Office 2013 'Save As' - Cannot 'see' document

Is it just me or is there anyone else out there who has problem with the change to how Office programs now 'Save As'.
In previous versions (forever!) when you chose 'Save As' you were returned to the actual document and could then utilise information in that document view to name your document.  For me, as a salesman, it was useful as we use quote numbers and I may
be working on several quotes at a time and cannot necessarily remember the exact quote number of the item I was working on.  Now with the Save As feature in all Office 2013 products you don't get to see your document behind the save as window and if you
have the memory of a goldfish you have to cancel out of the process, go back to the document, remember the detail that you need and go through the process all over again.
Can anyone assist, better still can the developers please put this back as it was as it is truly frustrating and I am thinking I will have to go back to office 2010 as it is becoming a true PITA!
If no-one can specifically answer does anyone have a direct connection to developers that I could raise this as a change request??

Hi,
Let's say in Word 2013, if you click "Save As" from FILE tab, then click "Computer" -> "Browse", it automatically opens a dialog which refers to the current file location - This is my test result and it should be the
same as you mentioned in previous versions, right?
If it doesn't open the current file location when you click "Save As", what location does it open go to in your scenario? If it always opens the same location, it might be restricted by the registry key.
We can refer to this kb below:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2801776/en-us
Based on the kb, if you find the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Common\Open Find\RestrictedBrowse", you may delete the Name and Value under the key, check if this will release the lock of the "Save As"
Location.
Important
This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the
registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry,

  • In office 2013 xls file showing the document may be read only or encrypted

    Hi,
I am using office 2013 home and business edition.
I got an error while opening the file with .xls extension
from my computer and the same file if i access from different pc
    it is accessible.
Please help me it's very urgent........

    Hi,
Do you get the whole error message like this:
Excel cannot access filename.xls. The document maybe read-only or encrypted.
If yes, and the files were stored in local disk, this might be happened because you are accessing a file which has read only permission or permission not set at all. Please go to properties of that particular file and uncheck the read only
check box. if the box is not ticked, then tick and un-tick it and apply. This will replace the file permission.
If the files were stored in network share, please try to remove the two files from the network share (copy them to your desktop). Open each file and save it and then copy them back to the network share.
    Hope it's helpful.

  • Office 2013 Upgrade - Retain Recently Opened Documents/WorkBooks from Office 2010

    Hello,
In our Windows 7 environment, we are planning to upgrade our users from Office Professional Plus 2010 to Office Professional Plus 2013 via SCCM 2012 R2. One of the user requirements is that we are to retain their recently opened files/documents
so that the history will still be shown even after they have upgraded over to Office 2013.
From what I have researched, it may be possible to do this if we copy some of the user's registry keys from Office 2010 and export them to the Office 2013. However, I have not tried it and wanted to see what thoughts you guys may have on this.
Has anyone run into this situation? Any advice on this? Thanks.

    Hi Jimmy,
Did you get any error message when you try to open an Excel file/Word document?
If so, you can post the error message and  event log here. Also ,if you had antivirus software installed, try to disable them to test this issue.
In addition, what happens if you add the network server location as a trusted location?

  • SSRS 2013 Native Mode - Cannot See Report Builder Button after Installing on my Desktop Computer - SQL Server Express

I have installed SQL Server Express 2013 on my home PC, which runs Windows 7.  I used the advanced installation, which includes Reporting Services.  The install seemed to go okay but when I open SSRS, I cannot see the Report Builder button on the
screen.  I have spent a lot of time trying to figure this out, including installing and reinstalling the program.  I am not sure what I am doing wrong.  Also, I cannot connect to the report server through SQL Server Management Studio.
If anyone has any straightforward assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.  I have spent a lot of time looking for answers.  In the meanwhile I'll continue seeing if I can get this to work.

    Hello,
    See

  • IPhoto 9 does not save edits, cannot see the edited photo except in the edit panel

    Hi Friends,
    I am a macbook pro user, OSX 10.6.8, iPhoto 9 - 8.1.2
The problem - noise edits of my pictures are not saved, I do not see the edited version of the photo in the iPhoto album or event, my photo prints only monochrome on the HP 1280 inkjet printer and that too only the original version.
Crop edits are however saved as are enhancements.
Solutions tried thus far - creating a new library by holding the "option" button pressed on launching iPhoto and importing pictures to the new library - no good.
I have seen the Library Manager based solution on these forums, so where to get the library manager.
    thanks for your help
    Ashish

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
    2. Download it from the App Store to reinstall It's on your Purchases List there.
For older versions that have been installed from Disk you'll need these additional steps:
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.

  • Office 2013 - How to Add Dropbox as a Cloud Service

Office 2013 has a great new feature where cloud storage services can register as a place within the open/save menu, and within the user's account. While we wait for Dropbox to officially support this, I have a workaround for those people using Office 2013
who need to see the Dropbox icon beside SkyDrive.
The script that you can download and run is here:
    https://dl.dropbox.com/u/46565/dropbox_service_add.bat
It modifies the registry based on Microsoft's document, "Integrating additional cloud storage services in Office 2013" found at http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35474
I've only tested this on Windows 8, so if somebody on Windows 7 can let me know how it works that would be fantastic.
The thread where I'll be posting any updates or changes is:

Great thing to have, but executing batch files is not secure.
Try to install new for Microsoft Office that embeds Dropbox integration into it in the same way but has nice and simple installer.
There is one more killing feature currently. Our plugin allows to load and review change history of the document right from Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Office 2013 MRU Migiration

    Hi,
We are about to roll out Office 2013 to our 400 odd user, I'm trying to get the MRU to migrate across from offcie 2010, however it doesn't migrate from the default install or our customized transform file.
i have found it does migrate the reg keys for them, from the office 2010 to office 2013 child(see below)
    HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\File MRU
However Office 2013 does not read this location when logged in as a domain user it reads the File MRU from
    HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Word\User MRU\AD_*Hash*\File MRU
I have created a script that can migrate the settings after office 2013 has opened a word document but will be extremely tedious for our 400 users
Is there a way to re-point office 2013 to look a the first Reg key location for its file MRU?
or what is the sha512 hash generated from so we can run a script at the end of installation to copy the keys into the correct location.
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
Office 2013 introduced Sign in feature, whenever a new account is signed in through the Office 2013 interface, a new
LiveId_xxx or AD_xxx subkey is created.
This is kind of by design in Office 2013, I'm afraid we cannot "re-point office 2013 to look a the first Reg key location for its file MRU".
For you case, probably you can create a script which can be triggered whenever a new account is signed in, to detect the
AD_xxx subkey, then copy the keys into the correct location.
I'm not sure if this is possible as I'm personally not familiar with script. If you need help on this, you can post in the forum of
    Script Center.
    Thanks for your understanding.

  • Having issues with Myriad Pro Font with Office 2013 Products

Have tried to install Myriad Pro Fonts manually on a windows 8 & 8.1 machine with office 2013 64 bit but it seems that the office products like work, excel do not pick up the right font even though its comes up as Myriad Pro in the font list.
I have logged this Microsoft as well but still haven't had much luck. In Office 2010 it used to work fine as it a 32 bit product.
    Print Preview Word 2013
You can see that when printed it brings the (C) from Page 2 to Page 1. Whereas in Word 2010 it is fine, it will print exactly what is shown above.
Any assistance will be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, there isn't anything much Adobe can do about this. It has nothing to do with what is in the Myriad Pro font itself, but probably has to do with improperly handling of OpenType CFF fonts.
I myself have found a few bugs in Office 2013 in terms of OpenType CFF font handling, especially with regards to how Office 2013 saves PDF files (not when using the Acrobat “save as PDF” feature of Acrobat).
Since this relates to print, you should also be aware that Office products do tend to reformat based on metrics at printer device resolution as opposed to screen device resolution and that such reformating often occurs if you compose with one printer selected and then select a different printer to actually print to. This particular problem in Office goes all the way back to the first version of Word.

  • Installing MS Office 2013, whew!

I wanted to share an experience I had today regarding MS Office in case it helps someone else...
I got my new E440 on about April 2nd. I didn't unbox it until the 3rd. I can tell by the calendar in the configuration history shown in the Lenovo Solution Center. I didn't really get going until the 4th. Anyway, I activated the MS Office trial many days later. Then, my laptop seemed to have gotten screwed up somehow (not by the MS Office activation, but by something else). I hadn't really done much with it, so yesterday, I ended up restoring back to the restore point created on 4/3. When I tried to use MS Office again, it wouldn't re-activate - just nothing happened when I clicked on it. I looked in the configuration history and had "System Events" of APPCRASH regarding firstrun.exe. I searched for this file and it as located in one of the MS Office folders. So I figured something got messed up because I had already activated the trial, and then restored back to earlier in time before I had activated it. So today I uninstalled it and purchased MS Office Professional online. Then the fun really started...
When I installed "MS Office 2013 Professional", I kept seeing MS Office 365... I got an email from MS regarding Office 365. I looked online to see how I could find out what version I was running and, lo and behold, it said Office 365. But on the MS web site after I entered my key code, the confirmation said Office Professional (I had captured a screen print)...  So I fired off any angry email to the site where I purchased Professional thinking they had charged me for Professional but provided Office 365. I couldn't talk to them because they were closed for the day.
Then, I called Microsoft. And worked with them for almost THREE HOURS to resolve the issue. They confirmed the key code was for Professional. They were great. Somehow, even though I uninstalled the trial version, the Office 365 subscription was still attached to my MS account. It took him a long time to get rid of it. For a while, I had both Professional AND 365 attached to my account.
All is good now, but wow, it was a long haul.
Now I guess I'll start tranferring my files over to the new laptop.

    Hi Kkb,
    Welcome to Lenovo Community!
I am sorry to hear to your situation, and glad to know that the issue has been resolved.

  • Office 2013 removed grammar & writing style options for Portuguese (Brazil) language

The pt-br (Portuguese - Brazil) proofing tools for Office 2010 included many grammar options but apparently these have been removed in Office 2013. Pt-pt (Portuguese - Portugal) still retains these options for some reason. I asked about this issue on the
Microsoft Community forum and the forum moderator confirmed that the Brazilian Portuguese Office 2013 spell checker does indeed lack these features.
I know that the pt-br proofing tools was designed by Itautec Brazil. So I contacted the project leader and she answered me as follows:
" Someone from Itautec contacted Microsoft and they answered: “Microsoft has now replaced all of the above features with our own versions - we do not intend to ship the Itautec features with any new Microsoft product.”"
I would like use Office 2013, but I cannot work without a robust Brazilian Portuguese spell checker. Is using Office 2010 my only option?

    Hi,
You can go to this page and click Download button to download Microsoft Office Proofing Tools 2013 - Portuguese (Brazil):
    http://www.microsoft.com/pt-BR/download/details.aspx?id=35400
The current tool might be not powerful enough for you, you can always submit your feedback/requirement by clicking the smile face at the upper right corner of Office applications. Microsoft will work hard to make sure it is reviewed:

Please be assured that Microsoft product team will strive to capture Microsoft users' ideas and are working hard to create a more powerful and easy-to-use product.

  • Acrobat 11 & Office 2013

I have acrobat 11 and I just installed office 2013 but can't see the ribbon in my office products? I just reloaded Acrobat 11 - still nothing

The repair would hopefully add the PDF Maker to WORD if it is missing. One link to problems is given by http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/troubleshoot-acrobat-pdfmaker-problems-office.html. Is the OFFICE 2013 a 64-bit version? That was another problem that occurred for folks, but I thought was fixed with the first update. I was trying to check about the possibility of PDF Maker not being part of AA XI Std if that was the version you had. I did not find an issue related to Std.
Have you checked the OFFICE add-ins (as MS calls them)? In my WORD, it shows up in the File>Options menu as I recall the last time I checked (no WORD on this machine). You need to be sure that Acrobat is an enabled application. I have had a similar problem on a WIn7, 64-bit, system with OFFICE 2010, but have no had time to trouble shoot that one.

  • Office 2013 is much too bright & white - even if you select "dark grey" as the theme colour!!!

Can the programmers please give us more to choose form with regards to the themes in Office 2013? I cannot stand it any longer... The user interface is horrible as it is too white & bright especially if you've been working on Office for hours... Please
give us more theme options than white/grey/ dark grey to choose from. I like most of the other improvements, but I still prefer Office 2010 due to this bad colour theme of Office 2013... Did you overspend in having us choose little flowers/shapes/forms in
the top left corner and had no money left to develop the other aspects of the user interface???

    Hi Jaynet,
So what's the verdict, it's been several months since this post started... this UI is horribly bright, why?? Apple did the same with iOS7, it's ridiculous. I'm an MCPD, have been certified in Visual Basic/Studio and SQL Server since 2000 and I know EXACTLY
how programmers think and how easy or difficult a task is. Giving us a darker option isn't hard at all, but it's the latest UI fad, all of this bright blinding interface, and Microsoft won't give us a dark option (like Photoshop does) because it's part of
the MARKETING/BRANDING push, indoctrinating the "new look", at our expense. Frustrating.
I was given a copy of Office 2013 Pro by Amazon Vine for review, and I'm preparing to write the review, and I'm afraid I'm going to have to shred this version IN that review, because people have been calling out about it all year and Microsoft has ignored
them. I hope you reply with a more encouraging answer that something is being done. I will certainly add that in if there is good news on the horizon.
