OK, DVR is now flashed to 1.37 = Still can't burn DVD+DL!

I have managed to flash my Pioneer DVR 110D to firmware revision 1.37, confirmed in Sys Prefs and all. Still, iDVD5 will not recognize it as a DL burner... I get no pop-up anywhere allowing me to change to an 8 Gig disc. Anyone have any ideas?
Yes, in ATA it says:
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D:
Model: PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D
Revision: 1.37
Detachable Drive: No
Protocol: ATAPI
Unit Number: 0
Socket Type: Internal
And in Disc burning it says:
PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D:
Firmware Revision: 1.37
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2000 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: No
...but iDVD5 won't give me a pop-up to burn DL and any attempt to burn or save dead-ends me with:
"Your project exceeds the maximum allowed content duration. You will not be able to burn your DVD."
I did a total shut down and restart, ran disc utility ot check permissions, etc., and nothing seems to work.

As a deperation measure, even though I had already updated iDVD 5.0 to 5.0.1, I downloaded and tried the updater again. Lo and behold, the 8Gig option pop-up returns! I'll never understand computers, but I hope this helps someone else out! Never discount running updaters a second time.

  • Upgraded to leoperd now I can't burn DVD's

Doesn't a compatible version of iDVD come w/ leoperd? Do I have to buy iLife too? Wouldn't someone have told me this when I was at the store buying the leoperd disc? Is there something I did wrong in the installation process?

Hi JDM and welcome to the forums!
Doesn't a compatible version of iDVD come w/ leoperd
The then current version of the iLife applications are included when you buy a new Mac with Leopard pre-installed.
Do I have to buy iLife too
Yes, if you want to upgrade to a newer version than the one that came with your Mac.
Wouldn't someone have told me this when I was at the store buying the leoperd disc?
Not if you didn't ask about iLife!
I deduce that your Mac did not have Leopard pre-installed when you bought it and that you purchased the Leopard install disk to upgrade from Tiger.
Is there something I did wrong in the installation process?
Possibly, if you have lost the ability to burn DVDs.
There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac, or even re-installing them, will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1338
(Just using Tiger as an example) Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version you are installing. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3, and when you have upgraded to Leopard.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • I used to be able to put in a DVD and it played but now it doesn't and i can't find DVD player in my application, what is going on?

Please help i am really stuck Thank you x

DVD Player is a default Apple app installed with the system. If not there, you deleted it. As a principle, to not delete Apple applications, which come with the system. i think you may copy it from another system, even if this is not the recommend method. A workaround is to download VLC, a free and good app for video and audio files, it may play any file, in fact.

  • Installed Skype and now Flash Player won't open in new window

I installed the latest version of Skype and now Flash Player does not work properly.
I just bought a new laptop, it has Windows 7, 32 bit, IE 9, and Flash 10.
A website that I go to all the time uses Flash Player so when you click on a link in the site it pops out the player into a new window and you can listen while you still browse on their site.  After I installed Skype last night, that 'pop-out' function is no longer there.  The player now replaces the webpage and it is very large and distorted because it is supposed to be in a small pop-out window.  No matter what I click, I can't get the link to open in a new window, it always opens in the same window replacing the webpage.
I uninstalled Skype and then used the manual uninstaller of Flash because the uninstall would not work from the uninstall screen in Windows.  I then reinstalled the latest version of Flash Player and I still have the same problem.
Is this a setting that I can change somewhere??
    Thank you.

Hi eidnolb, thanks for the reply.
I did uninstall the google toolbar that was installed with skype.
I now found that it is not just flash player that won't open in a new window, I can't get any link at all to open in a new tab or a new window.
I tried restoring IE's settings and that did not work.
I know this is an adobe forum and my problem is now much larger than just adobe, but if you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks.

  • Airport Extreme , Router, Modem set up question: Extreme now flashing yello

Trying to help a disabled friend and my thinking is stuck
Friend has new Macbook, using it wirelessly. Setup which was fine until this week: Older cable modem needs a Wireless Router piggybacked onto it to accommodate wireless. Modem connected to Cable Ethernet hooks the router to the Modem. AirportE Extreme connected via Ethernet cable to the Router. Until this week, Airport showed the solid normal green. The disabled man " did something on his computer" - he cannot recall what he did - may have been a firmware upgrade message- and lost connectivity.
Last night I re-establshed connectivity but the Airport now flashes yellow and Airport Utility cannot find the Airport.
Despite that , the man has internet connection, Network Preference shows Green radio buttons for Internet and the Airport signal thingee in the menu bar shows all bars black.
    My puzzle:
    1) the Extreme flahing yellow and cannot be found
    2) The network which is active, named Router is NOT the network which was active ( I set up things up initially months ago, have notes which indicate we had a different network operative in past)
    3) I cannot use Manual set up.. that option remains grayed out
    4) I tried to reset Airport Extreme to factory settings, but Holding a pen tip in the reset button for well over a minute did not seem to reset anything.
With all this, the man has internet connectivity! I saw it, tested it (went to website that could not have been in the cache, sent myself an email.. connections are patent but I do not know how.
Is it possible the gentleman's attempt to do the firmware update scrambled the Airport extreme?
Any thoughts what I might try?
I also asked the gentleman to call the ISP about an updated cable modem so we don't need to piggy back the linksys router to get wireless.

Directly connect a computer to one of the Extreme's LAN ports and open AirPort Utility. Does this allow AirPort Utility to find the Extreme?

    Hi NWL1,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the iPhone won't update and is stuck. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Download Taskbar now flashes when a file finishes instead of when it starts the download

I just recently upgraded to Firefox 8.0. In the previous version, when starting a download, the taskbar would flash as the download began. Since updating I've noticed that the taskbar now flashes orange when the file finishes downloading. While I understand that this may be useful for many, if not most, folks, I'd really prefer to change the timing so that the "alert" happens as a download begins. Is this something I can adjust, or is this behavior "hardwired" into FF 8?

You mention changing some settings. What were they?
You could try turning off integrated virus scanning. This assumes that you have real-time virus scanning of files added to the file system via McAfee or another product.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''scan''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click '''browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone''' to toggle its value.
Besides the obvious -- that this setting points your AV software at the file -- it also marks the file as sourced from the web, which causes Windows to apply certain security restrictions to the file. If you find that this change resolves the issue, the file disappearance might have been due to your IE security settings for the Internet zone.

  • Update "Successful" now Flash Player has vanished

This morning (11-13-14), upon booting my computer, I received an ordinary update request from Adobe FlashPlayer. I get these pretty frequently. Normally, they update quickly and work just fine. So I clicked Update. Update completed successfully. However, now my Flash Player is completely gone.
So I followed the manual install instructions. Downloaded
    install_flashplayer15x32_mssd_aaa_aih.exe
I doubleclicked the file as instructed, and it installed successfully, according to the on-screen messages.  However, when I try to do anything that requires Flash Player, Firefox still claims that there is no Flash Player installed.
One of the troubleshooting instructions on the Adobe Flash Player website said to download the uninstaller for Flash Player and then reinstall. I did that. Exact same result. Flash Player is not installed and does not exist. No error messages. Everything claims to be successful, but the player just doesn't seem to exist.
Next attempt: Downloaded the full 17.0 MB file (install_flash_player.exe), download completes successfully. Install Successful. Same result. --- no Flash Player.
I attempted the install instructions again trying a couple different things including 1) shutting down all other programs during the install process and 2) rebooting the computer after the install process. None of these additional instructions helped. Same result. No Flash Player.
I use Firefox for everything. So I tried IE just for fun. Oddly, Flash Player in IE works fine. *sigh* Flash Player for Firefox still does not.
    Any suggestion are appreciated.
    System:
    OS: Windows 7 Pro SP1
    Browser: Firefox 33.1
    Sincerely,
    Detah

  • I've updated to Firefox 7.01, and now Flash Player 11 doesn't work, even though everything says that it's been successfully installed on Firefox. What to do?

I've downloaded Flash Player 11.0.1.152 for non-IE browsers from the Adobe Download Center, installed it all fine, says it's successfully installed even on this page:
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
But it still tells me to download it when I try to play YouTube videos, BBC iPlayer, etc. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit, though that shouldn't be a problem since the installer says that it includes both 64-bit and 32-bit versions (which should suit the 32-bit Firefox 7.01 just fine).

Problem fixed. Had to uninstall Flash from the control panel and then reinstall.

  • Just now i am installed latest version of Flash Player but it still showing same message An Error occurred

i have already posted a question and you send a answer to my mail and them i am updated flash plater but is still showing an error in youtube but in other browsers those liks are working

  • DVR-111D now only supports 4x DVD-R after crash

While buring a stack of Verbatim DVD-R 16x discs I had Toast 7.1.2 reset more than once when I used the keyboard eject key to close the drive door with a new blank inserted. Now, discs from the same spindle are only recognised as 4x speed instead of max 16x being choice. (I was burning at 12x).
At first I thought it was an anomaly but subsequent discs are also only showing 4x option as fastest. What gives?

Hmmm… I just picked up my half full Verbatim 50 disc spindle and forcefully shook (and I do mean shook) it on the horizontal plane. Nothing. Well not exactly nothing but the only noise came from the discs hole in the centre moving less that a 1/4 mm on the spindle. I would hardly call this dangerous even if I decided to attach it to a paint mixer.
Yes if I shook it on the vertical plane the discs would move greatly although when full the discs are packed tight to the top.
I still can't see how a smooth surfaced disc can cause damage to another smooth surface disc it's sitting on and under even if there was more play in the spindle and disc hole. The only way I can see for there to be enough movement to damage the reflective surface is if the discs are rotated on one another with pressure and who's going to do that?
Most likely you simply got a bad batch of discs. Did you actually see physical damage on the discs? If not then the fact that they were in a spindle was not your problem.

  • All of my purchased apps (games) and apps such as Weight Watchers, Facebook, WeatherBug, Sports and Pinterest, Notes, Nook, etc.  are all locked up.  They simply flash, then nothing!  How can I fix this to make them work again.

First Issue:   All of my purchased apps (games) and apps such as Weight Watchers, Facebook, WeatherBug, Sports and Pinterest, Notes, Nook, etc.  are all locked up.  They simply flash, then nothing!  How can I fix this to make them work again?  If I have to delete the purchased apps, will they still be in iTunes, or will I have to re-purchase them?
Second Issue:   When I synced to my desktop (Windows XP)  All my photos loaded onto my iPad2.  I don't really want all 3000 + pics on my ipad!!  How do I get them off?  Next time I synced, they loaded again!  Now I have so many duplicates!  How do I get rid of the photos and prevent this from happening again?

If none of your third-party apps are working, but the Apple built-in ones are ok, then try downloading any free app from the store (as that appears to reset something) and then re-try them - the free app can then be deleted. In terms of re-downloading apps then you can do so as long as they are still available in the store, and you use the same iTunes account as you originally used to buy them, then you should be able to re-download them for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
For synced photos, then with the iPad connected to and selected on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes, then on the Photos tab on the right-hand side you can control which photos are synced to the iPad : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236 . If you don't want any photos to be synced then try selecting just an empty folder.

  • "Install Adobe Flash Player" is damaged and can't be opened

The subject line of this discussion is what is displayed when I go to try to install Adobe Flash. I have a Mac OS X 10.9.3. I had Flash downloaded for a while, but the last update wouldn't update. It would download, but then when I went to open it it would say "Retrieving Install" and the meter would remain at 0%. It never went a step beyond that. After trying many times, per the instructions of the website, I deleted Flash from my computer using the Adobe uninstaller downloaded from this site. Now that I am trying to reinstall Flash I keep getting the message "'Install Adobe Flash Player' is damaged and can't be opened. You should eject the disk image". What should I do from here? I would appreciate any help!

You should make sure you do a complete uninstall of the flash player first and then install the latest FP14 version from this link - Use http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_osx.dm g
In order to do a complete uninstall - Uninstall Flash Player | Mac OS

  • Flash Player Install Error: Memory can not be "written"

Actual error (with fake addresses because I get a different address each time it fails this way) is
    CAPTION: iexplore.exe - Application error
TEXT: "The instruction at "0x99999999" referenced memory at "0x99999999". The memory could not be "written".
So far I have used the uninstall_flash_player.exe and tried the reset_fp10.cmd with the MS subinacl.exe tool. I have used a registry
scrubber (RegScrubXP) and re-tried all of the above. I still can not get the flash player to load and I still get the error each time I try. I have run IE8 manage add-ons and the flash player is not listed. I am at my wit's end, I have searched everywhere and tried everything. This is a brand new computer with very little other than MS products loaded. Nothing is loaded that is not loaded on my other 3 computers that run flash player 10 just fine. I have run complete diagnostics on mt Thinkpad t500 and all checks out.
    Machine: Lenovo ThinkPad model 2242CTO
Processor: Intel Core 2 DUO @ 2.53 Ghz
Operating System: Windows XP Professional SP 3
    Browser: Microsoft IE 8

I had the same problem as previous described.  Some how I lost Flash Player.  The first indication I got was when I went to Utube site and tried to view aa clip.  It came back with an error saying I had java turned off or Flash Player was not installed.  It gave me link to install flash player and tried to install it and failed with memory written error.  The error message also said it was coming from Abode DLM. I was also at the point that a banner appeared that said an Adove system was trying to install and add on DLM.   This also caused IE to hang and it took quite sometime to close the IE to get out this hang condition with a bunch of error reports being sent to MIcrosoft.  After going to Sun System and testing my Java which it said was ok, I tried to install flash player.  Same thing happen.again.  I download Flash Player uninstall and ran it.  Tried install again.  Same results.  I found Adobe tech note how to uninstalled DLM.  I found none of the modules that it indicated should be deleted.  I tried installing Acrobat Reader which I already have on the system same error.  I found this forum and tried manual loading of Flash Player and that worked.  Now things are working ok except that if I try to download Flash player It still fails but the error has changed a little.  I hear the beep to approve the install of DLM addon  but IE fails cleanly and when I close the window said had the following error. I think the problem is DLM add on related.
    I am running IE V 8.0.6.001.18702

  • Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K05 superdrive can't erase or burn DVD-RW

I've noticed lots of users are having issues with their slot-loading superdrives and I'm wondering if anyone's issue matches this one:
I can successfully read and write: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-DL and can READ an already burned DVD-RW, but I can't erase a DVD-RW that's already burned nor can I burn a blank DVD-RW. Inserting a blank DVD-RW results in ejecting the disc after about 30 seconds, no error messages, just ejects.
I've tried Maxell DVD-RW and Memorex DVD-RW. Same results.
An already burned DVD-RW (from a different burner) mounts fine on the desktop, but when I try to erase using Toast 7, I get the following message:
    The drive reported an error:
    Sense Key = ILLEGAL REQUEST
    Sense Code = 0x30, 0x05
CANNOT WRITE MEDIUM - INCOMPATIBLE FORMAT
It recognizes that it's a DVD-RW, but treats it as though it were a DVD-R.
Using Disk Utility to erase results in a more generic error message:
Optical Erase failed with the error:
    Optical Erase Failed
I had an online chat with an Apple rep who had me reset the PRAM, no change. Then we tried from another account, no change. Their next recommendation was to re-install the OS using Archive and Install, which I have my doubts about doing. Failing that, they recommend bringing the iMac in to a service store to possibly replace the drive. But based on what I've been reading about all the different superdrive problems users are having, I'm reluctant to even do that for fear of having an even worse problem with a different drive crop up at some point.
Has anyone out there had this exact problem and found a solution yet?
Seems like a simple firmware update for the drive could fix everything but I'm unable to find one.
Here's the drive specs from the Apple System Profiler:

    hi there--
instead of just resetting pram i would try booting to
open firmware holding apple-option-o-f and then type
    in the following commands--
    reset-nvram (hit return)
    set-defaults (hit return)
    reset-all (hit return)
the last command restarts the computer. see if that
works. if it doesn't then try resetting the smu.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301733
there is a remote possibility that this is software
related, but it almost never is, and these things
are much more likely to resolve your problem than
doing an archive and install, and they are much less
hassle free. let me know if that works. [ 8 ) ]
OK, I booted into open firmware and did all the resets. No improvement. In fact, now I can't even mount some DVD-Rs that I had successfully burned before and mounted before. The drive has always been a little touchy with some discs, especially DVDs, but now seems to be even more hit-and-miss. CD-R and CD-RW reliably mount but DVDs have me worried. It took a long time for my OS X install disc to mount and display the window.
I think it may be time to take it in to Apple and replace it. I may also consider purchasing a Firewire burner with a tray!
Just wondering also if PatchBurn would fix this by creating a new profile or if this truly is a hardware issue. http://www.patchburn.de/
    Thanks for your help.
