Optimal charging for Yoga 10 HD+

I've read a lot of conflicting info about charging modern Li batteries, and I wonder if the Yoga's long-lasting system further complicates the issue:
1) Is it better to slow charge the battery via a USB connection to my laptop, or fast charge with the ac adapter?
2) I've read that for modern laptops, you can leave them plugged in most of the time because the battery stops charging when it's full and the device simply runs off the AC, saving many of its finite 500-1000ish cycles.  Is this the case with a tablet that charges via USB?  Can I just leave it plugged in when at home?
3) What about the idea that Li batteries like to be recharged at 40% and unplugged at 80%?  How would this jell with leaving it plugged in all the time (see above) when that would put the battery at a near constant 100%?

1) Doesn't really matter. While charging too slow or too fast does decrease battery life I don't think charging the HD+ slow or fast make any difference in real life as both circumstances is not at extreme ends. In fact the "fast" wall charger with delivering ~1.8 Amp (meassured with a gadget I got) to charge a 9 Ah battery is gentle. Not to fast not too slow. Charging via computer is probably a tad on the slow side for a 9 Ah battery but not extreme. LiIon is different than say NiMH and better copes with very slow charge rates so nothing to worry about.
2) It's true that it stops charging. Best it is if the laptop has a battery preserve mode. Having it full all time isn't the best way to have it lasting as long as possible. However having it full is way better than having it empty. Most common cause of lost performance for LiIon is because of either bad quality or people accidentally leaving them for a week or two in a very low state. My laptop which is always plugged in still has lot of useable battery life left despite it's 2-3 years old.
3) Yes only going to 100% onde in a while and only to 0 once in a while and mostly staying between 20-80 (just don't leave it long under 35%) is just about the most optimal. Most optimal it is if the device has a battery preserve mode - like f.ex. the Miix 2 11 I also own then having it plugged in but not charging to 100% is possible for the best battery life and performance when using it home semi stationary.

  • Can I use 65W Yoga charger for my X1 Carbon?

    Hiya,
I've bought this charger on eBay :
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/ThinkPad-ADLX65NCC3A-36200253-45N0261-45N0262/dp/B00LUIFVIM
The label on the charger says:
    MODEL 45N0261
    FRU P/N 45N0262
    Lenovo P/N 36200253
It was advertised as X1 charger, but when it arrived I thought it's too small in size, so I googled it. Having done that, I've realised it's actually being sold by Lenovo as a charger for Yoga.
Am I safe to use this charger for my ThinkPad X1 Carbon (3460-CLG)?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Battery charges for 20 seconds , then stops. Lenovo yoga 3

My battery started having sudden drains when in sleep mode. As soon as i woke it up it showed 0% left and shut down. I installed all the updates. The problem seemed solved for one day. Then it drained again but this time did not shut down. It kept going and when plugged in shows 'plugged, not charging' so i started the calibration. That was yesterday. This morning it is still running. I so do not want to send it back, but if there is no way to fix this I may have to

I broke off the calibration since it seemed to be doing nothing at all, then let the computer fully drain. On stertup everything seemed fine for a bit till it then again failed to recognise the battry being charged. I gave up,and plugged in laid it aside. After a few hours opened it up again and presto, battery regognised, fully charged and now after a night in sleep mode 98% left and still functioning...

I read here http://www.vsa.cape.com/~danh/ipod.htm that this could happen, that the battery indicator could start showing full after 20 minutes... should i start panicking or not?

  • IPod charger for iPhone

Can I use my iPod charger for iPhone? I think it's second generation iPod mini. The voltages are different.

Well, I took the iPhone workshops at the Apple Store on Saturday and Apple's "official" word is, if it doesn't say "Works with iPhone", don't use it, because it's "not optimal". Of course this all only applies to the actual power converter, not any iPod dock to USB CABLE. But I've been using an iHome clock radio and I just bought an Extreme Mac Luna clock radio, and they both seem to work well. Since they are not DESIGNED for iPhone, they both give me the airplane mode message and make strange noises periodically if I don't tuen airplane mode on.

  • Charging for software on a BRAND NEW iPod Touch?

Glad to hear people are now getting the 2.2 download to work. Has anyone gotten anywhere asking Apple for justification for a $10 software upgrade on a brand new iTouch purchased within 30 days and given as a Christmas gift? (I gave 2!) This is even crazier than "Microsoft think".
There was another post comparing this to an upgrade from Windows XP to Vista - NOT SO. You would know a PC's OS in advance and you could weigh the cost of the PC PLUS an OS upgrade against whatever features you might miss by not having the latest OS. If you bought a PC back during the pre-Vista release you either received a coupon for an OS upgrade when Vista came out or you knew that the PC came with XP and you were OK with it. There was no disclosure of any kind when I was researching or purchasing the Touch.
So, I ask again, does anyone have any words from Apple justifying this charge for their brand new iPod Touch? We're not talking about units purchased months ago, just BRAND NEW devices that are effectively 4 days old for the gift recipients.

Your iPods may be 'new' as opposed to 'used', but they were clearly not the latest models.
Any iPod that do not have the 2.2 software installed have to pay for it. This is because that the time they were manufactured by Apple and released the 2.2 software was not available. Apple sold those devices to the retailer before the 2.2 software was released and therefore you bought an 'old' model that is NOT entitled to the 2.2 software. It is not about when the device was sold it is about when it was manufactured. Apple do not know when the devices you have were sold to you anyway.
Apple does know the serial numbers of your devices and it does check to see if they are entitled to the update and clearly they are not as they were manufactured before the new software was released.
These are user support forums and are not manned by Apple. If you want Apple support then use the 90 day telephone support that came with your Apple product or the 12 month warranty which can be used in any Apple retail store.
You have not been 'flamed' in these forums we are just giving you the truth.
Just because you have a strange view or reality does not mean it is correct.

  • Double-charged for Creative Cloud Membership - I need a refund!

My student subscription was automatically cancelled and switched to a regular subscription. Adobe never told me, but I saw on my bank statement that I had been charged $24.99 instead of $14.99.
When I first contacted Adobe and asked for a refund, the customer support rep told me to simply cancel my old subscription and create a new student subscription with my student account. I did this, and then I was charged a FURTHER $14.99 under this new subscription, for the 'new month' that I had already been charged for (that was the original $24.99 payment).
I have now tried twice to contact Adobe's support service, and both times I have heard excuses such as 'There is a technical fault with our systems - when I try to refund you $24.99, it only lets me refund you $14.99' or 'I will escalate this to a higher team member'. I have yet to hear back from Adobe and it has now almost been a month since the double charge, and I am worried I am going to be charged AGAIN (or worse, twice again) in the next month if I don't get this resolved.
Please assist, and in future, please tell your customers before you start charging random balances to their credit cards.

    Hi aagirlz
An email is sent 30 days prior to the annual renewal date with details of the renewal price.  Sometimes this might go to your spam/junk folders so it's worth checking there.
When you signed up for Creative Cloud at the promotional price, the offer terms would have explained that the promotional price is valid for 12 months and then you renew at the standard price for that plan.
The current student/teacher offer terms can be viewed here: Creative Cloud free trial & plans : Adobe Creative Cloud

  • Am I being charged for international texting?

So I am doing a masters program in Ireland, so I'm international. Everyone that I talk to back home has an iphone just like I do, and I have a question that I cannot find an answer to.
Since I'm in Ireland, I don't want to have a huge phone bill every month, so I have all forms of roaming off (voice, data, and international CDMA). I also have Cellular data off, as well as MMS and SMS messages.
I've checked under the current data usage period, and current period roaming, and the data usage is 0 . When my friend back home texts me, he says that they are sending to me as regular texts. He receives mine as regular texts as well unless I'm in a wifi area, then we are both send and receive them as Imessages.
My questions is that even with all roaming turned off, cellular, ect, I'm still able to send and receive text messages while I'm NOT in a wifi area. This only works for my friends and family that have Iphones, so I'm assuming that it means I'm okay to text them while I'm not connected to wifi?
one thing to mention, that since I'm in Ireland, my service provider at the top left of the screen no longer says AT&T. It says "Vodaphone IE" and sometimes changes to other names like Meteor, O2, and a couple others. My plan is still through AT&T, so i'm not sure why it changes over to those. Maybe that's why I'm able to send texts?
I just don't want to rack up a huge phone bill, not knowing I was accumulating international charges. Because if everything is turned off except for Imessage, and the data under cellular in settings isn't going up, then theoretically I'm not using data right? or that it should be free? I've been here about a month, and my mom pays the bill. She hasn't called to say that the phone bill was extremely large, but I don't wan't to text if there's some kind of risk. That being said, I would really appreciate some help with the above scenario that I just described, because this has me clueless.

If the messages you receive are coming in as green, then they're coming in as text messages. If you can, check your voice, data and text usage on AT&T's website - that will tell you for sure if you're being charged for anything.

  • Why am I being charged for THEIR mistake?

I signed up online to have new internet service started along with phone service.  I was told it would be on May 6th.  A guy even came to my home and told me it would be turned on that night.  After 2 days with still no internet, I called and complained about it.  I was told it actually wouldn't be turned on until May 16th!  I was understandably upset about this and complained.  They told me they would send me a dongle at no charge for my inconvenience to hold me over until the service was turned on in my home.  I get my first bill and they have charged me £40 for the dongle that they offered to me!!! Why on earth are they charging me for it?  Based on my experience so far with BT, I already cannot wait to switch providers!!!!  Now to make matters worse, they are direct debiting £147 from my account for service from May to August, when I had requested monthly billing, NOT quarterly!  Does it ever get any better with these folks @ BT?

    Hi CanYouHearMeNow,
I'll be happy to give you a hand with this and get your account and broadband sorted out.
Could you drop me in an email please with your BT account and telephone number along with a link back to this thread.

  • Why am I  being charged for a phone I owned outright?

My fully paid for phone was stolen. I was advised that the Edge program was my best option for replacement & I  choose to go with that option. But why am I  charged $300.00 for my old phone in addition to the monthly charge for the new phone on the new program. Where did that amount even come from? as my 1st question said it was fully paid for. In reading the contract I don't see where you have to turn in the phone at the start, only if you "edge up" & I didn't do that.

You can't buy out a 2 year contract without losing your number.  Dumb, but true for other carriers also.
You can buy out an Edge installment agreement.
Your cheapest option was to purchase a replacement phone at full retail price.  Which for a Droid Turbo is $549
In 2 or 3 months when your old 2 year contract expires, call and ask for the out of contract discount. Depending on your data plan you will get $15 or $25 monthly line credit for being out of contract.  That will offset your Edge payment, netting either a payment of $7, or a credit of $3 (based on the Edge payment of $22)

  • Why am I being charged for data when connected to wifi AND not using my phone?!

WHY am I being charged for data that I'm not using? At times when I'm asleep AND my phone is connected to wifi?!  This happens at really specific, alternating times like 9:54 pm every day, or 12:01 am, 6:01 am and then 12:01pm and 6:01pm. When I called I was told  "maybe your wifi at home is disconnecting" or "maybe your phone is connecting to atnt or sprint". It's not possible that my phone is disconnecting from wifi every six hours on the dot and, at that exact time, I'm always using data. I find it hard to believe that I live in a HUGE city and my phone magically connects to other networks and I NEVER notice this. Verizon is full of LIARS (and maybe’s) and I'm not convinced that these data charges are a coincidence. I was told to turn off my cellular data to see if the problem resolves itself. Why should I alter my daily life when Verizon is clearly the one with the issue? I hope there's a class action lawsuit because Verizon is trying to get over on everyone! I need answers!

        Hello NotHappy101,
I think it's quite odd that your data usage is at very specific times. We can certainly take a closer look. Please reply to my Direct Message, so we can get some additional details.

  • Why am I being charged for downloads that didnt download???

Three different movies were charged to my account.....but not one of them finished downloading and I couldnt watch them in full....I would just start getting into the movie (which all three were documentaries about the government and their lies) and then boom!!!! Movie stops downloading and disappears!!!??? But the, one movie did work, it was the Extremely close blah blah blah movie but , funny thing is I NEVER CLICK IT TO BEGIN WITH!!!???? Ive even tried deleting it and it wont go away......and i was NEVER CHARGED FOR IT!????? now, someone please explain this to me??

You've wandered into a forum which has nothing to do with your problem, and in any case these forums are user-to-user - you're not talking to Apple, and no-one on here can help you.
You should contact iTunes Support. Go to https://expresslane.apple.com ; select 'iTunes' in the first column and then 'iTunes Store' in the second column. In the third column click 'Purchases, Billing & Redemption' and proceed from there.

  • What is the right charger for a MacBook Pro 13"  mid 2009 model?

What is the right charger for a MacBook Pro 13" mid 2009 model? I have two chargers for two different Mac and don't know which is  thankswhich. I'm really looking for specific details such as voltage/watts and all the rest to idenify my charger.  A link to where to web page where I could purchase the correct charger would also be very useful. Many thanks.
All help much appreciated. THANK YOU

Both power adapter I have are different (at the magnet end) from the one in link.
Earlier adapters have T shaped connectors, which Apple later changed to the L shape, presumably to make them more abuse-proof. Either one is fine and the one you are using will not damage your Mac.
Retina MBPs and new MBAs use a completely different MagSafe 2 connector which will not fit (without an adapter).

  • I cancelled my service, was charged for service which was not provided, and I am unable to find a way to dispute or to pay my bill.

To begin, what ADA-compliant options are available to work with a service representative? I've never found the online chat service support to be available during my waking hours after checking over the last week. I can't find a contact email for support, either. I've been instructed on several occasions that I will need to make a voice call for customer service, but unfortunately, this will not be possible. I will require text-format assistance from customer support to address two issues which I am unable to solve on my own:
    1) I was charged for service following the cancellation of my service; this includes a period following cancellation during which no service was provided. After working with a representative in person, I was told that my final bill would be adjusted to reflect the legally billable amount. This was three weeks ago and I haven't received a response, and I haven't been able to find a way to pursue a resolution - What can I do to help move this process forward?
    2) It appears I will be unable to pay my bill after this dispute has been reviewed. My phone number is no longer with Verizon. The online bill payment login requires a phone number - I have never been provided with any other account number. Unfortunately, Verizon appears to close access to online bill payment when the phone number is transferred, even to accounts with unpaid invoice amounts. How can I pay my bill online?

    1) I was charged for service following the cancellation of my service; this includes a period following cancellation during which no service was provided.  Service is normally billed through the end of the billing cycle, whether service is provided or not.  "Cancellations will become effective on the last day of that month’s billing cycle, and you are responsible for all charges incurred until then." After working with a representative in person, I was told that my final bill would be adjusted to reflect the legally billable amount. According to their legal docs, the "leagally billable amount" is through the end of the billing cycle. This was three weeks ago and I haven't received a response, and I haven't been able to find a way to pursue a resolution - What can I do to help move this process forward?
    2) It appears I will be unable to pay my bill after this dispute has been reviewed. My phone number is no longer with Verizon. Unfortunately, Verizon appears to close access to online bill payment when the phone number is transferred, even to accounts with unpaid invoice amounts. How can I pay my bill online?  You cannot pay online once the account is cancelled.  You will be mailed a paper copy of the final bill, and you can mail a check, or possibly call in and pay over the phone.  But online is no longer an option once the account is cancelled.
