Oracle VM x86, enable audio to guests

Hi, we have one x86 server Sun Fire X4170 M2 and Oracle VM Server 2.2.1 installed in it.
We want to enable audio in a guest hosted by this server.
We saw that the qemu command
*/usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm -help*
doesn't show the option
soundhw
If we are right, this is the option needed for enabling audio in guests
(from /etc/xen/xmexample.hvm)
# enable sound card support, [sb16|es1370|all|..,..], default none
#soundhw='sb16'
When we change the guest's .vm file adding the soundhw option and create the domain, we receive error messages
*[root@ovm ~]# xm create /PATH/running_pool/11_GUEST/vm.cfg*
Using config file "/PATH/running_pool/11_GUEST/vm.cfg".
Error: Domain '11_GUESTS' already exists with ID '19'
*[root@ovmserver ~]# vi /var/log/xen/qemu-dm-11_GUEST.log*
domid: 18
qemu: the number of cpus is 1
/usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm: invalid option -- '-soundhw'
Additionally we tested all the possible values for soundhw (ich6, ac97, es1370, sb16, pcspk), but (as we expected) none worked.
Has somebody enabled audio for guests in a similar scenario?
Thanks in advance.

Using config file "/PATH/running_pool/11_GUEST/vm.cfg".
Error: Domain '11_GUESTS' already exists with ID '19'This means the guest is already running. You need to shut it down first.
You may have more luck using PCI passthru to actually pass the entire sound device into the guest as a PCI device and let the guest OS handle it completely.

  • Oracle 10g x86 vs x64

    Hi There,
I've been asked by an end user if there is significant improvements to using Oracle 10g x64 over oracle 10g x86. While in theory x64 should run better is this categorically true?
    Regards
    Mr G

    Hello again Dude.
The shared storage is configured fairly benignly. The iSCSI volume is configured via YaST and, after establishing a connection, the device shows up as a drive in the system i.e. /dev/sdx.
The storage was formatted as an ext3 filesystem using fdisk. Afterward, it was mounted to /opt/oracle/product using the following command:
    mount /dev/sdb1 /opt/oracle/product
To ensure the database, once installed, would be available, a corresponding entry was added to /etc/fstab .
Before I began the Oracle installation, I was sure to perform the following as root after the mount:
    chown -R oracle:oinstall /opt/oracle/product
    chmod -R 775 /opt/oracle/product
Checking the ownership and permissions were the first thing I did after noticing the permissions issues during the linking phase.
I understand what you are getting at here Dude- to eliminate the possibility of write failures on the shared storage, I unmounted the /opt/oracle/product directory, reverting back to local. After unmounting, I verified that the permissions on the product folder were drwr-xr-x and the owner was oracle:oinstall.
The next attempt at installation was successful. The issue was due to the shared storage permissions. Dude, you've earned yourself a Caucasian!
Thanks for the help: I am off to determine why the linking phase fails when installing to the shared storage.
    Cheers!

  • "Enable Audio Effects" not work

Hello, can somebody help me out please?
I have a SB Audigy 2ZS [E480]. In the EAX console, the Audio Effects are disabled. When I check the "Enable Audio Effects" box, the functions briefly lite up, but disappear again, immediately. So how do I enable this function. It has worked fine before...
Also, I tried the karaoke. As I understand it correctly, it should be possible to play MP3's suppressing the voices. This, however, does not happen. The complete song including the singing is heard, whatever I change in the menu.

Unfortunately, regardless of delivery scheme/format, PrE cannot encode DD 5.1 SS. Without a US$250 plug-in, CS4 PrPro cannot do this.
Actually, it does not take most videographers long, before they realize that the on-camera DD 5.1 SS is a bad marketing ploy. To record effective 5.1, one needs six well-designed, well-placed mics, a multi-track recorder w/ mixer and a skilled audio tech. The on-camera mics usually pick up tons of signals that are not wanted. Just having 6 mics does not yield good 5.1 Audio. Instead, they pick up the cameraman's clothes flapping in the breeze, the voices of people well behind the camera, every bit of wind and traffic well off-camera. Few continue to use it, because the Audio ends up being so very poor. They quickly switch back to stereo.
I use DD 5.1 SS a lot, but "create" it with usually 1 stereo source and 5 mono sources, or 6 mono sources. I have complete control over my sound stage and do "knockout" 5.1 Audio, but it takes time, equipment and for me, the SurCode DD 5.1 SS plug-in. I also do some music tracks in DTS, but that is another SurCode encoder, and some extra work in Encore to get that onto a DVD-Video as a supplemental Audio stream. When you hear it though, you will feel that the time and the US$350 encoder are well worth it all.
I wish that I had experience with exactly how PrE 8 handles the DD 5.1 SS Audio source files, but I do not. I can only speak in generalities, based on other Adobe NLE programs - each with a DD 5.1 SS encoder.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • [SB Audigy 2] Enabling Audio Effects in EAX Console No Sound in Games.

K[SB Audigy 2] Enabling Audio Effects in EAX Console > No Sound in Games.7 Subject says it all.
Got an SB Audigy 2 from a friend, installed the latest drivers. Enabled the Audio Effects in the EAX Console ('Advanced EQ > Pop' to be more specific) Music sounds great and all, but most games I play will have no sound. Disabling the effects returns the sound. Only happens with games that use EAX btw, obviously. I would really like to be able to play games with the improved sound.
Is this suppose to happen? I've tried the unnoficial drivers as well, no difference.
    Thanks in advance.

ORe: [SB Audigy 2] Enabling Audio Effects in EAX Console > No Sound in Games.g Man oh man, why didn't I try that myself.. It works, I will now sculpt a small statue of JRosenfeld<span class="lia-user-name UserName">, place it in my garden and pray there before each gaming session.. Thanks!! =)

I made a little test last fall with the pre release of Oracle
for linux. I timed the creation of index for a table,
Linux 34 sec, Solaris x86 1 min and 41 sec.
Please note that this was not the exact same hardware,
    Linux Box
    Pentium II 266Mhz
    64 MB RAM
IBM ULTRA/DMA IDE hardisk (Dont know the exact name but
it is supposed to be quite a fast one

    Solaris Box
    Pentium II 266Mhz
    64 MB RAM
    QUANTUM FIREBALL IDE DISK
I always suspected the disk for part of the time difference,
but the linux Box definitly was not beeing held back by the OS.
The Linux box had some SCSI disk but they included neither
    oracle install nor datafiles.

    Hi All,
I have installed a VM guest Oracle Linux Enterprise 5U6 in Oracle VM server 2.2. I follow below procedure to config NTP in VM server.

  • Enabling Audio Input

I have my Xbox 360 setup with my computer using the VGA adapter for display and a 3.5mm output streamed into my Mac mini for audio. When I go to System Preferences > Sound > Input, I see the sound coming, as the "Input Level" bar is fluctuating; however, I don't actually hear anything.
I imagine that this is by design, but is there a simple way to enable the input sound?
I originally had a joiner that would stream both the mac mini output and Xbox 360 output into my speakers, but I think the mac mini hogged too much power and the audio coming in from the 360 was too faint.
    Thanks

Actually, Rogue Amoeba has a free utility called "LineIn" that will let you pass the audio through to the Mac mini's speakers:

  • Get Sequence's Enabled Audio Sources From Player Plugin

Hi, I'm a video editor with some limited programming experience and I've been exploring the possibility of expanding on Premiere Pro's feature set. Nothing fancy or 3D just adding functionality. Specifically I'm looking to add the ability to playback a clip in the Source monitor and preview the audio sources selected on the current sequence. Meaning whichever audio sources are enabled in the sequence would playback along with the video in the source monitor. (Avid has this feature). I've not yet found anything in the documentation that suggests that the current sdk can allow this. I can't find any way to get "enabled or disabled" info from the sequence. In fact I haven't found anything on getting any settings or values from the sequence.
Can someone point me in the right direction?
I also would love to be able to add several other similar enhancements to Premiere Pro. I'm not much of a programmer. It will probably take me ages to do something an actual programmer would take just a few days to do, so I'm more than open to anyone willing to help. I do know Premiere Pro inside out from a user's point of view and would be willing to contribute to any effort in this particular direction.

Yeah... I feared as much. It's too bad really. I have in fact sent a feature request for this several times. (Ever since cs4 rolled along) I just figured it wasn't something adobe was interested in. Or just not really a priority. Which is why I was looking to build it myself.
Oh well... I guess I can try the feature request again.

  • How to enable Audio Track for recording podcast

I'm trying to use Garageband to create podcast in iLife '06. When I select female voice and the red record button, I get this message "No Audio Track is enabled for recording". Adding new track from the Tracks menu does not help. Can anyone help please?

Um, er, that's a Windows app. The best way to record Skype on a Mac is Ecamm's Call Recorder. Just install and you get a record button in Skype!

  • Oracle on DHCP enabled servers

    Hello:
I installed Oracle on my home machine which is DHCP enabled.
The installation said that I have to add Microsoft Loopback adapter. I did it and the installation was successful.
But when I rebooted by machine, I could no longer connect to the internet. When I deleted the loopback adapter, I could. But Oracle DB Console does not get started.
When I added the loopback adapter, it started again but I lost my internet connection!
Can somebody shed light on how I can solve the problem?
    Thanks.

HI . I need some assistance. How do I install DHCP? Can you give me the steps how you did this. I am very new to ORACLE and the DHCP setup. I will appreciate it. I am in class and trying to get my trial oracle 10g r2 up and running. I have the software installed now but the DHCP still have a warning.
Thank youWhy are you hijacking a thread that is nearly 4 years old? You should post you own question as its own thread.
    But since we're here ....
You don't install dhcp. It is a method whereby a computer gets its IP address assigned by some other device on the the network. And said IP address is not guaranteed to be the same every time the computer starts. That is why Oracle (actually any sever process) does not like to run on dhcp assigned addresses. Trying to reach said server from a client process would be like hitting a moving target. That is why the installation instruction for oracle (you did actually read them, right?) instruct you to install the loopback adapter if you are running your pc under dhcp. This will give your pc a second, fixed, network address that is accessable only by other processes running on the same machine.

  • Fail to boot Solaris 10 8/11 on Oracle VM x86

I've created an x86 VM using Oracle VM and configured it to boot from the Solaris 10 8/11 ISO. When I boot the VM it reads the ISO and stops at:
    SunOS Release 5.10 Version Generic_147441-01 64-bit
    NOTICE: Invalid iBFT table 0x8
I've used this ISO to build other physical servers, so the ISO file seems to be ok. My VM is configured with 2 virtual 30GB drives, 4GB memory, and 2 cpu's. When I searched on "iBFT" it appears to be related to iSCSI, but I am not using any iSCSI devices.

Is it possible to move this thread to the Virtualization » Oracle VM Server for x86 forum? Seems to be a better location.

  • Turning on "record-enabled" audio track in premiere pro 5.5.

I'm trying to do a simple voice-over in premiere pro 5.5.  I've followed all the instructions given in the tutorials yet I keep getting a prompt saying " You can't record because one of your record-enabled tracks is turned off?  I know i'm missing something simple but can't seem to determine what it could be.  Does anyone know what it might be?

I think this might help the discussion. I also have auto input monitoring selected. I can also hear the audio when I click the input monitoring button.

  • No audio in guest account

Although audio is present in the administrator's account, there is no audio in the guest account. There was guest account audio before today, but something has happened to remove audio. Is anyone able to help me resolve this? Thanks.

Many thanks. In the guest account I had absent mindedly allowed access to System Preferences. The grandkids made unwanted changes. In System Prefs audio I made the necessary corrections, then deleted access to System Prefs.
