Its just the too many open files caused by the bug in collecting the health metrics (see Note:430805.1, 563575.1).
Disable the health metrics Note:379423.1
If you're worried about doing this, read Note:469227.1

Try changing the SQL Server agent service account to Local System or by the same account you are using to

Installation of Oracle agent failed due to AgentPlugIn

I am trying to install agent on HP-UX , Every thing looks ok till agent is installed on the machine, but it fails continuously while running configuration assistant. I tried to reinstall many times , but getting same problem :->

Multiple Oracle Homes - Oracle Listener failes to start after installation

Just in case the listener fails to start after an oracle installation, please check the oracle ports in the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora, both of which are present in the following directory:
...\oracle\<SID>\<Ver>\NETWORK\ADMIN
All installations should have separate listener ports eg. If the first installation has port 1527, the next one should be 1528 and so on..
If they do not, manually change the ports and start the listeners.
Also check SAP Note 98252. Although I didn't find it necessary (I think it applies only if you have a single listener for all oracle homes), it did give me an idea that there some config problem in the .ora files.

I have been using the SQL Server , i am totally blank about Oracle
i am totally confused with this user, and hoststring
i logged in to the enterprise manager using System and manager password
But i cannot connect to any database using SQL Server
i am not remembering any user name or password i have given during installation.
the only thing i remember is
Global databasename = (globedb) i have given
For SID = globedb the same name i have given
for sys ,i have given sysdb as password
and for system i have given systemdb as password
with this can i do anything
when expand the schemas ,i can see the XDB,SCOTT and SYS . how can i login to this .
if i want to login to the scott
what would be the username,password,and hoststring. since i haven't set any password and username ,there would be some default username ,password, and hoststring.

When start the OC4J for the OBIEE Presentation Services, all starts ok, but when i go to connect with the Jconsole for monitoring the JVM, find the next error:

This is OBIEE 10g with OC4J 10.1.3.1.
The jvm starts ok, but i can't monitoring the jvm memory. The JDK is 1.6.0_33 (this jdk version is that i use for the producction installation).
I think that need some path in the environment, but can't discoverer what is the path.

EM Agent is not starting -

Hi DBAs,
I have installed the Oracle Grid Control Grid Control 10.2.0.5.0 on RHEL 5.4 (64 bit) and repository DB is 11.1.0.7. I installed the agent 10.2.0.5.0 on the Database server sucessfully but it is giving me the following error while starting.
[oracle@myhost bin]$ ./emctl start agent
Oracle Enterprise Manager 10g Release 5 Grid Control 10.2.0.5.0.

Starting agent ...... failed.
The agentTZRegion value in /u01/app/oracle/db/tech_st/10.2.0/agent10g/sysman/config/emd.properties is not in agreement with what agent thinks it should be.Please verify your environment to make sure that TZ setting has not changed since the last start of the agent.
If you modified the timezone setting in the environment, please stop the agent and exectute 'emctl resetTZ agent' and also execute the script mgmt_target.set_agent_tzrgn(<agent_name>, <new_tz_rgn>) to get the value propagated to repository.
Consult the log files in: /u01/app/oracle/db/tech_st/10.2.0/agent10g/sysman/log
I searched over this forum and found the following fix:
$export TZ=US/Eastern

but I am getting same error while starting. I am trying the emctl resetTZ agent but getting following error

We have 3 servers. Oracle 9i was installed via same user with same

Server 1 -
- no existing Oracle install
- installed 9.2.0.5 and agent starts
Server 2 -
- old Oracle Apps 11i server

- agent ran from roughly map to August. Since August it refuses to
start. This was not discovered until December so nobody knows what if
anything happened to break it.
Server 3 -
- Oracle Apps 11i dev servers
- installed 9.2.0.6
- agent fails to start
In both cases where the 9i agent fails to start, the 8i agent runs
great.
There are NOT two nic cards.

Oracle Services Does Not Start

Hi,
I have a problem here, I have installed oracle 8.1.5 on the compaq pro liant server and its running on NT 4, just now the server rebooted due to a power failure, when the server finaly starts, the oracle services doest not start (only the oracle Agent is get started). When i chk the event viewer it says .. Could Not Start this service due to a logon failure..
Could anyone pls let me know the order in which the oracle services should start.

you start all your oracle services except "OracleOraHome81ManagementServer". Specially try to start "OracleOraHome81DataGatherer", "OracleOraHome81TNSListener" and service you have created for your database.

Snmp master agent won't start

I'm using Web Server 7.0U1 on Solaris 10U4. I'm trying to start the SNMP master subagent. On my Linux test platform, this works fine. But on the Solaris host, 'magt' hangs forever at startup and does nothing. This happens both when using the web console and wadm start-snmp-master-agent command.
How do I make magt work?

The SNMP master agent fails to start on Solaris 10U2 (and higher) due to the TCP fusion feature added in Solaris 10U2. (TCP fusion is a protocol-less data path for loopback TCP connections). One of the possible workarounds for this issue is to disable TCP fusion by adding the following line in /etc/system:
set ip:do_tcp_fusion = 0x0
The Sun Info Doc 86046 available on sunsolve explains the various TCP fusion related tunables.

TimesTen 7.0.6.9: Replication Agent fails with Error 17029 and 8191

The replication agent failed to start with error 17029 and 8191.
/etc/hosts look like:
1.1.1.1 server1.tt.com server1 => `hostname` returns this
2.2.2.2 server1-2.tt.com server1-2
SQL statement to create a replication schema looks like:
CREATE REPLICATION AAA.R1
MASTER dsn1 on server1-2
SUBSCRIBER dsn2 on server2
STORE dsn1 on "server1-2" PORT 17013
STORE dsn2 on "server2" PORT 17013;

This fails with
17029: This store (dsn1 on server1.tt.com) is not involved as a local store in replication scheme AAA.R1
8191: This store (dsn1 on server1.tt.com) is not involved in a replication scheme
In addition, replication files are created with dsn1 as a prefix.
I added ttHostNameSet('server1-2'); before ttRepStart(), but it did not seem to take effect. I also tried ROUTE statement; however, the error did not disappear.
How can I make this work?

Yes you have to specify the hostname output in the replication DDL.
This is what you can find in the replication Doc
"When specifying the host for a data store in a replication element, you should always use the name returned by the hostname command, as replication uses the this same host name to verify that the current host is involved in the replication scheme. Replication schemes may not be created that do not include the current host.
If a host contains multiple network interfaces (with different IP addresses), you should specify which interfaces are to be used by replication using the ROUTE clause. You must specify a priority for each interface. Replication tries to first connect using the address with the highest priority."

Can HA-Oracle agent distinguish a failed database from an inactive one?

I read "Oracle and Sun Cluster:A technical Overview" by Joseph Bianco. It says "The HA-Oracle agent can distinguish a failed database from an inactive one".
How do we configure HA-Oracle agent to be smart enough to distinguish normal shutdown (due to cold backup, or other maintainence purpose) and a failed database? So, it should not automatically start up database at the other node for normal shutdown operations.

There are several ways to handle this scenario, including disabling
the fault monitor during backups or maintenance. I'm not sure there
is a generic, best way, so you should consider a solution based on your

1) When trying to start the agent I get this error:
./emctl start agent

2) Any advice on what to look for?

As sim said,look at the log files.Any changes were made on the host before you started the agent?

I had the same problem the other day when a new HBA card was added and I had to follow the doc 422296.1
BTW first post the errors from the logs may be its due to port conflict also.

Failed to start odi agent

Hi all,
[oracle@lnxstby64C bin]$./agentscheduler.sh -PORT=29010 -NAME=my_agent -v=3
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: oracle/odi/AgentThe agent used to work well before I stop it today. But after I stop it, it failed to start.
Any comments will be appreaciated!!!

the directory (bin) where you're lauching the agentschduler.sh is part of then.
The parent of "bin" directory is "oracledi" and the parent of "oracledi" is the first level of the install directories.
My suggestion is to change tnhe owner of any of these directory and files to Oracle.
