Organise Events into 3 columns like Mac finder window?

Is there a way to add more "years" to the Events list or is that dependent completely on the dates listed on the import tapes?
Is there a better way to organise 10 years of family viewing? Can I arrange a "column" tree like the Mac finder window?
I want to have 10 years of viewing with Year 1998 as the "first column", then month, then event name in that month. Anyway to have at least 3 "columns" of event order?

I forgot to mention, I know about the iMovie "Month" view that effectively adds a "middle column" so that it view by year, by month, and then by event... I guess what I was asking is whether or not there is a way to over-ride the pre-set date on a clip? Because I have about 3 years of footage from an older camera technology that was imported under the wrong date.
Or if there is another 3 column way to organise events... or what I should do?

Are you using a folder system to organize your music?

  • Why are files viewed in Bridge a lot brighter than Mac Finder window?

Why do my camera raw files appear a lot brighter when viewed in Adobe Bridge than when viewed in the Mac Finder Window?  Like a lot brighter.  I'm not really sure which is the 'correct' brightness. Thanks!

    No one?
Bridge shows the raw files according to the settings you have applied in ACR or if you have not applied any it shows the default ACR settings. The finder uses the embedded jpeg preview to show the contents of the raw file.
Without a screenshot it is hard to judge your situation but also check your Camera Raw settings (under Adobe Bridge menu see camera raw prefs) and in the default image settings be sure to have the option 'apply auto tone adjustments' unchecked.

  • Can't choose column view in finder window

My view options in the finder window doesn't have a active hyperlink for the column view.  It shows icon, list, cover flow, but not column.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

  • Some iPhoto events aren't displayed in finder windows

When trying to upload or attach iPhoto pictures, the finder item labeled iPhoto is missing events from my recently uploaded events and photos. I can see older events and upload files easily. I'm hoping this is a simple fix but does anyone have ideas on how to update this file listing in finder?
I have an iMac with snowleopard, iPhoto 11 and all of the latest software updates for both. I have also rebuilt the data base, repaired permissions etc from the iPhoto repair menu.
    Any ideas?  Thanks!

The newer iPhoto version is not setup for accessing the photos via the Finder. the following is from a post by Terence Devlin on accessing photos for use outside of iPhoto.  It's the definitive treatise on the subject.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation   which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3.Show File:
    a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    b. On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
The above is how one should access photos for use outside of iPhoto.

  • Organising text into columns using CSS?

    Hello again guys,
    Another day another problem.
This community has been really friendly and helpful so far with what I'm sure must appear to many of you to be really simply problems, so I'm hoping that you can bear with me and help me out again!
Basically, I'm designing my page using CSS, and I've come to a part where I would like to have 3 columns of text, of a fixed width, with a fixed gap in between. Using my very limited knowledge and experience, I inputted the code that I thought would work, but whenever I go to enter more text, it doesn't jump to a new line when it reaches the maximum width of the column, it carries on on the same line and pushes the rest of the text across.
How do I sort this out?
I can't actually upload my site until Monday, but I've included some screen below which I hope will help.
    Thanks again guys.
    Text in columns:

When I type some more, it doesn't stay in the column width:

The code that I thought would work:
    http://i54.tinypic.com/yjoed.png
    http://i56.tinypic.com/2dax46c.png

    Hi Murray,
Apologies. I had made a mistake. I've got it working now. Thank you.
Another tiny thing, if you check out this screen:
    http://i54.tinypic.com/elcep.png
you can see that the line starts right near the top, and goes all the way down to the bottom.
Is there some way to amend the code that you gave me to adjust the height of the line? I tried adjusting the size of the image but that didn't seem to have an effect?
Ideally, I would like to line at the top of the 'T' of 'This is a news story', and finish at the bottom of the 'M' of 'More'. That height.
Something else which has confused me. I have that 'More' link aligned to the right, and in my design view in DW it is so aligned, but then when I preview the page, it jumps to the left hand side of each column. The alignment seems to disappear when the page is 'live'?
Thanks again for all of your help. You really are a star!

  • German terms under "Kind" column in Find window

Under the "Kind" column in the Find window (not Spotlight), I see the following terms: "Dokument," JPEG-Bild," "Reiner Text." These all sound German to me & I have no problem with that. Is there some special reason for using these German terms instead of English? "Bild" I know means "picture" in German. What's "Reiner Text"? Anyone know?

    Hi David,
    it's *.txt documents.

  • Device no longer appears in finder window

When I connect a memory card from a camera to the computer using a card reader connected to a USB port, what used to happen is it would automatically launch iPhoto for possibly importing some or all of the pictures and would the card would also appear as a "device" in the left hand column of the Finder window. This latter would allow files to be copied off the card to some other location in the computer.
Unfortunately, when I was trying to copy a file off the card, I inadvertently dragged the listing out of the finder window and got a mini-explosion sound effect and puff of smoke same as when you remove an icon from the dock. And the card was no longer listed as a device.
I have tried rebooting the computer. I have done a spotlight search looking for the memory card. Nothing.
Now, when I attach the memory card using the card reader connected to a USB port, iPhoto still launches automatically and iPhoto still recognizes all the pictures on the card. However it no longer appears in the device list in the Finder window. If I go into system profiler, it too recognizes the card and lists it as a device connected to the particular usb port. But I can't find a way to open the card other than importing into iPhoto.
So, the question is, how do I get the device to once again appear in the device list in the Finder window the way it is supposed to?

Open the Finder's preferences and select the "Sidebar" tab. Try checking things in the "Devices" category. If there is a check in the category that you think would apply to that device, try unchecking it, close the preferences window, open it again, and check that item again.

  • "forcing" drag and drop to full finder window

i sometimes find myself needing to drag and drop (Move or Copy) a Folder from the Documents section of my macbookpro to somewhere on my MBP or my MacPro but the Finder window on the MBP for the destination is full up with folders and files and there is no "free space" to "drop" it. Sometimes I try to drop it to the right of the items list where it seems blank but if I don't get this just right it goes into a folder where I don't want it.
I know there is a file path at the bottom of the finder window but often this is hidden below my computer screen because I am trying to keep something else (like another finder window) above it. Also, I sometime am holding down the Option key during the drag and drop to force a move.
Is there a way to understand where I can drop items when the Finder is full or some other way to "force" it to drop in there even if the list is full up?
    TIA

If you drop the item on top of a file in the list, the item will be moved into the folder. However, if you drop it on top of a folder in the list, chances are the item will end up in that folder instead of the parent folder.
Here's a trick that works in Lion, and maybe earlier OS X versions, and should helpn with your issue -
Click the file you want to move; press Command-C
Open the folder you want to move it into. With that folder active, press Option-Command-V
This will move the file into the folder you opened.

  • Interactive "Finder" window of specific files

    Hi!
Is there a simple way to create a custom view of the filesystem from an obj-c program? Ie. a window with a list of specific files in the Mac filesystem that can be manipulated like opened, dragged to trash (removing them from their original location), etc.
Basically I start out with a list of paths - files around the system, in several folders, etc. -, and want to display this list as a window with file icons to the user, basically like a Finder window, to manipulate and work with. I'd like filetype icons and/or previews, context menu, drag-and-drop, etc., as if it were a folder opened in Finder.
Is there some built-in API code I can use to do this in a simple way? If not, what do I need for it to work? Where should I look in the dev documentation?

the spotlight is set up to view all file types. im looking for a specific set of pictures, but they just dont show up in the finder search. they are there tho, coz i can look thru them. they show up when i import them to iphoto, but i dont use iphoto

  • Finder window date added date modified show date time always

Is there a preference setting to have a finder window with Date Added and Date Modified columns enabled to always show the date and time? Currently, the column information is dynamic, like just providing a time where you infer Today, or one column does show the date and time but the other only shows the date, or it reads Today, 12:31pm.
I want every window when displaying Date Added or Date Modified columns to always, consistently show the date and time, e.g. 3/15/14, 7:31AM.
    Aloha and Mahalo!

I found half of the answer: View:Show View Options - Deselect Use Relative Dates.
Now I just need a solution to always show the time and not only the date.
Curiously, when you initially enable a column in a Finder window, it shows both the date and time; however when you return to the window after closing it, you lose the time of day on Date Added, but not on Date Modified. -- Bug or Feature?

  • Strange finder window behaviour

    Hi everyone.
Sometimes when I shut my macbook pro down, the finder window reopens exactly as I had it with all the tabs intact. Other times, when I shut it down and reboot, there is no finder window open at all.
I would like the finder window to reopen as I left it all of the time. Does anyone know why this might be happening and how I can go about troubleshooting it?
    Thanks.

Any other suggestions how to solve the problem? The folders once created in OS 9 will not accept the new Finder window view options which I have set to be used as default in Mac OS X 10.6. When I delete all the .DS_Store files the folders view options just revert back to something I used in OS 9 many years ago when I created the folders. All new folders created in Mac OS X are OK and they will use the new Finder window view options which I have set to be used as default. And it's not an option to manually restore to defaults using the view options palette since there are hundreds of folders. I did not have this problem with Mac OS X 10.5 before installing 10.6.

  • Finder window is not proportioned correctly

We just updated to Adobe Acrobat DC and it looks like the Finder window is not proportioned correctly.   There is the large grey space that cannot be reduced. If the window is scaled down then you lose the files on the top while the gray space remains the same. We have two computers running Mac 10.10.3 that are doing the same thing. Is anyone else experiencing the same issue?
What appears when you go to Open...
    Shrinking window does this......

    Hi ,
Did you try repairing Acrobat DC ?
If not ,please try the same and see if that helps sorting this issue .
Or you could also try uninstalling the software and re installing it once and check if that helps in any way .
And by shrinking do you mean to adjust the screen resolution or is that something else you are trying to perform ?
Please try both the methods and see if that fixes the issue.

  • Missing file sizes  in finder window

I can’t seem to find how to get OSX to display all file and folder sizes in the size column of my finder windows. I’ve tried using the show view options (command-J) and this seems to work for all except folders and Keynote files. Does anyone know how to fix this, especially for Keynote files?
    Mark

No, there is no checkbox labeled as such. If I choose the "calculate all sizes" checkbox, all of the values come up now. However, if I also choose the "all windows" checkbox, it seems as though this change only works for the current window since if I open up another folder on my drive, I'm back to square one with missing file/folder sizes. Any way to make this change universal throughout the system?

  • Can't browse/navigate in time machine - finder window completely unresponsive

Since installing Mavericks when I go into time machine the finder window is completely unresponsive.  I can go backwards and forwards and the date menu on the right seems to work fine, but I can't interact with the finder window.  This essentially breaks Time Machine for me.
I'm running time machine via USB on a LaCie Terabyte drive.
I've restarted the machine and am about to do a hard shutdown, maybe that will help...

This is not a solution, ratehr it is an observation. Often when I open Time Machine, the screen appears to freeze, but if I wait (patiently or not so patiently) it will eventually "come to life" and begin paintingthe screen. The same thing often happens when I select a date back in history. I finally figured out the delay is caused by TM tracking through all the thousands and thousands of multi-links to create the model of the system at a given point in time. In other words LOTs of CPU cycles, not to mention disk I/O are being used. My case is aggravated by the fact I am using a Time Capsule and all of that I/O has to go through the WiFi network.
