Online Ticket Purchasing System
The system i have written allows me to sell tickets online. If the maximum tickets for sale is 50, how do make sure that no more than 50 people are not allowed to purchase.
For example: If i have 1 ticket left for sale and there are 10 buyers how are the other 9 stopped from buying?
Should i set a database flag of some sort?
Your help is most appreciated.
Are you keeping a record of each sold ticket? If so, do a "select count(*) from purchasedTickets". If it's equal to the number of tickets you have, you're sold out (have a beer and celebrate!).

I used to hang out here quite often a while back (normally in the Java Programming section) and would pay quite a lot of attention to threads, maps and data structures.
I want to put together a simple online hotel booking system as my own pet project to get a bit of expereince in JSP and web technologies -
I ve picked up an Oreily book on this toic but does anyone know where I can find an example online hotel booking system which I can use to learn from? I m pretty sure these types of apps have been written in the past but there was not much on Sourceforge
Any ideas?The server doesn't know what a booking is - how could it do anything for you? Your problem is also not about code synchronization - it is perfectly valid for two people to process a booking at the same time, it is only not valid to process the exact same booking at the same time.
Me - I'd pretend that there is no such thing as two people booking the same slot at the same time - until the very last moment where you actually commit the booking to a particular person. One of them is going to be first and that's the winner, in the other's case before saving you'd check the database if it is already taken and then inform the user that he/she's out of luck. The stupid and easy solution that is also quite safe. -
Virus Call "Online help - Perform System Maintenan...
I received a skype call from "Online help - Perform System Maintenance" and when I answered the phone, it was a computerized voice that started discussing that my computer, which happens to be a mac, is not running "very well." Is there a way to drop a virus through a Skype call? I quit and restarted Skype. How do I block this number/caller? I have Sophos anti virus on the my mac, but maybe this is a skype only virus...or something designed for windows. Very odd. Can anyone assist?

To avoid receiving any Calls like this, you can adjust your privacy to, Change Allow Calls from... "anyone" to "people on my Contact list only".

Designing Online Transaction Processing System
What factors do one need to watch for while designing online transaction processing system (around 450 transactions per second).
ThanksDepending on the complexity of what you're calling a transaction and the interdependency of the information, sustaining 450 transactions per second may be a non-trivial exercise. If most of your transactions involve inserting or updating information you're application is likely to be IO bound.
You may want to prototype something that benchmarks raw throughput to your database and disk of choice. Meaning writing records that will approximate the size of what you'll be writing in your transactions. You'll need to find the right combination of number of Threads and transaction size that provides optimal throughput for your environment. Don't underestimate the importance of database tuning. If your prototype can't achieve the throughput you're looking for then you're final application will have no hope.
Recently I worked on an application with similar performance requirements. We prototyped and benchmarked raw throughput as I described above and were able to insert over 2000 200 byte records per second to our database. Our finished application sustains about 75% of that performance. This is on SMP hardware with high-end disk. Good luck.

This is not possible in SAP standard. Air ticket booking can only be made if you have a External GDS define in your system. Otherwise it is only possible to have documentary flight query using Travel Request but you can do a online flight query.

I do not know of a pre-made system like this, however it
would take little programming to set this up. Build it into a web
app for easy company distribution. Then create a form that inputs

have to keep a meta refresh page querying from a ticket database to
show new tickets in realtime.
We do this at my agency and CFMAIL has been very useful. We

to better manage the immediate problems from the ones that can
wait. We still take urgent support by phone because sometimes,

Online Booking Schedule System
Hi guys,
I've been trying to figure out if there's a way in creating an online booking system for appointments. What I want is to set certain time slots of the week, for customers to book in a time for meeting. For Example, Monday 9am-10am , 11am - 12pm, 3pm - 4pm...etc and when a customer books the time 9am - 10am, then that time slot will not longer be available to book.
