Opening CS2 files in CS4

Does opening a CS2 file in CS4 automatically convert it to CS4? My company will be temporarily running both versions, and we need to know if we'll need to use the .inx export to down-save a file that was opened/modified/saved with CS4.
Thanks.

Yes, and INX only goes back one version. There's a hack you can try but
I don't recommend it. If the files need to be worked on in CS2 then
leave them as CS2 files.

  • Trouble opening CS2 file in CS4 - any suggestions?

    Hello,
We recently upgraded to CS4 and have been able to open most documents. I have one file that freezes while converting data and upon trying multiple times, it says InDesign has stopped working. We have sent the file to our printer to troubleshoot and they are unable to open it as well. Any suggestions? It's a text heavy 20 page-ish enrollment packet. The only link is the cover file. We need to access it asap. Client wants it printed this week. THANK YOU in advance for your help!

I'm afraid I tried everything I can think of to get your file to open without success. I suspect a corrupt link, probably an eps graphic that appears to be tha last thing being parsed. I've sent more detail via email.

  • Does CS4, CS5, or CS6 have the abliity to open CS2 files?

I currently am running Adobe CS2 on my Windows XP computer. I will soon have to upgrade to Windows 8, and I know CS2 will not run on Windows 8, but I also know that my files will not open in CS3 ('ve tried opening an Illustrator CS2 file in CS3, and it wouldn't open). Does CS4, CS5, or CS6 have the abliity to open CS2 files?

CS3 will definately open a cs2 file. Something is not right if it won't.  I have been using illsutrator since CS2 and have not had an issue yet.

  • Opening 3 files in CS4

Wondering is I'm missing an update for CS4.  When I try opening an older file ((3), it provides the message toconvert to a newly installed version of captivate. Press OK to save as a new file.  When I press OK, it actsas if it is saving the new format but doesn't. I have tried "saving as" with a name and location, but still does nothing.  Is this a bug?  Any suggestions?

  • Opening CS3 file in CS4 - fonts wrong!

I have an FLA created in CS3 (Mac). It includes a couple of
fonts that were made into symbols. I'm both using those symbols to
set the font for dynamic text boxes on stage in various symbols (by
selecting the font-name-with-asterisk from the font menu), and in
    Actionscript to create text.
When I open the file in CS4, wherever I have used the menu
option (selecting the font with asterisk in its name), when I
select the box the font menu is showing a DIFFERENT font. And when
I publish none of that text shows up!
The font names with asterisks are still in the font list, but
now they're in a separate section separated by a line from the
    regular font list.
I'm not sure what to do - am I stuck using CS3 for the life
of this file? I'm not even sure how many text fields are in this
document, scattered among a number of symbols. If it was just a few
I could probably just manually re-select the font for each. I mean,
I assume I could do that...?
Is there a global find/replace option to fix this? Is this a
    known bug?

I'm sorry to say this, but you're stuck with CS3. This also
happened to me and I couldn't solve it by now.

  • Can Indesign CS4 open CS2 files?

Simple question, can Indesign CS4 opeen old CS2 files? Someone told me it can't. If that's true it's a disaster.

[Jongware] - I know that, I'm not asking about CS2 opening CS4 but vice versa.
    BobLevine - that's what I'm asking. I hope you're right, thanks!
It's incredibly important to me because time has come to upgrade my computer, and I have CS2 on it, but I've heard Windows 7 doesn't want to run CS2 at all, so if I upgrade to Win7 I'll have to upgrade the CS as well. And then someone told me ID4 can't open ID2 files anymore. That would render all my older work unusable.

  • Opening Indesign CS2 files In CS4

    Hi everyone,
I have just started using Indesign CS4 for work but found that it is mostly a waste of time as most clients send me documents made with older versions of Indesign which i just cant open with CS4. Is there anyway around this using the standard software or are then any plugin's that will do the job for me?
    Thanks in advance,
    Loki

Hmm...very odd. I simply get the old "this
file is not compatible" error come up when ever i try to open CS2. CS3 seems ok but not tried anythng older yet. I thought it seemed a little weird not opening, I guess that who ever was doing the job before me just screwed it up some how. :/   guess i have a few hours of system cleaning tomorrow ahead of me, if anyone can think of anything they could have done to stop it working i would be greatful for the advice if nto ill just try a re-install.
No worrys about the clients not being able to reopen the file Ill be sending it strait to the presses once finished.

  • Can't open RAW files in CS4

I  recently bought the 5d mk2 and I cannot open RAW files. Had no problem with my 20D but 5D does not work. Tried to put new plug in into the plugin folder but it says that it is not recognised by windows or there is an error in it. Anyone help?

The only other thing I can think of is that when you installed 5.7 you put the older version in a location where it should not have been.  If you are keeping an older copy it cannot be anywhere in the Adobe folder structure.  It's best to just get rid of it completely.  You can always download another copy if necessary.  I know, this is a dumb question, but are you certain you are using Photoshop CS4?

  • Can't open ACR files in CS4 - HELP!

I have a Canon EOS 1000D and am using Photoshop CS4.
Every time I try opening it through PS I have a pop-up saying "could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file". And the option to "open in camera raw" in bridge is gray, so i can't select it.
I've updated my Camera Raw Plug-In to version 5.7. (which is supposed to be compatible) and I still have trouble opening my files - both through PS and Bridge.
I'm in desperate need of help!

As Camera Raw is a plug-in, I'm wondering if somehow you haven't replaced the plug-in in the proper directory...
From Photoshop's menu, choose Help - About Plug-in.  Do you have just one Camera Raw entry showing?  If so, click it.  What version do you see?

  • How do you open NEF files in CS4????

I have a brand new Nikon 5000D (basically a 90D) and am cannot open the NEF files in CS4. I have the current camera raw updates, Adobe photoshop is the default for opening and I have tried everything others have suggested on this discussion board to try and make it work. I even uninstalled all the NIKON software....... CAN anyone Give me the exact  step by step instructions on what I need to do before I return the camera and give up completely on NIKON???? PLEEEAAASE HEEELLLPPP!!!

New camera models require a new version of ACR to support them.
The Nikon D5000 will be supported in ACR 5.4, and the beta is available from Adobe Labs:

  • Cannot open raw files on CS4 extended even with plug in

Cannot open raw files from canon eos 400d in photoshop Cs4 extended. I have updated camera raw plug in and DNG converter but still no luck! I cannot get the images off the camera onto a file. Help, images of my 5 month old daughter are on the camera from when she was born!

    >I cannot get the images off the camera onto a file.
I presume you're on PC (since you don't bother to give that rather critical bit of info). On Windows you'll have to set your camera to be a mass storage device in order to even see the raw files. Best bet is use a card reader as you really shouldn't be trying to transfer image files directly from the camera. It's really slow and as you've found out, it's not "easy" like a card reader.

  • Cannot deinstall ps cs4 and bridge cs5 open all files in CS4 instead of Cs5

I temporarily could not make the Eastman Kodak ROC Professional plug-in work in my PS CS5 so I tried other programs to use this plug-in in. I therefore installed an old PS Elements 5 and PS CS4 (my present PS CS5 is bougth as an update from CS4) . However now the plug-in works fine in my PS CS5 and I of course prefer to work in this. I have, however,  acquired a new problem: The only way I can open picture files in PS CS5 is via the files menu in Photoshop itself. If I try to open via Bridge (and it is Bridge CS5) I can only open the files in PS CS4.  I cannot deinstall PS CS4. Bridge CS5 states that "open in PS CS4 is the default action".
Sorry if this is a foolish question.
    Git Amager1

Sorry not to have reacted to the above for so long. Even after doing as you proposed things did not work. In the end I (after the Christmas Holidays) I did reinstall the pc - changed from Vista to windows 7. I do not know what caused the problem initially but at least I think I can conclude that one should not install the cs4 software after having installed cs5. Thank you for your support.

  • Opening HDR files in CS4 Standard

I am trying to write a document that gives simple, standard instructions to users on what to do when opening HDR files in Photoshop CS4 Standard (Windows XP SP3). The files are generated by 3D Studio Max V-Ray in the EXR format. The problem is that gamma levels are frequently off for users, so the instructions are meant to simplify things for them. Through some testing, I discovered something I don't understand:
With RGB color management policy set to 'Preserve Embedded Profiles' (and it doesn't matter what the actual RGB profile is and/or whether or not any of the 'Ask When...' boxes are selected), the EXR opens as expected and no gamma correction is needed
With RGB color management policy set to 'Convert to Working RGB' (and it doesn't matter what the actual RGB profile is), selecting the 'Ask When...' boxes causes the EXR to open as expected also...but if one does NOT select the 'Ask When...' boxes and allows Photoshop to automatically convert, the image is very dark and requires a gamma correction layer.
I ran all possible scenarios of 'Preserve Embedded Profiles' and 'Convert to Working RGB' with 'Ask When...' boxes selected and deselected in Photoshop CS3 Extended and all images opened as expected with no need for gamma correction.
Can anybody shed light on this oddity? Is there a limitation in Photoshop Standard when it comes to HDR image processing? Or is this a change from either Standard or Extended version from CS3 to CS4?

Hmm, that is odd, and I don't recall hearing about problems like that from other users.
Photoshop always treats 32 bit/channel data as gamma 1.0, and always corrects for the display.
If you send me one of the files in question, I can take a look.
Photoshop CS45 Standard is only limited in 32 bit/channel in that it can't create layers or use many of the brush tools.
But Photoshop CS5 no longer has that limitation.

  • Opening CS2 files in InDesign CS3 - crashing

    Hi,
I'm just wondering if anyone knows why InDesign CS2 files might crash InDesign CS3 when you try to open them (on Mac OS10.4.11)? The files still crash CS3 even when all the elements have been deleted from the file - all the text, pics, swatches, para and char styles, layers. If the file is saved as and then try to open it in CS3 it still crashes InDesign.
Very much hoping someone might be able to shed some light....
    Thanks very much,
    Susannah

    Might InDesign CS2 have been using a third-party plug-in?

  • Need to open CS6 file in CS4

I have a very simple one page file with text that was made with CS6, when I try to open it in CS4 I get a prompt telling me to either upgrade my plugins (what?) or upgrade my version. Well, since the latter is out of the question I want to upgrade the plugins that the error message is referring to. But what is that? Where do I do it? I was kinda surprised cause its a simple straight forward one page doc with text on it, that's it! How many plugins can be used to create that? My feel is that it's just another way of forcing people to buy new Adobe software.
Ps: Had a browse on simmilar topics here on this forum and some suggest to save the file again in a different format, but that's kinda impossible when I can't open it. How does one "re-save" an indd file?

Was not able to edit my post so I'm adding it here. I found this on the Adobe site:
"Make sure that the version of InDesign used to open the IDML or INX file has all available updates installed. Otherwise, InDesign returns an error about missing plug-ins when you try to open the file." But I didn't find any way to work with updates, what kind if "available updates" are they referring to? I went to Help--> Updates in InDesign and I received "There are no updates at this time." That's a little weird tough cause I've never searched for any updates since I bought CS4 when it was released.
