Setup cartridge error

I bought a new officejet pro 8600 plus and it was damaged when i mopened the box and started setting it up.
I promptly took the printer back to place of purchase but forgot to give them the setup cartridges for theat printer so they removed the cartridges from the 2nd printer.
I came back home and started again the setup process and used the cartridges from the damaged printer and now the printer will not setup, it has the 'use original setup cartridges' error
The place of purchase is now closed and i need my printer onl;ine ASAP
How do i override this error
Thanks

This is UNACCEPTABLE!  I support a user base with over 100 HP Officejet 4620 printers.  I sent one user a ink cartridge pack from a dmaged printer and the printer REFUSES to use the valid cartridges?!?!  This is CRIMINAL.  It's a simple tank of ink and locks to a SPECIFIC printer's hardware?!?!?  This is going to the BBB tonight.
And this thread as absolutely NOT solved.  The orignal question from the OP has not been addressed.

this seems to be a very poor system, it looks as if I shall have to buy another printer which is a shame as this one has worked faultlessly for some time now, it is well out of warenty. Please help sombody,

    Hi @Mikepaget,
I understand that you are getting the message to "use the setup cartridges". You have already had several cartridges installed, so the setup cartridges wouldn't be required. I can help you.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.

  • HP Deskjet 3520 e-All-in-One - SETUP Cartridges cannot be used

I purchased a refurbished Deskjet 3520 today from a local electronics store that came with SETUP Cartridges in the box.  I turned on the printer, installed the cartridges, and received the following error message:
    ! Do not use SETUP
SETUP cartridges cannot be used after the device has been initialized.  Remove and install non-SETUP cartridges.
Is there a way for me to do a factory restore / reset so that I can get these cartridges to work?  The cartridges themselves have not been used before.  Just trying to save money and use the cartridges that came with the device.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello busackzl,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand your concerns with your Deskjet 3520. Please try these steps:
    1) Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector
    2) Take out the ink cartridges, close the cartridge door
    3) Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer (Do not press the power button)
    4) Wait 60 seconds or more
    5) Plug the power cord back into the printer, wait for the printer to turn on completely
    6) Now, install the ink cartridges
If you are still receiving the same message, then please contact HP technical support for further assistance. Click here to find out: HP Worldwide Contact.

@ REBjr.  - I understand that you are getting error message on the printer that is related to the print cartridges.  Are you using genuine HP non refilled ink in the printer? I would  start by doing a  hard reset to the product in an attempt to restore the printer to a known working condition and try to clear the error message prior to replacing any parts.  Here is a document that will provide the steps to the hard reset.  Also, is there residue on the black cartridge?  If so, I would look at this link here. It addresses getting an ink cartridge error message on the printer when trying to install a new black cartridge in the machine. I hope that this helps.

  • HP Deskjet 1510 Tri-color Ink Cartridge Error

I just bought a HP Deskjet 1510 back in August and I loaded the HP original ink cartridges that come with the purchase. For the first 5 print jobs it was working well, but somehow after a while my laptop and the printer itself just kept warning that there's low ink level in the cartridges (especially the tri-color one). I haven't even got to use the tri-color cartridge much as I've been printing in grayscale ever since I've used this printer.
I've tried taking the cartridge out and putting it back in again; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I thought it might be a contact issue so I cleaned those parts too but it didn't change anything.
It's getting extremely frustrating as I'll have to do this for god knows how many times for every single page I print or copy. This happens to the black cartridge too but 90% of the time it's the tri-color cartridge.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Premium e-All-in-One - N911n cartridge errors

Please help! I have an Officejet Pro 8600 all in one that is just over a year old, just out of warrenty... We don't use it much and so just had to change the ink cartridges for the first time. Once they were changed out, the printer gave me the warning that there is a cartridge error and that the Cyan failed. Even though it was a brand new cartridge, I bought another one and changed it again. I still get the same error message with the 2nd new one. I have been through everything on the HP website for troubleshooting this problem and nothing works! Please, does anyone have anything else I can do????

Sorry to hear you are still having this problem. So the yellow was out and you replaced the yellow and then the cyan failed?
Printers when left not used for some time, may have printhead issue, but if it's not even recognizing the cartridge, then more likely a hardware or board issue that may need professional service.

  • HP 7520 Printer - Need to bypass requirement for SETUP cartridges

I purchased a new HP 7520 and also a package of new ink cartridges for it.  The printer was a store demo that was on sale.  I got home with it and tried to set it up using my new cartridges and it continues to refuse to accept them stating that I need to use the SETUP cartridges which came with it.  It did not come with SETUP as it was an out of box printer purchased in the store sale.
Have I just been screwed?  Why the hades does it "require" setup cartridges?  What does this cartridge do that new ones don't do?  And how can I bypass this for setup?  I'm not junking a $140 printer over lack of setup cartridges.  I have been an HP customer for over 20 years...can't even tell you how many HP printers and PC's I've had over the years and this is the first time I've ever run into this ludicrous issue.
I'm not buying special SETUP cartridges.  I want a bypass for this problem.  I know there has to be one.  The printer is brand new and had not apparently ever even been setup inside the store...it was a non-operational demo.  The cartridge head is shiney and clean.  C'mon HP...get real here!  Why do you NEED setup cartridges?  I'm an old customer.  Work with me here!

  • How do I fix Cartridge Error and flashing light message on my 4215xi all-in-one? I use windows 8.1

This equipment was working just fine after I installed a re-filled black ink cartridge.   A few days later I began to get a flashing light with the message: Cartridge Error. See Product Documentation for details.   Sometimes my computer said the printer was offline when it wasn't.   I have also had occasional cartridge door open messages when the door was closed.    I have removed the two cartrdges, cleaned them with water by using a coffee filter as  a swab.  I have also uninstalled and, I think, reinstalled the software printer driver, but I am not entirely certain as to that.

    Hi there @donpablitosan!
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!
I would be happy to help in regards to the flashing lights and cartridge error on the printer.  You had also mentioned that the computer sometimes shows the printer offline or door open errors.  I should be able to help with that as well!
The first thing I suggest is to plug the printer into the wall outlet directly if it is currently in a power surge protector or extension cord.  This may sound silly but this will ensure the printer is getting full power and may eliminate any unnecessary troubleshooting.  If the printer is no longer getting full power from the power surge or extension cord it may give false errors or have poor connection and paper feed issues.
From what I can find it looks like you have done all the troubleshooting regarding the cartridge itself.  If you have tried the above suggestion and are still getting the same issue then you may need to try another cartridge to see if the issue is coming from the printers hardware or the cartridge.
Thanks again for posting on the HP Forums!
