Off-peak downloading

Here's an obvious thing that there ought to be with AppleTV. Because it's obvious, I'm sure it's there and I missed it. If it isn't, it should be.
Because America has terrible broadband (slow, expensive), we're hitting slow service at peak usage times — even though we're spending tons to get the fastest service our provider has.
That wouldn't be a problem if AppleTV had a "download during off-peak" option. The system should be smart enough to know which program's we're actively watching, and queue the next couple episodes as we watch them. The download of those episodes could happen in the middle of the night. But then when we want to watch, we wouldn't be sitting around waiting for the buffer to fill.
I realize I could be doing something similar to this through a computer located near my AppleTV, etc. But this should be something ATV does directly (or with an additional HD attached).
Does it, and did I miss it?

AppleTv 1 worked better in this regard as you could download multiple items to view later
The difference was the built-in hard drive which was scrapped for AppleTV 2 and 3, as Apple assume everyone has fast 24/7/365 broadband which most people don't

  • Heavy Downloading during off peak hours?

    Hi there,
I have been doing a lot of reading around the various limits 100GB and 300GB and how they have now been removed by BT, but that everything is now unlimited subject to FUP.
However, I can't seem to find the answer to my question.
I would appreciate anyone who is currently in the same position to give me some info.
If I am a heavy user/downloader, who only mainly use Infinity to download during off-peak hours (usually overnight) will I get throttled during those times (overnight - say for example midnight to 8am)?
This will be either P2P/Torrents or Usenet (or both), could be maybe 1TB a month or maybe more.
I am not concerned about normal daytime usage which will probably just be for browsing/emails, not overly heavy usage I don't think.
    Thanks.

Wow!!! 1TB a month , do you get much sleep
Usenet is not throttled but P2P is throttled during peak hours. As you are talking after midnight, the throttling should not effect you, but there have been posts saying that the throttling has gone on longer.

  • Set a time for downloads so can use off peak packages

ISP has download limits for peak and off peak times. I would like to be able to setup downloads for off peak period without having to waitup until 1.00am

Look for a download manager that is compatible with Firefox for a feature like that.

  • Basic broadband package off-peak?

Hello all, a relative of mine has the basic £10/month home broadband package and has asked me if i could find out if this package has an off-peak time that provides unlimited download bandwidth? If so, between which hours provide said off-peak times?
Thank you for your time and patience.

    Solved!

No, the basic package is limited 24/7. If you want unlimited your relative would need to upgrade the broadband to an unlimited package.

  • How do I turn off the downloads window?

How do I turn off the downloads window? I recently upgraded FF, hated the new one, so downgraded back. When I upgraded I got the new downloads ribbon at the bottom of the screen and no longer had the downloads window. However, for whatever reason I decided to turn the window on. But when I downgraded I realized that this interferes with programs that I had previously set up to download directly to a certain program. Bottom line... I do NOT want the downloads window.

I know you can go to Tools, then Options, and click the Downloads tab and configure how you want it that way. Do you have the Download Manager Tweak as an add on?

  • Exchange E-Mail not Respecting "Off-Peak" Settings on Phone Start-Up

I've got my work exchange e-mail set-up on my phone to have a quiet time before 8am, after 6pm and al;l day at the weekend when sync is set to "Manual".
This works fine 99% of the time -except if my phone has been switched off.  When the phone is switched back on, it ALWAYS seems to do a mail sync on this account, regardless of whether it is a "Peak" or "Off-peak" time.
This is using the Sony-installed "Email" app v 6.1 on a Z2 with 17.1.2.A.0.314 firmware.
Anyone else seeing this?  Any fixes?
    Thanks.

Confused as to which setting should be on "Push" ???
I want e-mail checked every hour, between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.
I want e-mail not checked at all (except manually) all day at the weekend, and before 8am and after 6pm during the week.
My current settings are in the attached screen shot.  What should they be to get the schedule listed above to work?
    Thanks!

  • Cant get into MfE when phones set to "off peak" ti...

On the weekend (off-peak time) I couldn’t synchronies (kept telling me to set up an Exchange profile), didnt receive any emails (sent a few to the company account which is set up on the phone to test it but no luck) and couldnt get into the MfE settings (menu -> mfe and from there I couldnt do anything, hit options and it showed the usual menu but when I clicked on Open nothing happened and even the left-right moving locked up, all I could do is to quit to the "desktop") The phone was working fine apart from this (and been working fine since this year april, even upgraded to the latest firmware in the same month) and had no problems with it till the weekend. Tried rebooting (switch off and on) : no luck. Our Exchange server was fine ok all weekend, managed to log into my account, no error logs that would indicate it was the servers fault. Other people (with the same phone, same firmware, same settings) had no problems accessing their emails on the weekend. This morning as soon as it hit the scheduled peak time it started working fine, emails started coming in. In peak time it syncs every 30 mins and in off-peak it syncs every 6 hours.  Any suggestions/solutions would be highly appreciated since I cant be without phone and emails the coming weekend.

My girlfriend was having a similar problem with her N95 phone. I'd spotted a couple of posts like this one, but no solution. Here's how I fixed it...
Used nokia pc suite to back everything up off the phone.
We tried resetting the phone to factory settings using both the option within the phone, and the reset code, but still couldn't access messages.
We then entered *#7370# to reformat the phone, and messages were than accessible.
As we thought might happen, when we restored the full backup in nokia pc suite, the messages couldn't be accessed.
We reformatted the phone a second time, and restored the backup using nokia pc suite again but this time we didn't restore the settings. Messaging was accessible again, the old messages, contacts etc were all there. All that needed setting up again were things like selected ring tones.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can I turn off automatic download of Itunes Extras

This has been asked before by someone else but they recieved no answers so I'll try again.
Can I turn off automatic download of Itunes Extras.  I never use them and have to delete them and they hold up downloads of what I want?
    Thanks

Thanks Michael. I had no idea that that menu was even there, and it seems odd that it's not accessible frome the regular menu bar (or is it??). But indeed, I do see it now and this may help. The reason I said this approach is still less than ideal is that it will require me to remember all of the accidental unflaggings between syncs to my computer, and then manually reflag everything.... and if I want to be sure to do it right I'll have to take notes etc, which is quite a burden just to get around something that used to work effortlessly and automatically until Apple "improved" it... But thanks!

  • How do I turn off automatic downloads in Yosemite 10.10?

Since upgrading to Yosemite 10.10, the App Store is automatically downloading updates.  This creates an issue as my internet access is through Hughes Net satellite.  I have a daily download allowance.  The updates often quickly suck up my entire allowance causing me additional charges for an additional allowance.  I need to shut off automatic downloads/updates and can't find where to do this.  Please help.

Go to system preferences>app store. Uncheck "automatically check for updates."

  • Identifying off-peak hour in apps environment

    Hi,

If so, how can I get the load details at a point of time?
Not sure if this is the right forum category to raise the question, if not please do point me to the right one.

  • Can I switch back to Free during off-peak hours and switch to Basic once traffic is up?

    Hello,
I have a website hosted on Azure. But there are times that it has no traffic during off-peak hours. However, since it has a lot of images in it, during peak hours I can consume the 165MB/Day limit of the free tier in just a few hundred requests. Can I switch
from Free to Basic during peak hours with unlimited data and back to Free during off peak to save costs? Are we allowed to switch between different pricing tiers as much as we want?
    Thanks

    hi sir,
Yes, you can switch your website mode by you wanted. However when you switch mode, your website will be temporary shift. I guess it may affect your website performance and runtime. And currently, you only can switch mode manually. If your subscription
is free trial, you may need convert it to Pay-As-You-Go.

  • 20Mb Connection, 14Mb Peak Download?!

    Hi all,
I have a curious problem since switching ISP to an ADSL2+ provider. My speed has been increased from a 2Mb connection to a 24Mb connection. My router (Linksys WAG54GX2) syncs with my ISP at just over 20Mb.
Sounds great, doesn't it? However, my mac only seems to 'see' 13-14Mb of my internet bandwidth. Online speed tests (unreliable, I know) consistently show my speed at being between 11 and 14Mb, and doing simultaneous large downloads from reliable servers results in a peak download of around 1.8MB/s (14.4Mb).
Having spoken to my ISP, they suggested I test the connection with a Windows PC. The representative explained that there is a setting on the PC to utilise more CPU to increase the connection speed, which he has had some success with.
I'm about to try reinstalling Apple's Broadband Tuner. The first time I tried it, my mac suffered kernel panics every time the internet connection became live (ie. in startup or waking from sleep).
Is there something anyone can suggest to get things moving? Any settings I may have overlooked? I have tried Xupport, which had little, if any effect.
    Tony

    Hi Anthony,
    Thanks for your reply.
The download test I was referring to is owned by my ISP. It is still on the internet, but I'm told it is much more reliable than most java-based speed tests as it's hosted on their servers and designed to handle their connection speeds. When I was speaking to my ISP, the representative was surprised when he heard the results for this test (it was his input that made me think there was a problem). He remarked that it should be much higher than that.
I've looked through Onyx, but cannot see anything pertaining to the internet connection speed. Am I going blind? I notice under the Safari tab, there is an option to load web pages faster, which I have enabled.

Is there any way to turn off the download function in safari offline reading list?

Don't think so.  The point of the offline reading list is to allow you to read it later without going online.  It has to download the content to make this possible.
