Oracle DB upgrade path

Hi Experts,
I have some questions about the upgrade of oracle db.
my current version is oracle 8.0.5, we plan to upgrade it to 11.2.
But as I checked in the upgrade guide Upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2).pdf, this is valid from 10.2 to 11.2,
and regarding the upgrade document Upgrade to Oracle Database 10g Release 2 (10.2), this is valid from 9.2.0.6 to 10.2
and if we want to upgrade to 9.2.0.6, we need upgrade from 8.1.7, but currently we are 8.0.5
so, my question is, per SAP's official suggestions, do we need to upgrade from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7 and then to 9.2 and then 10.2 and then 11.2?
the second question is, how can we upgrade it? do we need system copy (export and then import which is load based method)?
the third question is, can we upgrade the db directly on PRD system or it must be exported from the PRD system and then import to a new system?
the fourth question is, will it be donw at downtime or uptime? if downtime, how long it will be?
Thank you very much for your advice, award points will sure to you.

You should upgrade oracle 8.0.5 to 8.0.6 first, then oracle 8.0.6 to oracle 9.2.0.8 and in last upgrade it to oracle 11g. More information, you can check from SAP note 1431797.

You need to use oracle tool DBUA and Runinstaller to upgrade not system copy tools.

Upgrade will take place in downtime phase. Downtime depends upon system resources. I would suggest you to first do the test upgrade in your sandbox system. Then do development, quality and upgrade in step wise manner.

  • NW 7.01 on Oracle 10.2.0.4 - Upgrade Path to NW 7.4 on Oracle 11.2

    Hi all
    One of our clients has a 2-system-BW-landscape (2 physical hosts) based on the following versions:
    * Windows 2008 R2 SP1
    * Oracle 10.2.0.4.0
    * Oracle Client 10.2.0.4.0
    * NetWeaver 7.01 SP7
    * SAP Kernel 7.01 Patch 94 64bit UC
    As you can see 60% of the setup is no longer in maintenance. The client does not have sufficient hardware ressources for a third physical host.
    I wonder what is the best approach (upgrade path) to update to
    * Oracle 11.2.0.4
    * NetWeaver 7.4
    * Kernel 7.41
    * Oracle Client 11.2.0.4
    My inital thoughts:
    Upgrade Kernel from 7.01 64bit UC to 7.20 (non-EXT) 64bit UC
    Upgrade Oracle InstantClient from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.4
    Upgrade Oracle from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.4
    Upgrade NetWeaver to 7.4
    I know there are a whole lot of SAP Notes about these topics, but maybe one can already suggest a way to go.
    What do you think?
    BR Michael

    Hi Michael,
    These sequence of steps which you described looks good.
    Upgrade Kernel from 7.01 64bit UC to 7.20 (non-EXT) 64bit UC
    Upgrade Oracle InstantClient from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.4
    Upgrade Oracle from 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.4
    Upgrade NetWeaver to 7.4
    Steps 2+3 can be combined together and you will be left with only 3 steps.

  • Upgrade Path from 5.1.4

    We are currently running version 5.1.4 and are looking to upgrade.  What is the recommended upgrade path or version we should be planning to go to?  Our pipeline isn't very complicated since I've read some articles about there not being a direct migration to version 3.0.  We currently develop using the RAD toolkit and .NET if that is a factor when upgrading.
    Also if someone could clarify which packages I'm looking at migrating to as before I installed Endeca IAP and Dev Studio and I was up and running.  I don't see those packages in the newer versions of the software and I'm not 100% on what the packages were renamed to after the transition to Oracle.

    It sounds like you are upgrading an Endeca Commerce / Guided Search implementation.  This forum is for Oracle Endeca Information Discovery (EID) products.  You will get better answers over on the other forum, https://forums.oracle.com/community/developer/english/endeca_experience_management/technical_questions .

  • Upgrade Path 8.1.6 to 8.1.7.4

    Hi,
    I have to upgrade Oracle 8.1.6 to Oracle 8.1.7.4. In the Oracle8i Migration Release 3 (8.1.7) PDF documentation, I don't find a upgrade path. So I think I can directly uprade to 8.1.7.4. But somebody told me that I have first upgrade to 8.1.7.0?
    Is there anybody with experince in this topic and can help me?
    Oliver

    You have to first upgrade from 8.1.6 to 8.1.7.0 and then apply the 8.1.7.4 patch. 8.1.7.4 is not the full blown database software, it's an upgrade.
    The readme for 8.1.7.4 states:
    This is not a complete software distribution and you must install it over an existing 8.1.7 Oracle Server installation.

  • Recommended upgrade path for 9.0.2.0.1

    Hi,
    Could you please help me in finding the recommended upgrade path for Oracle Application Server 9.0.2.0.1?
    What would be the sequence of upgrade and can we install in the existing oracle homes?
    The current scenario is given below:
    Host #1 - Infrastructure Installation with OID database (9.0.2.0.1)
    - Seperate portal database with portal schema
    Host #2 - Middle tier installation (9.0.2.0.1)
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Sindhiya V.

    If you are upgrading to 10.1.2, the upgrade process is automated and the error reporting is very good (in case you run into any issues). Please check the Upgrade and Compatibility Guide available at
    (For Windows - http://iasdocs/iasdl/1012win_doc/upgrade.1012/upgrade/toc.htm
    (Oracle® Application Server Upgrade and Compatibility Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) for Microsoft Windows )
    and For Unix - http://iasdocs/iasdl/1012sol_doc/upgrade.1012/upgrade/toc.htm).
    (Oracle® Application Server Upgrade and Compatibility Guide 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) for UNIX )
    (there should be the same doc available on OTN, so search by the doc name)
    The upgrade of AS to 10.1.2 has gone through complete QA cycle and is a robust and easy process.
    If you are upgrading to 10.1.3.x, then it's a different process; since there are lots of significant new features in 10.1.3. You will need to install the new Application Server and deploy your application.
    Note, for database access, Oralce has re-implemented the dataso urce in 10.1.3.x releases. so for the config file data-sources.xml, it's automatically converted to the new format file underneath. So your existing data-sources.xml should work. But you could use admin.jar command to convert the file manually as well. please check service guide data source chapter.

  • SGD version confusion & upgrade paths (4.61 to 4.7 or 5.0)

    Hi,
    I'm a little bit confused. I'll have to upgrade an SGD installation in the near future and I've come across a strange situation. The version currently running is 4.61.911 - at least that's what 'tarantella version' displays. Customer wants to upgrade to 5.0 for which 4.61 is not in the upgrade path according to the releas notes. However, both, 4.7 and 4.62.913 which I've downloaded from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud, are. The funny thing is: both intermediate versions do not have our exact version 4.61.911 in *their* upgrade path as well, but they have:
    - 4.60.911
    - 4.61.915
    That's consistent across both release notes. Our version number looks like a mixture of those two with the minor version .61 and the patch level .911
    I assume upgrading to either 4.62.913 or 4.7 should still be possible but it puzzles me that I can't find my particular version in the release notes. Has anyone of you encountered a similar situation and is able to shed some light on this?
    Many thanks in advance & kind regards,
    Henning Halfpap

    Hi, MrBrown,
    many thanks for the quick reply! It seems we'll go for 4.71 - at least for now: our main reason for the upgrade is that the certificates of the Java applets in Version 4.61 have expired and we expect that the applets in Version 4.71 have been signed recently so their certificates will be valid for a while. Is there any way to find out the period of validity of the applets' certificates *without* installing the package and trying the applet in the browser? Or does anyone have either 4.7, 4.71 or 5.0 installed and can tell me how long the Java applets' certificates will be valid? Wer are looking for a validtity period of at least two years (until 2015).
    Thanks again & Kind regards,
    Henning Halfpap

  • ADF and WebCenter 11g libraries upgrade paths for WLS 12.1.3

    We want to upgrade one of our WLS from 10.3.6 to 12.1.3.
    (1) The application hosted on this instance uses the following ADF and WebCenter libraries (also deployed on the same WLS). Please confirm if these can be deployed in WLS12c without any changes or if we need to check on an upgrade path to ADF or Webcenter 12c components as well:

    oracle.wsm.seedpolicies(11.1.1,11.1.1)
    orai18n-adf(11,11.1.1.1.0)
    (There are other libraries too but not anything related to ADF or Webcenter)
    (2) We also have EM extension template in WLS 10.3.6. How can we upgrade this? Do we need to delete this and install FMW infra 12c with the additional DB schema and then try to extend the 12c domain?

    Moved your thread to the WLS Communities since you are not asking if products are certified.
    Thanks,

  • 10.2.0.4 on OEL x86-64 Upgrade Path Issues

    I am performing a new installation of Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control (OEM GC). I want to want to run Oracle Enterprise Manager 10.2.04 on Linux x86-64 - OEL 4 update 5. My installation for OMS and Repository will be on one server. I will install the database separate from the OEM GC installation.
    My upgrade path is a full install of Oracle Enterprise Manager 10.2.0.3 followed by patch to 10.2.0.4. I desire to have my databases at 11g so I would have to upgrade 10gR2 database to 11g database as well. My questions are as follows:
    1) Linux x86-64 is not supported on 10.2.0.3 according to certify page. Why is OEL 4 update 4,5 not on Certification page for OEM GC?
    2) What installation instruction set should I follow for 10.2.0.3 GC on Linux x86-64? Linux x86-64 documentation following RHEL install?
    2) Oracle 11g Repository is also not supported on 10.2.0.3. Is it possible (is it supported?) for me to install Oracle Database 11.1.0.6 EE as repository for OEM GC 10.2.0.3 then only patch OEM GC to 10.2.0.4?
    Thank you.

    There is no direct full installer to 10.2.0.3 Database. Do I need to do the following:
    1) Install OEL 4 Update 5 x86_64
    2) Meet prerequisites for Oracle Db 10.2.0.1 (x86_64 - only full installer is 10.2.0.1)
    3) Patch Db to 10.2.0.2 or 10.2.0.3 (is there a reason for 10.2.0.3)
    4) Install OEM GC 10.2.0.3
    a) requires 10.1.0.4, 10.1.0.5, 10.2.0.2 or 10.2.0.3 database
    b) use ignore system requirements parameter since OEL 4 Update 5 (x86_64) is not supported
    5) I am not sure if any patches are required to OS, DB or OEM at this level
    6) Patch OEM GC 10.2.0.3 to 10.2.0.4
    7) I am not sure if any patches are required to OS, DB or OEM at this level
    8) Follow note: 467677.1 replacing OEM GC 10.2.0.1 with my version 10.2.0.3 and upgrade db to 11g
    done
    Does this look correct? Is there a more efficient way?

    What is the most recent version and can our current version be upgraded directly to it, or will the latest version need to be installed on the same server or a different server?
    Let me know.

    The latest version for Financial Reporting available is EPM 11.1.2.2.

    You can directly upgrade from 11.2.0.2 to 12c - http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/UPGRD/preup.htm#UPGRD12358
    Using DBUA is recommended over any other upgrade method - http://docs.oracle.com/database/121/UPGRD/upgrade.htm#UPGRD105
