Officejet J6480 - cartridge error, cartridge on right needs to be replaced

I had this error last week with an old non-hp cartridge;  replaced with hp and one week later getting the same message.  Have tried unplugging and restarting -- no luck!  Any suggestions?

Thanks -  I chatted online with HP and that is exactly what they had me try but still had no luck so they seem to think it is a defective cartridge and are sending a new one.  I don't think that it is the cartridge but maybe in the compartment where the cartridge goes.  Unfortunately it is really hard to get your finger in there to clean.  I put in a new hp cartridge yesterday and for the time being it is working.  If it happens again I guess I will figure a better way to clean in the unit.

I am a new iPad (wi fi version) owner but not the new iPad 2.  I have a home wireless network and have a HP Officejet J6480 wireless printer.  I print from my iMac and Powerbook directly using the wireless network and want to print directly from my iPad also.  Do I need a special app for this or can I do this with something already "built-in" to the operating system of the iPad.

  • IPOD Touch printing on Officejet J6480

Will firmware updates be available to print from an ipod touch to an HP Officejet J6480?  The J6480 is setup on a network with our HP desktop (Windows 7), laptops, and ipod touch (4th generation) through a Netgear N600 wireless router.  The ipod works on the network, it just does not recognize the printer.  I do not see the J6480 printer on any of the lists for Airprint, iprint, eprint...etc.
    Thanks

    Hi C-burg
The firmware update will not fix it as AirPrint is not compatible with the printer you are using.
Please download HP ePrint Home and Biz App on the iPod.
That should help you printing from your iPod to the officejet J6480.
The key is you need to make sure the iPod is connected to the same network as the printer is on.
Please let us know if this help you or if have any questions.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One - N911n cartridge errors

Please help! I have an Officejet Pro 8600 all in one that is just over a year old, just out of warrenty... We don't use it much and so just had to change the ink cartridges for the first time. Once they were changed out, the printer gave me the warning that there is a cartridge error and that the Cyan failed. Even though it was a brand new cartridge, I bought another one and changed it again. I still get the same error message with the 2nd new one. I have been through everything on the HP website for troubleshooting this problem and nothing works! Please, does anyone have anything else I can do????

Sorry to hear you are still having this problem. So the yellow was out and you replaced the yellow and then the cyan failed?
Printers when left not used for some time, may have printhead issue, but if it's not even recognizing the cartridge, then more likely a hardware or board issue that may need professional service.
One thing you can try is to update the firmweare (if not already), http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL41945/bi-101905-5/OJP8600_N911a_R1322C.exe

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless print cartridge error

Why can't I just print using only my black ink cartridge.  I don't need the color and it is too expensive to buy.  My printer has two empty color cartridges (which I don't care), but won't let me print only black until the empty color cartridges are replaced.  I ONLY NEED BLACK!!!   Is there any way to get around this problem?????

    Hi there Brzzzzzr,
Lets set the printer to black and white only first. Open your printer prferences and under printing shortcuts select Fast/Economical under printer shortcuts. To the right choose the Black Ink only from the print in grayscale drop down. If the notification still persists you may be able to remove the color cartridge and print. Not models support this though, let us know if it helps.
    Best of Luck!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 a910 giving incorrect ink cartridge errors !!!!!!!

    Hi,
My mom got an Officejet Pro 8500 a910 and it worked fine for a year approx.
Sbe got a 'replace cyan cartridge' error and bought the 3 pack (magenta, cyan, yellow) and replaced all 3 at once.
It printed 2 pages and now resumes with the 'replace cyan cartridge' error.  I have triple checked that they are all new and full but the HP device app will not print.  I have rebooted printer, computer, cleared the print queue.
    This is ridiculously frustrating.
Is there a way to just tell the printer to ignore the error warnings?  It does say the Black ink is full and will not even print a word document.  This is ridiculous.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 print cartridge error

one or more cartridges appear to be damaged K.  Message appeared after replacing the exhausted original black setup cartridge.  I replaced the replacement cartridge with a new cartridge to no avail.  I cleaned the contacts and even replaced all the original setup cartridges, again to no avail.  This is a wireless network printer and the PC uses a windows  7 home premium OS.  This appears to a printer problem not connected to the PC or OS.  This is the 2nd HP printer i have that has the same problem.  Any suggestions except replacing the printer?

@ REBjr.  - I understand that you are getting error message on the printer that is related to the print cartridges.  Are you using genuine HP non refilled ink in the printer? I would  start by doing a  hard reset to the product in an attempt to restore the printer to a known working condition and try to clear the error message prior to replacing any parts.  Here is a document that will provide the steps to the hard reset.  Also, is there residue on the black cartridge?  If so, I would look at this link here. It addresses getting an ink cartridge error message on the printer when trying to install a new black cartridge in the machine. I hope that this helps.

  • Error: Ink Needs to be Replaced - HP Officejet 4635

Hello! I've been having some issues with my HP Officejet 4635. I just enrolled with HP Instant Ink and recieved the two cartridges. The black cartridge is the only one working. The printer keeps saying that the color cartridge must be replaced. Before I enrolled with HP Instant Ink, I was using HP genuine cartridges and do use another older HP printer.I have tried *everything* in the help FAQs: wiping the electrical contacts as instructed, restarting the printer by unplugging the power cords, re-inserting the cartridge, etc. So please spare me those instructions again, ugh. I also checked for driver updates and such. I'm going to guess that the electrical contacts in the printer are damaged? The error says the cartridge needs to be replaced. Is there a way to hack or bypass this because the color catridge is brand new. Please help and thank you.

  • Setup cartridge error

I bought a new officejet pro 8600 plus and it was damaged when i mopened the box and started setting it up.
I promptly took the printer back to place of purchase but forgot to give them the setup cartridges for theat printer so they removed the cartridges from the 2nd printer.
I came back home and started again the setup process and used the cartridges from the damaged printer and now the printer will not setup, it has the 'use original setup cartridges' error
The place of purchase is now closed and i need my printer onl;ine ASAP
How do i override this error
    Thanks

This is UNACCEPTABLE!  I support a user base with over 100 HP Officejet 4620 printers.  I sent one user a ink cartridge pack from a dmaged printer and the printer REFUSES to use the valid cartridges?!?!  This is CRIMINAL.  It's a simple tank of ink and locks to a SPECIFIC printer's hardware?!?!?  This is going to the BBB tonight.
And this thread as absolutely NOT solved.  The orignal question from the OP has not been addressed.

  • HP Deskjet 2520hc color cartridge error message

HP Deskjet 2520hc color cartridge error messageAfter turning on the printer the ink indicator shows 3/4 color cartridge. Before the advent of the issue printed approximately 100 pages. After you print the first worksheet, an error is raised: the color cartridge is damaged. ... Print quality is good, including photos. To print the next page you need to turn off the printer and turn it back on. After printing error occurs again. All the recommended steps: cleaning the contacts of the printer, rebooting, no result is given. Ask for professional help.

Hey , The cartridges you used when you got it are SET-UP cartridges and it says that on the side of the cartridge, correct? If so, they are used to initialize the printer but not made for longevity or high print yield.  After the set-up cartridges you have to purchase normal cartridges that have significantly higher page yields and contain more ink. I'm sorry that you are not in a position to purchase more ink right now but unfortunately for you to continue printing you need all the ink cartridges and will have to invest in new cartridges while the others run out. To conserve ink try printing all your documents in black only. Your color ink cartridges will run out a lot slower. (be aware that even when printing in standard color and printing black text documents, you will still be drawing color ink.) Hope this clears this up for you a bit. Have a great day!

  • HP Deskjet 1510 Tri-color Ink Cartridge Error

I just bought a HP Deskjet 1510 back in August and I loaded the HP original ink cartridges that come with the purchase. For the first 5 print jobs it was working well, but somehow after a while my laptop and the printer itself just kept warning that there's low ink level in the cartridges (especially the tri-color one). I haven't even got to use the tri-color cartridge much as I've been printing in grayscale ever since I've used this printer.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I thought it might be a contact issue so I cleaned those parts too but it didn't change anything.
It's getting extremely frustrating as I'll have to do this for god knows how many times for every single page I print or copy. This happens to the black cartridge too but 90% of the time it's the tri-color cartridge.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

Hello @ut32w , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I hope you had a great holiday!
I understand from reading your post that you are running into cartridge errors.  I'd like to help!
I would first suggest removing the ink cartridges, and performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend running through the steps listed in the document below:
