Old Clip vs New Clip VI

Hi,
In my old program, clip.vi (attached) was used. Now, I'd like to use Y[i]=clip{X[i]}.vi (under signal processing->singal operation) instead. But, the output seems different if I use the new VI.
My inputs are array and I'm using Laview 2009.
Thanks,
Jay

Actually, I have no idea why this VI exists as you can just pass the array through an In Range and Coerce function.
There are two reasons:
1. Getting more time to relax by waiting for the VI to complete.
2. Getting a reason to beg for an new machine with 64 bit OS and a lot of GByte of RAM.
BTW: The times displayed are in milliseconds for an array of 4000000 elements.
I ran into an optimization trap. The zero value for In Range and Coerce will only occur when you don't use any output. I added a wire to compare if the arrays are identical. Now I get 200 ms for the In Range and Coerce and 250 ms for Clip.vi.

  • Relinking new clips distorts image

    Hello Final Cut Wizards!
I have a project that I'm working on for a client, and the previous editor did several things incorrectly which I am trying to fix.  The timeline sequence settings didn't match the clip settings, and the footage was never converted from H.264 mov to Pro Res.  I have converted all the footage to prores and made a new timeline sequence that matches the converted clips.  My hope is to not have to rebuild the entire timeline from scratch.  When I erase some of the old clips I can relink their corresponding new converted clips.  HOWEVER, when I do this, either the aspect ratio of the new clip is messed up, (ie shows up smaller in the canvas and viewer, or with black bars on the top and bottom, and sometimes the video itself is flattened in its aspect ratio.) and it needs to be rendered constantly (just like when the original h.264 clips were in use).
Does anyone have any ideas on why this could be, or how I can still use the sequence project plan without rebuilding it?
    Thanks!!

    Hi MtD,
Thanks for your attention and help!
The first editor had put the 1920x1080 h264 clips into a sequence set to 720x480.
The client has given me footage that is both 23.98 fps and 29.97 fps,all 1920X1080 h264.  now that it's converted it's all apple pro res 1920x1080 (some in 23.98, some in 29.97).  When I put one of the new converted clips into a new sequence, I clicked yes, make the sequence settings the same as the clip settings.
I am confused as to why it says HDTV 1080i becuase I'm fairly certain in mpeg stream clip I selected 1920 x 1080 16:9.  Would the 1080i be causing problems?
Would the differing frame rates?  It doesnt seem like these should affect the aspect ratio?
Here is a screen shot of a clip that I put into the project file on the new timeline with the new converted clip.  It is smaller than the full canvas and also distorted in it's aspect ratio.
    I'm confused (And sleepy!)
Thanks in advance for any further guidance!

  • What settings for new clips in my project?

I have some new clips that I need to add to an existing project. The info for the existing project is
DV PAL anamorphic preset and the footage that has been imported and editited to the project was taken from my standard def DVD's and exported to quicktime using MPEG streamclip with these settings
    *Compression: Apple DV-PAL*
    *Frame-Size: 720x576*
    *Frame-Rate: 25*
    *Sound: Uncompressed Stereo 48kHz*
I have some new clips to add, which are HD and this is the info
    Video Tracks:
    h264, 1280 × 720, 30 fps, 9.69 Mbps
Is it best to use the same MPEG streamslips settings and export to Quicktime as per the original footage or is there a better way to preserve the higher quality of the HD file that will still work with the original footage in the project?
    Many thanks

I have followed the steps above but the quality is noticably worse than the rest of my footage in the project. I wonder if I am doing it correctly or if I should start a new project?
I export from mpeg streamclip to Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC :Quality 100% 30 Frames Frame size 720 x 480
I then use JesDinterlacer to perform the standards conversion. I select output then export to quicktime movie and use these settings

How can I stop iMovie from making thumbnails of clips from past projects when first opening the program to digitize new clips for a new project. It takes forever for it and is very annoying. I have looked in the preferences and couldn't figure out what would disable this problem.

You do not need to move your cursor much when pressing the mouse button to cause the tab to tear-off/tear-away into a new tab. No "sensitivity" setting that I am aware of. The tab in the new window can be dragged back to the original window.
To disable the feature, install this: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bug489729-disable-detach-and-t/

an event in one of my libraries no longer has the event icon next to it's name in the browser just the name only. I can't view the clips in the event or import new clips. I've tried deleting the event and nothing. After control clicking the event it shows all the media that has been previously imported. But it does not allow anything to be done to the event including deleting. This showed up at the beginning of a normal import session. This is fortunately the back-up evant.

Did you perhaps mess with the contents of the library in the Finder?

  • How do I eliminate the delay in reducing background noise with each new clip?

My microphones pick up a fair amount of background nosie.  At 60% reduction with iMovie's built in editor it sounds perfect.  The only problem is that it takes about .5 seconds to go from zero reduction to 60%.  If this were only at the start of the new movie, that would be fine.  But this occurs at every new clip.  I'm editing together a long series of short, ten second clips...so there is a distracting hissing of background noise once every ten seconds.  Any help on this would be great.

  • Where is the import option for "Start a new clip at each scene break" in iMovie 2013?

I am currently in the process of importing several mini-DV tapes via firewire into iMovie 2013. I have the most recent version of iMovie and am using a Sony Handycam to facilitate the transfer. The problem I am having is that when I hit import, iMovie splits what is supposed to be a single scene into multiple scenes ranging anywhere from a second to 5 minutes. I am left with several scene chunks that I cannot combine into one. I did a little research and found that iMovie is probably deinterlacing my scenes as it mistakes them for multiple scene breaks. In the older iMovie options, all I had to do was to go to "Preferences" -> "Import" -> then deselect "Start a new clip at each scene break". However, this option doesn't appear to be available in iMovie 2013. Is there a way I can force iMovie 2013 to import a single scene from my mini-DV camcorder without breaking it into multiple clips? Thanks!

1st : this is the wrong forum, this is iMovie for ipod/iphone and ipad ( iOS is the OSX mobile Operating System )
2nd : iMovie 11 is the current OSX version.  iMovie 06 was the last of its kind, all newer, including iMovie 09 have complete new workflow, so functions of 06 are gone and have replaced with others.

I have an old project with AVCHD clips and I want to import the clips again with surround sound. How can I relink the project clips to the re-imported ones without doing the project from the begining?
I have a sony handicam and I imported the clips to iMovie and they lost quality and converted the audio to stereo. I want to import the project to final cut X and import the AVCHD in 1080p and surround sound and export the movie in bluray. Can I relink the clips without editing everything again?
    thanks!

Only photos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view.
Photos that were synced from a computer are deleted by moving/removing/de-selecting them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing. If you want to remove them all then normally you could just sync an empty folder (in terms of photos) to the iPad, but as you don't want to sync at the moment you can't do that.
You can reset the iPad back to factory settings and start from scratch with it : Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content And Settings

    1. Why don't you purchase it from Apple? I'd be wary with eBay sellers - and, after all, Apple posts their stuff everywhere, even if you live in a country without a localized Apple store webpage or local (physical) Apple stores.
    2. when it comes to adapters / cables like these, NEVER purchase ANYTHING non-Apple-manufactured! Most of the cheap(er) knock-offs don't work! That is, don't try to save on going for a cheaper alternative - it most likely won't work.

  • HDV batch capture is making new clips...

    thanks for watching...
i have imported batch lists into FCP with name, media start, media end, reel and log note just as the FCP manual instructs. they import fine and i have them all in their own bins.
i batch captured a few tapes to day and i noticed that FCP is making new clips at times. for instance i'll have a clip "dogs" in the original batch list. after the batch capture there will be "dogs" and "dogs -1" the starting time code of "dogs" and the ending timecode of "dogs -1" are the original start and end of the clip. so, FCP has spit this clip in two for some reason. why is that?
i thought it might have to do with the setting "make new clip on Start/stop" thats listed in the clip settings tab of the log/capture window. so i made sure this was unclicked and then tried another batch , also making sure to uncheck "use original clip settings" in the batch window. but, the problem still persists.
i have 30 tapes to digitize and i'd prefer the clips matched the batch lists. any ideas i can try to solve this problem?
    take care,

Is it a new media drive?
how is your media drive formatted? highlight the drive on the desktop and press command(apple)+i to get info...
Where it says 'Format' it should read Mac OS Extended... does yours say FAT 32 by any chance?
FAT32 is a different format that can be read by PCs and Macs... it can only store file sizes of 2Gb, so has the knock-on effect of causing FCP to break captures into smaller chunks.
If your drive is FAT32 you need to re-format it using Disc Utility. When you do this, you will lose everything on that drive, so back it up if possible.
If your drive is formatted correctly, post back with your media set-up, ie - what drives you use, how is your capture scratch configured etc.

  • During Import, scene breaks are not starting new clip.

Imovie HD: When importing from my camcorder (Mini DV) scene breaks are not starting new clips. The video is going into one clip which I then have to manually split each scene into individual clips before editing.
My preferences are set to: Import/Start a new clip at each scene break=ON..
The last time I used Imovie4, this same thing occurred. Prior to that, in Imovie4, it worked as advertised.
Could it be my camera settings?? Panasonic PV-DV910

    Problem solved.
I normally do not have the date and time displayed in the camera's viewfinder. So, I didn't realize that the date/time had been reset to 1998 and not active. After setting to date/time to the present, NEW recording - when imported - was being split into individual clips at the scene breaks.
However the previously recorded video would not.
My punishment for my lapse is to manually do the "split". But I am a much wiser videographer.

  • When capturing FCP makes new clips

When I am capturing from a tape, FCP creates a new clip every time I pressed stop and then start again on the camera to change my shot. There are no time code breaks in the tape but I don't know how FCP is creating a new clip every time I change my angles.
    Please help.

My crystal ball says you shot HDV ... and this is how FCP works with HDV capture, because thats how your camera works. The problem is that every time you start/stop recording in camera you are creating a new and separate clip that is stored on tape, even though the timecode is contiguous the clips are separate MPEG2 data structure entities. During HDV capture FCP is just copying the MPEG2 data structures stored on tape onto your hard disc (and wrapping that data up as a Quicktime Movie in the process) and every time the it encounters a new clip in the data stream then thats what is created on your hard disc.
If you do not want this to happen then you can use an I/O device to facilitate capturing your footage from your camera via a video output instead of via firewire. Matrox make very affordable I/O hardware with some great features ... check out the MXO2 Mini. Blackmagic's Intensity card may not be as feature rich but offers superb value for money if you are working on a desktop system only.
    Hope it helps explain things

  • Insert new clip cuts and splits the music track

    Hi all FCE4 users!
My question is regarding when inserting a new clip on the timeline that has audio to it and when doing the insertion, the existing audiotrack on channel A3 & A4 are split and in between them on channel A1 and A2 the video audio is put.
How do I make this not happen?
I want the audio tracks just to mix, or in this case, I actually do not want ANY sound from the videoclips that I insert, because I am making sort of a music video.
Thankful for any kind of helpful answer!
    Sincerely,
    --Andreas B

Deselect audio to A1/A2 so the audio isn't edited into the timeline, and click on the lock buttons for tracks A3/A4.

  • IMovie 5 - new clips at each hour

    Hello,
I often get final picture edits on tape, and these need to be converted to QT for a chase computer in an audio post workflow. I'm currently using iMovie HD (v5.02) for this through a Canopus ADVC-100 firewire box.
iMovie5 always starts a new clip at a few seconds past each hour of import - so a 2h30m program would have 3 clips. This is a problem because to make one long QT movie takes a long time to render and occupies double the disk space. I've heard there are third-party QT file-combiners, but other than being nervous they'll skip a frame they still take a while and require double the disk space because they generate a new file. For programs shorter than one hour I go to the project, Show Package Contents, and remove the DV file for use. This skips the slow render process.
At someone's helpful suggestion I've tried the freeware Vidi import app and it works as I need it to, but it's very basic (probably why it does well) without an elapsed time counter, something I'd like to have. iMovie does nicely but I need to figure out how to import one long file.
Is there any way to get iMovie to stop generating a new clip at each hour? Of course I uncheck the "new clip at scene breaks" although that wouldn't affect it because it's one long program, and it's time related not scene-related.
Does iMovie 6 do the same thing? If I upgrade will it import as one long file?
    Thanks
    Hugh
    G4-17 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hello,
Thanks both of you for the info, the iMovie limitation is what I wanted to know. I've tried Vidi, a freeware capture app, and it seems to do fine but I'm hoping to get a few more features. I'll also give BTVPro a try. I've tried recording directly in QTPro and it's crashed a couple of times so I'm concerned about introducing it into a real workflow. You may be right, maybe FCP is the next step but since I'm only interested in continuous import I'm trying other options first.
I'll also take a look at the cache solution you mentioned. It will occupy more disk space but may be fast enough.
    Thanks again,
    Hugh
