Offline program for google apps

Hello guys,
I'm using the google apps gmail, calendar and docs very intensively and would like to have an offline copy on my system. Is there a program that synchronises those data, primary my calendar?

For e-mail, there is plenty of choice. I use claws-mail myself.
Notable ones or KMail, Evolution, Mozilla Thunderbird, mutt,...
For calender, there is Korganizer (with the akonadi gcal resource plugin), Evolution, Mozilla Thunderbird with appropriate plugins...
If you just want the have a local copy for backup purposes, you can have an automated that script downloads the ical export file from the google web interface.
Something like this should work. Replace the url and the username/password.
#!/usr/bin/env python2
import mechanize
import zipfile
import os
url = 'https://www.google.com/calendar/exporticalzip'
username = '[email protected]'
password = 'xxxxxxxxxx'
outputfile = '/home/johndoe/google.ics'
br=mechanize.Browser()
br.open(url)
br.select_form(nr=0)
br['Email'] = username
br['Passwd'] = password
br.submit()
file = br.retrieve(url)
z = zipfile.ZipFile(file[0], 'r')
calname = z.namelist()[0]
of = open(outputfile, 'w')
of.write(z.read(calname))
of.close()
z.close()
os.unlink(file[0])

    I want to set the mailto app for google apps gmail.
    I tried editing the gecko...mailto.2.uritemplate as per instructions found on web (https://mail.google.com/a/MYDOMAIN/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s.
    Set 3 related config values to "true" as per instructions (network.protocol-handler.expose.mailto ; network.protocol-handler.warn-external.mailto ; AND, third, gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost.
    Does not work, no Google Apps in the mailto app spot.
    Tried javascript method in address bar without success:
    javascript:window.navigator.registerProtocolHandler("mailto","https://mail.google.com/a/MYDOMAIN/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s","Google Apps GMail")
    Any light anyone can shed will be appreciated. Cheers, jlf

  • Calendar sync broken for Google Apps accounts

    The Calendar no longer syncs with my Google Apps account; not in either direction.  It pops up the sync notification and reports success, but nothing changes.  I tried removing and adding the account.  This actually broke in 1.2.1, but by the time I noticed, I assumed a fix was around the corner.  1.3.1 didn't help.  I even created a brand new test account using the newly enhanced support for Google Apps.  Mail and contacts work fine, but the calendar won't budge.  Palm, I can give you the test account to play with if you'd like.
    My standard Gmail account calendar syncs just fine.  Saw the troubleshooting for standard account calendars and tried playing with the invitation options in my Apps account to no avail.
    Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

    #1 is good already.  I tried changing the other differences: Default View was month, Location had my zip code, Automatically Add Invitations was set to Yes.
    #2 using network settings correctly had me in Central, but it said Regina, Canada.  Changed it to Chicago and rebooted, but I'm still not syncing either way on my account nor the test account.
    Here's the really odd thing.  My Pre has all four of your entires on the test account from the 3rd and 4th.  I just tried creating entries for the test account from both my Pre and desktop, and I'm not seeing any syncing.  I've forced it about five times over the past 20 minutes.
    Sounds like we're down to it either being homebrew's fault or something stuck in my launch day profile that would survive a wipe.  I wiped my phone under 1.3.1 to undo a lot of homebrew cruft, but I still can't say I ever tested this in a virgin state.  Enh.  Go ahead and close the ticket.  My workaround is fine with me.  Feel free to keep using the test account for other stuff if you want.

  • BIS not enabling Google Mail feature set for Google Apps account

    I used to be a very happy BlackBerry user when we were still using Exchange and BES. Since then we have moved to Google Mail and my GSM provider is no longer giving me BES (no their GSM provider will either - BES is for coporations only now).
    Normally, on my Bold 9900 the Google Mail specific feature set (in particular OTA sync of Calendar and Contacts) is supposed to work through BIS. I can confirm this works just fine when I try to connect to my plain-vanilla GMail account over BIS.
    But my company calendar and address book is on the Google Apps domain, not my personal GMail account.
    However, my company mail, which is a Google Apps domain, can not be set up as Google Mail, even if I force it to talk to imap.gmail.com. Mail is setup and is delivered (as it would be for plain IMAP/POP access). But Contacts and Calenar are not available for sync.
    I tried to go through my GSM provider to have our company's domain name added to RIM/BIS Google Apps Domain lis to force BIS, but my GSM provider staunchly affirm that this is not their problem, but Googles, and anyhow, they can not contact RIM.
    What options do I have to force BIS to accept a given domain as being a Google Apps domain?

  • Cannot turn on notifications for Google app

    I want to make use of the new Google Now reminders feature that's part of the Google app. However, when I try to use it, it says notifications must be enabled for it to work. But when I go to the notification center in the settings app, Google is not in the list, so I cannot enable the notifications.
    I tried removing the Google app and re-adding it, but this didn't help. Is there any way to add Google to the list of apps in the notification center?

    Never mind - it appeared in Notification Center on its own after an hour or so!

  • IMessage Activation Failing for Google Apps Hosted Email Addresses

    I'm having failuers when I try to add additional emails addresses to iMessage on iOS 7.0.4.  It appears that the failure has to do with email being hosted on non-primary systems.  example:
    [email protected]  verifies
    [email protected]  failes  MX record says google.com
    [email protected] verifies
    [email protected] which is hosted on prodigy servers, failes. MX record resolves to prodigy.net
    Is there a work around for this.  resending the validation email doesn't seem to make a difference.

    This was entirely my fault.  I had two different AppleIDs with which I was trying to use the same email address.

  • Is Edge Animate the best Adobe program for creating app demos?

    I would like to create an animated demo (video?) that shows a mobile app UX as if someone is interacting with it...(ie. fly-out menus, zooming, scrolling, etc.) It is not meant to be interactive but rather just observed by the audience. I plan to include these in my online portfolio but I am not sure which Adobe app would best accomplish this. Is Edge Animate the best option for me?
    Here is a great example of what i am trying to achieve...

    When you say "App demos", are you referring to software applications? If so, Adobe Captivate is something to consider.

  • Configuring Server DNS for Mail on Google Apps

    I'm trying to configure the DNS on my Snow Leopard Server for mail.mydomain.com to point to Google for Google Apps mail hosting.
    I thought I could go into mydomain.com and put an alias record to point to ghs.google.com, but that's no longer working. Any ideas of how to get around this? Is there something else I'm doing wrong?

    I figured out the problem. It had to do with an alias record hanging up the DNS.

  • Exchange 2010 Google Apps Split Delivery

    The situation I'm facing is a little confusing.
    Our organization has Exchange 2010 email accounts in place for all staff with an address scheme of
    [email protected]
    We recently signed up for Google Apps and are using the same domain name for those accounts as well.
    These accounts are for our students with the address scheme of
    [email protected].
    With using the same domain name we are looking to a split delivery solution I’m assuming to make this work.
    In theory what we are looking for would be that if an email is sent to a recipient at mydomain.com it would come through our Exchange server.
    It would look for the intended email account.  If it were for a staff member an account would be present and the mail would stop there.
    However if it were for a student it would not find the account and then pass through to Google’s servers by way of a send receiver.
    I have set up the send receivers according to the documentation from the following website:
    http://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/show/38537-ms-exchange-and-google-apps-split-delivery-for-single-domain-name-k-12-school-sample-shown
    These steps include-
     Setting the accepted domain from “Authoritative” to “Internal Relay”
    Setting up a send connector to point to Google’s servers with a cost of 1 to make it priority.
    Since we currently have a send connector setup to route email out through our spam filter, that would go to a cost of 2.
    The issue seems to be that when the send connector that is pushing the mail to Google’s servers is set to a cost of 1, giving it priority, it then creates a send loop for the staff members sending
    email from Exchange.
    The Google student accounts do not receive any mail from outside without a send connector in place to tell the emails to go to the Google servers to look for those accounts since our MX records
    point to our spam filter.  I know I have read multiple place that it would be easier to have the MX records point to Google for the domain and then set up routing on that end to push email to unknown accounts to our Exchange server, however
    we would like to route it the opposite of that.
    Please let me know if I have overlooked anything, however at this point I’m stumped.
    Thank you for your time.

    What are the namespaces on the two connectors ?

  • Google Apps with Mac OS X Server configured clients?

    Hi experts,
    I'm considering a Mac Mini Server for file sharing and running as a server for a custom office application (MacPractice), but I'm uncertain how this would work with Google Apps that we're using today.
    Specifically, we have a few iMacs that I'd like to allow any user to log into and have them auto-configured to use google apps in Mail and iCal. From the reading I've done, I think I can do this using the Preference Editor in Workgroup Manager.
    My questions are:
    1. Can anyone confirm that Mail and iCal can be configured using Preference Editor?
    2. Also, I'm assuming I'll have to do a separate config setup for each user since their usernames on Google Apps are all different. Correct?
    3. Finally, will the user's password for Google Apps in... say Mail... be stored locally on each iMac? i.e. Will they have to re-entre the password every time they log into a different iMac? Or can this be accomplished with a network based home directory (something I really don't want to do).
    Thanks gurus!

    Hello ToadRuby,
    It sounds like you need to upgrade your operating system
    Mac OS X 10.6 is a software upgrade and is available from the Apple Store here:

    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • ICal Error Message Using google apps

    I keep getting an error message from iCal stating:
    I went to support for google apps and he had me check the set up, decided it should be set up again for Mountain Lion (I upgraded about 4 weeks ago). About an hour after all of this was done I got the same basic error message, just the numbers in the address it says it doesn't support changed. Anybody else experience this?

    Sorry, the error message may not be showing. Basically, it is not recognizing me as a user.

  • Google Apps (paid) cannot get mail

    I pay for Google Apps for Business, which includes sync. It has worked great on my 4S and iPad. My Google Apps dashboard has enabled all mobile devices. Today I got a 5S and when I set it up (correctly) I keep getting the dreaded "Cannot get mail. Connection to the server failed." message. I am losing my mind, have tried everything but it wont work and I am forced to set it up as a regular free gmail account (no sync, no push email) instead of an Exchange account. To repeat, I pay for Google Apps for Business. Please folks I am desperate!

  • Problem with Mail & Google Apps email account

    I have three personal Gmail accounts, and a Google Apps email account provided by the Open University. I've set these four accounts up in Mail to use IMAP.
    My three personal accounts work as expected, no problems there. Apparently – I'm still waiting for confirmation of this from the OU – it's only possible to send email from the Google Apps account if I use the web interface, not Mail or any other email client. This account is only accessible from my student home page which has its own login with unique user name and password; trying to log in with the same details via the usual Gmail login dialog doesn't work. However, before I learned this I tested the setup by sending email, with Mail, from my Google Apps account to each of my personal accounts, and all three emails seemed to arrive correctly.
    On seeing my name as the sender I assumed everything was o.k. and didn't check to see which actual address showed as the sender. A few days later on finding problems and repeating the test I was surprised to find that the mails had been sent from the first personal Gmail account I set up in Mail, not from the account I had specified. This is a massive security breach that gives scope for abuse and fraud, but is it by Mail or Google? If I can't send from the account I was trying to use I should receive an error message to tell me of a problem, not be deceived silently into thinking that everything was working properly when it wasn't.
    Has anyone experienced this, with Mail or another email client and Google Apps or another service? I'd really appreciate any comments and views about this behaviour because it worries me.
    TIA.
    Amasis

    Update:
    I've established for certain that Google only provide a web interface for Google Apps products, it says so in the first paragraph of the Google Apps SLA. Trying to set up sending from a Google Apps account with an email client will only get you the hassle, waste of time and headache that I've had. Google don't say this anywhere that I've found in Gmail help or the marketing stuff about Google Apps; it's up to the buyer of the service either read the SLA for themselves, or for an organisation buying it for their people to tell them clearly that they have to use the web interface, there's no other option. I've read some other posts here on this subject, those people have been just as frustrated and annoyed as I have.
    How I deal with Google – I assume it's the provider and not the software – diverting my emails, is another question. My email provider diverts its customers' emails without telling the customer. The potential for fraud and abuse is obvious but what can be done about it? Can anything be done about it? Apart from anything else, I want the service. It's free at point of use, but it's not free really, nothing ever is, but if I paid for it could I be sure this wouldn't or couldn't happen. Welcome to the 21st century. I've taken it up with the Open University as the provider of my Google Apps account; I'm going to write to my MP (I'm in UK) or an appropriate regulatory body if there is one, and see where it might go from there.

  • Mac Mail stops recieveing mail with Gmail Accounts and Google Apps

    Hi,
    We're having some chronic issues with our corporate Google Apps / Gmail service when used with Mac Mail. Regardless of the OSX version... when it's not one thing it's another. It's nice to see that 10.9.4 finally correctly inserts the proper, full username in the SMTP field for Google Apps users.
    We still have some problems where users stop receiving mail silently in the middle of their workday. It wouldn't be such an issue, except that Mac Mail pretends nothing is wrong and suddenly the person realizes they are 3 hours behind on their emails. Magically, quitting and re-opening mail resolves the issue. Even more disturbing, is this article on apple support which lists this stupidity as the official workaround
    OS X: New email messages not received until Mail is quit and reopened
    I suppose one could argue that Outlook 2011's integration with gmail accounts is even worse. There's something to be said about "AirMail" being the #2 app in all the appstore currently. Clearly Apple and Google aren't putting their best foot forward to make this work.
    I guess what I'm looking for is something concrete other than "Restart Mail to get mail coming in again". Is there some workaround to see the connection status to see if something is stalled?

    Googles version of an IMAP system works poorly with most clients. If you are going to use it then choosing a client that works the way Google wants them too is a wise course.
    Of that breed MailPlane is easily the best, AirMail is a solid second.

  • BlazeDS + Google App Engine

    Hi Guyz,
    BlazeDS is not working with Google App Engine. Although their is a quick fix provided by Martin Zoldano (http://martinzoldano.blogspot.com/2009/04/appengine-adobe-blazeds-fix.html ).
    Is their any plan for an official release with a fix for Google App Engine compatability?
    Thanks.

    Hi. There is no plan for this that I am aware of. I logged a feature request to add support for GAE which will get the issue on someone's radar.
    http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/BLZ-444
    The fix does look pretty small so may be possible to get this added at some point but we'd probably also want to do some additional testing with GAE.
