OMF Import Crashes Audition

Could someone offer some insight with this issue, please?
I recently final mixed a 39 part long form series.  The picture was supplied on Batacam (it is an SD show) and sync sound as an OMF.  The workflow got a bit cumbersome, so bear with me while I explain it, because of the limitation of Premiere not able to import OMF files directly.
I used PremierePro CS6 to lay mood music tracks, as I prefer it than doing this directly in ProTools.
To get the OMF (sync audio) into Premiere, I sent the timeline from Premiere to Audition, then imported the OMFs into Audition and sent the sequence back to Premiere.  Once the music was laid down on the timeline, I would then delete the OMF tracks and export the music tracks to OMF.
In Protools, I would then open up the music OMF tracks, then open the original sync OMF tracks and mix out the program.
As I said - a bit cumersome, but it worked perfectly.
This show has now started in a new season, so I maintained the same workflow.  The issue that has occured, is that I am now not able to import the sync OMF into Audition, as it crashes half way through.  It is a hard crash, just switching Audition off, so to speak!
I tested several of the 39 older OMF files and those that I tested, all importted perfectly into Audition.  The template used from the editor to create the OMF in an Avid setup has not been changed, so the export settings are the same as they were.  I then wondered if there was a mixed sample rate causing the issue, but all sync audio coming out of the Avid is 48K as requested.
I know that I can send a crash log to Adobe, but I am not sure what happens if I click 'send' and if they will get back to me personally.  I doubt it!  The issue is becoming urgent, so I thought that I would ask here, in an attempt to expedite a solution.
The OMFs that are causing the crash have been imported into ProTools without any issue, so I can't understand why Audition would have an issue.
Any thoughts and help would be appreciated.

Audition's OMF functionality is one of the best but there is no such thing as a standard OMF so I'm not surprised that problems arise from time to time (though hopefully rarely)
Obviously there must be something different about that OMF
I would be happy to check it out (in confidence of course) if that is any help to you

  • Import Format Audit FDM

I have a few questions around import formats as I have recently seen some new approached that I have not seen before:
Firstly are Import Formats auditable? Can the changes etc be tracked?
Secondly the formats I see are concatenating GL accounts and a few things from the GL to create a new "unique" account that is then mapped in FDM.
    E.g.,
    in the GL
    GL Account
    810000 - Revenue $10,000
    GL Attribute1
    BL - Blue
    GL Attribute2
    T1 - Dakota
    FDM Import
Then creates a source GL Account of
    810000BLT1
    FDM mapping
    810000BLT1 = TO_00001
    HFM
    TO_00001 $10,000
Has anyone seen this before, where effectively a new account is created from the import format ?

    1. I can't make a comment on FDMEE, but what is now 'classic' FDM does not audit the import format table. However if it is a requirement, then i am sure your DBA could sort something out
    2. Yes, this is quite common, but perhaps more for the other dimensions rather than the account dimension.

  • Importing Adobe Audition

I am a new Mac user and just purchased FC Studio. I would like to know:
    1. Is it possible to import Adobe Audition (WinXP) royalty free music into Soundtrack Pro?
    2. How to complete the import into Soundtrack Pro?
    Thank you for your help.

If you are talking about the Audition Loops that come with the program, I don't believe they can be used. They are a .cel filetype which I have never seen supported by other looping software. Only thing I can suggest is that you take loops that you like and export them as a .wav out of Auditon and then rebuild them as an Apple loop in STP. Pain in the butt, I know, but useable if there's a loop you really need.

  • OMF Import Problem

I have a problem importing an .omf into Soundtrack Pro.
If the .omf is less than 50 MB then it's no problem... but anything larger and then import staus bar just hangs at 50% and I've got to force quit STP to get out of it.
Doesn't make any difference how many tracks or how long the project is, it just seems that 50 MB (or thereabouts,) is my maximum... which is not very big.
Tried on a number of different projects creating .omfs from FCP-6.0.3
The .omf files open up fine in ProTools LE so I'm sure that the files themselves are not corrupted.
    Using STP 2.0.2 on Leopard 10.5.3 with a MacPro, 3GHz 8-Core, 10GB RAM
    Thoughts anyone?
    LEE C.

I've had the same issue. I've been doing any OMF importing on my G5 running OS10.4.11 and moving things over to my MacPro system after the import etc is complete. It's a pain and takes much longer than it should to do this type of thing. I move things in and out of ProTools quite a bit, so speeding this process up by making it work reliably in Leopard would be great. Though I'm not sure if it's an OS issue or an Intel issue. I just know STP has become even less stable / reliable since my move to a new MacPro from my G5. I wonder if Logic performs any better on this front.

  • OMF Import out of sync

I've got a full length feature I've done in Final Cut (90 minutes). There are 10 tracks of audio. Four dialogue, two sound, and four music.
I exported an OMF out of Final Cut of all the tracks, and then imported it into Soundtrack. But, while in SoundTrack, some of the clips are off. It's like the clips are in sync for a few minutes, then out of sync for a few minutes, then back in sync for a few minutes, then back out, etc. It's like this all the way through the movie.
I'm using OMF because eventually, the ten tracks of audio will move into ProTools.
Has anyone experienced this? I need to know if this...
    1. Is the problem with FCP OMF export?
    2. Is the problem with Soundtrack OMF import?
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Russ

I have had some simailer issues exporting OMF's out of FCP 6.0.1. I never had an issue with sync when i was exporting omf's out of FCP 5.1.4. I would normaly give my omf to my audio guy and he would mix in protools. Now I have him using Soundtrack Pro 2 to mix and we found sync issues with importing the omf's. I called Apple Pro support and the weren't much help other than to say omf's are cluncky.
So I asked my audio guy to import the newly created OMF from fcp 6.0.1 into pro tools to see if this is a FCP issue or a STP issue. He is going to try that tonight and I will let you know what he finds out.
As for the current sync issue I have found that if you export your OMF out of fcp 6.0.1 and uncheck the 'include crossfade transitions' the sync issues seem to go away when you then import that new OMF into STP 2. So my guess is that it is a crossfade transition issue with STP 2. In the past I have always kept that checked and there were no problems in pro tools.
I hope this helps a bit.

  • Export Multitrack Mixdown Crashing Audition

    Hi there,
I've been helping some friends record an EP and am trying to export all the recorded audio to send to someone else to mix/master.  Someone else recorded for them originally and from those sessions we kept the drum and bass tracks, but i had to rerecord all the guitars and vocals for them.   I have been trying to Export a Multitrack Mixdown, but it has been crashing audition every time.  I believe the issue is that the original recordings are stereo, and all the stuff I recorded with them is mono.  I have been struggling to find a way to convert the mono recordings to dual mono, so if someone could point me in the right direction for that, that  could be a solution.  If anyone wants to take a look at the .sesx file too, that would be great.
The main issue is that I'm not able to get all of the clips exported as .wav files that are a uniform length, so that someone else is able to work on them.  I don't think it's a computing issue, as I have a fairly high powered PC, and there are no effects on any of the tracks.  I am able to export all the original recordings to wav files, but none of the new ones.
To let you know what I'm working with, I'm running Audition CS6 on a Windows 7 PC.  I covered everything I can think of at the moment, but let me know if I missed any details that could help solve this issue.  Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem. In fact, I've noted that a few people have had this problem, and no one from Audition has been able to provide a solution.
The only workaround I've seen that works (kind of) is to make sure every single track in your session is a stereo track. Delete all of your mono tracks. Notice that I did NOT say delete the mono CLIPS. Keep the clips, but move them into stereo tracks and delete the (now empty) mono tracks you have. Then, when you do a stem mixdown, it should work.
This is really annoying, believe me, I know. And it really sucks that these kinds of known issues rarely actually get addressed (the 5.0.2 update was meant to address channelization issues that could result in crashing, but it obviously didn't). Furthermore, since I am regularly working with other engineers who use other DAWs, this makes me wonder more and more why I continue to use Audition. Wouldn't it be easier to work in a platform, that, I don't know, does what it's supposed to do?

  • Logic express omf import in 7.2.1??

Now look I know others have asked this question, and its a logic pro only feature....but I found this:
"Apple has posted a maintenance release for Logic Express, the company’s mid-level audio production application. According to notes provided with the update, Logic Express 7.2.1 improves support with ReWire and ReCycle on Intel Macs; Standard MIDI file export; OMF import;......."
....it was on the macworld.com website....so is omf import an express 7.2, or 7.2.1 feature, and so can you export in omf....or is this completely untrue??!
    Thanks to anyone who knows
      Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!
**** it...thought it was too good to be true as I couldn't find it in any of the recent manuals....
I don't know why anyone wouldn't include that. It's the perfect way to tempt people on other DAW's....thanks anyway!

Wow, you are even more paranoid than me. Those are some good steps to take before upgrade. My upgrade went smooth, so I will list you my steps and you can compare.
    1. Turn off iPod completely (hold sleep, slide to power off)
    2. Download and install iTunes 8.2, reboot computer
    3. Turn on iPod and sync to new iTunes (this was my biggest fear since 8.2 is known for sync problems with touch and iphone)
    4. Buy, download and install 3.0 (total time around 40 min.)
    5. Eject from iTunes, power on/off (note: your app icons are gonna be all over the place across 4 pages so you have to do some rearranging
    6. Sync again
    7. Check wifi and reset network settings on iPod if signal is weak, or reset your router (I didn't have to do any of this but I reset my network setting on iPod anyway)
    8. Enjoy

  • How can I change session properties in Audition after omf import.

After importing an omf. Everything is imported correctly. But the session properties do not match. I would like to change it back to 24bit. How can I change the session properties such as bit depth, without having to create a new session? There used to be a advanced session properties window.

When you save the session in Audition, if you use 'Save As' then you'll get options to set the save defaults to whatever you want.

  • OMF importing Stereo Tracks are Seperate Mono?

    Hey guys,
When you import OMFs into audition, each stereo track from FCP comes in on a seperate mono track.  How do you make the 2 tracks that were originally stereo in FCP stereo in Audition so you dont have to make the same edit to the two seperate mono tracks every time?  This is killing me.. Im reading about this mix pasting idea and making a new stereo file but I have to do this for every track that is imported into my multi track project??  I'm so confused.  Anyone got any tips?
    Thanks,

    CRK Productions wrote:
As for mixing though in Audition, I have to make the exact same edit to both tracks?  Im in CS 5.5.  So if I keyframe one of the tracks from the "stereo pair"  I have to go up and add another keyframe and mimic my edits to the other track?  There is no way around this?
Yes, this is a bit of a snag... and one that for a completely different reason I ran into myself recently. The best solution I've come across so far (because it's free, and does exactly what it says it will) is Sound Devices' WaveAgent. Essentially, if you can easily decode into mono wav files, it will pack them into whatever format you want, all as one file. I use it to encode four mono files into one four-channel R64 file, which means that when you import it into Audition, it does exactly what you want - all edits occur on all four channels. It would do just the same for stereo.

  • Does OMF import work yet?

I currently use logic 7.1.1 and really need to be able to import audio sequences into logic from final cut pro. Is is fixed in the 7.2 version? I am hesitating to upgrade as there doesn't seem to be that much new for powerPC users.
Someone sent me an OMF of a 2 minute edit and logic crashes when trying to import it. I recall having this problem several times in the past but it is becoming more critical for me now. Do I really have to invest in ProTools?
Apple suggests using XML to get from Final Cut to Logic but as this doesn't seem to contain any media I can't see how this will really help my client get the whole project to me to work on, unless I take a drive and copy all the video media.
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    i investigated a little further:
when logic attempts to load it, it says "importing Media" and creates 85 audio files on the disk, then it says "importing composition" and crashes before completing.
my autoload is set to 44.1KHz but this OMF is 48kHz. if I set my song to 48kHz before importing the OMF it still crashes but this time the logic window doesn't completely disappear and it manages to save the song as autoload (crashed).lso, which i can then load up and see the regions. when loading, however, a message appears saying "1 invalid region changed". I have a feeling not all the regions are on the page, or at least that perhaps the last one is truncated.
here is a link to the crash report when i try to import this OMF:
    http://acoustic.0catch.com/index.html
i don't have an old version of logic installed, but i do have version 6 sitting in a box so i could try that. I don't have access to os9 either, nor do i have protools so i can't test that out.
The OMF was created by a client of mine from the latest version of Final Cut Pro, zipped and sent via skype. It unzipped without a problem, so i assume it hasn't become corrupted in any way. I have all the Pro Application Support updates installed and i should think my client does but i'm not 100% sure.
i suspect its a DV PAL sequence which would make it 25fps, 48KHz audio. should only be a few minutes long i did my own test with FCP and it looks like OMFI 2.0 is the only option. I doubt he unchecked the crossfade option. i was able to import a simple OMF file i made successfully, but there were only about 10 audio regions.

  • Mediasource Organizer import crash at 1000 tra

I'm using the very latest version of Mediasource Organizer (5.00.20), and have found that it crashes consistently before I reach 000 tracks in the PC Music Library with:?"Faulting application ctimprtu.exe, version 5.0.5.0, faulting module msvcrt.dll, version 7.0.2600.280, fault address 0x000a6d." It doesn't matter what the track is - importing any new track into the library reproduces the problem. I have 999 tracks in the library at the moment ?Has anyone else seen this? Is there a fix (apparently not, if I have the latest version from the Creative site...)??

Do a web search for the error you are getting and you will see that a lot of other apps have problems with this exact same version of msvcrt.dll. Apologies for appearing to talk down to you in my reply but not many people in here have as much software knowledge as you so we have to give a reply that will be OK for all levels. PB

  • WIndows beta won't install / deinstall / repair after bookmark import crash

    All,
after installing the first beta on my (international) Windows XP system, Safari crashed when importing Bookmarks.
    It would not start thereafter.
I tried to de-install, which failed for some unnamed reason.
I now am unable to install beta 3.0.2, which aborts the installation process and instructs me to try later again.
Nothing, including none of the "repair" switches of msiexec, either removes the remains of the old Safari, nor allows me to install the new Safari.
Any help how I could force installation of the laters Beta, regardless of pre-requisites or checks?

    Hi Thomas,
Ths installer cleanup tool is not the best as depending on your user rights on the system and a few other factors it will only show a subset of the programs installed (as you've found).
In order to perform a full cleanup (detailed repair) of Safari you can try this from a command prompt:
    msiexec /fausmv {3F9EFA28-D2FE-44B7-8896-0B0FF8DF5517}
    or to remove completely use:
    msiexec /x {3F9EFA28-D2FE-44B7-8896-0B0FF8DF5517}
The top command tells Windows to Fix All files rewriting User files, Shortcuts, Machine files and rebuilding the Windows Installer Cache (the v option).
More detail can be found at Microsoft's website if you're interested: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314881
Feel free to post any error messages you may receive. It might also be a good idea to update to the latest version of Windows Installer (3.1 v2) from: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=84088
Having said all that, I cannot get Safari to even start once under Windows Vista ... It installs without event but when double clicked the disk does some whirring then the standard "Your application has crashed" dialog appears. Seems Apple are a long way off perfecting Safari on Vista.
