Opening QuickTime references using Windows SDK

I'm trying to use Quicktime SDK on the PC to open up a QuickTime reference file so that I can get the reference paths for all of the media contained within the tracks. The reason for this is that we sometimes need to get Windows to authenticate the paths that the reference file points to prior to opening the QuickTime file otherwise it will ask the use to browse for media. Out app is automated without a UI so this is undesirable.
I have been writing a Utility to parse the QuickTime reference file and return the path of the Referenced media in each of the tracks. The problem I am having is that when I open the movie, if the referenced media is unreachable I am prompted by Quicktime to search for the media. I thought that I would be able to resolve this by setting the flag newMovieDontResolveDataRefs. Unfortunately while opening a a movie in this mode doesn't prompt me to search for the media, it also seems to reset the paths of the media files referenced by the tracks to the directory containing my application. This is no help at all. What I need is the original path to the reference file(s), regardless of whether or not the computer is able to reach them. Is this possible, and if not, what is the logic behind this behaviour, it doesn't seem to make any sense - why would I want to break my reference paths?

I'm afraid we don't get a lot of QuickTime developers dropping by here, Damien. It might be worth checking in at the QuickTime-API or the QuickTime-users mailing list instead:

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • Just reinstalled newest iTunes and still the program fails to open.  Am using Windows 7 starter.  It seems that the failure to open iTunes happened just after I updated to the latest flash player.  Don't know if that has anything to do with it.

iTunes will not open.  I am using Windows 7, and have had no trouble with iTunes until yesterday.  The only think I did yesterday was install an upgrade to the latest Flash player.  From then on, even after deleting and reinstalling iTunes, it still does NOTHING after the screen authorizing iTunes to make changes to the hard drive.  I have tried going to the applications and ending process.  I've also tried going to Control panel - and tried to repair the program.
If I don't get some help here... iTunes is toast to me.
    Thanks,
    GaryFromSeffner

  • Error opening PDF file, using Windows Vista

When I first purchased my new pc, regrettably, I was given Windows Vista. There have been a lot of problems. Of late, Adobe Reader gives me an error message when I try to open a downloaded file. I uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Reader but with no success. Could this be a Vista security issue? I can download and read the file on my work computer which used Windows XP. Also, this problem getting an error message opening and reading a file just recently occurred. I haven't made any changes to my system except automatic program updates. Can you help me?

I stumbled on a solution: Download the PDF file and instead of saying yes to open the file (because you know you'll get the error message), simply go to where you saved the file (i.e. AOL downloads) and open it there. I have no idea why I suddenly cannot open PDF files but at least I found a way to still get my information. Hope this helps.

  • I have no audio when trying to access videos using quicktime.  Using windows xp

I have no audio when using qucktime to view videos on a PC using windows xp.  I have uninstalled the software and re-installed it to no avail.  Using default settings. Specifically trying to use Vic Firth.com

d scriv, I took a brief look at the website you posted. It appears to be using Adobe Flash Player
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
Unless I'm missing something here. I don't think QuickTime is going to be of much help with that website. Even if you saved a file from the website to the hard drive, it would not be easy to get QT to play it

  • Itunes store does not open - no error using windows vista

does anyone have any solutions that will allow me to access itunes store.
    no error comes up.
using vista and have downloaded current itunes 10.4
    thanks

    thanks. spyware scan was clean.
how do i make sure itunes is allowed through antivirus? also, regarding the files to be deleted, where are they located on PC?
The first thing I'd suggest is to get a good
antispyware checker and give it a go at your system.
Some recent spyware has been reported by other users
to shut down iTunes or prevent it from launching.
From user reports, Ewido seems to be the best at
catching it. You can download a free version of Ewido
    here.
If that doesn't cure the problem, make sure that any
antivirus/antispyware application you have is set to
allow iTunes to operate. Some antivirus/antispyware
has been known to shut down iTunes. An upgrade to
iTunes or to the utility may have triggered the
    problem.
If that still doesn't help, take a look at iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting unexpected
    quits, freezes, or launch failures
If that still doesn't work, try deleting the iTunes
    preference files:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
    Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
    and
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local
    Data\Application Data\Apple
    Computer\iTunes\iTunes.pref
You might have to turn on "show hidden files" to find
them. (Right click "my computer", select open, select
Tools menu -> Folder Options. Select View tab, "show
hidden files" radio button is in the center scrolling
panel.) Delete them or if you want to be able to put
them back if it doesn't help, drag them to some other
location. This will force iTunes to run the setup
assistant the next time you launch iTunes. Note that
you'll have to go back and set any preferences you've
    changed from the default.
If that still doesn't work, try this:

  • Unable to open Quicktime on a Windows PC

I've just helped a friend out by capturing in some PAL mini-DV tapes and exporting as Quicktime DV PAL from Final Cut Pro and burning to DVD-R as data files using Toast.
My friend has installed the latest version of Quicktime and is getting the "does not understand the files" message. The files also won't import into Sony Vegas, and when he tries copying them onto an external hard drive it says there isn't enough space, even though there is over 400GB spare.
He has also tried importing the files onto his PC laptop and again, Quicktime "does not understand the files".
So just about everything that could go wrong has... any suggestions? I've never used a PC so I have no idea what to suggest.

The file will automatically be compatible.
Not completely true. Yes, Macs and PCs can share PowerPoint fprmats but, in recent years, you have to be aware of what Office version the other people are using. You need to save in a format level that works for your current version AND below.
    Here are the "equivalent" versions:
Office 2003 Windows and Office Mac 2004
Office 2007 Windows and Office Mac 2008
Office 2010 Windows and Office Mac 2011
If you absolutely know that everyone who receives your Office flles has a equivalent version of Office as yours, send as it. However, I often work with groups having mixed Macs and PCs and a lot of variants of Office. There, the safe path it to selct the "Save as... option of the lowest version, usualy "<Office apps> 97-2004 (.ppt)" That works for both Macs and PCs. The Option looks like this in Office 2008, the lastest version I have:
It's the same for any Office app--remember that sending the latest version may leave some people with older versions out of the loop.
There is a workabout for the receiver but I'm finding that a lot of newer computer users can't deal with a file unless they double-click something. The workabout is to open the Office app (PowerPoint in your case) and then use PPs "Open..." command to open the file from the app. That usually gets the file open, but too many late adopters of technology (we all know those types) seem totally befuddled by anything more that it takes to play Angry Birds on a phone.

  • Open a file using windows dialogue box

I'd like a user to click on a link and they get the windows
dialogue box that asks if they want to save the document or open
it. How can I accomplish this?

by using correct combinations of <cfheader> and
    <cfcontent> tags with
appropriate attributes you may be able to force either
downloading/saving of files or opening them in the browser.
    but many
browsers will enforce their own setting for a particular file
    type.
short of creating 2 pages (say, view.cfm and save.cfm) and
    putting 2
links to them next to the file name, you can't give users
    much of a
choice, and even then it is not guaranteed to work for all
    file
    types/browsers.

  • *Problems uninstalling itunes/quicktime after using windows install cleanup

I was having problems installing itunes/quicktime 7.6. Everytime I tried to install it it would say that it does not have a valid digital signiture. So one of the suggestions I saw on this forum was to install windows install cleanup and use it on itunes and quicktime. So I did but all it did is mess up my old itunes/quicktime. Now when I go to try and uninstall itunes and quicktime from the add and remove programs in the control pannel it does not even show itunes or quicktime in my program list. Any suggestions??

Ok, Update. I was able to remove itunes and quicktime manually after going into my windows task manager and to the processes tab and ended all processes involving itunes, apple, or quicktime. So now when I install itunes/quicktimes via apples site when it gets to the end it just disapears and nothing happens. I searched to see if it installed anything and it didn't, didn't even give me any reasons why. Can anyone help me with this?? It would help me a ton!

  • Opening multiple URLs using window.open in Safari 3

Anyone know how to write javascript to open multiple URLs at once using Safari 3? Code like this worked fine in Safari 2, but when I upgraded to 10.4.11, Safari 3 now only opens the first URL when the javascript is run.
    window.open(url1);
    window.open(url2);
    window.open(url3);
    Thanks!
BTW, I'm also using Saft (and had been using it before when this worked).

If the Saft preference of "Always open browser window in tab" is unchecked, then Safari 3 will open each of the URLs in new Windows.
I've written to the author of Saft about the issue and will follow-up here with more details when available.

  • Looking to buy a new iMac to do Open Uni course using Windows

    Hello,
I've been using Mac since summer of 2007 when we got a MacBook Pro. In October I'm starting an Open University course and will require to buy a new computer that runs Windows in order to do this course.
As I've now become familiar with Mac I am somewhat loathe to buy another PC and have learned that it is now possible to run Windows on a Mac using Bootcamp.
Last week I visited my local Apple Reseller (we don't have Apple Stores in Switzerland yet) to get some advice about this. I told the lady behind the desk I wanted to buy a 24" 3.06GHz iMac but she wasn't much help and found her computer screen more interesting than trying to sell me a 2600chf computer. She wasn't able to tell me where I could get Windows from to run on a Mac, nor how much it would cost. Infact she couldn't tell me very much as unfortunately I'm not 100% familiar with the Apple product range, I never knew the exact specifications of the machine I want to buy. It was pretty much a wasted trip and her efforts to get me to hand over my green were seriously limited.
Hopefully someone on here can give me a bit of advice about running Windows on a Mac, or at least point me to a place where it's already been discussed.
The main things I want to know are: How much is Windows for a Mac? Is it as easy to use as all the Mac applications I have become familiar with? Can I buy an iMac with Windows pre-installed, including adequate virus protection and internet security?
    Cheers

There is no such thing as Windows for a Mac. You simply purchase any Windows installer package from any software vendor that sells it. See Boot Camp 2.0- Which versions of Microsoft Windows are supported? to find out which Windows versions are installable under Boot Camp if that's the method you decide to use to run Windows. See below for other options.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak 2 or Vista. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not yet fully developed for the Mac - some features are not yet implemented - but it does work otherwise.
    6. Last is Q. Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs. It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system.
See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion.
Boot Camp is only available with Leopard. The Boot Camp Beta that was used with Tiger has expired and is no longer available for use. So contrary to the other poster's comment, Boot Camp isn't truly "free." You must purchase Leopard to get it.
You can visit the Apple Online Store website to learn about the various Apple models, find downloadable manuals, machine specifications, tutorials, etc.
Retailers generally do not sell Macs with Windows installed. There you are on your own.

  • Folder reference using BO SDK

Please help me with a sample snippet with which I can get access to a personal folder other than favourites folder using ReBean or any other Java SDKs
    Many thanks in advance
    Regards
    Michael

REbean SDK is for viewing, exporting, setting prompts and doing different sorts of things with webi ( and to some extent Full client) reports, it does not have any BOE administrative APIs. For accessing folders, objects etc. You need to use Enterprise or Platfrm SDK. The query I gave in earlier post will retrieve all users favorite folders.
What do you mean by access "any other folders other than user's favorites?"
If you mean if a user can access other public folders apart from his own favorites folder, then the answer is yes. You need to give appropriate access rights to the user to view the folders you want him to view.  But for all of this you can do it via CMC ( setting rights) or use Enterprise\Framework SDK and not Rebean SDK.

Make sure the pdf has the '.pdf' extension on the file name. I've seen this a few times and adding the extension usually solves the problem.

  • Open VI reference, problem on RT target

I'm having problems opening references to VI's on my RT target (cRIO 9074 with NI-RIO 3.1.0, VI server enabled). I'm using Labview 8.6.1
What I'm doing is opening the reference using an absolute path ("c:\ni-rt\temp\test12.vi") to the VI I want to run (path is the only input that is wired). "Open VI reference" throws error 1124 (VI not loadable).
The VI that should be loaded only contains a while loop toggling a boolean indicator, no subVI's.
If I remove the VI from the specified path I get error 7 (File not
found) when I run the code, so the path doesn't seem to be wrong.
I've tried running the"open vi reference" function on my host computer and on the target (both as an .exe and directly deployed) but the result is the same.
No error is thrown if I build an .exe and include test12.vi in the build, but I assume that in that case the VI has already been loaded when "open vi reference" is called. This is not a solution for me.
If I move both VI's to my host computer everything works.
Does anyone have any ideas about what could be wrong? I've searched to forum but found no solution.

    Hi Sterlind,
Have you tried building a source distribution, the VI might depend on some VI:s from VI.lib or such.
This KB seems to suite your error description,
