• Outlook 2013 client, not in domain, can't connect to the Exchange 2013 server.

Hello everyone,
A colleague and me are in the process of rebuilding our Hosted Exchange servers. Everything is working perfectly except for the local Outlook 2013 clients. They are not in the domain but in the same network (through VLANs) as our Exchange server, and still
they can't connect to Exchange without the use of Outlook anywhere. If we use Outlook Anywhere, it connects perfectly. If I ping the Exchange servers (1 CAS, 2 MBX servers) I get response with the right IP addresses.
We've tried to create a new profile, this goes without problems. We enter the FQDN (or IP address) of CAS server and the required usersname, and the FQDN gets resolved to the correct MBX server where the mailbox resides on. We complete the whole wizard and
then start Outlook. We then get the error that Outlook can't logon to the Exchange server.
Is this an authentication setting that is wrong or do we need to use Outlook Anywhere if the PC is not in the same domain as the Exchange server?
Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Agree with Martina, all Outlook clients use RPC over HTTP to connect to Exchange 2013. if the server version is Exchange 2013 SP1, only Outlook 2013 SP1 use MAPI over HTTP to connect to server after we enable the protocol MAPI over HTTP.
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

• Outlook 2013 client not showing number of unread items

Hi there!
Exchange 2010 SP3 with latest CU.
Outlook 2013 with latest Windows update.
Lately (let's say about 1-3 months) we see that in Outlook 2013 client some folder are not showing the number of unread items.
This thing stopps working randomly and yes if we look under folder properties, option: SHOW NUMBER OF UNREAD ITEMS is enabled.
We believe it's some kind of bug.
Anyone else experiencing the same thing and how to solve it?
with best regards,
bostjanc

Hi,
Does this issue happen to multiple users?
When you view the folder that has unread emails, is there any unread email with the blue "unread" line before the unread email?
Please first try to start Outlook with /cleanviews switch to check if this issue is caused by corrupt view. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
outlook.exe /cleanviews and press Enter.
Besides, if this issue happens again, you can try to close Outlook and then open it in safe mode (hold CTRL key and double click Outlook icon to open it) to check the result.
Hope this helps.

• Office 365/Outlook 2013 Shared Mailbox Sent Items Problem

I've only been able to find an answer for this problem for Outlook 2010, and that doesn't work for 2013.
I'm trying to make the sent items for a shared mailbox save to the sent items of that mailbox, not my mailbox. I got the deleted items to finally work, I just need to get the sent items to work now.
I've read about this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Options\Conversations
But I don't have the conversations folder, should I make it?
I've also seen this:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Preferences\DelegateSentItemsStyle
But that doesn't seem to work with Office 2013.
Any ideas?
Thanks

We have the same problem with a client. We are using Office 365 with Outlook 2013 on a RDS Windows Server 2012 R2. I can't find the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Preferences
folder in the registry. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\ is as far as it gets.
Even when we sent from the Office 365 online mailbox and fill in the from address, the sent mail is stored in the sent items folder from the user instead of the shared mailbox.
I've searched everywhere for a solution, but I haven't found one yet.
Regards,
Steve

• Lync 2013 Client Not Display Numbers in Contact Card

Hi
I have a problem where Lync 2013 client connecting to Lync 2010 backend appears not download the contact list completely. Lync 2010 clients are all operating normally. On Lync 2010 client, you can view all contact details including Enterprise Voice
numbers and cell numbers for all users. However on Lync 2013 clients, Lync contact details for some users do not populate completely. In most cases, Enterprise numbers/Work Numbers/Mobile Numbers are missing. If the contact is pinned then the details
are retrieved.
In cases where Work/Voice/Cell numbers are not displayed, affected users is limited to making lync to lync calls only. The user can still dial the number and get through without any issues.
I have deleted and contacts cache on Lync 2013 but this has not helped.

Hi Bill
Thank you for your pos.
You can use the following command to check whether you have purchased the certificate of audiscovery.westmoreload-country.org in your organization:
Get-ExchangeCertificate –server CASServerName | fl
For example: you want to return all certificates stored on the Client Access server named ClientAccess01, you will type the follow command in EMS.
Get-ExchangeCertificate -Server ClientAccess01 | fl
If you didn’t purchased the certificate of audiscovery.westmoreload-country.org, you could contact your certificate supplier.
You could refer to the following link:

• Office 365 - outlook 2013

Hi,
When pulling cached exchange back to all time with a user with a large mailbox it freezes on updating sent items (what im trying to get into)
Have recreated the profile etc..
Tried to 'view more with exchange' which it still freezes on updating, loading the it using the OST only goes back to 02/11/2013 (where it is stuck)
Any suggestions would be great

Hi,
As you mentioned it's a large mailbox, may I know how large it is?
Go to FILE -> Info -> Cleanup Tools -> Mailbox Cleanup -> View Mailbox Size -> Server Data tab, check what's the Total size.
If you are using Outlook 2013, the data file size can be as large as 50 GB, if your mailbox is larger than this, I suggest you not select "All" in the Sync Filter. Instead, please only sync recent emails. Or switch to Online Mode which doesn't
require a local data file to sync.

• Outlook 2013 does not display category colors in list view

I use Outlook 2013 with a Microsoft Exchange email account. In my Tasks folder, I use the Categories field to color-code my tasks. In Outlook 2010 the color and category name showed up in list view, but in Outlook 2013 only the category name
is shown. Is it possible to show the color too?

hi Diane
I tried to reset the view and categories is still not showing. I use it so much in 2010 version on another computer and now I can't seem to live without it. I have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how to manage categories in 2013 but it seems much
harder to use for some strange reason.
I would imagine that something like categories is much loved and much used and thus should work as before.
Please help :)
thanks

• Office 365 Outlook 2013 and Business Contact Manager Performance issues

I have some slowness with Outlook 365 at times. Most of the times, Outlook will have to restart. I use Business Contact
Manager so I cannot turn off Exchange Cache. Are there some steps I can follow to troubleshoot? The problems started 7 days ago and seem to be getting worse.

Hi,
The Outlook slowness problem can be caused by many factors, one common cause is some 3rd-party add-ins. We can troubleshoot in Outlook Safe Mode first:
Press Win + R and type “outlook.exe /safe” in the blank box, then press Enter.
If there’s no problem in Safe Mode, disable the suspicious add-ins to verify which add-ins caused this issue.
We can also check the OST file size since large .ost files can also slow the performance of Outlook.
Make sure that offline OST file in Outlook isn't too large. A large OST file may indicate corruption or fragmentation of the file. This can affect performance.
In Outlook, right-click the mailbox in the navigation pane, and then click
Properties.
Click Folder Size, and then note the Total size value on the
Local Data tab.
Open the Outlook system folder by opening the following folder path, depending on the operating system:
Windows 7 or Windows Vista: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
Windows XP: %userprofile%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
Note the size of the OST file for the user’s Outlook profile. If the OST file is more than 3 to 4 gigabytes (GB) larger than the
Total size value, the file may be corrupted or fragmented. Close Outlook, rename the OST file, and then reopen Outlook to re-create the OST file.
Some other troubleshoot steps can be found in this Microsoft Knowledge Base:

• MAPI over HTTP not working correctly, Outlook 2013 clients prompting for credentials during profile creation or opening depending on security of virtual directory

ENVIRONMENT
-1 Exchange 2013 SP1 CU7 server with all roles that is also a hybrid server with Office 365 tenant, mailboxes are all on premise only LYNC online is being utilized right now.
-Exchange 2013 public folders
-Mix of Outlook 2013 SP1 and Outlook 2010 SP3 clients all fully update to day as of Feb 2015
Outlook anywhere is working perfectly across all clients both internally and externally using autodiscover. Both Outlook 2013 and 2010 clients can open the program and create a profile automatically via autodiscover and no additional logon prompts
are seen.
We set the internal and external mapi virtual directory URLs to a valid URL that also matches the Exchange 2013 SSL certificate. We set the security to ntlm, negotiate on the mapi virtual directory. We reset IIS and enabled mapi over http in
the org config. We run in to problems here.
Outlook 2010 clients appear to be working fine. We can create a new profile and open and close Outlook without any logon prompts and verify that MAPIHTTP and Negotiate are used to connect to Exchange.
Outlook 2013 clients are having problems. As soon as we try to create a profile it says your administrator has made a change that requires you to restart outlook and then a windows logon prompt appears. If we authenticate Outlook will open and connect.
This logon prompt should not occur. We can confirm that it is connecting via MAPI HTTP and Negotiate.
If we set the mapi virtual directory to NTLM only then a logon prompt also appears during every open of Outlook 2013. We can confirm that it is trying to connect with MAPIHTTP via NTLM in the outlook connection test screen.
I do not understand this behavior by Outlook 2013 which was supposed to be designed with MAPI HTTP in mind. I would think the same issues would occur with Outlook 2010 but they do not. I am not sure how to resolve this and I am looking for help.

I have the same problem. Exchange and Outlook are both up to date. After creating a new profile Outlook prompts for username/password. A lot of users also get this prompt while
working - the profiles have been "migrated" from Exchange server 2010.
Niko, as i can see in your screenshot you do not have Mapi over HTTP enabled. Why? You can change settings in the security tab – if you have Mapi over
HTTP enabled all options are grayed out (please correct me if I
am wrong):
This is a very annoying thing – does anybody else have the same problem?
Any suggestions on this?
Marc

• Outlook 2013 Client - missing random sent items, not happen in owa.

Hello,
We are working in our company with Exchange 2007 SP3 CU13.
We are experiencing some problems with one Outlook 2013 client installed on Windows 8.1.
He lose some random mails from "sent items" folder. But if you check the OWA, all mails are ok.
I have readed that there is some bug about this, but these comments are for two years ago. And I didn't find any great solution.
I don't think that the solution is to make a new rule to re-copy these sent mails to that folder.Re-create the user outlook profile don't seem to be another good fix. It's only a new start point.
I have activated client side troubleshooting.
I would appreciate your help.

Hi,
For Exchange Accounts in Outlook, the emails should sync between the client and the server. Since on the server the emails are there but some are lost on Outlook client, this makes me suspect there is a custom view applied on Outlook.
Start Outlook with the /cleanviews switch:
Press Win + R, type "outlook.exe /cleanviews" in the blank box, press Enter.
This will restore default views. All custom views that you created will be lost.
Check the result then.

• Outlook 2013 will not connect to specific networks outside the office

Outlook 2013. I can connect to any Wi-Fi network I have attempted...but Outlook 2013 will not connect to my home network. I have tried clearing the dns cache as well as re-creating the account. Outlook works fine at the office, fine at
hotels, fine at restaurants, but won't connect at my house using either a wired or Wi-Fi connection.
Any suggestions?

Hi
As per the information and details provided by you, to connect the Outlook 2013 from outside the office, please follow these steps: -
This is usually the result of authentication issues. In order to prevent strangers from using their
SMTP server to send spam, many ISPs require users to authenticate when they try to send email while accessing the server from outside the network. In many cases, users will also need to use a different
port number and may need to use SSL.
To check or change the outgoing server authentication, you need to open the
Account setting dialog. In Outlook 2013, this is on the
File tab.
Click on the email account, then click the
More Settings dialog and select the Outgoing server tab to check the authentication settings.
Enable
My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and select
Use the same settings as my incoming mail server. These settings will often work both at home and when travelling.
You will also want to check the port and
SSL settings on the Advanced tab. Commonly used port number are
587, 465, and 1025 but if these don’t work, you will need to check your mail providers support pages for the correct port number. You may also need to select
SSL or Auto for encrypted connections, again, this information should be on your mail providers support website.
Note: - Once you make these changes, you should be able to send email from home.
I hope this information will be helpful for you.

• Certificate error on Outlook 2013 clients, Outlook 2007 clients do not get certificate error, Exchange 2010, dot local domain name

Hi
I'm looking for a solution that I can't seem to find. I have an Exchange 2010 server running in a dot local domain (domainname.local), so my SSL certificate is installed using the servers external email DNS name. email.mycompany.com
I have followed the instructions to resolve this on the Exchange server, implemented the changes so autodiscovery sees the server as email.mycompany.com. This works great for my Outlook 2007 users. The downside is that none of my Outlook 2013
clients can access their email without the certificate error server name mismatch.
I know Outlook 2013 has tighter security but I need to get rid of these cert errors, any thoughts out there?

Hi,
Since both your Outlook 2007 users and Outlook 2013 users are using Exchange 2010 with the same server configuration, it should be working in both Outlook client version.
Please restart your IIS service by running IISReset /noforce from a Command Prompt window in Exchange to have a try. In Outlook, please re-create a Outlook profile to check whether the issue persists.
