Officejet Pro L7680 network scanning issue

I have an HP L7680 all in one, and when i click the scan button on hp solution center it gives me the following error message: "The scan cannot be performed because another program or computer is using the networked decive. Try again later."
I have 3 computers and the printer all plugged into my netgear wireless router. All pcs and printer are setup with static ip adresses. Only one of the pcs has hp solution center installed for scanning purposes, and the rest of them are just for printing. Everything else on the network is turned off, so im thinking the scanner is just hung up or somthing but i havnt been able to get past it. Any help is appreciated.

Here's my current pathway, which seems to be unacceptable:  \\MYMAC\Public\Scans.

If this is a windows computer, save the folder on the C: drive and use the CMD prompt and type  ipconfig  then take note of the IP address of the PC and make the scanner path very simple.  For example, if my computer's IP address was 192.168.0.13 and I saved my folder to the C drive titled Scans, the file path would look like this:
    \\192.168.0.13\Scans  or even just 192.168.0.13\Scans
Then update the scanner defaults to go to that folder and do a test scan, making note of the exact error message if one appears.
It sounds like you could be having an authentication error.  Let me know if you would like assistance as the date on this is kinda far back.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 Plus connection issue - HELP!

I have a strange issue:  after some hours, the communication link is dropped between the computer and printer.  When this happens, IE becomes unusable and will not connect to anything.  This is replicated on three XP home machines.   The fourth, a vista ultimate machine, does not seem to be affected (yet).  I get the "scan to computer is disabled" error.  It cannot be re-enabled.  At this point I cannot print either.  I can reach the embedded web server on the printer via firefox and can still surf using firefox.  I can ping the printer, but again once the connection is dropped, no printing or scanning to the computer.  The only thing I've found that resolves the issue (temporarily) is to reboot the computer, which just starts the cycle again.
last night I installed the software on an XP machine and the laptop to test when the connection dropped.  They lasted from 7pm Monday until I got home at 5pm Tues.  The machines were not used.  Once I started using them (firefox only), then they dropped the connection within a half hour of each other around 7pm.  The other XP machine lasted from 7pm Mon until 7am tues, when my wife started using it and then noticed it dropped sometime that tues between 7 and 9AM.  An 11am tues reboot ran OK until 10 pm tues when connection was lost again (and IE is now dead).   The Vista machine has been running since 7pm monday until now (930pm tues) and still seems to be holding.
printer hardwired, to router, static IP, 100-full link speed (also tried 10-half)
    router dlink di-655
two XP machines are hardwired, vista is hardwired, and last xp machine is a laptop on wireless.
I've swapped cables rebooted and reinstalled multiple times.  I must have a file a mile long on the support phone line.  They were unable to fix it.  I asked this to be escalated, but who knows when I'll get a response.
I've toggled firewalls - XP built in
    I've uninstalled anti virus software
I've even put up with crazy suggestions from tech support like changing the router channel (uhh, it is wired!)
one xp machine had an AIO 4215 hooked via USB and the others printed to it via network, but the printer has been deleted from the networked machines.
I can ping 127.0.0.1 which is supposed to indicate the tcp service is OK.
I have not reset winsock .. I can see one machine being bad, but three????
malware / virus scan shows no issues.  Again one maybe, but three??
The only thing I can think of is that there is something in the XP networking stack that conflicts with the new 8600 software as hours pass.  Perhaps there is some polling operation that goes on then dies after some time, then it kills IE as it dies.
When the printer works it is great, but rebooting is not a permanent solution to this.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!  I am stumped and so is tech support.  They are sending it to engineering, but who knows when they will respond.
    thanks in advance.

well it looks like I have a working solution  ... I downloaded a freeware file called process.exe .  I made a cmd file via notepad with the following contents:
rem this is to keep the HP network printer communicating with the desktops
    rem
    process -k "hpnetworkcommunicator.exe"
    rem
    process -k "scantopcactivationapp.exe"
    rem
    "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\Bin\HPNetworkcommunicator.exe"
    rem
Start "" "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Officejet Pro 8600\Bin\ScanToPCActivationApp.exe" -deviceID CNXXXX:NW -scfn "HP Officejet Pro 8600 (Network)"
the XXXX is your printer serial number with an extra character or two.  Pull that number from the port tab after you pull up "properties" for the 8600 printer.
This cmd file basically restarts the printer link.  It opens a command window that launches the program to re-establish the link.. then it closes the command window.   The launched program shows that the communication link is dead (just for a few seconds), but then it makes the connection... THEN you hit the close button and coninue your work until it dies again.
I may have it autorun every X hours if I can narrow down a good time.  Until then I have a shortcut on the desktop to "FIX HP LINK"   ...   I only had to do this for my XP machines, as the vista one seemed OK.
What ticks me off is that I shouldn't have to do all of this diagnosis. It would be nice if there is a fix in the pipeline so the link stays stable al the time.  I've spent hours trying to figure this crap out.
Anyhow, I hope the time I spent helps someone.  PS, thanks to the OJ6500 thread that had the info for the scantopcactivationapp.exe program.
PS  ...  I'm still waiting for an engineer to contact me, if any HP employees are reading this.
PSS  I haven't tried this without killing and restarting the hpnetworkcommunicator stuff, but it works for now.

  • Since update HP Officejet Pro L7680 printer work with Windows 7 I have an HP busy icon

HP Officejet Pro L7680. Serial #[removed for privacy] . Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium.
The install seems to have worked well, but there is now an HP busy icon in mid-screen for the past 24 hours. Can I get rid of it? I've tried evrything but a re-boot and don't want to do that if it will interupt a process.

I have the same issue with my OJ 6500 (network connected).  And I've been just been sent on a wild goose chase to install the support assistant - which didn't actually resolve my issue.  When I go directly to the drivers, it recognizes my OS as Windows 10, but doesn't give me a matching driver package to download... How/when will this be resolved? Does anyone have a workaround? If I knew that my printer/scanner doesn't work anymore I certainly wouldn't have upgraded to Windows 10.  Win 8.1 wasn't perfect, but at least everything worked... Thanks for any suggestions!

  • HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 all-in-one: Does it have internal stored memory?

Same question as the last post only for a differnet printer model (sorry for what may seem like a duplicate question - I'm just trying to be sure I don't cause myself a headache later).
I have an HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 All-In-One (FAX/Scan/Print/Photo) printer that I'd like to get rid of it.  Before I dispose of it, and for security purposes, I'd like to know if there's an internal hard drive that could potentially be storing anything I may have copied, scanned or faxed.

Hello sixmil5, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! I see you have concerns about the printers internal memory.  The memory is automatically reset when the printer power is unplugged, so you should have no issue with personal information being saved.  Thank you for posting on the HP Forums and please let me know if you have any other questions.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 All-In-One

I am considering deploying a wireless print server for my home - specifically, a Netgear WGPS606.  I checked with Netgear and the HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 is not listed on their printer compatibility list while dozens of other HP OficeJet models are found on their list.  Can anyone confirm if the L7680 can be connected to a wireless print server and if so, can you recommend a brand?  Thanks.
    Nick Colletti

Well, the wireless print servers (at least the USB versions) support printing only, not scanning.  The OJ Pro L7680 has an Ethernet connection, why not just plug it into the back of your router so that all computers on your network can both print and scan?

    Hey @HenryRC,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to assist you today with resolving the 'scan to email' issue that you're experiencing when attempting to Scan to email via HP Scan from your HP Officejet 6835 All-in-One Printer to your Windows 8.1 computer using the Mozilla Thunderbird email program. Thank you for including in your post that you have already ensured that Mozilla Thunderbird is your default Mail application. At this time I'm going to have you run some additional steps.
    Step 1: Check Email Application:
Ensure that your Mozilla Thunderbird email application is the full version of the software installed on your computer and not a Windows 8.1 App. It has to be installed as a local email client. Web-based email clients (email apps, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo Mail, etc . . .) will not work.
If Mozilla Thunderbird is fully installed on your computer, please proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Update Firmware:
This issue may be caused by a programming issue with your printer. To ensure that your printer is running the latest programming Firmware version please click here. Once the website opens select the download button on the top left. Once the download is complete please follow through with any onscreen instructions to upgrade the Firmware.
Once the Firmware has been updated please test scanning again. Should the issue persist please proceed to the next step.
    Step 3: Uninstall Drivers:
The HP Officejet Pro 6830 and HP Officejet Pro 6835 are the same products. It's just that the 6830 is the series and you have the 6835 within that series. Don't be alarmed if your product comes up as a 6830.
Open your Start screen by selecting the Windows button on the bottom left hand corner of your computer screen or by selecting the Windows key on the bottom left of your keyboard to the right of the Ctrl button
Once the Start screen opens type Programs and Features. Click on Programs and Features to launch it
In the Programs and Features window a list of programs installed on your computer will populate
Scroll down the list and look for the HP Officejet
Click on the HP Officejet and select Uninstall
Follow any onscreen steps to complete the uninstall. Once your printer has been successfully uninstalled please continue to the next step.
    Step 4: Install Printer:
Please click here to download the HP Full Feature Drivers and Software for your printer
Once the website opens select the Download button on the top left
Allow the Download to Run if prompted
Once the download is complete please follow the onscreen steps to install your printer
Once the installation is complete please try HP Scan 'Scan to Email' again to verify if everything is working.
Please let me know if the steps I've provided resolve your scanning issue. Good luck!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8610 (Network)' is offline every morning

I am running Windows 8. I use IE 11 and Chrome on occasion. Every morning I have trouble "waking up" my printer. I get "HP Officejet Pro 8610 (Network)' is offline". Sometimes turning the printer on and off resets it but today nothing seems to work. I even updated drivers. The rest of my network (excluding printer usage) is working fine. I have not been on a public network so that is not an issue nor has anyone else in our household.  I need to correct this every morning problem. Really, any time the printer goes to sleep I have this issue. I'm unsure if I can stop it from going to sleep or not since I can't even see it from any of our computers. Someone please help. I've been dealing with this about a month. I had previously purchased an Epson printer similar and it now sits in a box in my office because of similiar annoying issues. I previously had HP all-in-ones for about 15 years with no problems. This one is starting to make me wonder about the declining quality of HP printers. Please help as soon as possible. My son has a paper due Tuesday and can't print it. Thanks

Hello , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand your Officejet 8610 is offline every morning and it seems like this printer has trouble waking up. I will do my best to assist you! Please follow this entire HP document on What is Sleep Mode? You can try updating the firmware, which should help, since your printer is losing wireless connection when it goes to sleep: 1) Press the right arrow on your printer2) Press Setup (Wrench)3) Press Web Services4) Press Printer update and check for update now Make sure this printer is plugged into a direct wall, not a surge protector. I just want to see if this makes a difference. Another option you have is setting up schedule on and off. This will help with the sleep mode, as you will determine what time you would like this printer to turn and off. Note-If you decided to go down this route, if you receive faxes all the time, schedule on/off might not be a good idea. If you set a time frame when this printer is supposed to turn off, then you will not receive a fax. Also, if ePrint is enabled, this feature will not work. 1) Press the setup menu (Wrench)2) Press power management3) Press Schedule On Yes and set the time frame4) Press Schedule Off Yes and set the time frame I just want to make sure that your printer isn't going offline because of your router, not by the sleep mode. Just in case, I will provide an HP document on Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection. This will allow you to set a static IP address. Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

    Hello untech,
I see that it has been awhile since you have posted with us on the HP Forums.  Please let me take a moment to say "Welcome Back".
I see that you are having an issue with the printer shutting it self off and not powering back on.
By chance do you have the printer power cable connected to a power bar/strip?  If so, please try connecting the printers power cable directly to a wall outlet.  Here is a document that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
The printer in the document is a LaserJet printer but this document is meant for HP products in general and only uses the LaserJet as an example.
I am also going to include a document for when The HP Printer Won't Turn On or Respond When the Power Button is Pressed.
If by chance the issue is not resolved after doing the steps outlined,  I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 - New ink cartridges saying "Empty"

I have a HP OfficeJet Pro L7680 that has two ink cartridges that suggest they are empty, although they are brand new from HP. These are replacement carts, not the original.
I am not sure how to diagnose the problem since the cartridges are leaking color when removed. Only two the four are reporting problems. The black and cyan ones are the culprits and the black one reports appropriately most of the time. The cyan one is consistantly reporting empty.
Any suggestions on ways to clean/fix the issue? Also, are there any diagnositic pages in the menu where I can see the error code that the error is reporting?

I did some searching through the service menus. There are two event codes and two error codes. Both error codes were all zeros. The event codes were 69556 and 69548. I sadly don't have a way to look those up so I think that's a dead end.
The summary of the problem is that the cyan cartridge keeps complaining to be out of ink even though it is brand new from the store.
I will attempt another cartridge soon (ouch these are expensive).
    Any other thoughts?

  • HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus - "Scan to Computer" issue on Mac OSX 10.8 or 10.9

    Hi...
I have started experiencing the notorious "scan to computer not working" issue on my 1-month OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus, after having used the feature a number of times flawlessly.
There are a lot of potential solutions mentioned in dozens of relevant posts for both Mac and Windows, e.g.:
"Failed to open a session on the device"...
Scan to computer does not work...
Problem scanning to computer with an 8600 wireless
Unable to enable print to computer...
Enable Scan to Computer - Communication Error
Officejet Pro 8600 Utility does not show my Mac computer in scan settings
A 'Connection Error' or 'No Computer Detected' Error Message Displays during Scanning
HP Wireless All-in-One Printers - Communication Error between the Scanner and Your Computer...
    Etc.
However, in my case, no solution works, after several frustrating hours of trying to fix the issue, in Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), or after upgrading to Maverics (10.9).
The behavior of the device points to a software issue, since:
The printer is visible on the network
The print function has been working fine
    The HP Scan function works
The generic Scan function from System Preferences works (although in earlier times it did not, or it stopped working soon after invoking it)
The "Scan to Computer" option does not appear in the HP Utility screen (although occasionally, after random sequences of unistalling and installing the software, it reappears)
The HP Installer crashes before completing the installation (this is a latest symptom, apparently happening before unvoking the HP Setup Assistant, which still works fine)
As already mentioned, I have tried all possible solutions, including software and firmware updates, Apple drivers, HP drivers (full featured software), clean (un)installations, followed by computer and printer restarts. Nothing seems to work.
The "Scan to Computer" feature of the 8600 always works on my Windows 7 laptop, after initial configuration.
The next step will be returning the device for a refund, but before resorting to that, I am giving it a last chance, in (the unlikely) case there is something new I have not tried yet.
    Thanks,
