Organizing by dates within an event
I'm not exactly sure how to organize photos by date within a certain event, when photos are coming from more than one camera. For example, I have imported pictures on the day my grandson was born from my camera, and I have also added some, within the same "event" sent to me by email, taken with other cameras. There are lots of pictures taken during the course of a few days, but the photos, by date, are not in order. First, I have some that are in the hospital, then there are the ones taken at home, then after that are some more in the hospital. The dates are correct on the cameras and I've set the photos to be arranged by date in iPhoto. Why won't they import in the order, by day, that they were taken, even though they're from different cameras?
What I'm trying to accomplish is to import photos, no matter where they came from, into an event, and have them all in order by date. Is that possible with photos coming from different sources?
That is how it works - I have many events with photos from different camera's
look at the extended photo into (select two photos and go to the photos menu ==> show extended info) and verify that the date/time are the same - it sounds like they may have been set to different time zones time so are an hour or more off
To see all teh photos from a single camera make a smart album with camera is "the camera" - if one camera's time is off you can select the photos in that smart album and use the photos menu ==> adjust time and date command to correct it

SPLIT PICTURES BY DATE WITHIN AN EVENT
I have over 5,000 pictures from various people, none of whom had the correct date on their cameras. I have to separate them into the places we visited. Before I do that, however, I wanted to be able to create separate events by date to later merge according to location. I've looked all over but can't find the solution. I highlighted all the pictures and couldn't "split" into events by date. How can I best do this? Any assistance would be MUCH appreciated. I think I was able to do this easily in the older version (but I may be wrong!).
In the iPhoto Preferences select the preferred split (iPhoto -> Preferences -> General)
Then in Events view, select the Event you want to split
Then Events Menu -> Autosplit Selected Event

Organizing photos within an event
Is it possible to move around or relocate photos in an event. Example, I have a lot of old family photos I have copied both sides of and would like to keep them next to each other, front side photo & back side names on photo. Thanks
Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Not within an Event, no. Events are strictly based on date and time. However, make an Alnum from an Event and you can organise things as you prefer.
You can make a Album simply by dragging an Event to the word 'Albums' in the iPhoto Window. Albms take up no extra disk space. As the simply reference photos in the Library, a pic can me in many albums with no duplication.

Order of Photos within an event
Hey all,
I've been scanning in a lot of loose photos I had laying around lately and organizing them into events, but I have some photos that are out of place within the event and I would like to group those photos together (I.E. Graduation photos: would like to keep all the marching ones next to each other and all the ones with friends/family posing together).
I thought that previous versions of iPhoto allowed me to drang and drop photos to re-order them but can't seem to figure out how to do that in iPhoto 08.
Within the event I've tried to go to View/Sort Photos/Manually, but Manual is greyed out.
Thanks for any help.Events are meant to be a chronological. If you want free reign to move photos around, you should create an album. Albums allow you total flexibility to rearrange photos and delete some (while keeping them in the original event in the library).
There is a workaround, though, if you only want to reorder a few photos: edit the date & time the photos were taken. You can do this on any number of photos, but it's tedious. So if you have a lot of rearranging to do, then albums make way more sense. But for 1 or 2 misplaced pictures, it's worth the effort.
I, for one, don't bother with albums because I almost always want my events/rolls to reflect chronological reality. Sometimes, however, I miss a shot and go back later in the day to get it, causing it to be logically misplaced in iPhoto.
For example, when visiting a national park I always take a photo of the park's entrance sign. But sometimes the sign is obscured by a huge RV or in shadows, or sometimes I simply miss it. If I can get a good sign shot on the way out of the park, then back home in iPhoto I edit the time that shot was taken and pretend the shot was taken earlier in the day, because the sign photo makes way more sense at the beginning of the event, rather than at the end.
Let's say you want to move a photo C to fit between two other photos, A & B. You have to first look at the times A & B were both taken, and then edit C to have a date & time in between both A & B.
To edit a photo's date & time, use the "i" info pane at the lower left of iPhoto. -
Event date does not agree with photo dates in the event

I have made a new event and put lots of genealogy pictures for one family member in it. I changed all the photos to Jan 4, 2002. These are docs, pics, obits, etc. Thus I have given this one person this date. Other family names have another date. I modified all the original files within each event.
Beside this couples name on the "Event" label it says Jan 3, 2002 - August 23, 2014. Therefore it shows itself in the Jan 3, 2002 group of people. That is about 20 family groups up the page.
I have done the following:
--Made sure that there are no pictures with the date Jan 3, 2002 in the event
--Have taken all the pictures in the event and separated them out into new events--census, certificates, pictures, obits, etc. Thought I would trick the event to restarting!
--Did a "select-all" of that event and created a new event--same thing.
--Closed down iPhoto and started over again.
I have no idea why the Jan 3, 2002 is showing up. These are one side of the family. The January 4 is the other side!
On August 23, 2014, I did take a couple of the cemetery pictures in this event. However, they were given the new date of January 4 and Modified the original files using the checkbox. I put the same picture in another family member's event and it is OK. I
Hope I have given enough details.I think I have solved it! After much frustration and then writing for help, I was not to be stopped. I kept looking up other helps and one person suggested that one of the pictures might be a problem. So I tried that approach. I made an event just out of the "possible" problem pix (the August 2014 date.) It was not causing a problem in another event, however. From that event with the same pix, I exported the pix to the desktop, and then imported the pix back into iPhoto. Then I put them into the event that was having the problem. So far so good. The date of the event matches all the dates of the photos. I will now delete the "problem children."

I am trying to build a proof of concept where a WPF form is hosted in a seperate runspace and updates are handled from the primary shell/runspace. I have had some success thanks to a great article by Boe Prox, but I am having an issue I wanted to open up
to see if anyone had a suggestion.
My goals are as follows:
1.) Set control properties from the primary runspace (Completed)
2.) Get control properties from the primary runspace (Completed)
3.) Respond to WPF form events in the UI runspace from the primary runspace (Kind of broken).
I have the ability to read/write values to the form, but I am having difficulty with events. Specifically, I can fire and handle events, but the minute I try to reference the $SyncHash from within the event it appears to cause a blocking condition hanging both
runspaces. As a result, I am unable to update the form based on an event being fired by a control.
In the example below, the form is loaded and the following steps occur:
1.) Update-Combobox is called and it populates the combobox with a list of service names and selects the first item.
2.) update-textbox is called and sets the Text property of the textbox.
3.) The Text value of the textbox is read by the function read-textbox and output using write-host.
4.) An event handle is registered for the SelectionChanged event for the combobox to call the update-textbox function used earlier.
5.) If you change the selection on the combobox, the shell and UI hangs as soon as $SyncHash is referenced. I suspect this is causing some sort of blocking condition from multiple threads trying to access the synchronized nature of the hash table, but I am
unsure as to why / how to work around it. If you comment out the line "$SyncHash.TXT_Output.Dispatcher.Invoke("Send",[action]{$SyncHash.TXT_Output.Text = $Value})" within update-textbox the event handler will execute/complete.

To clarify the "Respond to control events in the main runspace"... I'm would like to have an event generated by a form object in the UI runspace (ex: combo box selectionchanged event) trigger a delegate within the main runspace and have that delegate in
the main runspace update the form in the UI runspace.
ex:
1.) User changes selection on combo box generating form event
2.) Event calls delegate (which I have gotten to work)
3.) Delegate does some basic processing (works)
4.) Delegate attempts to update form in UI runspace (hangs)
As to the delegates / which runspace they are running in. I see the $synchash variable if I run get-var within a delegate, but I do not see the $Form variable so I am assuming that they are in the main runspace. Do you agree with that assumption? -

How can I sort photos within an event? When I follow the Help instructions, I can sort manually in Photo format, but when I return to Event format, the original order is restored.
Events are organisation for those who can't really be bothered. They are automatic - based entirely on Date and Time the camera records the photos as taken.
You can move photos between Events, you can Merge Events, you can Rename them and sort them in various ways except one: You cannot manually sort in an Event as Events are all automated.
If you want to manually sort in an Event then you've outgrown Events as an organising tool. Now it's time to look at albums (Where you can manually sort) which are much more flexible than Events as an organising tool. -
Iphoto recent upgrade - all Events gone. Photos there, sorted only by date. No events
Since the recent upgrade, the new iPhoto has eliminated all Events. The photos are there (I think they all are, but not sure) but there are no events, the photos are all just sorted by date (no titles/events). I had just finished organizing all Events days before the upgrade.

Rest assured, the new Photos lack of ability to automatically add new photos as "Events" will be resolved in much the same way that many unwanted, unneeded, and for some users, workflow-crippling changes to Apple operating systems and related software are ever resolved:
1. Apple will do nothing. If few people complain through the proper channels via Feedback, the product will remain as is, and users will either eventually adapt to the new organizing schemes, or will find and use another product that better fit our ways of thinking, manipulating, and organizing our digital images, all shaped by our existing libraries of images that were in iPhoto.

2. If enough authentic and specific complaints (in the low millions, at least) are sent promptly and directly to Apple via Feedback, and if the complaints are precise and persistent, and continue relentlessly over a period of years, then some similar capability MIGHT be added later, in some future update, in a couple of years. (Think OS X 10.13.1, "Ellis Island" or whatever geographic icon that future iteration might be named after. "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to import their digital images directly into "Events" once again…)
(There are of course many other possible scenarios, none of which involve returning iPhoto to the marketplace, nor "fixing" Photos to be like iPhoto was.)

*Because registering outrage and frustration by complaining here in Apple Support Communities does absolutely nothing to ever resolve any issue with Apple. Create an album and place into it any pictures you like. You can even place every single picture in your iPhoto library into it. The pictures can then be organized in any arbitrary way you wish within that album.

Only albums can be sorted manually. Events can only be sorted automatically according to one of the predefined settings "Date, Keywords, Title, Rating".

Moving scenes around within an event?
Can you rearrange scenes within an event in iMovie? I was able to import video from a mini DVD-r with an external DVD drive, but mysteriously some of the scenes got rearranged in the event. I'd like to "fix" the event so that the scenes run as they were shot.

Yes and no. If you mean by the common method of simply grabbing a clip and dragging it to a new position and dropping it, then no. Event clips are automatically arranged in a "time" sequence. If imported directly from a camcorder and if the camcorder stores the DTG (Date Time Group) in a manner correctly read by the application, then the files show in their correct order in the event which itself shows up under the correct year. On the other hand, files imported from a camcorder wholse DTGs are misread tend to show up in a randowm order whose Event may even be placed under and incorrect year heading. And lastly, all files imported at the "Finder" file level are sorted by their "File Creation" date. So to get back to your initial question, yes, it is possible to rearrange the files within an Event and to keep the Event under the correct year heading by simply modifying the the file creation date. This can be done in may ways but use of a simple and free utility like "A Better Finder Attributes" is probably the easiest way to do this. -
Sorting photos within an event
I'm trying to find a way to rearrange my photos within an event. According to the instructions in help:
Sort photos within Events (but not the Events themselves): Select Photos in the Source list, choose View > Event Titles, and then choose View > Sort Photos.
Trouble is, when I try to choose Event titles, it is grayed out. If I go to the event and then select view>sort photos, manually is grayed out and by date and desending are checked.
Anyone have a suggestion.Did you read the answer?
Events are a very limited form of organising. They are sorted on date and time only. If you want more flexibility then you need to use Albums, where there a virtually no limitations.
That is the answer! You can not sort photos within events.

You can not - events are time based and you can not move tehphotos - you could change the times of the photos to match the order you want but I suggest that you leave the events the way they are and use albums for the specific order organization you want

That is correct
- they stay in the order they were imported.
They stay in the time date order of the EXIF data from your camera (if there was no EXIF data then the import date and time is used)
In Photo view of the library (as opposed to event view - select in the source pane to the left) you can turn off displaying event titles and then manually sort your photos - but this does not change their order in the events and if you have many photos will make response time very slow - normally it is not the way to go
