Oracle linux install dies

Hi all,
I'm installing Oracle 8.0.5.1 on Redhat 6.1 (with updates from the updater service) and am running into a problem during the intall script. It seems to get most of the way thru the install and then blows up, same place always.
It's when the startup(put SID here).sql file is being run, to be specific:
Error during action ''.
Command: cd /app/oracle/product/8.0.5;
/app/oracle/product/8.0.5/bin/svrmgl <<!
@/app/oracle/product/8.0.5/rdbms/admin/startuporax.sql
I've set all the environment variables in the install notes and am installing as a user called oracle that I created according to the requirements, including their profile.
Potential issues?:
I'm using bash as my shell, don't think that makes any difference? I couldn't find anything about setting ipcs process values in the install notes. When I run ipcs I get an empty list of shared memory segments, semaphore arrays, etc.
Or maybe it's something entirely different. Any clues will be much appreciated.
Please email me at [email protected] if you know anything.
Thanks
Bill Baker

It looks like it is having trouble creating the redo* log files above?

  • Oracle Linux install on virtualBox is hanging

I am installing OEL on VirtualBox from ISO image
The initial command line scrolling is hanging after:
NET: registered Protocol family 2what could be the problem?

That is normal functioning. If you wish mouse integration you need to install the virtualbox guest additions after you installed the OS. The installation is normally pretty straight forward and you should not experience all the trouble you have. I can only assume you did not specify the correct OS type when creating the new virtual machine. If you don't see a mouse, perhaps enabling "absolute mouse pointer" in the same settings dialog as above can resolve your issue.
I suggest you have a brief look in the Virtuabox documentation. There are also tutorials available that might help you to get the software installed:
    e.g.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-z6Vaj7UR5k
The installation for Red Hat, CentOS or OEL is the same.
P.S. If the initial issue of this thread is solved, it is considered good to etiquette to mark helpful or correct answers and start a new post if you encounter other additional problems.

  • Can`t Reboot after Oracle Linux Rel.6 Installed

Previously the Desktop PC had WINDOWS 7 and Debian Linux installed with GRUB controlling the dual boot between Debian and Windows 7. It worked fine.. no problems. Decided to go with Oracle Linux as I will be installing some Oracle products on this PC.
Installed Oracle Linux over Debian. The Oracle Linux install completed successfully and requested a reboot. On reboot the process stops on the GRUB step showing...
    GRUB Loading.
    Welecome to GRUB!
    error: file not found.
    Entering rescue mode...
    grub_rescue
Seems to be missing a file on the Linux side to initiate the dual boot sequence.
    1. Does Oracle Linux have GRUB available for dual boots.
    2. If not, then is there some tool available to control dual boots with Oracle Linux and Windows 7.

Reran the entire Oracle Linux install and ensured the boot loader was put in the Master Boot Record. I selected 'Change Device' to confirm the Master Boot Record option was highlighted.
Here are my partitions on disk 'sdb' :
    Disk
Device Size (MB) Mount Point Type
    sdb
    sdb1 2000 / ext4
    sdb2 8000 swap
    sdb3 180780 ext3
Rebooted system when the Oracle Iinux install finished - successfully... but once again encountered the following:
    GRUB Loading.
    Welecome to GRUB!
    error: no such device: 121d0490-81aa-4f10-a2fa-17ca257b27f4
    Entering rescue mode...
    grub_rescue
Followed your instructions to fix the problem, and at the shell prompt # entered these commands :
    chroot /dev/sysimage
    grup-install /dev/sdb
    Message returned:
    Installation finished. No errors encountered
This is the contents of the device map /boot/grub/device.map
    # This device map was generated by anaconda
    (hd0) /dev/sdb
Rebooted system... same GRUB error message was displayed.
What am I missing? Never had this problem with Debian !

  • Rpm for telnet utility on oracle linux 5.7

    Hi,
I new to oracle linux , and i have two questions:
    1) I have an oracle linux installed on one of our servers. I think its version 5.7 but i am not 100% sure.
I run cat/etc/issue but it doest report the oracle linux version. How can i found out which version installed on this server ?
    2) I need to install rpm for telnet. From where i can download only the required telnet rpm for verion 5.7 ?
    Thanks

    1) The following should help:
    http://www.oracle.com/us/technologies/027626.pdf
    2) Telnet has been replaced by SSH, similar to FTP, for serious security reasons.
The Telnet client is normally installed by default. To install the client and server, the following should work:
    <pre>
    yum install telnet telnet-server
    </pre>
To setup access to Oracle Public yum, see this link: http://public-yum.oracle.com/

  • Oracle Linux 6.2 with RAC 11g cluster install fails on root.sh ioctl

I have 2 HP Servers I'm trying to install a cluster to.
I've tried Oracle Linux 6.2 and 6.3 with the same error on both nodes when running the root.sh script.
I have tried the permissions, run-levels, etc that I have found in the forum and nothing has worked except the deconfigure works great. /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl -deconfig -force
    root.sh Errors:

ohasd failed to start at /u01/app/11.2.0/grid/crs/install/rootcrs.pl line 443.
I can't see whats wrong, I did use ASM to configure iSCSI disks from a storage device which appeared to work correctly:
    # oracleasm listdisks
    VOL1
    VOL2
    VOL3
    VOL5
    # ls /dev/oracleasm/disks/
    VOL1 VOL2 VOL3 VOL5
When I created the disks with ASM I used multipath successfuly:
    # oracleasm createdisk VOL1 /dev/mapper/23535333762373932
The other node can see the disks just fine with oracleasm listdisks
    I chose 3 disks for the OCR - VOL1-3
There was one forum work around to edit the $GRID_HOME/crs/install/s_crsconfig_lib.pm which I did no Oracle Linux 6.3 to no avail. I also tried using NFS mounted volumes for the OCR drives but got the same error.
    Using the install: linux.x64_11gR2_grid

oracleasm (aka asmlib) may not be supported on RHEL(OEL) 6.x. You do NOT need asmlib and it's days are numbered.

Why is your "requirement" to install in graphical mode?  Once you are past the installation itself, the only thing that buys you is that your server will have been configured to boot up to runlevel 5, running a graphical desktop (gnome or kde, I forget which).  And what does THAT buy you on a server?
I do not run ANY of my Linux servers "in graphical mode" -- running a graphical desktop.  Nor did I run a graphical desktop when I had Solaris, AIX, or HP-UX servers.

  • How to install oracle 11g on oracle linux 6.1.

Hello everyone here at oracle forum.!
I'm new on using the linux and i badly need to learn it including the Oracle Database for making PHP website.
Because of this i downloaded all the packages of Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 Media Pack for x86 (32 bit) at E-Delivery.
Now i was having a hard time figuring out how to install all the 4 ISO images. the only one that worked was was the boot.iso that installed the Oracle Linux 6 without the DB.
So what would i do to use the 3 updates?
I burnt them all one by one on different DVD but it wont look for the other packages.
So please guys bare with me and help me figure out how to use the other 3 packages for i know it has the Oracle Database.
Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 source DVD 1 V26570-01
Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 source DVD 2 V26571-01
Oracle Linux Release 6 Update 1 Boot iso image for x86 (32 bit) V26573-01

Oracle Linux does not install any Oracle Database. You don't need the source and boot.iso DVD. You can boot and install the system from the Oracle Linux 6.1 installation DVD. The boot.iso is useful for a network install and the source DVD if you want to compile everything yourself.
As far as I know, Oracle Database has not been certified for Oracle Linux 6 yet. That does not necessarily mean you cannot install Oracle Database on Oracle Linux 6 yet, but you will run into problems with software requirements, package dependencies and perhaps incompatibilities, i.e. ext4 file system.
I think your best option is to install Oracle Linux 5 and certainly use Oracle VirtualBox. If you are new to Linux you probably cannot use Linux as your primary OS yet, and VirtualBox will allow you to install and re-install without jeopardizing your primary host OS. You can also download pre-build virtual machines for Virtualbox from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html which might have everything you need installed and ready to use.

My advice to you is, since you have established such a reputation on this board, on issues that you don't have any knowledge or don't feel comfortable about, please just keep quiet. I don't think your job is to answer every question that has been posted on this board. Recklessly, or worse, knowingly, providing a wrong answer is much worse than no answer at all. These are serious personal accusations. Are you trying to make some noise to create some visibility for yourself? Please don't steal any of my limelight! ;-)
Personally, I don't particularly appreciiate many of your responses to some of the questions that I posted. To me, your responses are rude, idiotic (and insults to my intelligence)!Sorry, I have no idea what makes you so upset. Are you just making this up? What questions and answers are you taking about?
Are you referring to this post: Ralink RT5390 Does Not Work on the UEK Kernel
May I quote/remind you of your own posting:
We installed OL6.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 on a new Asus X45A notebook. It has a Ralink RT5390 wireless card. With Ubuntu, both wifi and video work flawlessly. However, the wifi driver (from elrepo) does not work for the the uek kernel (2.6.39). While the wifi driver works when boot into the RHEL kernel (2.6.32), it created an "even bigger problem" in that the video starts at about 1/10 from the left edge of the screen.
But again, please no one be fooled by my overly optimistic and simplistic comments*. The reality is, I am glad OL6 desktop works at all.
    * For example, I actually installed OL6 on 4 notebooks, one of them "does not work" because I couldn't dim the screen. I did not intend to lie, but subconsciously, I somewhat forgot that there was this failed case.
So what are you really trying to tell us/me here?
I think you have shot yourself in the foot here. I'm afraid the best I can offer to you is to remove my response if you remove your post.

    Hi Avi,
    Thanks for your reply.
I was able to install the packages, not eactly the same way as u told but I downloaded them from http://public-yum.oracle.com/ and installed them manually. Was also able to change parameters.
And Bingo, there was no pre-requisite failures while installing SOA.
One of the probs that I'm facing now is that when I try to access the WLS Console of SOA after creating domain, I'm able to open it on the local machine using IP and localhost. But it doesn't work the same way when I use hostname. It gives an error saying No Route to the Host. Also I'm not able to access WLS Console from any other machine using IP address of the machine.
Any inputs that can be of any help.
    Cheers,
    Varun

If you missed or chose to ignore the point that the installation should not be done as root, who knows what else you missed or chose to ignore.

  • How to install GCC and DKMS on Oracle Linux?

    Hello,
I am a newbie to Oracle Linux. I installed Oracle Linux on a virtual machine using Oracle VirtualBox. Now I need to install the packages DKMS and GCC in order to share drives between the host and the ghost.
    Here is what is happening:
    # yum install dkms
    Setting up Install Process
    Setting up repositories
No Repositories Available to Set Up
Reading repository metadata in from local files
    Parsing paskage install arguments
    No Match for afgument: dkms
    Nothing to do
    Please, advice what to do.
    Thanks in advance.

Here is what you need to install under Oracle Linux or Red Hat Enterprise Linux to install the VirtualBox Guest Additions:
    <pre>yum -y install gcc kernel-uek-devel-$(uname -r)</pre>
The packages are available from the Oracle public yum repository as already mentioned, or on the installation DVD in the server directory.
