ORA-08002: sequence PSP_SEQ.CURRVAL is not yet defined in this session

Hi,
I have installed an application on a standalone PC.
I migrated it to my production environment and now I get this error.
In this situation I fill in a new record (but without showing first the records already available) : i.e only the second part of a form with a report and only with create- abilities.
It works well on my standalone PC.
What can be the reason ?
Any reaction will be appreciated.
Leo

You have to use nextval to get it current in your session.
If you just want to know the current value use the user_sequences data dictionary view
select last_number from user_sequences
where sequence_name = 'PSP_SEQ';Edited by: Keith Jamieson on Mar 18, 2009 4:28 PM

    Hi ,
I had created a sequence with the name 'myseq' and used next function to retrieve the value.
    But when used currval function
I am getting the following error:
sequence MYSEQ.CURRVAL is not yet defined in this session

sequence MYSEQ.CURRVAL is not yet defined in this sessionYou don't need currval. The typical scenario is either to use the sequence value and store it in a variable. Then reuse this variable. Or better insert into a table that has a db trigger that fills the ID column from the sequence. In the latter case you would use the returning clause to fetch the new ID value.
    example pl/sql code
    declare
      v_empno ename%empno%type;
    begin
/* the empno column is filled by a DB-Trigger from a seqeunce */
      insert into emp (ename)
      values ('Ellison')
      returning empno into v_empno;
/* do more stuff here, using the variable v_empno */
    end;

  • Sequence is not yet defined in this session

    Hello everybody
I have package, that contain some steps. I create batch log in the start (using BATCH.nextval sequence) and to close batch log in the end (using BATCH.currval sequence) of package, also after each step of the package I create batch_process log (using BATCH.currval and BATCH_PROCESS.nextval sequences). Log works fine, if the package status is "SUCCESS".
But when I get an error through any step, I try to create errored batch_process log (using BATCH.currval and BATCH.nextval sequences) and to close batch log (using BATCH.currval sequence) with error also. So, when I try to create errored batch_process log, T get an error: BATCH.CURRVAL is not yet defined in this session.
Help, please, to solve this error.
    Best regards

Are you trying to handle the error in a scenario and accessing batch.currval from within that scenario ?
If that is the case, then you need to know that each scenario creates its own session and connection to the DB. So, the currval becomes undefined within that session.

  • Is not defined in this session

    SELECT cycle_flag, sequence_name FROM ALL_SEQUENCES
I picked 'record_SEQ' sequence from the listing.
select record_SEQ.Currval from dual; ==> ORA-08002: sequence record_SEQ.Currval is not defined in this session.
    where is the problem ?

As per the link you posted it says , this error comes up when there is no value >...but I can see the last value in the sequence is 20632 (using TOAD's sequence tab and highlight the particular sequence).
    So, This error is confusing

    Dear all,
I have a dataguard architecture with a primary and a standby database (for reporting stuffs). Since I upgraded physical standby to logical standby, I receive this error !

    Hi,
    Ok I applied :
    SQL> ALTER DATABASE STOP LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY;

    SQL> alter database start logical standby apply immediate;

And now I received this :

  • Migration from 9i to 11g Transparent Gateway results in a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch b) ORA-02070: database ... does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context

Migration from 9i to 11g Transparent Gateway results in a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch b) ORA-02070: database ... does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context
What Transparent Gateway (TG) 11g configuration steps prevent the following errors?:
    a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch
    b) ORA-02070: database <DB_link_name> does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context
    Hints:
The current 9i TG works with the existing views and packages.  These same db objects will not compile using the new 11g TG.
The db objects are on an Oracle 10g database linked to an SQL Server 2008 R2 database.
Since the 9i TG works I assume a configuration to the 11g TG will get it working same as before.  But what...
Is is something controlled by these parameters?  (Sorry, I don't know how this stuff works.  I'm the application developer.  My DBAs setup the Transparent Gateways.):
Parameters in the Gateway Startup Shell script:
        ORA_NLS33
        NLS_LANG
      Parameters in the initsid.ora file:
        HS_LANGUAGE
        HS_NLS_DATE_FORMAT
        HS_NLS_DATE_LANGUAGE
I'm avoiding the known workaround to refactor the VIEWS and PACKAGES to contain CAST() statements to explicitly match the data types.  A server side fix to the 11g TG is preferred.
    Sample code:
    a) ORA-12704: character set mismatch
... is caused by SQL that works with my 9i TG but not with my 11g TG.  It's a snippit from my view that won't compile:
                      select status_code                  -- Oracle VARCHAR2(30)
                      from   ora_app_interfaces
                     UNION
select "StatusCode" as status_code  -- SQL Server NVARCHAR(30)
                      from   SqlAppInterfaces
       Example workaround that I'm avoiding:
                      select status_code
                      from   ora_app_interfaces
                     UNION
                      select CAST("StatusCode" as VARCHAR(30)) as status_code
                      from   SqlAppInterfaces
    b) ORA-02070: database <DB_link_name> does not support SYS_OP_C2C in this context
A line of code in the procedure that compiles correctly but fails to execute:
-- Insert into SQL Server from Oracle
               insert into PatientMedRecNum (
                  "PatID",         -- SQL Server INT
                  "MedRecNum",     -- SQL Server NVARCHAR(11)
                  "Hospital")      -- SQL Server NVARCHAR(30)
               values (
                  pi_pat_id,       -- Oracle NUMBER
                  pi_med_rec_num,  -- Oracle VARCHAR2
                  pi_hospital);    -- Oracle VARCHAR2
I'd guess the errors are caused by the TG's implicit conversion between the Oracle VARCHAR2 and the SQL Server NVARCHAR... but this works fine on the 9i TG... how do I set it up to work on the 11g TG?
    Thanks!

Trace of 11g TG... generating errors due to lack of automatic mapping from SQL NVARCHAR to Oracle NVARCHAR, where the previous 9g TG mapped from SQL NVARCHAR to Oracle VARCHAR2.

  • (HELP) ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist

    Contributors,
I am a newbie in Oracle and have oracle database installed and working as expected until few days ago. One day i was getting these ugly messages when connecting via SQLplus
    ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
    Process ID: 0
Session ID: 0 Serial number: 0I did some searches on this topic but haven't found solutions.
    * Some suggested to check[b] environment variables ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID : my ORACLE_HOME is fine, and i DO NOT have ORACLE_SID on the day i realize the problem.
I am not sure if ORACLE_SID variable is usually exist when my database was up and running. So i set ORACLE_SID yet did not help.
    * Some said check if the required services are running :
    - OracleOraDb11g_home1TNSListener : RUNNING
    - OracleServiceORCL : RUNNING
    * Other said that they have the same problem, but everything back to normal after several hours without anything configured / changed (miraculous)
    * I tried to restart or shut down, but no luck
    * In the same thread few days ago, Vlado helped me with suggestion to acces ADRCI and type SHOW PROBLEM also SHOW INCIDENT
but the reply is DIA-48494: ADR home is not set, the corresponding operation cannot be done* Other implied to check the .ora files in NETWORK\ADMIN. I will post it (TNSNAMES.ORA, LISTENER.ORA, SQLNET.ORA) after this.
My platform and some info :
    * OS : MS Windows Vista Ultimate
    * Oracle Database 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) Enterprise/ Standard Edition for Microsoft Windows 32-bit
Mostly i used SQLplus and SQLdeveloper, for developing procedures/ functions/ packages in Oracle Spatial.
Also, am running it in one laptop (server and client altogether).
There is only one database in the Laptop (no other oracle database).
How to fix this ? Please kindly help me.
    Many thanks in advance,
    Damon

  • A newbie problem - Why 'ORA-00942: table or view does not exist'

    Hi,
I am a newbie having a very basic problem.
I have just created a table by reading in a CSV file.
However when I try to SELECT from it, I get an error message saying :-
ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
How can this be when I can see the table name ?
I have tried a couple of things that I found in the Discussion Forum, like 'ALTER SCHEMA' and 'GRANT SELECT'.
Neither seemed sensible because I have just created a table, and sure enough, neither helped.
It's disappointing that something so basic can go wrong.
I will be very grateful for any advice.
    Barry

This tool and forum is awesome. I'm a developer that was never touched HTMLDB and now with in a month I'm developing applications quickly and when I have a question I have this active forum to ask my sometimes stupid and othertimes valid questions! This is great! I don't know where you all find the time to help out so much!
It is a little addicting though... I find myself sitting down Saturday morning just to spend a couple of minutes reading the posts and next thing I know hours have gone by as I use what I read because I can't wait until Monday...
Thank you all for everything!!!! HTMLDB, APEX, Javascript and now in another post I'm learning about "Fine Grained Access Control" or "Virtual Private Database".
    Enjoy, BillC :>)
