  • ABAP+JAVA stack and oracle dataguard

    Hi all,
I use Oracle Dataguard for my Data recovery System.
How can I manage tha Java part of nw2004s. In case of failover or switchover, the ABAP part is OK but the J2EE cannot start.
    Thank's for your help,

It's ok guys. I just replace the j2ee/cluster directory of standby system by the one of source system.
The j2e engine can be started.

  • Oracle DataGuard Logical Standby

Hi , I'd like to know what are the premisses to make a standby logical replication.
I have two environments (production and standby) with different number of processors and storage.
I'd like to know if it's possible to create data guard solution with these two environments and what are the premisses that I need aware to install the solution.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello;
Yes the storage ( as long as you have enough space ) and cpu don't matter.
You can use hardware that's quite a bit different and it will work fine.
You can also create a Logical Standby fro a physical standby.
    These notes may help :
NOTE 413484.1 - Data Guard Support for Heterogeneous Primary and Physical Standbys in Same Data Guard Configuration
Mixed Oracle Version support with Data Guard Redo Transport Services [ID 785347.1]
Logical Standby's don't seem to be very popular and the support base suffers because of this. I would consider a physical standby with Active Data Guard if costs allow.
Active Data Guard makes an excellent "Reader" database plus I believe your switchover and failover options are much better than a Logical Standby.

  • How to configure oracle dataguard for connecting to the second nic.

    hi
i want deploy my oracle dataguard on a remote site on a separate lease line
and on the second nic of the primary. i just have a concern that what
configurations should be made in the primary or standby to make sure the replication can work as the first nic is connected to receive the general database
data and the second nic is being planned for replication only.
so how standby will come to know that it has to pick which one of then.
    waiting for an early reply

    thanks for the reply
does that mean nothing is to be needed to configure for oracle standby as such.
can you give me some idea of how this ip routing configuration will be done

  • ORACLE DATAGUARD and STANDBY on two LINUX   machine (64 bits and 32 bits)

    Hi there
I have two Linux machines: one with Linux RH 4 Update 2 for 64 bits and
the other one with Linux RH 4 Update 2 for 32 bits.
    I was wondering two things:
    1) Is it possible to implement ORACLE DATAGUARD between these two machines?
    2) Is it possible to implement only a Static Standby Database on the second node?
Suppose we have Oracle Database EE on both machines.
Thanks in advance for any information
    Regards
    Felipe

But both oracle database version must be of 32 bit version.
    from oracle doc
2.3.1 Hardware and Operating System Requirements
The following list describes hardware and operating system requirements for using Data Guard:
All members of a Data Guard configuration must run an Oracle image that is built for the same platform.
For example, this means a Data Guard configuration with a primary database on a 32-bit Linux on Intel system can have a standby database that is configured on a 32-bit Linux on Intel system. However, a primary database on a 64-bit HP-UX system can also be configured with a standby database on a 32-bit HP-UX system, as long as both servers are running 32-bit images.

  • Oracle DBA Help

We have an Oracle 9i Database Standard Edition that is in production for about 3 years running on Windows 2003 Server Standard Edition. Our company does not have Oracle DBA. When we purchased Oracle license we didn’t sign up for Oracle Support.
If something goes wrong with Oracle Database, if we could not figure out the solution on our own, is there any company that provides Oracle DBA help on a contract basis?
What happens if we get internal errors in the database? Can we still contact Oracle Support?
    Please advice.

#1. When you purchased Oracle Licenses, I guess Oracle would have provided (Support Identifier or CSI numbers), with that you should be able to create accounts/access with METALINK, which is one form of support Oracle provides. 99.99% of the day-to-day problems are resolved via metalink, oracle forms (like this) and other discussion threads.
#2. But if you want Oracle personnel onsite, then it needs a different contract or support level, which is very expensive in my opinion. There used to be different support levels like platinum, gold, silver etc., I'm not sure of the classification now, better contact Oracle for additional info.
I would highly recommend for #1, check the cost involved in #2 compare that with that of hiring a part-time/remote DBA, and see which one works better. If your database is not mission critical, configuring proper back and restore would help bring your database up, but with some downtime.
    Hope it helps,

  • Applying oracle patchset in oracle-dataguard environment

    Hello There,
I wish to apply oracle patchset in oracle dataguard environment.
can you please let me know the steps that has to be taken on Primary & standby database?
is there any specific document for this?
    DB - oracle 10.2.0.4
    OS - Linxu x86_64
    Best Regards
    Sachin Bhatt

    Hi Sachinn,
    To patch primary site, you can find the detailed infirmation in readme.html, in the patch zip file. Additionally, at the standby site, In order to apply the patch;
    1) stop the log shipment
    2) stop the oracle related services
    3) patch the Oracle
    4) Startup migrate
    5) execute the SQL scripts
    6) start the log shipment

  • Enabling Oracle Dataguard modes?

There are 3 modes in which Oracle dataguard works-Maximum Protection, Max availability and Max performance. How do I set any one of these? whats the process?
I have implemented a dataguard standby using manual steps, now I would like to see the GUI tool-Dataguard Broker to manage it..but I did not see it listed in my windows programs under Oracle? How do I start this Broker?
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

You didn't indicate the version of your database. Assuming it to be oracle10g and if it is so and want to mange the dataguard configuration using GUI, you would be needing Grid Control and agents on primary and standby servers and of course DG broker. This would be accessible over your internet browser and is not associated with any programs/menu items under windows.
