7.0 better create MULTI PROVIDER even if you are using single info cube coz, thats a gud practice.
plz assign points if it helpful

  • Is this possible - ODS report

    Hi,
I have two exact reports created from same ODS but the result is different. the only difference is that the original report was created in 2007. while the other report was created this week.
how is it possible to have different result despite same data content and infoobjects in query designer.
    please help
    thanks

    hi
    check both the query design.
surely difference will be there in design.
like filter for year perion etc..,
    do the analysis like this.

  • Reporting on ods

    Hi,
    I have two questions:
1> If reporting is done on an ODS then which table of ODS is used to get data?
I guess data is retrived from "ACTIVE" table.
2> If ODS is used as an infosource then for updating takes place from which table?
I think it is "Change Log".
So can any one inform me wether i am right or not?
    Regards,
    Rahul.

    Hi Rahul
Please find the answers as below:-
1> If reporting is done on an ODS then which table of ODS is used to get data? - For ODS reporting purpose data from active table is used.
2> If ODS is used as an infosource then for updating takes place from which table?
For init/full update data is taken from active table of ODS and loaded to cube
For delta updates, data is taken from change log table of ODS and loaded to cube.
    Hope it helps.
    Regards
    Pradip

  • Which one is better ODS-INFOCUBE for reporting in BW

    Hello expert's
1.I want to know which one ODS or INFOCUBES are better (technically/functionally) for reporting  purpose in BW.if some one is having any comparisons on ODS/INFOCUBE then plz pass on to me.
2.Are Z tables reliable in case of data updation and fetching when we create ODS/INFOCUBE.
    3.HOW RELIABLE THE "Z"(*TABLES/REPORTS) are in SAP-BW/R/3-ABAP.

1.Cubes are optimized for reporting..due to star schema structure.Use cubes for reporting aggregated data to be accessed by large number of users.
ODS are for detailed level reporting.ODS structure is like flat DB table.
usually drilldown is setup from cube report to the ODS report.
2.Are u referring to custom ODS and cubes..then they have the Z tables internally..reliability depends on ur design. But always try to use BC content, else copy BC content and change/enhance it.else if no BC content found then create Z-content directly.
3.Again,depends on the design. But always using BC content is suggested.
    cheers,
    Vishvesh

  • ODS with many keys helpful for reporting ?

    Hello BW Experts,
When you have a lot of data in the ODS.
    1) If we have more keys in the ods does it help us in the reporting point of view ?
    2) does it help in the datamart loading. i.e loading from this ods to any other data target
    3) does it help in the loading data to this ods.
    Please share your views.
    Thanks in advance,
    BWer

Its better to have secondary indices on ODS, if you can run away from ODS Reporting.
I think having number of keys might not hurt loading to ODSm but you need to have proper design on selecting Keys Fields. This unique combination dectates how many records can be added from the transfered records.
No comments on Datamart loading in case of Base ODS with more keys.
    Hope this helps
    Anand.

  • ODS and Infocube showing different results

    Hi,
I loaded same data to Infocube and ODS but they are both showing different result in BEX.
    ODS
ODS report is showing summarised values e.g
vendor               order value                   invoice value        date
    00001                    20                               20                 01.01.2007
    Infocube
result is showing not summarised values
vendor               order value                   invoice value        date
    00001                    20                                 0                      0
                                  0                                20                  01.01.2007
I would like to make the infocube result same as the ODS because I am remodelling so that we start reporting from Infocube rather than ODS.
    thanks

    Hi,
    this is the scenario
currently we are reporting from ODS object which fetch data from 3 ODSes. now I am asked to remodel so that we can report from infocube not ODS.
steps I have taken so far.
    - created new infocube
    - created 3 update rules ( same Update rules that gives the reporting ODS data).
my target is to make sure that the current ODS  report is the same as the infocube report but so far the report is not consistent
I compared the data in the ODS and infocube and they are exactly the same but the report is showing differently

  • Delete overlapping requests from ODS

    Hi,
Since it iss not possible to delete overlapping requests from an ods by any automated process like in info cube.
Can we still delete overlapping request using abap code or the only way to do it is to delete  data (selective deletion) in a start routine.
    Any tips would be helpful

    Hi ,
Try the following logic to delete the ovelapping requests from a particular data source.
    *& Report  ZV_DELETE_REQS                                              *

  • BEx setting in an ODS

At the moment I am loading to an Inventory Snapshot ODS which does not have the BEx reporting flag set.
After the loads are complete am I able to change the setting and switch the BEx flag on and thereafter be able to report on the ODS or would I need the setting checked before the load? Thanks

    Hi Niten,
It's better do before the data load. Because you may not activate ODS again with BEx flag set after data load.

  • ODS Modelling

The client wants to implement SAP BW with Cognos on Top. They say they want ODS’s (because of high detail of data).and unfortunately Cognos does not allow ODS reporting, so we have to rely on Infosets. Infosets allows direct joins between info objects.
The challenges which have limited our progress are: HR is modeled around Employee and Date Ranges (Date from and Date to).
With this they would like to report in 3 scenarios:
    Point in Time
    Date Range
    Attribute specific
Date ranges cannot be linked by direct joins, and need to be linked by between joins(ie between dates across HR areas)
How can I form Between joins?
Would this be possible if we use Multiproviders?
would this be possible in 3.5 Version or 7.0?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
All most all standard reports are given on cubes only in HR area, Even though all most all data is stored in Employee or Person master data tables.
These reports on Cubes are possible ,because at the time of uploading data to cube, all master data fields values are taken into cube by looking into Master tables in the update rules. So Master data upload is must before we start data upload to cubes in HR area.
And you definately has to dependent on BEX Queries as Dataasources to Cognos because of authorization concept.

  • Where in ODS is the link from serialized SFC to its parent SFC?

I am creating ODS reports with BO. I need to find serialized SFCs parent SFC. I do not know where the link exists?
    Pete

    Hi,
    That is not fully true.
Let's say I have SFC001 and it is serialized to SFC001_1 and SFC001_2
From ODS I see all activities by operations & timestamps for SFC001.
From the serialized new SFCs I can see only the operations & activities after the serializing. In WIP I have exact copy of panel SFCs activity log on all new SFCs (System rule copy acticvity log records = TRUE). Can I get this data to ODS too?
We need to send the whole activity log to customer and we are serializing all the products. WIth current setup we have to use WIP for these reports. I would prefer ODS for all possible reports.
If that serialize link is not in ODS where it is in WIP or Archive then?
